The advent of online shopping drastically changed the world as we know it. Finally, we didn’t have to spend hours driving from store to store to find exactly the dress or couch that we had in mind. Instead, we could just hop online from the comfort of our homes, type in a few keywords and find endless options at our fingertips. However, this is a blessing and a curse. Because when we don’t get to see items in person, we don’t always know exactly what we’re paying for.
One page that knows this all too well is the What I Ordered Vs. What I Got Instagram account. This page features hilarious photos of online shopping fails that occurred when people put way too much faith in a product that’s price was too good to be true. Enjoy scrolling through these tragic images, and be sure to upvote the ones that have convinced you to stop shopping online for good!

If you know anything about tattoos. They show you the stencil before they put it on.
Looks like a kitchen table tattoo, done by your buddy’s a**hole of a brother who just bought a tattoo gun off Amazon.
3 biggest mistakes people make with tattoos is 1) NEVER get a name unless it's your mother, father or kids, 2) Never get writing in foreign languages without making 1000% sure what it says/means & 3) not making sure the tattooist is actually an artist to begin with. If they can't draw detailed pictures on paper, the tat is going to be 10X worse than that. A good tat is all about the detail.
Must of been cos I have to admit to owning the first pair from city beach by mooloola in every colour they came in except the white 😂 they are comfy shoes
Load More Replies...How often do you order something online? Do you find yourself perusing clothing websites every time you get bored, or do you only resort to ordering items when you’ve already tried every single shop in your city? According to Oberlo, there were over 273.49 million online shoppers in the United States in 2024, and that number is only expected to rise over the next 5 years.
When it comes to what these shoppers are purchasing the most, clothing is the number one item people are ordering. After that comes shoes, food and beverages, cosmetics and body care items, pet products, books and entertainment, accessories, drugstore and health products, consumer electronics and toys and baby products.
Do you guys not check out the dimensions of the stuff you're buying. Remember that a "good" deal on furniture isn't a good deal if you buy something for $200 without checking it out first, and get mini-furniture.
Sometimes it's hard to remember how many bananas are in a football field.
Load More Replies...And this, folks, is why you ask to see some of your tattoo artists' work *before* you spend hours having them stick needles into your skin.
Is their business next to the cooling pool of a nuclear power plant ?
If you think online shopping has gotten out of hand already, Instapage predicts that a whopping 95% of purchases will be made online by 2040. And inBeat Agency reports that the average European consumer is already spending over $1,000 per year on online shopping.
As far as where customers are spending their money, it’s not surprising that Amazon is leading the way in e-commerce in the United States. But there are some extremely successful companies following behind, including Walmart, Apple, eBay, Target, The Home Depot, Costco, Best Buy, Carvana and Kroger.
Totally heard that in Shrek's voice. didnt-use-...ab-png.jpg
Well, it looks like the used fondant at least. But why the leaves on the head like some weird mullet & not on the body as in the first pic?
It's like the dress on the left was descrbed over a bad phone line to the person making the one on the right by someone who's got zero knowledge about clothes
Load More Replies...To be fair, the original was nothing to write home about, either. Both dresses look like they were designed for a formal event at Barbie's Nightmare House.
You’re right on parts, the well sewn one would genuinely only look good on someone with long legs and a thing frame, it’s not a very smart dress to base anything off if you don’t look like a mannequin. The right is just so badly sewn, I just wanna squish in and fix the back hemlines and make the skirt more mermaid cinched and actually flatter her figure.
Load More Replies...When you order from these sites, they won't take the disaster back. A so called bargain isn't.
It’s not hard to see why so many consumers prefer online shopping. It’s convenient, it’s easy to find the best deals, and it allows customers to find countless products that they wouldn’t have even known existed if they only shopped in-store. Plus, the experience is painless for shoppers who don’t have cars, don’t want to sit in traffic and don’t want to have to interact with employees. But is it really worth it?
At this point, unless it’s from a known clothing retailer…do NOT order clothes online. It’s a sewer of ai/stolen images.
In this case, the man makes the clothes. It's a garment, not a transmogrifier.
Stuff like this makes my blood boil. It is false advertising and is meant to scam the public.
Or those pop-up scam websites that last about three months.
Load More Replies...I can't wrap my mind around how this technically looks exactly like the ad while also not even being close. It's the right color, same shape and style... but it's not the same thing at ALL
Aside from the obvious risk of not knowing exactly what’s going to show up on your doorstep, there are some other downsides to online shopping. First of all, it’s terrible for the environment. Earth.org reports that all of this online shopping means companies are creating excessive amounts of waste, from bubble wrap to boxes. And sadly, not even 14% of the plastic waste that’s produced globally each year actually ends up getting recycled.
I want to stop scrolling, but all these posts are as tempting as rubber-necking at a horrific accident.
