You’d assume that in the Western world, arranged marriages have become a thing of the past. But according to Reddit user Careful_Echidna554, they’re not.
Last week, the American turned to r/TrueOffMyChest to vent about her supposed traumatic experience in an attempt to gain ownership of it.
The woman claims her parents gave her away to a grown man while she was still in high school, and believes she would probably still be trapped in his grip if she hadn’t developed a scheme to prevent pregnancy.

I am a Visual editor at Bored Panda, I'm determined to find the most interesting and the best quality images for each post that I do. On my free time I like to unwind by doing some yoga, watching all kinds of movies/tv shows, playing video and board games or just simply hanging out with my cat

I'm so glad OP is doing well. Anyone in a similar situation, once you're married you're legally an adult and you can just leave, there's no legal way to force you back you can initiate divorce proceedings once you're away. Even if there's a missing persons report, all the police can share is that you're fine and not missing. It's better ifnyou get away with your documents, but it's really common not to and shelters and other groups supporting survivors of spousal a***e know how to deal with this, it's just extra paperwork.
