Twain admitted that getting older once left her struggling with her appearance, but she said her mindset has completely changed.
Speaking about the criticism she has received over the years, she told People on July 30, “My body is not shameable. That courage comes with time and maturity.”
She added, “Body shaming is nothing that’s going to affect me.”
Twain explained that reaching this point took time. She now believes her health matters far more than chasing a younger appearance.

“It is well-being first, always,” she added.
Looking at herself in the mirror no longer brings the same anxiety it once did.
She told the outlet, “I’m like, I just have to get over this because every day that goes by, I’m getting older; the dips and bulges and the sags are just getting more and more prominent.”
Twain also encouraged others to appreciate themselves as they are.
“I encourage everybody: enjoy yourself the way you are right now and love it,” she said.
The icon summed up her new outlook by adding, “Vanity is not worth torture.”

Twain further shared that her body-image struggles became especially difficult during her 2019 Las Vegas residency.
At the time, she said she could barely look at herself.
“I go from being this young, stunning figure, beautiful skin, everything’s in the right place [to a] time in my life where I couldn’t look in the mirror because all I could see were imperfections.”
She also struggled with the physical effects of menopause.

During that period, she shared she was dealing with bloating while unknowingly becoming dehydrated and malnourished.
She explained, “I wasn’t drinking enough water, I was not eating enough protein, and I was really going through a raging period of menopause.”
Twain also cut back too much on salt. “I wasn’t eating enough salt, I wasn’t retaining any water, and I wasn’t drinking enough water. It was just this perfect storm for disaster.”

The combination eventually caused her to tear two muscles in her thigh during a performance.
Looking back, Twain said menopause taught her an important lesson.
Rather than trying to control every physical change, she has learned to adapt to them.
Now, she accepts that some things cannot be changed and focuses on taking care of herself.

Twain’s comments came shortly after her performance at London’s Wembley Stadium, where she opened for Harry Styles, went viral online.
During her performance of Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, she wore a sheer black lace dress over satin lingerie. She performed energetic dance moves that included crouching low and lifting her leg, at one point nearly suffering a wardrobe malfunction, as reported by Bored Panda.

One person wrote, “This was not on my bingo card for 2026,” while another added, “So tacky. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”
Another user quoted one of her biggest hits by writing, “That doesn’t impress me much.”
Others suggested she needed a different stylist.
One wrote, “Shania and Madonna need to consult with Cher’s stylist.”
Another said, “Please stop this.”
Criticism also continued on X.
One commenter wrote, “Looks like something you might find in a Frederick’s of Hollywood catalog. Trashy, not classy.”

Another added, “It doesn’t work for Madonna. It doesn’t work for Shania.”

Twain finished her message with, “Life is too short to wear boring clothes!!”
She has shared similar views in other interviews.
Speaking to The Independent on June 20, she said, “I have a 60-year-old body, but I will walk on the beach in my bikini. I don’t really care if people are OK with it or not.”

“She’s always been beautiful. She doesn’t need to do all this,” wrote one user
