I disagree with this. If I had never had to read a book outside a class, many of which I had never heard or or weren't the sort of books I would have personally chosen, there is no way I would have had exposure to the books that shaped my life. As well, the amount of learning about Greek and Roman philosophy and mythology might not have come my way, and definitely the math that they taught in grades 7 to 12 needed time outside class to be worked on, mastered, and used. I very definitely believe in homework and believe it is important.

I'm not even as tall as many of these people, I'm 5"11' but it is frustrating not having enough leg room in seats on buses or planes, not being able to find clothing that's long enough in the leg, or thats too short on the sleeves or body (seriously, retailers, people over 5"6' need clothes too!). On the plus side, I can reach things on high shelves, stand comfortably in the deep end of the pool, look more intimidating when walking home alone at night so get left alone... Even if it does mean I ended up getting things from the top shelf in the supermarket for someone smaller at least once each time I go.

I am of average height but I have unusually long limbs, narrow long feet and hands, narrow wrists and ankles, long toes and fingers. Buying all my clothes is a nightmare. Shoes are too wide and mittens are too short. Leg warmers and wrist warmers are standard equipment in winter. My winter jacket is two sizes too big for the sleeves to be long enough and I can't buy sports pants unless they have a drawstring at the waist. Or I have to protect my ankles with socks that are long enough. I especially like those sports shirts with that thumb hole. I can't wear it but at least the sleeves are almost long enough. Well, at least I can scare people with my Jack Skellington-like hands and my legs look great in a skirt.

Typing/keyboarding was probably THE single most useful class I took in high school. Didn’t want to take it but my Dad insisted. I ended up getting a fairly useless degree in English so the first time it came in handy was for the zillion and one papers I had to write. Even now , over thirty years later and a couple of career changes later I use those skills at work every single day as a nurse. Charting and virtually all communications are done on computer. I could have survived hunting and pecking but it would have made things a lot more difficult. Thanks Dad🥰

This is probably the least known skill. I've had it since a very early age for unknown reasons (odd brain, too focused). I used to despair of most people because they refuse to do it, until I discovered that they don't know how. Almost everything I am informed of, I won't fully believe until I've researched it myself. Critical thinking. Helps you make better decisions and avoid potentially bad mistakes. And helps with a lot of other things that make up everyday life that might seem small at first and on their own, but over time become larger and more consequential. Critical thinking makes you instantly smarter in almost all things that matter, without needing to become an expert in all those things.
