Mule Nannies Are Used In Italy When Grazing Animals Are Moved From High Pastures Down To The Plains
Newborn lambs are unable to make the journey own their own. They ride in pouches of a specially made saddle. At rest stops lambs are returned to their mothers for a meal & some nuzzling.
This is one of the many reasons I love donkeys/Mules. They are so sweet. They also protect the flock of sheep. They will kick and bite at anything trying to cause harm to the sheep 🐑
An Origami Woman In Dress, Folded From A Single Square Of Paper
Although no AI was used in the making of these pictures, artificial intelligence is one of the most polarizing topics nowadays on the Internet. Just a few weeks ago, the Pew Research Center published a study about Americans' perceptions of AI, and the majority of respondents believed it's going to harm the U.S.
As AI is permeating many aspects of our lives, people believe some areas will benefit from the technology. Like medical care: 44% of Americans think that AI will be useful to doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals. But people worry most about the impact of AI on the news and elections, as only around 10% believe it will have a positive impact on them.

I Recently Started Working In An Er At A Hospital. This Vein Finder Is The Coolest Piece Of Tech Equipment I’ve Come Across
Same, but once in a while I come across this matronly nurse who looks like she’s worked in that hospital for 50 years. She always finds my vein on first try where all other nurses claimed there are none.
Load More Replies...My arms were black and blue for weeks after several nurses and doctors tried to insert 4 cannulas. Two per arm. I got a little stroppy when they went for the hands because they had no success with the arms. It was horrible!
I don't need this to find my veins, there's actually a huge juicy one very noticable in both my arms... but then again I also have a heart condition that makes my body kinda different, I can see how people need this :) this is really cool tho
I was told by a nurse last week that I had "nice veins". It's probably due to low body fat.
Doesn't work for me, doctors regularly joke that they're not sure how my arms are still attached as my veins are goddam awful!
have one tiny vein in my right arm that always cooperates when they need to draw blood. If they don't believe me, frustration awaits!
The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence recently published a 2025 AI Index Report. It revealed the different attitudes people in different parts of the world have towards AI. Asia, for example, shows way more optimism for the use of AI in most aspects of daily life.
People in countries like China (83%), Indonesia (80%), and Thailand (77%) believe that AI-powered products and services have more advantages than drawbacks. And in Canada (40%), the United States (39%), and the Netherlands (36%), folks are much more likely to perceive any AI-powered tools and services with caution.
Giant Yucatan Butter Avocado
That kind of avocado does not taste quite the same. It has a much thinner skin and a more turpentine flavor ( lemon or lime fixes it much like they fix papaya). The avocado we find in grocery stores were developed to transport easily and have a milder taste among other qualities.
Smallest Active Vessel Of The Us Navy
USS Boomin Beaver. It's a security tug, and used to deploy underwater barriers around larger vessels.
The Boomin' Beaver is a 19' tug boat and was originally designed for the commercial logging industry to herd logs in waterways, but the Navy found its rugged design well-suited for its harbor security needs.

When it comes to photography, artists and their audiences have serious concerns about the use of AI. In April 2023, the project "90 Miles" about Cuban refugees by National Geographic's photojournalist Michael C. Brown made waves online because of his use of AI.
Granted, Brown was open about using AI and even described the project as an "A.I. reportage illustration experiment." Still, people pointed out that this doesn't count as photojournalism and questioned his integrity.

Basketball Players Standing Next To Cheerleaders
Beautiful women of all heights. I love that the basketball players are also wearing heels
Some backround info on their fashion, the short blonde is wearing a crop top that belongs to the tall blonde.
The cheerleaders pictured here are probably "flyers." Smaller and lighter, they are easier to toss into the air for the aerial stunts. Guessing that the basketball players are at least 6 feet tall. The small blonde cheerleader might be a midget as midgets are 4'10" or less in height but without any type of scale this is all guesswork.

Load More Replies...I'm pretty sure that it was cut off of a regular carton... you can see the straight cut lines on the right
A while ago, before all the recent egg-related drama, I stumbled across a an egg cooker for 1 (one!) egg. Where I live, cookers for 3 or, even more so, 6 eggs are the norm. As if that wasn't absurd enough, it cost ~15€, whereas regular cheap one can be had for ~10€.

There have been controversial stories in photojournalism when photos were actually too good to be true. In 2022, American photographer Kittiya Pawlowski submitted gorgeous photographs of a snow leopard in the Himalayas. The problem? The photographs proved to be doctored after a French publication called their authenticity into question.
Urinal For Ladies
According to Snopes this was part of an art installation and not supposed to be used.
For those who want to find out more after reading this: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/urinal-for-women-photo/ 🙂
Load More Replies...Not a real thing, except as an art installation. (EDIT: Penguin is right. It IS a trough. Kind of an optical illusion. I can make the center look raised or as a valley depending on how I stare at it.) Common sense says the long part wouldn't work because any urine on that part would run off onto the floor. Plus it would be super easy to break. I have seen urinals in men's rooms that you somewhat straddle and a woman could probably use one, but not this absurdly long thing. "The photograph was authentic and it depicted a real object. However, the urinal was part of an art installation. There's no evidence of it being installed somewhere for actual use."
It's a trough so it would not run into the floor. Even if it was real
Load More Replies...I know this is an art installment, but given a choice between having a dozen of these with some small dividers to shield the user, and waiting for an hour for a stall to open up , I'd use the urinal.
Probably would be easier with skirt. And no need to sit on peed-on seats or hover...

