Johan Eliasch is a Swedish-British businessman, investor, sports administrator, environmentalist, and philanthropist. When we dine on the rich, lets leave him be.
I don't read kid's books but, when the news is especially bad, I watch kid's movies. At least it gives me a couple of hours of not thinking about the Earth burning.
The Very Important Positivity Facebook page has been around since 2018, and it’s made a huge splash on the platform. With over 620K followers, this account is a safe haven for anyone exhausted by the constant barrage of negativity and depressing news that you’ll find on most corners of the internet.
While there’s no doubt that it’s important to keep up with current events, it’s also healthy to take a break every now and then to focus on embracing some positivity. In fact, your body and might even thank you. According to the Mayo Clinic, positive thinking can come along with many health benefits, including an increased life span, lower rates of depression and lower levels of distress and pain.
I need to clear this one up a bit. The crows are George and Mabel. George was the one with the broken beak and passed away in 2017. Mabel now has a new mate. It was never known how George actually broke his beak. He's also figured out how to feed himself. Mabel was his mate for live though. Looking on the bright side has also been linked to a greater resistance to illnesses, better psychological and physical wellbeing, better cardiovascular health, reduced risk of losing your life to cancer or infection and better coping skills during stressful times.
People who focus on being positive also tend to live healthier lifestyles, often getting in more physical activity and avoiding harmful habits like smoking and drinking alcohol. And of course, being an optimist can have a huge impact on your mood and life satisfaction. We can’t control what happens to us, as life is notoriously unpredictable. But we do have some say in how we choose to respond to situations.
Words of Wisdom. "Be Excellent To Each Other" also includes "Be Excellent To Yourself".
If there were no people in the past with progressive views, we'd still be stuck in the past.
Now, if positive thinking doesn’t come easily to you, you’re not alone. But Verywell Mind notes that it’s a habit we can pick up with some practice. The first step in this might be to simply notice your thoughts. If the first thought that pops into your head in any situation is a complaint, you might want to start challenging that mindset. Push yourself to notice the positives of whatever position you’re in, and that negative voice might slowly start to quiet down.
Homophobes honestly think non-straight people of all categories are attempting to take over the world. Rather than learning the truth, they let their irrational fear turn to violence.
If that's not cause for jubilation, what is? Hope you and your Mom live well!
One exercise that can go a long way in promoting positive thinking is using a gratitude journal. It may take a while to build a habit of writing down everything you’re thankful for, but if you force yourself to do it, you may begin to realize just how great your life truly is.
No, you might not have gotten that promotion. But if you’re healthy, that’s a huge privilege. If the sun was shining today, and your spouse made you a delicious dinner, you have something to be grateful for! We tend to take the little things for granted and only focus on what’s not going our way, but writing down some positive thoughts can certainly help put things into perspective.
Single Dad's don't get enough respect. Good for him, and I am sorry for the tragedies.
He didn’t say the kids were unwanted. I think his kids are lucky to have him.
Load More Replies...Dude. Don't listen to the haters (condoms). You have brought two children into the world and are being a wonderful and admirable father and human being. And stonger and better than the haters. You are incredible.
This is why I am a firm believer of the idea of "it takes a village to raise a child".
I agree. Which is why it's so disappointing with all the articles on BP where people with kids ask a simple thing from family or a stranger, and the whole of BP piles on with "You chose to give birth to (insert c****h goblin, spawn, offspring insult here) so you can never ask for any help or expect any from your family.. .EVER!"
Load More Replies...That is so heartbreaking but you have your babies and working hard to have a good future for all of you.
Great, but I wouldn't romanticize poor life decisions. Many things went wrong at many levels here.
he never said the children were unwanted. i think he has built a great life for himself, you need to learn some manners
Load More Replies...It’s not about his age. It’s about the fact that he stepped up and had to be a single parent. He didn’t give up, he’s still going to college, he’s working hard to support his children who both lost their mothers at a young age to tragedy. He lost two girlfriends in horrible ways. He was probably expecting both times to raise his children with their mothers and both times the universe said, “FU.”
Load More Replies...Agreed. Our library system is awesome. In another state, I used it to draft divorce papers and get research papers. All you have to do is ask, and they are very willing to assist. EDIT: I have to add that I was able to download information on 100s of grant making organizations and share them with nonprofits via the state library. PDFs of the last few years of organizations aligned with
Another way you can teach yourself to start focusing on the bright side is by practicing positive self-talk. Many of us harp on our own insecurities, but making a point to build yourself up can have a huge impact on your mood and how you respond to stressful situations. Pat yourself on the back when you do something that’s worth being proud of, and don’t beat yourself up when you make mistakes. Simply learn from them, and approach future challenges with a sunny disposition.
Your child has a healthy imagination and a gift for whimsy. I bet his parent(s) are good that way, too.
One common misconception about positive thinking is that none of us are ever allowed to feel any negative emotions. But it’s unrealistic to expect humans to be cheerful all the time, and that can quickly devolve into toxic positivity. Instead, the idea is to approach every situation with kindness and grace.
Austin-based therapist Jo Eckler, PsyD, told Oprah Daily that when painful situations arise, you should certainly allow yourself to feel. But you should also cut yourself some slack. Remember that things will get better, eventually. And don’t hold onto blame or grudges that won’t serve you.
