I only found out this is a thing in the US this year. Salary/hourly rate is almost always included in the ad. If it isn't, it's because there's more details elsewhere (company website /application pack). I was stunned to read that in the US you can be at the point of being offered a job before you know what they're willing to pay you. That's INSANE.

People who advocate indoor only cats are usually (not always) in the US. In the UK there are more cats who come and go as they please than there are indoor only. We do not have the same predators here.

Where I live, cat-rescue will not give you the cat if you cannot let it go out. With the exception of old, sick or traumatized cats, it is animal cruelty to trap them in a restricted space. As is cutting claws. If you don't want to let your cat out, do not have a cat.

Shelters for male domestic violence victims traditionally didn't exist because the male was either the only earner, or was the highest earner in the household. Which means, when he left the situation it wasn't difficult for him to find a place to stay. Womens shelters mostly started as a place to go because women couldn't have their own money/bank accounts and were subject to never-ending abuse or faced with life on the streets. Since a lot of countries are reliant on a patchwork of private non profit organizations for abuse survivor shelters, they play the numbers and try to serve the largest populations they can. Of which, women are still the most likely to be hospitalized or die at the hands of their domestic partners. There should be more shelters for men, I agree, but there are solid reasons for how we got here. As long as shelters remain private non profit, I don't see it changing soon.

Because when you teach boys that they can do things like bully or tease girls because they're just being boys, you are reinforcing the fact that men weld power over woman and can get away with it. However, if a boy is taught the same about women, the odds of him becoming a misogynistic villain rise wayyyy up. So no, those two things are not comparable. Just like clubs can refuse you entry for wearing trainers, and bars can refuse you entry for wearing football tops it's a simple solution for Tesco. They make a rule. No mask, no entry. Period. They offer click and collect, they offer home delivery, there is zero need for people to enter the shop without a mask. Then, they hire a few currently out of work bouncers. Lots of men and women currently not working because the UK is in lockdown and bars, restaurants and clubs are closed. Ffs... You couldn't get into a restaurant in pajamas or barefoot, you wouldn't expect to! My god there's some places you can't get into without a tie! Dress code is a thing. Enforce it.

My hubby and I only adopt FIV cats. We've two little terrors atm. We take them because very few others will. One of our previous lads was in the shelter for almost 4 years. He got 5 with us. Treated like the little Prince he was. Although it's hard to lose them sooner than a healthy cat, we take solace in the fact that the short time they have with us is filled with love and toys and the best food we can spoil them with.
