I was bullied at school and my mum tried to deal with it by asking my teacher repeatedly to speak with the bullies. He said he couldn't as it might upset them and their parents, and I needed to "toughen up*. It took one visit from my father (who held the teacher up against the wall in a stairwell and told him that if it happened to me again, he'd come back and "wouldn't be so nice" that time) to solve the issue.
