My husband died in April. While he was in the hospital he couldn't wear his ring, so I started wearing it on middle finger, left hand, next to the beautiful ring he got me for our wedding. And there they stay. Period. I'm not interested in getting married again (I'm 61) but someday there may be a relationship with the right man who will respect that and be okay with my rings. I don't know if I'll consider moving to the other hand or not one day bottomline is that it will always be my decision. And who knows - maybe that man will be widowed and want to wear his ring :-)

Once upon a time I was sort of "that girl" in that my boyfriend was spending almost every night at our place (home life bad and we were in our 20s). My roommates sat me down and we had a reasonable discussion about it, boyfriend started staying less until I made plans to move out. BUT in the meantime, one of my roommates (there were 3 of us) literally moved her boyfriend into her room and he gave up his apartment. But that was "okay" because he was suffering from severe depression and shouldn't stay alone. Even though he literally never left the room except to use the bathroom (she brought meals to him in bed), he was always there even if she wasn't. This expedited my departure. Recommend OP have the talk, but also start considering other options.

Not as awkward as it is sad. I've been a server for a while, and one of my regulars was a older couple. They hadn't been to the restaurant for a few months, but the menu changed and we had lost a bunch of regulars. -I'm clueless- About a month ago the husband comes in alone, and I ask him about his wife. He started crying and told me she died and he was afraid to come in alone. I sat down and hugged him for a while, then grabbed the owner who talked with him over dinner. He stayed 5 hours. Note to all servers, you don't know what kind of day your customer is having. Be a good human.

Delusional Friend Of 22 Years Asks For Financial Support As She Wants To Quit Her Job And Travel

When my mom passed several years ago, my husband's family asked for money thinking I got a lot of insurance payout (there wasn't insurance). When my husband passed earlier this yea, his family told me that he once told them if something happened to him, I would be "okay". I am "okay" - my house is paid for, I have a good job, he had a good retirement fund that I've rolled into mine, his medical bills were covered, and I got a little bit more that is being entirely spent on house repairs he had not gotten to himself. His family took "okay" to mean something very different. I've been asked for his car (for free, of course) and to provide housing/financial assistance for a family member. All while I'm scaling back my own expenses and trying to figure out my own life. Death makes too many people try to figure out "what's in it for ME?"

So it is a private party that requires wearing color coordinated "costumes"? Sounds to me like there will also be photos taken and shared. I can't speak to the religious implications of that, but seems to be those would likely be shown to men outside of the bridal party, right? Way I see it, I'm not Muslim and I've never been comfortable in a bikini, even when I was skinny and attractive. Just say you aren't comfortable with the outfit, period. You don't owe anyone an explanation, especially since they will just try to poke holes in it.

I live in a small neighborhood, and for a time was regularly receiving packages for a house on street over, same house number different street name. A couple of times I ran the packages to the house if I was on my way out anyway, but this got old fast. Suggested to the neighbor I could text them so they could pick up, but they didn't seem keen on that. So I started reporting the incorrect delivery online to the carrier. I was told to print something they sent, attach to the box, and leave on porch. Sometimes it would take 3-4 days for them to pick it up (even though they came regularly to drop stuff off). They would have to take back to office, record pick up, and then take back out for delivery. Waste of everyone's time...except mine :-)

I don't know why people are down voting you. Not making time to do activities his wife who is recovering from an injury can do is rude. Sure, if they want to do some more physical ones communicate and say "hey, I know you can't, but do you mind if I head out with Kate to do some paddleboarding? Then I can take you out for lunch" it doesn't seem too hard to be able to balance doing fun things and looking after your wife.

I believe in being the bigger person, not the retaliatory person. One time Grandma was told to stop. She didn't. Time to sit Grandma down and have a talk about the hurtful nature of her comments and that it will not be tolerated. Then if Grandma does it again, you firmly remind her that there has been a boundary set and she is expected to back off. You don't just hit her back like it is some kind of playground fight.

My husband/I let a friend stay with us for about 3 months one time when she was between apartments. She ultimately moved in with a boyfriend. Some time later after cheating on the boyfriend (he actually offered to let her stay and work on things, but she cheated because she didn't have the nerve to break things off and figured he would throw her out), she showed up at our door "for a few days". Six months later she finally moved back home with her parents out of state, leaving us with a huge phone bill and daily calls from debt collectors trying to find her. We have never allowed anyone to "stay a few nights" since!

I've never understood why people gift things that are so clearly not appropriate for the recipient! I married into a family that was very much that way, but with a twist. There were 3 daughters and 2 DILs (I'm one). For Christmas, if one daughter collected a particular thing - in one case, it was antique dolls - then we ALL got a doll from her parents. Because that made things "fair" and they got a good price. Dolls weren't identical, so everyone but me gifted their doll to the collector. I donated mine :-) My gift, my choice.

OMG this post was so validating for me. For YEARS we would get framed photos of school photos for Christmas from his family. Kids that we were not actually close to. This year during a massive house clean out, I donated boxes and boxes of picture frames to a local charity where the in-laws will never see them...and didn't bother taking those photos out!

I read this and had to laugh - I have had the opposite problem my whole married life. I am one of the 2 DILs and there are 3 daughters. I am also an only child, and we didn't have children. For many years I was told that my place for holidays, birthdays, any kind of gathering was to be at their house because I was a daughter now. Nope, my parents were my priority. Got so bad that my husband started prioritizing my parents over his because they were kind to him. Reluctantly his family eventually accepted this. But since my husband passed earlier this year and my parents are gone, I've been getting pressured to come back. I still have my own relatives that I will prioritize, and my friends that have been rock during this difficult time. I am not and have never been one of their daughters.

Have a friend who had to go through a series of shots last year because off-leash dog "who had never been aggressive before in his life" approached her on-leash dog. When she stepped between, off-leash bit her. Owners came and collected dog, and while she was getting first aid they disappeared with dog. This was on a vacation, so she had no idea where to locate these people, or if they were even local. Doctor advise shots in case off-leash was not vaccinated for rabies.
