50 Times People Saw Something ‘Mildly Interesting’ And Knew The Best Group To Share It In (New Pics)
The world around us is endlessly fascinating. Granted, some things are more interesting than others and might blow our minds. But mildly interesting facts have made a name for themselves as the favorites of the internet. They're not about anything groundbreaking, but they're interesting still.
For example, did you know a banana is technically a berry? I bet you can find this and similar mildly interesting facts on the subreddit dedicated to sharing pictures of just them. This list is for the times you don't want to be too shocked or fascinated. Some mild excitement will do.

The "Op" Of This Lost Cat Poster Came Back And Posted An Update On The Harold Situation
Very thoughtful. I get sad seeing "missing" posters that have been up for months.
Same. My vet clinic always has half a dozen missing cat posters. It makes me mad because we all know there are coyotes in our areas.
Load More Replies...Years ago one of our neighbours put up posters and FB posts about her lost senior cat. Never talked to these people (not next door neighbours, few flats over), never even seen them before. But I was instantly invested and felt so sorry for that old chap missing. I followed the story on FB and kept putting back the posters when they fell off. About 6 months later Jasper was found very far from home, trying to survive at some landfill. For years, even after moving, I kept following this lady on FB just so I can see an occasional update on how happy Jasper was with his renewed life, until eventually he passed away. Yes, updates are important :)
I'm so glad Harold's home and I think it's the most thoughtful thing to post an update!!
please keep your cats indoors, people. i know accidents happen, and of course if you're with them and supervising they can be outside, but there are so many bad things that could happen to them unsupervised :(
HURRAY for Harold and family!! Been there / done that. When I was a sitter years back, one of two cats (14 yo) wandered off, was gone 2 mos -- we plastered signs everywhere, offered a hefty $1000 reward. He was found 6 miles away in the next town by a veterinary staffer. She did not accept the reward. (Yes he was chipped and wore an identifying collar.) That was his last hurrah! Bless his heart. SO many tears on both ends of his adventure. 🐾🐾
My Airplant Flowered!
ooooh, looks so beautiful. I never saw one in Bloom. Looks like birthday candles :-)
I see that, but my first thought was the blooms look like upside down parasols like in an umbrella stand.
Load More Replies...They will do this if you care for them correctly. Gotta put a little fertilizer in their spray bottle once in awhile. I have a strand of Spanish moss (in NC) that is going strong 6 years after I picked it up off the ground in Louisiana at a rest area.
Thanks for the tip. Now I must look for the correct fertilizer..
Load More Replies...I didn't even know they bloomed! Yours looks healthier than mine though.
I never knew they could that ! Today years old and....:) also that is soo cool !
My Grandfather’s Retirement Home Has An Emotional Support Skunk That Comes In
Maybe they have, and that's why the skunk needs emotional support.
Load More Replies...Not in civilised countries they don't. Mutilating animals for human convenience or looks is banned across much of Europe.
Load More Replies...The Mildly Interesting community is quite legendary at this point. With its 24 million members and almost 13 years under its belt, they're clearly doing something right. Or perhaps they just hit the internet jackpot: people don't want to be wowed all the time, they don't want superlatives.
Sometimes, somewhere in between exciting and boring is just as good. Still, it's interesting to explore how these things happen, so, let's go through some of these mildly interesting objects together in no particular order, shall we?
Took My Kitchen Knives To Be Sharpened And They Gave Me A Band-Aid With My Receipt
I’d also cut the receipt with the knives as part of the sharpness confirmation.
Lol. I sharpen knives and rarely do it for family anymore. Honestly most peoples knives are butter knife dull and have been for years. I always return them sharp and warn that they are very sharp and show them and they always end up cutting themselves. Yes sharp knives are safer but people used to dull knives are dangerous with sharp ones.
Or that they used to be doctors who did a major carreer-change. Lol
Load More Replies...I Found An Atlas Moth Today At School
