I just googled this one out of curiosity. It's not actually abandoned and is within a well-maintained cemetery, it appears as though photographers call it abandoned to add to the aesthetic. It was built in 1855 around the cholera epidemic and houses the remains of those who could not afford a private burial plot but needed to be interred quickly due to the epidemic.

I mean, it's not THAT selective of locations. I'm a NZ'er and spent a few years travelling the country in a motorhome so have been to most of these places and a lot of them are really common spots to visit. Looks like they spent most their time in the South Island though, which is a pretty spread-out region and a huge section of the upper South Island is a national park (hence being very scenic and not residential). The North Island is where most of our population lives but definitely has scenic spots (Cape Reinga, Cathedral Cove/Coromandel, Mount Maunganui). If you ever plan a visit here, ask the locals first for the best places to visit!

Queenstown is one of NZ's major tourist spots, particularly in winter because of the snow. Lockdown is having a pretty major effect on our tourism unfortunately.

It's far more boring than baseball. Sometimes while airing the games live on tv they'll zoom in on birds etc and talk about absolutely nothing because even the presenters are bored.

The funny thing is that the pictures are actually accurate, rather than an "expectation vs. reality" thing. I live in NZ's largest city and even then I'm about a 5min drive from at least 3 beaches. About 90% of the country lives within 20 metres of a beach but we are a long, skinny country so that's not difficult.

Not a teacher but the daughter of one. My dad had a student tell him during the fun fact question in detail about how his goldfishes died that morning and how he experimented on their corpses. He had pictures on his phone of the skin off and the intact skeleton next to it. He is a successful taxidermist now so silver linings I guess.
