The 1-10 pain scale is of course, entirely subjective, and completely useless in comparing different people's pain levels. It's only really of medical significance in emergency situations, both as a "does this person need analgesia?" but also as a measure of "is it getting better or worse". I've never really thought about my daily pain levels, but your point about new pain seeming worse means that you've put an artificial value on your own score - 10 is supposed to be the worst pain you could possibly imagine, so if you find new pain is worse than that you need to recalibrate your scale.

Most countries across Europe have similar TV licencing fees. It's not quite enforced the same way in different places though - I don't think I've ever paid the French one, but the Swiss are rigorous about it. I think it's pointing to the fact that many poor people - think "rednecks" - are avid supporters of the MAGA cult, and even before that have consistently voted for the party and policies that make healthcare more expensive and less available to them. Quite so, but how old is the story? If that law were in place then the driver has every right, indeed duty, to insist, and any passenger would have to be a complete AH to refuse to comply, knowing that they're making somebody else bear the consequences of their own pigheadedness. Then again, they've got to be pretty stupid in the first place, regardless of the law, to refuse to wear them.