I saw one on my outside apartment wall in Floriduh and I thought it was a wood ornament. Freaked me out because no internet to look those things up. I was expecting a Godzilla vs Mothra battle on my doorstep.
I hate moths. Yes they are really pretty but I just can’t stand them. I don’t like the sound they make while flying and their fuzzy bodies and wings creep me out
I love her with a love beyond love. I want to make her a home with a moon and all the tasty sweaters she can eat.
Next time take a photo without handling/touching it. Wings are very fragile, this is not a good move...
Interesting. They really only live in Southeast Asia, like Malaysia, Borneo, Indonesia. Maybe other parts of the Indian Ocean. I wonder where this person lives.
Of 5 Kittens, Only One Has Figured Out How To Use The Bed
Smacked! Can't rule out that possibility. 🤣
Load More Replies...My husband won't let me around kittens anymore. I end up taking too many home. They're my favorite everything in this life. The best thing I've had in life is a cat. They're remarkable and make me so happy.
We were in Turkey a couple of weeks ago and waiting to check into the hotel a kitten came up to me, so naturally I picked it up for a cuddle. My boyfriend did not see this but turned around to see me standing there holding a cat and was like 'DANIELLE we have been here thirty seconds, how have you already acquired a cat?!'
Load More Replies...We had 2 cats. A void with arthritis and a grey tabby. Tabby would lay in front of the fireplace until it felt like her fur would catch fire or under a blanket tent on the couch. Arthritic void slept on the wood and ceramic coffee table. Cats are weird and make no sense sometimes. Edit to add they were brother and sister, same mom. Mom layed wherever her fat a$& would fit.
One kitten to rule them all.... And the bed too! (Today the kitty bed, tomorrow your favorite chair!)
That's the reason I'm not sitting in my favourite chair this evening as I type this. There's a fridge magnet that reads: If you want the best seat in the house, you'll have to move the cat!
Load More Replies...One of the mildly interesting pics from the group is the bell pepper with a bunch of baby peppers inside it. It's not unusual for peppers to have little carbon copies inside them. That's called "internal proliferation." This usually happens inside ripe or overripe bell peppers but is most prominent in the ones that have been picked unripe and ripened artificially with ethylene gas.
The baby pepper is edible and should taste the same as its mama. And peppers aren't the only victims of internal proliferation. This can happen to other fruits and vegetables as well, such as tomatoes, eggplants, oranges, and many others.
My Library Has A Baking Pan Lending Section
In what country(s) is this done? And also cool, is the tool lending library in Berkeley, CA.
Ours has 3d printers, sewing machines, t-shirt logo machines, knitting machine and woodwork tools for use on site. No cake pans though
In Legoland Denmark The Restaurant's Fries Are Shaped Like 2x2 LEGO Bricks
I went to Legoland in Denmark with my family and my sis and her family there just a few months ago. I don’t know who had more fun: us or the kids! It’s my Disneyland.
Denmark is proud of their most popular company, I would be aswell lego is awesome
They should've given you more, you could've built something. They didn't have these when you were told not to play with your food, that would have made it ok
My Wounds After A Surgery To Help My Heart Were Covered By Heart Shaped Gauze
Now I'm bummed I didn't have stomach-shaped ones after my last surgery
I was literally glued up. I guess uterus shape gauze is too much work,
Load More Replies...I've seen this so many times and it's always hilariously adorable, love hospitals that try to make the experience better little by little with things like this
I wonder what kind they would use after a vasectomy. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
After my 8yr. old (at the time) had open heart surgery, the hospital gave her a teddy bear with a mended heart on it and a t-shirt that said "Doernbecher Hospital- we fix broken hearts" on it. (forgot to mention, she's 29 and doing great)
How about that picture of the gorgeous Atlas moth? They're one of the biggest insects in the world, their wingspan stretching to 27 centimeters (nine inches) across. Their caterpillars are very hungry (probably due to their size) and spend almost their every waking second eating, but the moths themselves don't feed at all after emerging from the cocoon.
The Squirrels In My Neighborhood Carved My Pumpkin For Me

