Fact checked by Dr.Linda Simon, MVB, MRCVS
The Maine Coon is the world’s largest domesticated cat, and one of the most beloved. In this fully updated guide, we break down their size, temperament, history, grooming needs, cost, health concerns, and what makes them such gentle giants. After the guide, enjoy our massive gallery of 140 real Maine Coon photos showing their true scale and beauty.
But what value does information have without any visual aids, especially when we are discussing adorably cute cats?
That’s why, along with the whole breed overview, we’ve included a 140-photo gallery featuring Maine Coons in real-life settings, capturing their size, personality, and undeniable charm.

Not a Persian, note the elongated snout and the prominent "M" coloring on his forehead. Clearly a Maine C**n.

This one looks a lot like my Monster, except he is a short haired. I suspect he is only half Maine C**n because he's only about 38 pounds and doesn't have the long hair.

This is Mephisto. His mother is a European Shorthair, a stray that I have fed but was not able to catch. She left but her son stayed behind. No idea about the father.

Nope! No photoshop!!! Those cats are that large, I own one myself. Not everything is photoshopped. :) Maine Coons are just the best!
JeanneDeaux 10 years ago
You're right, but there is always a photoshop whore on every article... They don't even know how to use photoshop, what you can or can't do with it, but still, they see photoshop pictures everywhere.
