And he opted not to take anything with him to call for help despite going alone. Yes I've seen the movie. Yes he made a difficult decision. No I don't think he's any type of hero or worthy of admiration. Because he failed the top two rules of any outdoor activity in the wilderness: tell someone your route and take something to call for help.