*VERY* Perceptive, and worth engraving in stone and proclaiming from the mountaintops!
All of us have room for improvement. It's nice to see proof that it does happen. (Need to go work on my own faults.)
If you’re looking to brighten up your life, you might want to start with literal sunshine. Spending time in nature is the perfect way to destress, boost positive thinking and stimulate creativity. Plus, it certainly doesn’t hurt to be surrounded by beautiful views! Going for a walk or a bike ride can do wonders in pulling you out of a slump and reminding you to focus on the best aspects of life. Some fresh air won’t magically cure depression, but it can be a healthy reminder that you deserve to enjoy your life.
I'm one of them. Screenshotting it to turn it into a daily affirmation.

That is all fine and dandy, as long as you're not in Australia.
The most unfortunate aspect of social media is the ease stupid people have accessing it and spreading their vicious opinions. If it's a generational thing, then it's been going on for every generation since we crawled out of the primordial ooze.
There were soldiers as young as sixteen on both fronts. Everybody got screwed by the warmongers. Everybody. Except the profiteers. Just like before, just like today.
Our skin sacks just chauffeur our brains around, but it IS nice when you've hung around with someone so much that they become your standard of beauty.
Yes, good for him and her. I punched a rich kid in the face in 6th grade, knocking him off the desk he was sitting on, and when the teacher came back into the room, he complained. Her response "John, what did you do to deserve it?" I'm female and it was cool to get away with it. EDIT: this happened in the early 1980s. I do not condone violence. But being 13 and having a good right hook is an asset. :)
The popularity of these have really taken off. I've seen biscoff-flavored spread, like Nutella or peanut butter, to put on your breakfast toast
(*quiet tears of happiness that this attitude, these feelings, still exist on this earth*)
I overcame social anxiety by having a baby who insisted on saying hello to everybody in the supermarket, on the street, on the bus... EVERYWHERE! (She'd look super angry if ppl didn't notice her and just walked by). She did this for the first two years of her life. She learned to say "HI!" when she was almost 10 months old and ooooooh boy did she practice that word!!! 😄
People have stacks of books they bought but haven't yet read. I have lists of books I want to get from the library, like hundreds of audiobooks and ebooks. I especially love it when I read a book then reread it then go buy that book because the library let me checkout books to help me find the one that I love
So much for all those Instagram "Italians" spouting off about how no one in Italy has ever heard of Alfredo sauce.
I'd love to believe it. But it's worth noting that it's equally valid to keep going out of sheer spite so you can outlive the bigots, haters, and other assorted people determined to make your life worse. It's an old cliche, but living well truly is the best revenge.
When I was at the children's shelter, there were two girls there around my age (16ish). Neither spoke very much English, and I didn't speak much Spanish outside of what I picked up from then and what I could piece together from two years of Latin. I had a really good experience with one of the girls that was kind of similar- I was trying to explain what it meant to be transgender. I appear female, since I haven't medically transitioned, but at the time I was on the boys wing, so she asked why. It took us a while, but eventually I communicated: "I was born a girl but I feel more like a boy." She understood and was super sweet and supportive! I really miss those kinds of connections.
The last time: lack of traffic. It'll be ten years in October. I walked out into the middle of a road and waited for something to hit me. Nothing came along. (ftr, this was the result of a SEVERE psych med screwup that my psych actually apologized for...) Haven't tried since, and this is a record length of time.
Walk Slowly If you should go before me, dear, walk slowly Down the ways of death, well-worn and wide, For I would want to overtake you quickly And seek the journey's ending by your side. I would be so forlorn not to descry you Down some shining highroad when I came; Walk slowly, dear, and often look behind you And pause to hear if someone calls your name. ~ Adelaide Love ~
🎶Cold Elmo, when I start my band/Cold Elmo, in my garbage can/Cold Elmo, it's in my blood/and my attitude🎶
I can't ignore people who don't approve of me because I am so often one of them.
Good and bad are purely subjective in matters of taste. If you enjoyed it, it's a good movie to you, even if every one and their mothers thinks it's c**p.
Straightbaited. First time I've heard a natural question after an evening of enjoyment put into a pejorative way. Now that's inclusive.
I'm grinding away at my to-be-watched movie list, if that counts...
I LOVE sea slugs. Currently learning how to make them out of polymer clay :) they’re pretty cute but I keep snapping the “wings” off accidentally haha
I saw an image on the internet where a student had written underneath a problem on their quiz, “I don’t know the answer so I drew you this dinosaur instead” and ended up getting a mark for it. Tried it with my teacher, got deducted even more marks for not only failing to answer the question but also doodling on my test 😂 dang it!
Back in my college days, shortly after graduating, I got a job in my university's town. I still hung out with the local science fiction club. One evening in 1982, I was at a meeting and met a new student who'd just transferred in. Within a half hour, we were finishing each other's sentences. Since then, we've shared a house, owned a business together, been coworkers, saved each other's lives more than once, and when he and his wife were out of work (I was, too!) and they needed to relocate, I offered to let them live with me to share expenses, and we could all job hunt together. That was in 2004. By the end of the year, we were all employed. After 10 years of renting, moving every couple of years, and saving, we bought our forever home in 2014. Now it's me, my buddy, his wife, his Mom, a huge dog, and four cats, and we may be an artificial family, but we keep on going.