The Deer Where I Live Have Zero Survival Instincts Around Humans. They Will Just Walk Up To You And Hang Out
So they are just wandering around town trying to pass out side quests and none of you idiots are taking them?
Dumb. Wont take long for somebody evil to take advantage of it.
Not everywhere is as savage as the USA. There are towns in several places, especially a famous one in Japan, where deer live freely among people.
Load More Replies...Most Americans don’t realize that herds in the US are severely overpopulated due to a lack of predators. The herds have a harder time finding adequate resources in the winter and are far more prone to diseases, especially wasting diseases. They no longer fear humans because they see as a food source (pet food, gardens, trash).
Hopefully no sadistic or antisocial people move there, and decide to exploit that.
Melvin (doggo) chased a huge deer out of the front yard at 6 am. My house is in a wooded area so lots of deer around.
This is common where I was born in southern Alberta. Sadly the tourists have conditioned the deer to come near humans for food. This inevitably ends in a public safety culling as they are frequently infested with ticks. And larger deer can become aggressive if they come up to people and don't get fed
Cats might undergo a change in the color of their fur as they grow into adulthood, did you know that? And no, it's not because they're getting old and grey. Some breeds, like the Himalayan, Siamese, and Burmese might have a genetic mutation that makes their fur darken in the winter months when there is less sun exposure.
Aurora Over The UK Tonight
I guess it's where Star Trek writers got inspiration for all of those planets with colored skies.
We had this over our house in October too. There are only three houses on the Welsh mountain we live on and all of us were out in our pyjamas watching and taking photos. It was breathtaking.
My Local Costco Is Now Selling Otc Birth Control
I get mine free at planned parenthood. I live in California. I'm still surprised they've been shut down across the US. You get a years supply up front. I actually take it for unbearable pain over pregnancy anything. It's to help me function during my time of the month. I mean the clinic is good for a lot of reasons 🤷 everyone is like no abortions so shut them down and everyone else can suffer too. They test me for cancer. Not that I could afford cancer treatment anyhow if I had it. But for a person without insurance it's nice to go and get free birth control that helps me not be bed ridden for 5 days a month. It's like.. well, at least I have this.
A lot of people tend to forget or not care that PP does so much more than just abortions. So many families depend on them for things like cancer screenings and medications.
Load More Replies...Eek! Hormonal birth control can be amazing but it can also have dome pretty serious side effects. I think a consultation should be required! I had a blood clot from my Dianette (no other risk factors so that was their assumption), and I lost a friend to pulmonary embolism as a result of her taking it. It’s been banned now. But even so, it can give you terrible migraines and depression. It’s important to get advice about the right pill for you.
Doing some research, I found that it is a low dose progestin only pill. No estrogen, which is more likely to cause problems. The FDA concluded the pill poses even less risks than some other OTC d***s available. They insist on scrupulous instructions and warnings on packaging as a condition of approval.
You have a better chance of meeting a convent full of nuns at a satanic ritual.
Load More Replies...Is there any risks?then I mean side effects of the meds? That would be good to regularly have monitored?
My neurologist took me off the pill and had me get an IUD because of my migraines with aura. They showed up on an MRI. He said it increased my risk for stroke. And I’ve never been happier and I rarely get migraines. So yes, it is still important to see a doctor. But it’s nice it’s available. But birth control is free if you have health insurance thanks to Obama! tRump and Elon are trying to get rid of that.
Load More Replies...politicians & religious nuts should NEVER have been allowed anywhere near women's health.
The Shadow Of That Bike Looks Like A Xenomorph
PS -- WOW! Just googled xenomorph. We have visitors. 😉
Load More Replies...This person found a tiny pearl in an oyster they were eating. Experts estimate that the chances of that happening are one in 10,000. And even if you find a pearl in your dinner the next time you eat a mollusk, it's unlikely it'll have any monetary value. Most pearls people have found in food are too tiny to be worth a fortune.
Austin Airport Terminal Has Day Of The Dead Display Celebrating The Lives Of Ground Crew Who Have Lost Their Lives At Work
I lived there for several years, they need no encouragement, lol.
Load More Replies...Quite concerning that lovely pictures didn't make it to a display but with skeletons in work gear? Thats mildly trashy.
Pardon my ignorance, but why do so many ground crew lose their lives?
If someone has a heart attack, stroke, etc. they can die at any job. It doesn't specify that the death was work related, just that they died at work. They very well could have had a work related death too, as there are plenty of ways you can die at an airport by working there.
Load More Replies...My Cat's Coat Has Darkened Significantly Since We Adopted Him A Year Ago
First picture makes me think that this guy might be a colour-point, if so the fur colour can shift with temperature change.
And I thought I knew a lot about cats! Thank you!
Load More Replies...That's evolution for you. Kits look like Siamese so they'll be more likely to be adopted. Once they own you and the house, they turn to alley cats.
some friends of mine adopted a a kitten that was a few months old and it was light cream white apart from tip of the tail, tip of the ears, and tip of the nose. fast forward a few months, it became dark grey with spots, like the one in the photo but darker. an absolutely gorgeaus unit
Our cat was named "dipstick' as it was the same color as pic 1, save the tail which was brown.
I read that as you saved the tail and was horrified for a second 🙀
Load More Replies...I have two stray cats that I have taken in (now spoilt indoor cats) both of them had almost white coats and now have amazingly beautiful markings. I think it’s the good food they have been eating, all the nourishment.

