A robin's nest got blown out of a tree at my mother's house. We put all the debris into a basket and hung it from the tree. Momma Robin raised four babies in our basket. It was adorable.

I appreciate the use of black zip ties – the white ones would have gone brittle and fallen apart over time.
Since animals do so much for us, we at least should try to give some of that back. We can do so by being kind to them, taking action to help those already around us, and minimizing our individual impact on wildlife and industrial animal cruelty.
The first obvious step we can take to improve animal welfare, as suggested by the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA), is to adopt. Many adorable creatures enter shelters every day, and they definitely deserve a second chance at having a warm, loving home.

The first couple of times I had to board my dog at a kennel for a day (3-month checkups) I'd always leave a recently worn and unwashed T-shirt with him. Once he got used to being at the kennel it was no longer necessary.

Lol, I know the names of all my neighbor's dogs and cats, but not one of my neighbor's names.
If you don’t have the conditions to house an animal long-term, a great alternative is pet fostering. Foster caregivers help shelters double the number of animals they can rescue by giving them the best possible place to wait for their permanent home. All a person has to do to become one is love animals and be willing to learn. No previous animal experience is needed.
Of course, it’s worth mentioning that the longer they spend time with the animal, the harder it will be to part with them. So just keep in mind that pet fostering can end up with a furry fella in your home (but who would complain?).

In case fostering is not your cup of tea, you can try volunteering at an animal shelter. Thanks to volunteers, HRA can save 100,000 animals every year across their DC and New Jersey campuses. These contributors help with a variety of tasks, like training and caring for the animals, going for a walk in the park, helping them find new homes, and supporting community and special events. Many shelters would be very glad to have you if it’s something you might consider doing!

Shelters additionally post wishlists on their website full of things they need the most at their facilities. So if you are too busy or unable to foster or volunteer, this can be a great way to help the creatures in need.

If a person already has a four-legged companion in their care, the Humane Rescue Alliance stresses that they have identification. This can help in case the animal gets lost, as identification tags or microchips allow them to get home quickly and safely if they ever accidentally wander from home. Encouraging others to do the same ensures that owners aren’t separated from their beloved pets and prevents them from ending up in shelters by mistake.

Rats are so totally mis understood creatures. Domestic rats are awesome pets and so very smart.
In addition, it’s important to have a disaster plan for your pet in case of an emergency, whether it’s a natural disaster or a serious illness. Leaving a pet in a rush of disaster can result in them getting lost, injured, or even killed. This can all be avoided by having a plan of action and a pet emergency kit. My wife started feeding a stray cat but I'm allergic so we couldn't take her into our house. I built the cat her own instead. It's insulated and has electric heating. Look at that happy little face!

My dachshund tripped over his very tightly attached cone as he was leaving the vet surgery. I went back in , borrowed scissors and removed it. He was a good boy and didn't mess with his stitches. For the EBT Pearl I used an old babygro. Worked just fine.

For animals that freely roam outside, we should provide them with native pollinator and bird-friendly plants by planting them in our gardens. For example, sunflowers are great multipurpose plants that are great for pollinators for their blooms and birds can enjoy the seeds after that. It’s also recommended to avoid using pesticides when gardening, too, as these chemicals are harmful to insects and other animals.

The eagle is named Clark. He is not wild. He's trained to circle the stadium,. He got tired and landed on this guy Tuyen Nguyen, who is from Vietnam and most decidedly NOT Native American.

That eagle is banded on both legs. It's probably a rescue that couldn't be integrated back into the wild. He was trained to fly and queued where to land. This was not a wild bird who chose to do this of his own free will, lol

Diego the turtle was in a zoo for 30 years. In the wild, there were were 12 females and 2 males left of the species. The zoo did not know he was a Hood Island turtle, but once they ran his DNA and discovered his heritage, they shipped him off to the breeding program. They mixed the males with different females to produce as many eggs as possible. Diego fathered 40% of the eggs, a wild male fathered 60%, and the third only fathered a few. The species is back up to about 2000 now and the program has ended. The other turtle was called E5 but he was reclusive and did not like to mate when witnessed, Diego, however, was aggressive and not at all camera shy, so he got the majority of the credit.

