How many art history majors had to listen to their parents say, "You'll never make a career out of this!" while they were in college? Well, they probably never thought that curating a meme page based on classical art could technically be considered a career! An average art history major in the U.S. earns $62,000 a year. But what's that compared to the currency that is online clout?
On the internet, not even famous works of art are safe from being memed. But that's not a bad thing, and if you previously thought that it's a desecration of a sacred art form, you might change your opinion after you scroll through this selection of classical art memes from the "classical.art.memes" page on Instagram.

Our little old much much-loved dog has just died of a failing heart. I loved calling him my vacuum cleaner. I miss him deeply, even accepting that he is now not in any physical distress. Animals accept so much naturally without any fuss. It is something humans are not geared for. Thank you, Tyler, for being our little rock and more than we can say.
It's the psychological sketch artist, you will be judged.
Me on vacation with my family, waiting 2 hours for them to wake up. Most peaceful part of the trip 😁
I am in this particular scenario right now! It is rather peaceful, isn't it?
Load More Replies...Eric Hopper is possibly my favorite 20th century painter. I love his work.
Always happened, always, and I did the dishes from the night before, never dull or bored, sometimes hung over.. erk.. aha
Attention Simpsons writers: Please make an episode where authoritarians and bullies are all disappeared somewhere, and the world has peace and prosperity, and everybody is pretty chill.
Also that there will be a pawpaw without neurotoxins! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annonacin (on other note...)n

I would like to mention something that I doubt is purely a Danish thing but: in Denmark we have a lot of coastline. In the old times, when folktales and superstition was a normal everyday thing, it was believed by the people living near the ocean that babies came from under special, big, and/or weird looking stones on the beach. In the late 1800s old people still remembered, when they were kids and their mothers were expecting new kids, they were told that their new baby brother or -sister was waiting under a specific stone down at the beach. (I love that there are alternatives to the stork bringing new children).
I can just see mothers of many doing this.. and men without protection!! Where will that poor stork go now? Next door?
Shut up brain, shut up brain, shut up brain, let's think about a random incident that happened five years ago and what I should have said.
And then my brain randomly blasts an annoying song and I have to listen for the next couple of hours.
I have a song I play on repeat all night with a thunderstorm. It always helps me sleep.
Load More Replies...This happened to me the other night. So I sat up in bed and wrote a list in my bullet journal. I came up with 30 reasons why it s***s for me to be obese. I could have made the list longer but it was already quite depressing. 😣 I think that next time I will try to come up with 50 reasons why it would be amazing to lose weight. 😏
I am bored trying to fathom the meaning of life and why that thug punched me last night>
If anyone were interested in wooing me, just offer me a comfy couch to nap on, and I'm yours.
To BP editors, words like "medieval", "ancient", "classical" etc all mean "Before I Was Born".😂
Load More Replies...We have a shy dog that doesn’t even want you to see her, and will hide behind our legs if people try and approach her (not a rescue, just naturally that way). I’m amazed how many people announce “I’m usually good with dogs” then continue to advance, maintaining eye contact, and trying to reach her head to stroke it. The exact opposite of ‘good with animals’. If you’re wondering, the person that got it spot on (apart from the many that very sensibly just leave her alone and don’t regard it as their right to get something back from her) was a pet shop assistant that stood with her back to our dog, hands behind her back, and a treat in her hand. Our dog was happy to have that treat, and the woman made no attempt to meet her own emotional requirements from her.
A wonderful painting for man to repeat in his own attitudes to the nature of all creatures. Guilty.. to one cat's reaction, but not our super social wee dog who left us yesterday for his Valhalla.
I’m not convinced that the punishment for killing the king would have been prison. If you had a big enough army then you’d have been queen, and if not you’d have been hung, drawn, and quartered.

Load More Replies...Anne of Cleves was the one who came off the best. He divorced her early on, but had a friendly attitude towards her and paid for her support (so she didn’t have to go back where she came from, which she did not want to do.)
She’s definitely my favourite. The only stipulation for her life long support was that she didn’t remarry. I hope she had a great life.

The artists of the era painted all portraits much the same with small variations ..I think one wife smiled, maybe two...
Burne Jones? Some moralistic Victorian, expect she’d expressed an opinion.
Even then, a well-rounded lass was not always considered to be fair, yet she was desired by men in most private circumstances. This painting portrays women who were well covered, never skinny or half-starved, unless they were! Fashion is the enemy
If only I had seen this (and taken it to heart) early in life.
When online gaming with voicechat started becoming the norm, NO ONE ever believed I was female when I played games XD Everyone thought I was a 12-year-old boy because of how my voice sounded. I remember I even joined a guild/army while I was playing Battlefield 2, and I almost got kicked out because the leaders thought I lied about my age (I was 23 at the time) XD Not many females played games - especially shooter games - back then.

Because I’m past menopause, and hormones do weird things.

The Roman empire had a good number of insane emperors. America only one ... twice.
Wrong. You need to read some history. . . Andrew Jackson? Teddy Roosevelt? And there were others too.
Load More Replies...American 'empire'? I think not. An illegitimate ungrateful spawn of the British Empire? Perhaps...

Load More Replies...I want the little creature at the top left. Also, looking at the faces of those cats, I am wondering if the artist ever actually spent much time with a cat. One looks like a koala and another one looks like a goat. They DO make music and dance, though, so the artist got that part right.
There’s a gap where the cats aren’t holding hands, so it’s obvious they’ve started a conga line.
Load More Replies...You can clearly see that the cats are enjoying live music, and doing a line dance.

..two words to go on, not 'off of'. EDIT: Oops, upset my downvoting anti-education trolls again 🫢
For more context: English and formal grammar don’t always agree. ✅ In everyday English: “It’s all I have to go off of” or “I only have two words to go off of” is completely natural and very common in conversation. Most native speakers would say it that way without hesitation. ⚠️ In formal writing: Traditional grammar sticklers would prefer “to go on” instead — as in, > “I only have two words to go on.” That’s because “off of” is technically redundant (“off” already implies separation) and considered colloquial rather than standard formal usage. -- So it's fine in speech and casual writing, but otherwise not so much.
