Her point was that this privileged discussion is totally oblivious to a much larger world. In so many countries you aren't even free to be a woman, let alone express any more subtle ways of gender. Acceptance of the big ones are first. And what do people not get about the whole trans anything that you're literally saying you want to "switch" genders. The expression itself makes biological gender binary. I am that masculine woman. My womb has grown my kids but my mind is considered to many that of a classical biological man. Why do you wish to dismiss me? That's what I want to know. Why do I need to fight for my right to just be me, a woman that does not want to be belittled into the standard vision of what a woman should be like? Why do I need to acceot people wanting to be stereotypes of the other biological gender when people can't even deal with normal diversity. So no, that headline was not inclusive, it was privileged and totally dismissive.

I'm convinced that the US health care system has CAUSED thing like anti-vax. In a country where medicine costs just SO much and the pharmaceutical companies make so much profit, it's not surprising that people become suspicious of necessary but hideously over priced medicine, or being ripped off for profit. It's a short jump from there to deeper conspiracy theories about being experimented on, being made sick to be made better, and all the anti-vax stuff - all those things would lead to profit, but the average American experience is that the pharmaceutical companies are out for all they can get, and so the conspiracy theories gain traction.

I still don't get this ... and the entire misconception about freedom. The absence of rules is not equal to maximized freedom, but in reality translates into the right of the stronger. If companies don't have to obey rules regarding how to treat their employees, these employees are free to be disposed of pretty quick. If you have to worry about being broke for the rest of your life because you got sick, you are not free to decide what you do. A lot of similar things come to my mind - I don't get why a company spying on me isn't any of a severe issue, but the state doing so is ... I dislike both ways (and avoid them as far as I can) ... the american definition of freedom is pretty much effed up, and this is one of the worst outcomes of it - you're not free if you have to pay a year's salary each year to go to university, you don't decide what to do then, and a lot of talent is wasted because of this - and a lot of people are made unhappy for decades to come by this shitty system...

Genuine question from someone trying to understand....so we've worked really hard in society to break up some gender norms (gender being a construct) - so for it to be ok for girls not to be cute and fluffy, and to be into sports, science etc; and for boys to feel free to express their emotions, be openly empathic, to like dressing up etc, so what is the extra impetus that makes someone assigned female at birth convinced that they are a boy? And for non-binary, what is the difference between saying that you are nb to saying that you are a girl who's just not that into traditional gender feminity? I say this as a middle aged woman who has never been society's perception of 'feminine', so I'm confused.

What's interesting though is that when it's proposed that a straight person plays a gay role there is kick back, and when a non-trans actor plays a trans person there is a kick back, so it works in some directions but not others.

To produce enough blood for 100 sanitary products she'd pretty much have to bleed out.