My youngest cat had wet FIP as a kitten, which was 100% fatal before 2019 and the discovery of a new medication. During Preacher's treatment, I free-fed him so that he could have extra calories to help him fight the virus. He survived and ended up around 13 lbs. XD He's a large cat anyway, so he wasn't anywhere near the size of this poor kitty above, but my vet said he wanted Preacher around 10-10.5 lbs max. So we started Peps on a diet and he was HANGRY 24/7 XD And he only had 3 lbs to get to his target weight! But yeah, most of the time it's just as hard for a kitty to lose weight as it is for a human, and you can't explain to the cat WHY you're feeding him less/why he feels hungry ALL THE TIME. We helped reduce his stress by spreading his total food intake out to 3 meals a day. But yeah, sometimes it's really miserable for the kitties - but they'll live so much longer and healthier when they lose weight! <3

No matter how little carpet you have, they will almost always go to the carpet to yack. No carpet, the bed is next in line, then the laundry. Their last resort is a spot where you won't notice until you step in it and fall.

I swear house pets must have a "Puking Protocol" hardwired into their brain: If you need to puke then (1) if you need to choose between bare floor and carpet, go for the carpet (2) if you need to choose between carpet and tassels, go for the tassels (3) extra points if you manage to hit all three.

The exercise I got running around a vomiting cat with a pan or a tray or whatever I could get my hands on to catch the vomit, which stressed the cat and made everything all the more hectic. Easier to rip up all the carpets because bare floors are easier to clean.

One of my long gone cats would gag while running for the kitchen floor. I could run up and wait for him to finish and mop it up. All cats after him have gagged while running for the carpet, and if I make ANY move, they move too, puking as they go. Sigh.

No, Titus is a Newfie. Drooling is completely normal in breeds with long flews like that (such as the Newfoundland, the St. Bernard, and the Great Dane.)

My mom "borrowed" our Anatolian (livestock guardian dog for our sheep). My dad had to go out of town and it was the first time my mom was staying in their new house. When I gave her instructions on how to feed him I told her that he preferred to be spoon-fed after all of his food was mixed up and that I would be including a spoon and told her that he refused to use anything else. I tried to keep a straight face but failed miserably.

Heck, my German Shepherd mix had a half-birthday when he was 6 months old, complete with custom party hat, presents he could rip open, for-dogs cookies, and for-dogs cupcakes XD He had distemper and we weren't sure he would survive (it is over 80% fatal in puppies) so we figured we'd celebrate his half-birthday! Happily he survived and is two years old now - of course he still gets a birthday party every year, as do all four of my pets! XD I know the animals have no idea it's their birthday, but they enjoy getting fussed over - and the treats! stillys_ha...424b1e.jpg

That is the exact face my elderly floof had before she shredded the vet's hand when he tried to take her temperature. I told him not to do it, warned him what would happen, but Mr Fancy Degree thought he knew better. He did not, and now I have to find a new vet.

Good luck picking him up and moving him with out blowing out your back. Side note while he's freaking so round and adorable, people please..... I can not emphasize this enough, it is extremely unhealthy for any cat to be this over weight. Think of that cat being like a 800LB human. Please feed any of your animals the correct portions of food the correct times a day. If you give him one cup a day and they are screaming for food at night split the correct portions into 2 servings. This over feeding because you feel bad they are begging is what will cut your animals lives short by many years. You are not doing them any favors by over feeding them you are slowing killing them

That cat reminds me of those character pillows I've seen at Costco and walmart. Forget the name but sort of big and oval/round and each one has the face of some animal.

They usually specify that a pet might enter the area. Some places advertise it as an amenity. Others will specify that no pet is allowed. We go to a yurt where they used to ask you not to feed the dog and cat if they come begging and to message them to fetch the animals; but now they have put up a fence. It really depends on the place, and it's usually mentioned

I am a vegan. Please feed your carnivorous pets meat. I can survive without meat but my pets cannot. If you want a vegan pet, don’t get cats or dogs.

I am a vegan but my cats are most definitely not! I buy cat food that has been produced following high ethical standards (for my own conscience), yes, but my cats will have meat - absolutely no discussion about that.

I looked up the company - it looks like it's a real product, sadly. Their vegan cat kibble is made from "Soy, Pea protein, Faba Beans, Chickpea, rice, flax, yeast" according to their website. I'm utterly appalled.

Animals do not, and should not be made to, wear human-style clothes, and only need dressings if they're injured in some way. Let them be who they are, not surrogate children, please!
