I think a bit of body shaping through diet and exercise isn't quite as hard as surgical changes women literally need in order to get into the upper ranks. Strange to me too. I live in southeast United States. The masjid I went to as a kid, the imam was a doctor. Sometimes he would be in hospital scrubs during Friday congregation. At another masjid, the imam was an airport employee. I moved to another state, and the imam was a mechanic, but still taught classes every evening. There is charity in Islam, but it's mostly voluntary. Zakat (annual tax) is only for folks with a specific amount of wealth.