This happened to me once! I was in my backyard doing some laundry. It was a sunny day and the sky was clear. Well, almost. There was this lone small grey cloud just passing through like it owned the place. It started to rain. While I was in the middle of retreating with laundry, the cloud had already passed, and thus the rain stopped. I felt like I was in the Looney Tunes.
🎶Why does it always rain on me? Is it because I lied when I was seventeen? Where did the blue skies go? Why does it always rain on me? Even though the sun is shining, I can't avoid the lightning. Why does it always rain on me...?🎶
Where I grew up, it would sometimes be raining on our side of the street while the other side was sunny. Honest.

At first, Pawlowski refused to address the controversy but later explained that she never claimed these photos to be undoctored. "News and media from around the world stole my images and published them with their own meaning. They did not ask me if they were edited. They interpreted them in their own way and spread them around the world. They told their followers that they were not edited. This is untrue, I always edit my images."

Some photographers dance around similar controversies by claiming that they're not "photojournalists" and are merely "storytellers." That was the excuse Michael C. Brown gave news outlets after his "90 Miles" debacle, as did photographer Steve McCurry when he got accused of using Photoshop to edit his photographs.

I guess the wasp started building while the snail was hibernating, or ... idk the word for shutting down for heat and drought ? Wasps don't just build nests on moving objects, so the snail must have been stationary for a while.
Why? the wasp just built the nest on top of the snail's house. It wouldn't hurt the snail at all, unless it stayed stationary until the whole nest was finished - then it would be too cumbersome to move for the snail. Wasps don't eat snails.

Load More Replies...I knew no silver in modern quarters but I didn't know they are clad. I thought just a mix / alloy but all one alloy. Pennies have zinc in the middle (or at least used to). One time on my ship (80s) I found a penny in the bilge that was mostly hollow. Somehow the seawater got past a bit of the cladding and over time the zinc was corroded away leaving the copper outer shell. from net - "Yes, a modern US quarter has a core made of copper. Specifically, it's a clad coin, meaning the core is pure copper and it's surrounded by layers of a cupronickel alloy (75% copper, 25% nickel). Incorrect. American pennies are all zinc with a copper plating. They cost 5.5 cents to make.

This Pile Of Excavated Fire Hydrants
Good old cast iron pipes. In Seattle, when redoing waterlines under streets, they have found old wooden pipes that were left in the ground, running parallel to the cast iron pipes. Especially in Ballard, which 100 years ago joined the rest of Seattle's water source, a mountain snow-fed reservoir, instead of peoples' backyard wells. There were still alot of trees in town, old-growth, and these made excellent pipes on straight lines.
Sally, Back in the 90s when Seattle was digging underground to make those transit tunnels, I worked for a leak repair company. One day Seattle Steam had us come fix a leaking steam valve. To get to it we had to go down into the construction tunnel. It was pretty cool. I didn't see any wooden pipes but you could see various layers of supply / drainage pipes as you went deeper into the dig tunnel. The scope of it was rather impressive.

The shells are very thick. If you can carefully blow the yolk and white out the shell can be carved. I have one from my father's uncle (or someone like that) with a horse's head hand-carved on it.
I saw them for sale in Barcelona market, but it wasn't really practical to take one home to UK so I didn't buy one. But they are gorgeous

Not uncommon for general public to farm emus, at least in rural areas. My family rescued some from a closing animal sanctuary and raised them for about 15 years. They lay a lot of eggs per clutch. You just need one for a family omelet. They are pretty thick consistency so we added milk to it. They can definitely be intimidating if you are on the same side of the fence. I got kicked in the leg once when we had to move them to a different location at one point. The ones we hand raised were plenty friendly but the og ones not so much.

Standing On Top Of A Nuclear Reactor

It's a "swimming pool reactor": "a type of nuclear reactor that has a core (consisting of the fuel elements and the control rods) immersed in an open pool usually of water. The water acts as neutron moderator, cooling agent and radiation shield. The layer of water directly above the reactor core shields the radiation so completely that operators may work above the reactor safely." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swimming_pool_reactor

Spilled A Drink And It Reflected Perfectly
Light Bulb Stayed On After Taking It Out
In case you are wondering about science things, LEDs use so little energy that there is a capacitor (fast battery) that evens out the incoming electricity before it is reduced for the LED. There is a resistor (that must be faulty) to drain the capacitor quickly when power is removed.
The issue is that the LED light source requires low voltage DC (actually a high frequency single polarity square wave for best efficiency). This is achieved with a switched mode step-down power supply circuit which at some point keeps a capacitor charged to a fairly steady DC voltage for the chopper circuitry (in the PSU side, not the LED driver - although what do I know about modern electronics?). The light will stay on until that capacitor discharges. In a low voltage high efficiency application like an LED lamp, I doubt they'd have a bleed resistor (maybe I'm wrong). Bleed resistors are useful for high voltage applications such as the HT supply for an old-fashioned CRT display: once you turn off, it soon discharges so it won't give anyone a shock on dismantling, and won't retain enough energy to set fire to anything in case of a problem which could cause a spark. Early Macintosh computers were infamous for not having HT discharge resistors. Failing to follow correct discharge procedure could fry the logic circuitry.