My Dog Ripped Open His Chew Toy And This Was Written On The Squeaker
Always love stuff like this, because they know it's not going to last forever
My mom's cockapoo got every squeaker out of every toy for years. In her old age, she couldn't hear them anymore, and every new toy past a certain point kept its squeaker
BARK brand subscription toys have this on the squeaker. And, the soft plushy toys, after the dog(s) are finished eviscerating the poor creature have "Time to Toss Me" printing on the fabric insides.
Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure! (Or how the line goes)
I don't know about you, but I'd file the bathrooms at Mammoth Cave National Park under something more than mildly interesting. The national park is home to the largest-known cave system in the world and has over 600,000 visitors every year. The tile work in the bathroom complements the natural rock surface of the cave beautifully, and the bathroom itself is 275 feet below the ground.
Different Coloured Peppers Growing Inside Big Pepper
When I Was Young I Numbered Each Dimple Of A Golf Ball
Or a little bit neurodivergent. As a young child, I happily spent hours pushing a thumbtack through a sheet of paper, convinced (with little kid logic) that if you made enough holes, the paper would eventually disappear.
Load More Replies...DM: "Frank, give me your character sheet. Roll one d336 to save. Yes Frank, you really annoyed me. You need a 337 to save your character. Did I stutter?"
Load More Replies...I remember this number from the Hollywood Squares gameshow. Peter Marshall asked Paul Lynde "Paul, what on average has 336 dimples?" To which Paul replied "the average Weight Watchers f***y."
Load More Replies...Or before TV had constant child-friendly stuff on (grew up when TV shown only one cartoon in the evening)
Load More Replies...336 dimples on a golf ball. A random teacher told my 8th grade class that as he was walking by our open window. Never saw him after that day.
That's pretty cool, imo. Because this way you remember it!
Load More Replies...I was slow to make friends at school. Age 12, on the grass in the playground, I discovered I could part the grass and make tiny pathways. On one such pathway I found a front door key, and proudly handed it in. A year later a new school building was erected, so I was very proud that I found the key in time.
Bit Into Something Hard In A Fried Oyster And Found A Small Pearl
Woah that's lucky, make a necklace with it now so you can wear it everywhere
That is a real pearl, not a manufactured one. Get a ring made with it ..it is a treasure find.
I have one that my Grandfather found in an oyster but it's a lot smaller than this one.
One Redditor shared an interesting beverage: a foam beer they got served in Japan. That's actually a thing from the Czech Republic, which people refer to as "milk." Don't worry, there's no dairy in it; it's just a technique of pouring beer. You're supposed to drink it quickly before it melts back into ordinary beer. People says it tastes sweet and creamy, but I'll have to get back to you with that one once I try it myself.
I Found A Lowercase Stop Sign
From what I've read when this pic has come up before this is likely installed by home owner association or other non-regulatory body, which makes me think it would have many people not stopping, and then becoming lax with actual stop signs, which would create more problems than it stops.
Or more problems than it doesn't stop.
Load More Replies...I Found Whale Baleen On The Beach

Im like this always. I waited tables 30 years ago and ever since then, i dont play at restaurants. I thank the server profusely, stack my dishes and not be a huge pain in the A S S. Oh and a good tip.
Imagine if someone had never seen mussels, they might think this was how the creature looked when alive.
The Mildly Interesting subreddit also sees some disasters from time to time, like this leaking Himalayan salt lamp. It's actually pretty normal for these lamps to leak water. Salt lamps draw moisture from the air, and if they're in very humid environments, they will eventually leak. In some cases, a leaking Himalayan salt lamp is a sign of authenticity!

