On an everyday basis when you live in a country where people can't pronounce your name (even if they try) it's a lot more convenient for remembering purposes to use a western name, a lot of Chinese people I know do it. Not everyone you meet is a super close friend that will try to remember and say your name right everytime. I do try to say their name if I can, but they usually just introduce themselves with their western names.