Nicola Mawson: it sounds like you've got lighting with proper battery backup built in (or maybe supercapictors these days, what do I know about modern technology?) It's technically very straightforward and presumably not horribly expensive.

Apparently Pilots Get Special Cups
My husband was a commercial pilot. Asked him about this, and he said that there was some incident where a pilot spilled a cup of something on the radio controls, causing them to malfunction. For a while at his airline, pilots were given cups with lids to prevent this. It didn't last long. So maybe this cup comes with a lid?
It seems it's basically because they've got lids to avoid spillage (and probably other flight-deck safety features). Explanation here: https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/55576/why-would-pilots-get-special-cups and https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/united-airlines-mileageplus/1745932-faa-violation-coffee-cups-labeled-flight-deck-use.html and https://www.ncesc.com/why-do-pilots-get-special-cups/
Because those cups come with special lids that fit only those cups that help ensure the coffee isn't going to spill in case of turbulence and fry the flight management system

Anyone know what happens to babies like this? Are they put down or allowed to live in some sort of wildlife sanctuary?
I'm sure it varies by location and animal, but I've definitely seen critters with birth defects at sanctuaries, nature centers, etc. Lots of small nature centers have turtles in ponds or tanks, so if this little guy's condition is compatible with life, it probably wouldn't be too hard to find a place for him. Or them.

The King Of Hearts Is The Only King Without A Mustache
He is also the only face card in the entire deck to be sticking a sword into his head...
the King of Spades represents King David, the King of Hearts represents Charlemagne, the King of Diamonds represents Julius Caesar, and the King of Clubs represents Alexander the Great
He actually isn't sticking a sword in his head. That's someone else's hand - his are both visible in front of him. So the real question is - who's the assassin?
King of spades is the only one looking to the right. Big deal (pun intended :) ).

One Of Our New Chickens Laid Her First Egg Yesterday And It Didn’t Have A Yolk
Wow, your chickens are driving a hard bargain.
Load More Replies...A hen laying her first egg, particularly if she's a pullet (young hen), may lay an egg without a yolk, sometimes called a "dwarf egg," "wind egg," or "fart egg". This is because her reproductive system is still developing and not fully coordinated. While it can happen in mature hens as well, it's most common in pullets.
Many years ago I got a dozen eggs which all had double yolks. The eggs were kind of torpedo shaped.

My first assumption was that it's a laser guide star used by large astronomical telescopes to correct for atmospheric distortion. My Vegan Chicken Wing Had A Wooden Bone In It
If vegans do not want to eat meat, why make something look or taste like meat?
Exactly. Went to a vegan party. All the vegetable, nut and fruit dishes were delicious. All the fake meat "food" was disgusting. No one there (vegan or non-vegan) could give a satisfactory answer as to why there was fake meat "food" at a vegan party. Anyways, gorged myself on all the delicious food and then went to In-N-Out for a double-double to top off my day. To this day, I still wonder why health conscious vegans eat that ultra-processed fake meat products.
Load More Replies...So, controversial thought: We now know that in addition to 'breathing' (O2/CO2 exchange) all plants 'scream' when cut... like the smell of fresh cut grass. Also when aphids and the like attack trees, they warn each other and other trees will produce more sap etc. Plants will litterally comminicate needs to each other and help each other out. So in essence, plants also have feelings... so, how is a salad really ethically better then real chicken in that case? Just eat the meat, your already murdering the grass, you just cant 'hear' it cuz its beyond your range
No. Feelings are beyond a plant's range because they lack any structure that could be remotely able to feel them. And, as a multitude of the amount of meat you're gonna get is used to feed the animal you're eating, eating animals would, even if only plants could suffer, make more plants suffer than eating plants. Basically, just another point for more plant, less animal, huh?
Load More Replies...the irony of being a vegan/vegetarian kills a bunch of animals in the process of growing the veggies to keep mice ,rabbits, and all sorts of critters from eating the crops not to mention the chemicals used as well
You should be aware that eating animals uses way more crops than not eating animals.

Woodlice: Woodlice are small, terrestrial isopods, meaning they live on land. They typically range in size from about 1 cm to a maximum of 15 mm. The largest woodlouse species is the common sea slater (Ligia oceanica), which lives in the intertidal zone and can grow up to 3 cm long. They breathe using gills, which is why they prefer damp, dark environments. Giant Isopod: The giant isopod (Bathynomus giganteus) is a marine crustacean, meaning it lives in the ocean. It can grow up to 1 meter (approximately 39 inches) in length. It lives in the deep sea, around 2 kilometers below the surface. It is not a woodlouse, but it belongs to the same order (Isopoda) and shares some similarities in body structure.
