Finding the right balance between work and personal life is not that easy sometimes, so we were curious to know how someone can maintain a healthy work-life balance without being seen as a workaholic or lazy. Mei Phing told us that setting boundaries at work does not make one a bad person - “it just means you are focused on delivering your performance targets in the most efficient and effective way.”
Are you someone that ends up working long hours and/or on weekends? Mei Phing revealed that it happens to a lot of people because they lack clarity on their performance goals, and spend hours dealing with unimportant small tasks. “Set up an alignment meeting with your boss to confirm you're focused on the right priorities and a monthly session to ensure you're progressing in the right direction.”

Since we spend most of our time working, it's important to find happiness and fulfillment in our jobs. But with the stress of work and the "Monday blues," it can be tough to stay positive and motivated. According to Mei Phing, choosing the right job for this time of your life is the most important decision you make before signing the job offer. “Firstly, determine what you want at this point. A higher salary? A better job title? A broader learning experience? Getting clarity on what you're looking for will give you the inner motivation to start, adapt and perform at your best - you're progressing towards your bigger career goals!”

My company just got bought by a bigger company about 6months ago, so far about 8 people gave their notices, just an example- we would get summer/holiday bonuses, last Xmas we got $1400, we might just get a $20 gift card , just an example, the people that left had been there at least 15 or more years

She told us that it is important to acknowledge that some people are just different from you - personality, communication styles or working habits - and it's normal to get a little frustrated from time to time. “I've found it helpful to understand my colleagues' work priorities and how I can best align them with my own performance targets. Identifying a common goal, no matter how small, is the best way to collaborate at the workplace.”

Former position my cubicle neighbors always laughed when I hung up. They'd say "if they only knew or heard you after you hung up". My new position there is no phone 😁

Someone at work told me I should smile more and I replied they should stay at their desk more; never mentioned smiling to me again.
I once asked a female co-worker to go hang out (not a date) at a restaurant/bar downstairs. I had asked other people as well, male and female, just trying to make friends at a new job. I then somehow got a "reputation" for hitting on all the women at work. WTF? That escalated quickly. I have since not tried to make friends with co-workers.
I haven't had any where near enough coffee, to deal with this cheerful muthafucka.
Gets interesting when you largely do make the rules, and have just screwed up, and are hoping they don't put that together. (Did I severely overcharge someone on some canned cocktails? Yes. Was it because I was still processing his previous question, which was "are these the same canned cocktails my buddy bought?" Also yes. I genuinely felt bad and was very glad when he came back to return them and get the ones he wanted, at the correct price.)
A manager I had called me a nickname only my family ever used and it was wierd. Like no, that's not what I ever go by outside of my house so it's other full name or this shortened variation not that nickname ever.
