It's obvious that you never studied or understand basic economics. I never got a job from a poor person. And whatever the "corporate" tax rate is corporations don't pay a cent in taxes. They never have. They collect taxes from their customers. So the higher we tax the mean oil companies the more we pay at the pump. The oil company will actually make a greater profit if they decide to maintain the same profit margin over expenses. Which they will.

I am a Presbyterian Elder. All of our church's finances are controlled by The Session. The Session is the group of Elders (all lay members) that run the church. They hire and fire the pastor as needed. They make the budget and allocate funds. The meetings and books are open to all members. Nobody takes advantage of anybody. No one gets a prize for giving the most. No one gets called out for giving to little. If you go to/went to a church that did I suggest you try the Presbyterian Church. The PCUSA is the most socially liberal. The EPC is more middle of the road and the PCA is the most socially conservative.

@Gabrielle, exactly. We donated to help with parish expenses so the priest was fed/housed, and the school had books. We didn't get held up at the door by a dude with a gun to our heads. Som efamilies never tithed, some double-tithed, etc. Just ... is what it is/was.

As a 37 years old Catholic I find strange all this talking of "paying" to a religion... I contribute to my church because a building need maitenance. I payed for the summer camps organized by my oratory. I gave to missionary to help them in their works. But if I want to go to mass and exit without paying anything nobody would tell me anything.