WHAT THE BLOODY HELL? the color is wrong, the build is ugh, and the sleeves….
Are you sure these 2 photos were meant to be together? Completely different!
I am a former cake decorator. This one is actually not too hard to do if you use fondant which rolls out easy and is pliable similar to play dough. The hair and mouth are black frosting out of piping bag. My question is why did they add teeth?
You guys don't bake, do you??? True, I don't have the skills or patience to do it, but you could definitely make it
Right, I don't believe it's AI at all, just a very well decorated cake
Load More Replies...It wouldn't be that hard for someone who actually DOES do cakes to make that properly.
Load More Replies...It’s NOT! Look at the legs! The AI image was placed IN FRONT of the model! 🤣
Load More Replies...AI vs real life. Looking at it you can tell it's AI. So why would you expect it to actually look like that?
But it’s not just the packaging that can be harmful to the planet when we order things online. We also have to consider the impact of shipping and transportation. Statista reports that in 2020, the shipping and return of products purchased virtually accounted for 37% of the total GHG emissions created by e-commerce. And sadly, this issue is expected to only get worse, as it’s estimated that by 2030, the sheer amount of delivery vehicles on the roads will increase by 36%. Meanwhile, it will actually take them longer to reach customers due to the increase in traffic.
That's a Singer treadle sewing machine in the background. Perhaps she could remake it? Or not!
Maybe a first attempt at an elaborate cocktail dress, it could also be modified to suit whatever culture they are apart of for modesty whilst keeping the main dress vibes? . It’s hard to tell from this
Load More Replies...The product image is clearly AI/photoshopped. Do people really buy such stuff?!
Woman across the hall from me is always buying cr@p from places like Temu. Then complains it's not like the photo. Well, Gladys, one of these days, you might get lucky or go bankrupt.
Load More Replies...Took me a second to realize the dress is supposed to be two birds meeting beak to beak and not some twin beaked monstrosity.
This is awful both ways. You're not getting that photo for less than thousands.
It's hideous, why would anybody want it other than fir a costume & a really bad 1 at that.
Why would you buy an AI dress and expect it to look like the picture? That woman doesn't have ribs or internal organs. You'd have to sculpt the dress feather by feather on top of you with plastifoam or something.
As you can clearly see from this list, if the price of an item online seems too good to be true, it probably is. It’s really not worth it to buy a cheap knock-off that you think will save you money if, in reality, the product is completely useless. So if you want to avoid this problem altogether, might I recommend quitting online shopping? It might feel like a huge hassle to drive from store to store or actually spend time trying on clothes, but I promise that it will be worth it when you finally find the perfect piece. Plus, you'll never have to return an item via mail again.
Not even close. Where are the cupcakes?? That poor bird looks diseased!
Looks more like an kiwi birb, but to thin and to short beak.
Load More Replies...And a very cool idea in the cupcakes as feathers👍🏼
Load More Replies...Forget the feathers (which are already quite bad), what’s with the colouring of the bird??
This is relative, tho. The girl on the left may have extensions and thicker hair than the girl on the right, she did get what she asked for, that is the hair style.
They should have added fake hair, that's what's done mostly

Whenever I see these kinds of nail comparisons I wonder why the client didn't intervene? I mean you can literally watch the nail tech work on your nails in real time and from up close. Why not say "waaaait this isn't what we agreed on, this looks terrible already" instead of waiting until it's finished?
Another great aspect of doing your shopping in person is that it will probably make you a much more mindful consumer. It’s easy to impulsively order an item that you spotted online in a matter of seconds. But when you actually have to travel to a store, get to feel an item and have to check-out with a cashier, you might just decide that you didn’t need the item after all. Or you may decide to think about it for a few days, as it’s clear that there’s no rush when there are dozens of the same item available!
"I don't know, where I'm gonna go, when the volcano blows..."
I'm pretty sure I made the shirt on the right in 7th grade home ec class. It was essentially a bag with three holes at one end, more or less in usual places.

It's a lace-front wig. You trim the lace when you do the wig fitting.
Load More Replies...Just buy a tasty cake and enjoy it with family and friends. Not all those c**p frosted stuff
most of the "pretty cakes" featured look like they are made with fondant whch i think is just nasty. id rather just have a sweret butter cream cake with those little rose flowers on it.
Load More Replies...Not one of the worst (oh lordy I need to stop scrolling now). It would be ok ish if you made it for a friend for free. But not to charge for.
Just edit it to Swinger and add some B**M stuff. It already looks a little like that
While the dress she received is a travesty, there is no way the style shown would have fit her body shape properly. There are much more flattering styles that would have looked good on her.
Get a shawl and drape around her shoulders. And starch the bottom. and don't let people see the original, it will do.
I also suspect the image on the right is burned into her spouse's retinae. That's a lot power. I wouldn't want to stand between her and something she wanted.