My Kid’s Lunch On A Japan Airlines Flight Has An Egg Giraffe And Airplane-Shaped Carrots
Ive said it many a time but I love Japan, they are always so adorable and so initiative, I want to go there one day
Lived there for 5 years - you definitely should go!!
Load More Replies...Love it. Japanese pay attention to detail and are very 'sensitive and precise' in what they can do. ( don't play with your food kids.)
This person had their house burn down, but the American cheese in the fridge, apparently, made it out just fine. People like to say that it's because of plastic or some mysterious chemicals in it, but Kraft claimed it's because their cheese only melts at lower temperatures. That's because of the emulsifiers which they use to bind the proteins and the fat in the cheese.
My Apple Has An Apple On It
Not exactly. This one's not over-priced so many more people can afford it.

This Rack Of Consent Badges At A Furry Convention
We should all behave in a way that makes a lot of those tags unnecessary.
Load More Replies...I like the badges - variations should be made available at all social events "Friendly, not flirting." "Don't hit on me" "Not friendly to strangers" "Taken, don't embarass yourself" could be added.
They do a fetish balls etc I used to go in Perth Australia, for the costumes and to enter the dress up comps 😂 I always had my little lime green wrist strap (which meant I was off limits to touching flirting etc).
Load More Replies...The matched pair of I want uppies / I give uppies, is just adorable! I want several of these for myself, and for my friends, colleges and others who might meet me
Why does other peoples' comfort make you cross enough to comment?
Load More Replies...These are quite necessary if you fursuit at a convention (or cosplay at regular SF conventions.) A lot of people think that giving a cute character a hug is no problem and that everyone in costume should be photographed on sight. This can definitely cause probems in a fursuit as you usually only have a couple widely spaces mesh holes for visibility.
While I'm glad these are available and it's good that people who need them have access...some of these should simply be common sense and a basic practice without needing a badge to say it directly
See? Not all furries ate bad. Most of them are great people. I have a therian friend. She's chill.
these should work irl too, and honestly at any convention
I apparently need that "Leave me alone" badge... but the "Respectfully F*** Off!" badge has a nice ring to it too...

Us Military Prototype Combat Boots W/ Bare Footprint
It wouldn't take a bright person long to recognize these were not bare feet. The average American soldier in Vietnam weighed ~155lbs and would have longer strides and sink deeper into the soil than a Viet Cong weighing ~120lbs. And, depending on the sponginess of the soil, the boot edges would make an imprint. One of those "looked good on paper" ideas.
Load More Replies...So enemy trackers in some barefoot regime can't tell they are military boots, I'd guess.
But would prob pick up on the front and back where there is a sharp edge?

A Bathroom, 275 Feet Below The Ground. Mammoth Cave National Park, USA
I don't get it. Why is this picture here? Yes, it's got rock for a ceiling, but otherwise it's just a perfectly normal public toilet, nothing whatsoever of any note, AFAICT.
That it is a perfectly normal public toilet -is- what makes it something of note.

Bird Seed Went Untouched For So Long It That Turned Into A Little Garden
Yes, I'm more fascinated by that than the seeds sprouting.

A word of caution for people with pets. Do NOT get a salt lamp. They may start licking it and since it makes them thirsty they keep doing it until they acquire salt toxicity.

