Except downvotes don't mean disagree, they mean "this person is breaking the rules, get them banned". Disagreement I expect, I welcome, it's how we learn. But that's not what happens here. And I never said I had no sympathy, I am pointing out that my experience is with people who have no sympathy. But I get it. I'm off

You'd be surprised. I wish I were surprised by the downvoted on my original comment. As the owner of a uterus I'm using *exact* reasons given for why the sympathy waned. Both for myself and for a former coworker who had lupus. But I put a comment that countered the echo chamber post and here we are.

I think at least part of the issue here is that an injured limb or organ malfunction (with the exception of the kidneys) is very much expected to be a unique one off. I am assuming the "malfunction" of the uterus here refers to menstrual cramps - something that frequently happens on a monthly, or at least regular basis (and f-ing sucks!). If you got food poisoning after a night out on a Sunday so you were off ill on the Monday, you'd get sympathy. If it happened every third Monday, the sympathy is going to wane. (Big difference there is that your boss will most likely just ask you not to keep going back to that restaurant)

When someone goes into cardiac arrest which is recoverable, their heart actually goes into what's called ventricular fibrillation - in layman's terms it sits there wobbling like a jelly on a tumble dryer, completely unable to beat properly and thus push blood around the body. What a defibrillator actually does is *stop* the heart from wobbling and give it the opportunity to get back to normal rhythm. A completely stopped heart won't come back with defibrillation because it's already stopped - there's no rhythm to change.

To be clear, had she just gone with "guys flirting with me in the street, in the coffee shop, wherever", I probably wouldn't have even remembered the Sally incident and just completely agreed with her. Something about the age mention rubbed me up the wrong way - it just gave me "Ugh, these 5' 11" guys are flirting with me, gross" vibes.

No, i kind of agree with this - when you see the statistic that somewhere in the region of 65-80% of dating app users are men, women can feel better about themselves that they must be doing something right to not need such an app to be happy.

Now to address the other side. Even leaving aside the odd age specification, this woman still has a point. My example with Sally is the *exception*, and women do get hit on all the time. There is a time and a place and an opportunity - the opportunity is when *she* is open and receptive to being flirted with. Bars are actually a safe bet, since culturally this is a place to meet people. The street is not. It is the opposite - unless you are returning her fallen keys, asking if she knows the time of the next train (acceptable only in an actual train station, you are not from the area and there is literally no information kiosk), or she approaches you - the street is NOT the dating scene.

I believe there's so much more to this. For a start "not 35 year olds"? So she'd be fine with over/under 35s hitting on her? (Unless she's 18 and it was a 35 yo, in which case, yes, ew). Secondly, fun story time - about 20 years ago while on a girls shopping spree a man approached me and my friend. I believe he got as far as "excuse me" before my friend went off on one, how men should just leave women alone, we can't got five yards without being flirted at, we aren't sex objects, and she stormed off. I actually spoke to the man for a moment before joining her where she tried to have a go at me for encouraging men. I had enough and interrupted "Sally, he was returning your keys, they'd fallen out of your bag." Not every interaction between a man and a woman in the street is flirting and hitting on. (Plus I'm fairly certain, based on watching the man return to his friends that he was gay).

This used to be called "working to rule" it's something that unions in the UK (other countries maybe?) use as a tactic before a strike or in instances when a strike can't happen. Staff basically do what their contract states and nothing extra. A lot of industries run on the goodwill of their employees who will go the extra mile to ensure they can deliver the service expected by their customers/the country, in the case of public services. I think a lot of employers forget how much they owe their staff, they have consistently run with a skeleton staff by having one person doing the work of three and wages not matching that and promotions not going to those who deserve it.

It's true that junk food is paradoxically cheaper than wholesome, healthy food. But one thing is buying frozen pizza instead of veggies, a whole different thing is buying straight up candies. Let's begin with not putting candies on the trolley, then buy frozen pizza and a couple of canned vegetables. Put the veggies on the pizza (or on the side) and you have a half decent meal.