Load More Replies...The Magicuts "special". (For those who don't know, Magicuts is a cheap hair salon chain, known for their inexpensive prices for very basic hair cuts and styles. If you go in for layering, perms, colours, or anything that takes more than 1 week of hair stylist training, they will butcher your hair.)
Cannot get more basic than a buzzcut. But somehow walked out with a reverse mohawk.
Load More Replies...She shouldn’t worry- look at her amazing eyes and lips. I’d be. Using mascara eyeliner.. lip gloss and highlighting those features
She clearly is not happy with how her hair turned out. She doesn't need makeup.
Load More Replies...Sorry I read that as transvestites, which doesn't seem that wrong in this case.
Load More Replies...I don’t understand how all these people think they can order what are clearly couture dresses online from discount sites and think the result will be anything other than disastrous.
I think the second dress is a very pretty colour. If that stupid ruffle thing was removed I think it would be fine?
The ones on the right look like fangs with exposed gums.
Load More Replies...Always wondered how you wipe your a*s with these and not injure yourself?
Toilet paper and a flat hand. Same deal with shorter nails. I'm more curious if they ever accidentally gouge their eye when they sneeze or stab themselves if they get an itch. But my biggest concern with any long nail is how they get their jeans on or open anything, or fold sheets and blankets without a nail ripping. I used to have mid length nails at the most, a bit shorter than these, round shaped, and that's what it always felt like. I had to file them down a bit to function.
Load More Replies...This can be easily fixed with a nail file and a light, slightly transparent milky while gel polish.
Why wait until the whole hand is finished though? After one nail you could tell it was going to be a shoddy job.
Left picture: the frills on the side are not doing anyone any favours though.
Seriously what are these women thinking to buy these kind of dresses off the internet. Take the picture and go to a seamstress
They probably did. These are clearly something granny cobbled together and failed the landing.
Load More Replies...It’s just the waistline that’s doing my head in 😂 I not sure how they sewed all the hard parts so well, and the easier part on the waist to skirt attachment so badly 😂
Load More Replies...Model on the left had scrambled eggs for breakfast and dropped the whole plate on her chest.
What is it with all these ugly dresses, though? I mean, the afters are a travesty, but the befores are horrendous anyway.
I expect these are for special occasions. And there's no accounting for taste.
Load More Replies...Tell them they forgot half a yard of fabric on the lower half of the dress. that said what a wreck.
Honestly if the under fabric lining matched the length from the original idea, it would look really good. But also with bringing the skirt hems for a more mermaid like look too.
Do y’all remember the website Cake Wrecks?! These are all contenders!
The site still exists and is going strong!
Load More Replies...Do this people not check the bakers web pages???? Sure to god, if all the do is victoria sponges and banoffee pies, they won't be able to pull that one out 🤦🤦🤦
I like the color of the green one better than the yellow, but yeah. They did her dirty with that bodice.
It's not without hope, take it to your Nana (what am I saying, if your Nana could sew you wouldn't be shopping off the net anyway).
It is close, though! If you are a size 26, don't expect a new dress to make you look like a size 8
You knew gravity was a thing when you ordered this, right?
They know the gravity of the situation now atleast..
Load More Replies...Exactly. Not sure what people expect for anything below $80.
Load More Replies...1st pic isn't even real! They deserved what they got. Clothes don't work that way.
You can absolutely use crin (usually a narrow strip of a horsehair based fabric) and boning to get fabric to hold its shape and defy gravity, particularly if you use a starched fabric that holds its structure to make an outfit like this.
Load More Replies...@anonymous well YOU sound like an idiot. lol.
Load More Replies...To answer the 'why' question in the title....because she is a gullible idiot.
Not that far off, and she may have ordered a different color than shown.
I don't sew garments myself - more of a project sewist - but I am stumped as to how they got that bodice shape in the first photo. Unless it's photoshop?
The two lines on the bottom of the chest area are seams. The material is cut and joined there to create cups.
Load More Replies...Belt, cute shoes, and don't stand like a disappointed duck, then she'll be fine
Load More Replies...Is that an ankle purse? It's so cute, but i can't imagine bending over to get my stuffl! *edited- typo*
This person usually sews kids /toddler gowns and tried to do an adult one or this is really a first attempt, the skills were alright but the toddler top part is ruining it for me unless we add some wings and a cute wand
How on earth did she think that's even vaguely possible with her hair type? This was just stupidity, your hair will never ever look anything like that
They're both awful. Surely no-one actually ordered a cake wanting something like either of these.
Yeeeeess... is that the waistline she's using as a neckline?
Load More Replies...Was it supposed to be a DIY?? Like they send you the fabric and you assemble it yourself?
Ladies, if the dress only costs $10 it's probably NOT going to look like the pic!
The brooch on the one on the left is giving Star Trek wedding guest.
