These people always make up a chronically Ill/sad child or terrible trauma to try and guilt trip you into giving them free or heavily discounted items. It makes me sick that people try and trick/scam others like this.

I used to do photography as a side hustle and I had someone hit me up like this for a highschool graduation shoot. I told her my price and she gave me the whole "exposure" line and wanted me to do it for free. I gave in and told her I'd do it. She got 3 hours on location and then I spent a few hours retouching everything up to get them to look just right. Then I sent them to her. The ones I sent looked pretty much like the photos in this post. She called me all bent out of shape because I blurred her face out of the shots. When she asked why I did that, I told her that that was the free exposure. If she wanted the full exposure, it was gonna cost her $250. In the end, I got my $ but she didn't tip at all. I wonder why.

In the US (all states?) they're allowed to pay servers and bartenders half of the legal minimum wage, because they make up the rest with tips. Even the IRS assumes you get those tips and assesses your taxes accordingly.

I think this is happening more and more often. I had a kid around 14 or so come up to me when I was buying petrol and ask if I could get him something to eat. I wouldn’t have minded but he starts rattling off several things that he wants and then an energy drink as well (as if petrol isn’t expensive enough!). @Plenty Pineapples The one thing I’m wondering: did your co-worker know about serving cocktails before entering the job? If you enter a job knowing these sort of things are expected, then it’s just not smart to accept the job anyway. For example, I’ve heard stories about supermarket cashier workers refusing to checkout alcoholic drinks. It seems to me that if you apply for that kind of job, it’s only reasonable that you do the things that are part of the job. Refusing to do certain things bc it doesn’t align with your beliefs….well don’t apply for the job then, I’d say.

Setting aside the funeral for a moment, there are only two people who can work a specific area, and one is never available for Saturdays, meaning the other is forced to be there every Saturday. If something happens to them (illness, car accident, quitting, etc), then what? Management definitely needs to have contingencies in place instead of assuming nothing will ever go wrong.
