We live in a strange version of modernity. People idolize billionaires and gush about their lifestyles on social media. Those same billionaires are preparing to leave us all behind here on our good ol’ Earth and fly off to live on Mars. Kids want to be Twitch streamers or TikTokers when they grow up. What’s the common thread between all these problems, you ask? Capitalism, of course!

The Instagram page Economic Left provides commentary and top-tier memes to rid you of some of that doom and gloom. Bored Panda reached out to the creator of the page to know more about the art of anti-capitalist memery. Check out these humorous posts and lull your anti-capitalist rage knowing we’re all in this together.

That is kind of hyperbolic. Anyone can call themselves a CEO. I go to goodwill and buy button down shirts and cut the buttons off to sell on eBay so I am a CEO of ButtonCo. I also scoop dog poop for my neighbor so I am CEO of PoopscoopCo. Lastly I sell pics of my feet while squishing them in said dog poop on onlyfans, so I am CEO of SquishypoopfootCo. also, elon musk is a war criminal.

Comedy and jokes are an entertaining and effective way to convey social and political messages. George Carlin, for example, is still equally revered and criticized for some of his politically incorrect stand-up routines. On the internet, where ideas have the potential to spread like wildfire, funny can be used for activism as well.

The author behind the "Economic Left" Instagram account agrees: “Memes are wonderful because you can actually pack an immense amount of information in them which is imparted in an incredibly short amount of time.”

No, love, this person is simply asking the rest of the world to think about why none of the other categories are being protested en masse if they visit a library, or have legislation trying to make their existence illegal, or be told that their work is inappropriate for children because they heard that sometimes that type of person's work or hobby can be adult in nature so obviously it's always adult in nature and couldn't possibly be tailored to provide age-appropriate content.

Once I see first nations people treated better and their rights restored and apologies and reparations for how north american white people destroyed their culture I will say boom but until then its meaningless.

Where that 80-100 million figure came from? I always though native population were way less than that, and hardly reach over 1 million for hunter gatherer.

Don't have the citation in front of me, but the estimated indigenous population of what we now call North America in the early 1600s is estimated to have been approximately 100 million. And as far as hunter-gatherer, what arriving Europeans actually found were settled, organized, agricultural societies. In fact, in anthropological terms, even the weird tribe is insufficient. The only term that describes these societies is nation. By the mid-1700s, the indigenous population had (intentionally) been reduced to between 10 and 20 million

The page’s creator undoubtedly chose the medium of memes for better spreadability of its message. “Humor is pivotal to the success of memes! Humor opens the door,” the page admin agrees. “Then you can begin education and community building.”

“Many groups and movements have used memes effectively to build community among like-minded individuals,” says the page’s creator. And they are right. Researchers have found that memes can influence a sense of belonging, sense of community, and attitude toward a community.

After a certain point, the very rich don't have to do ANYTHING to increase their wealth. It begins to generate itself. With the exception of Donald Trump: if he had just invested the money his daddy gave him, even in government bonds, and done absolutely nothing else, he would be much richer than he is now.

Some rich people looking down on the working class and asking why people don't just "pull them up by the bootstraps" and get more money, should definitely get big taxes. If it's so easy to earn money and get rich, that everyone can succeed if they "just try harder" and "nobody wants to work anymore" just give your money away, throw away phone numbers, connections and fancy/expensive degrees/education, and prove to the masses how easy it is. 👍 That will teach all those deadbeats using money for rent, food and probably avocado toast. /s

To accomplish....what with? The US government spent 4.9 trillion on covid. The combined wealth of ALL the US billionaires is around 4.5 trillion (most of which is tied up in stocks, and thus not able to be fully appreciated) Those "stimulus" checks, that everyone was just, so very grateful for? $3200? That works out to $1 trillion. $4.5 trillion would fund US health care for 14.5 months. Split evenly across the entire US population? One time payment of $13,000. Comparatively, "ending" homelessness would cost $20 billion a year, levied as a tax, applicable to EVERYONE, would cost $0.23 per person per day, or $83 per person per year. "Free" state university for everyone? $70 billion a year, as a tax, applied to everyone, that's $0.90 per person per day, or $328.50 per person per year. To ensure a roof and education for everyone would cost $1.13 per person, per day.....downright achievable....yet so many people put time and energy into parroting this nonsense.

Political parties are everyone's problem. They channel democracy into paths that achieve nothing, focusing on the same repeat issues for the last century. Our voices have been neutered, and our options are false hopes until we break this cycle. Campaign finance is just the tip of the iceberg here.

According to the Oxford language dictionary: "shrewd or spirited initiative and resourcefulness". Simply put, clever and tries really hard. People hate admitting they were lucky, I guess, but being in the right place at the right time is severely underrated when they explain their success after the fact.