With dark lace applied you could get away with it
Load More Replies...Completely different dresses. The red looks preferable IMO, but the one on the right seems alright.
But.. how does it work, you order a dress and they make the dress.. hoping it will look the same??
Horrible, just horrible. Looks like a kid made it. and they probably did.
Yes, cuz if it was made anywhere else in the world it would be a kilogram cake. I’ll see myself out😅
Load More Replies...Did they make the weights at the side out of flowers?
Well, Queen Bey’s wardrobe is kind of HAND SEWN JUST FOR HER! So good luck to anyone trying to they a knock off… 🤣
That's like taking a picture of someone famous into the hairdresser's and getting cross because you're not them.
this is just stupid. Beyonce's outfits are all custom. Why would anyone think they could get the same quality for $25-$50? And why does the woman's head look photoshopped onto the body?
It's wearable, and she was never going to look like the photo, nobody would.
The neckline is different but the the colors and plaid design are close to the picture.
Looks pretty identical. People seem to expect the body types are included the clothes
What!??! The design is very similar but the actual products are light years apart!
Load More Replies...If the fabric was the same as the original and not a "cheap halloween costume fabric" it would be surprisingly good 👍🏼
Pants need to be bigger and top made of clinger fabric. that will fix it.
Actually, the second one isn’t horrible, it’s just not as wide and brighter pink. That gold frame is awful.
If the modesty panel were the right shade for her, this would be fine.
This is the closest one I've seen. Do people not realize that their body doesn't magically transform into the model's body when they put the garment on?
Or materials. So many of the what I got photos show the same cheep thin low quality materials.
Load More Replies...So many of these for meant for hourglass figures, but they're pretty consistently ordered by women with apple shapes.
Don't pull when you're stitching braid onto fabric, or it will actually like elastic.
From what you can see in the picture, the one on the right seems fine.
A little steaming, a little tooling, it won’t be too bad! (At least in comparison to the others here…)
At least the appliqué lace flowers look the same. It'll steam our.
Pretty close, then. Just a different pattern lace on the skirt.
Wigs do need styling sometimes. Don't know what could be done for this one though
The darker area is the lace of the wig that’s not been trimmed. Lace-front wigs are exactly what the name implies. The hairs are attached to a netting. A section on the front remains and is trimmed to the contours of the wearer’s head/ face, then secured to the forehead, usually by a glue like spirit gum. This gives the illusion of a natural hairline and makes the wig appear to be the wearer’s own hair as opposed to a cheaper wig which is pulled on like a beanie, often showing a hard line or separation at the forehead hairline, looking like a hair hat, or obscured by stiff bangs which always immediately look like a wig. A lace-front can be further blended with makeup. Sure, up close it’s visible in person, but not immediately detectable and on stage, photographs or film, looks reasonably natural. It’s been the entertainment industry standard for hair pieces for decades. I’ve worn them myself when playing parts requiring period gentleman’s hairdo or instead of dying my own hair.
Load More Replies...That's made for a short torso and 6 in stilettos. And a rounder frame.
Except this is more like, who wore it better?
Load More Replies...Can't be too mad at this one. The jumpsuit isn't going to give you breast implants, a BBL, and a snatched waist.
With the proper undergarments, what she got would look immensely better than that AI monstrosity.
So the gradient of the colors are place different but otherwise its very close. Are they not aware they are buying the CLOTHES on the model, not the BODY?? They look so disappointed but what were they hoping for? A magical outfit that could transform their body? If that existed it would be sold out asap
Agreed. Why do ppl think that if there is a cute model, they will get the exact same body?
Load More Replies...If you want to look like the model on the left, go see your plastic surgeon.
Do these people not know that the garment isn't going to magically give you hips and breast implants?
A little ironing, a little weight lifting and it should fit very nicely. But love the shoes on both!
Load More Replies...It's a lot closer than most of the ones on here (or at least, the ones I've seen so far since this is currently at #11 & there's still quite a few on the list).
A number of these appear to be a case of ordering the wrong size and even more seem to be a case of “the dress won’t make your body look like the model’s”.
Advice for buying clothes. You get what you pay for; don't buy from Temu or Shein. Read reviews; on Amazon, I won't buy anything with less than 100 reviews, with pictures. Read product descriptions, I need to know what the item is made from. I will not wear polyester. And finally, know your body type. No matter how accurate the item is, it will look different on you than the (probably photoshopped) model. Also, make sure the company has a clear return policy.
I like to look for any photos that resemble my body and frame too in Reviews to really let it sink in wether it’s actually going to look good on me or I’m just imagining it
Load More Replies...Ordered a sweater online recently that looked like it was made of wool in the picture, but was totally synthetic nylon when it arrived... OK, could maybe deal with that, but when I tried to put it on I couldn't get my head through the hole!
OK so never order clothes, fingernails, or cakes on the web. got it.