They do melt in humid conditions, so unless extremely dry or you leave light inside, the real salt rock all dissolves. Keep away from children and pets.
Well they give off a beautiful warm glow, as they're lit from below from a very small wattage bulb. I have one that has a hollow carved in it that takes a votive candle. And supposedly... "Salt lamps purify the air by attracting water molecules and absorbing them, along with any other contaminants the water molecules may be carrying, into the salt crystal. As the lamp heats up when it's on, the same water is thought to evaporate back into the surrounding environment without all the contaminants.May 8, 2024" So there you go!

SHHHH. We haven't told people about our banana peel car crash scheme yet. Oh. Whoops!
Load More Replies...From "Hyce" on Youtube: Those derailing devices are placed on tracks that lead into facilities and would prevent trains and engines from crashing into buildings in case there is no way to slow them down
I guess it's a safety thing for when there's people working on the track?
This is a temporary derail. These are used when they have to do some work on the track, and don't want errant cars or trains running over that section. If you look further down, you can see another one on the other rail. Something likely broke between those two derails and they're having to fix it.
Looking for a better explanation (which there was) I clicked the Reddit link and went down a rabbit hole about Crazy eights CSX #8888 that I forgot about. It happened in Ohio May 2001 so ithe investigation was quickly overshadowed by 9/11 around here. But I remember the movie Unstoppable with Denzel Washington because I watch anything Denzel. So now I gotta watch that movie since I’ve come out of the rabbit hole and Wiki wonderland.
I didn't realize that general populace didn't know about "derails" ...but then I forgot how many years Ive been railfanning.

If this is happening to your pills, tell a pharmacist or the manufacturer. Capping should not be happening at all and something is going wrong, bt they can't fix it if they don't know.

It's the marketing slogan for Joe Boxer, founded by Nick Graham. And yes, it is indeed put there to emphasize the importance of changing your underwear daily.
Eww, I know. I wash all underwear at 60°. The washing instructions can say what it says. It will last if it lasts. I looked at cute socks today but didn't buy them because I'm sure I won't wash them anywhere at 30° and they were too lovely to destroy.

No, those spaces are usually closer to the exit and with better light. It's for women to feel safer. For families there exist family parking spaces that are wider too.

This is really bad and they should call wildlife service before they spread this decease.. I dont remember the name, but it spreads, both among the animals but also over the body. Poor thing..
The antler deformity is called Cactus Buck and is caused by low testosterone. However, it a side effect of multiple causes. In this instance, the tumour on the right front leg is more telling and likely a sign of what has caused Cactus Buck. Definitely call wildlife services, thi animal is very ill and quite likely in pain.
Load More Replies...No, definitely Cactus Buck. Note also the tumour on the right front leg.

This is called Cactus Buck, a malformation caused by low testosterone. The antlers are just a side effect of something else though, the tumour is more worrying.

My daughter had tubs in her ears a 1 year of age. They fell out when she was almost 3. When she was five, they did a hearing test at school and said the hearing in her right ear was less than the left. We took her to the doctor and my lovely daughter had some how managed to get a popcorn kernel stuck in the hole where the tubs were. I still don't know how she did that one!!

The liquid on the inside of the glass can become hotter than 100°C while being "packed in" with cooled liquid, When you remove it it'll turn to vapor instantly and "exploding" in your face. Leaving a spoon in will distribute the heat more evenly. Must be a solid piece of metal, though.
Load More Replies...This Cake Weighs Nowhere Near The Listed Weight
Nominal weights on prepacked items are quite often quite a lot lower than the actual weight, although not usually to this extent. One local supermarket to me often sells chicken breasts or whole chickens as 'per item' with a standard weight. I bought two 240g packs last week, one of them weighed in at 285g, the other at 330g on my kitchen scales.
We sell cheese by 500g. If more than 500 when we cut we don't care, we just packed it. And the "end piece" is usually far more than 500. Small piece that's 262g will not sell (by experience) so we don't bother. Last piece 790g? It will make a customer happy.

Ok guys hear me out, it's for children's movies and school field trips, it's not for adults wanting peace and quiet it's to let kids play fir a bit before the movie so they will pay more attention during the movie, let out their energy you know
If it's like the ones we have here, the playground is only open BEFORE the movie starts, it isn't open during the movie. Let's the kids run off some energy before sitting for the movie.
They will see the playground the whole time though... and want to go there.