Bezos...well come on, everyone bitching about billionaires continues to make multiple amazon orders per week, it's almost like....if you provide a service that BILLIONS of people use, you're gonna make some money. This idea that making money is the sign of immorality is being painted to make it seem like you're somehow virtuous for being mediocre. How about my uncle? Parents died in a plane crash when he was 19, drafted into Vietnam at 20, comes home to have his brother (my dad) drafted, who comes back paralyzed. While taking care of my dad, put himself through college, graduating in 2.5 years, with a 30 hour class load per week, with the highest GPA in his graduating class, becoming one of the first people in the world to obtain a degree in microprocessor engineering.

He worked 90 hours a week, even as he was dying of pancreatic cancer. Spent his money generously on family, which meant supporting about 60 people. I explained it already, but want to make sure you see the basic point. The minimum wage over there is $1400 (agriculture sector) to $2800 (non agriculture sector) per YEAR. The median salary in the country is just shy of $13,000. Different countries, have different economies,

$10k? what roles? Most of them are call centre on less than USD 260/month. Roughly 14,000 PHP. they are then further ripped off by having to do 2-4 hours unpaid OT each day as the companies won't put on enough staff so the foreign companies will keep their contracts. 1 person is hard enough on that income, add a kid or make it a family...

Remember how much the figures get skewed by the outliers. If they have 1000 workers on minimum wage and two guys on hundreds of thousands of dollars a year "heading up the overseas division" it massively drags up the average and makes it look more generous than it is.

Not necessarily. They are remote workers who live in a country where the dollar is stronger than their home currency. They make less USD, but live well in their home country. If I worked my current job remotely from Mexico, I would live like the upper class do there making a normal person's salary here. If I made half of what I do, I would still live the same quality of life I do in the U.S., but in Mexico.

This is a fair point. If one is only focusing on the dollar amount of what someone earns in the US compared to another doing the exact same work in a country with a significantly weaker currency, it’s easy to get outraged and shout about sweatshops. My family spent a year in Mexico for my dad’s job. He continued to be paid in £sterling, which allowed a living wage in the UK, not poor but certainly not well off. In Mexico, it converted to over $1M pesos a year, and he was earning equivalent to the highest paid executives at the company. We should really look at comparing lifestyle and purchase power to determine if people are being exploited. Nonetheless, I do think that remote workers should get benefits tailored to their needs and countries.

I heard a discussion on the radio about the horrific rental market -- low supply, high rents -- and the 'expert' said that one of the answers was that there was a housing shortage and we needed to build more houses for rental. If so many rich people have vacation houses and so many people have properties to Air BnB, there is no shortage; there is only a problem with distribution. Also, he said that one reason for the high rents was landlords needed to compensate for increasing mortgage rates. So, in other words, the landlords profiting off of their tenants do not even own product they are overselling to their customers. So, maybe that is another thing to question.

Exactly. Even outside of the air BnB and holiday property market there are 600,000 properties in the UK that are empty for one reason or another. Yet there is building on green belts and insufficient urban regeneration because it's more expensive. Landlords shouldn't be making their renters pay their mortgage either - renting needs caps and if their mortgage goes above it, tough.

Whilst it seems like a good idea for house prices to fall, it would be a disaster for the economy. A drop of more than a few percentage points is enough to drive a recession. People seem to think that it would be a good thing if prices fell by tens of percentage points, whereas the reality is that this would tank the economy and cause hyperinflation. This would destabilise the world economy and the dollar would cease to be valued as a major currency.

I literally almost got killed once because my mother couldn't leave work on time even a single night. In January 1987, I commuted by bicycle to my M-F 6 AM shift at Burger King. I bought a car, it was registered and ready to pick up from the dealer, but I had no way to get there. My car sat on the lot for at least a week because Mom (then a manager at AT&T) couldn't leave work in time to pick me up and get to the dealer before closing. One morning I was riding my bike on the shoulder of NJ 15, in the dark and snow, when a car pulled onto the shoulder, hit me, and got back onto the highway. My bike was mangled, I was 20 minutes late to work, and I couldn't walk right for a month. I believe that, if you can't afford both the time and the money to raise children, you shouldn't have them; but then having children has never made sense to me

I’m quite certain the kids won’t have any idea, not tonight and not two decades down the line, they would have been too busy in their room on their device to notice. ‘The only people’ would in fact be the spouse, they’ll be able to recall the absence of the other parent from 20 years before.

youre certain but you are incredibly wrong. that must be a weird sensation... I remember all the days my father worked late. He didn't get to see my wizard of oz play in 3rd grade, or my color day race win. He also didn't see most of my violin playing in orchestra. I didnt blame him as I knew he had to work but I still noticed and its been 30+ years and still remember.. I just messaged a few friends and asked if they remembered and all but one said they did. the one who didnt hasnt replied yet. Your certainty should be updated to being uncertain.

There was a murder in a big, well known store, in my city. A man stabbed 3 random people with a knife taken from the stores displays. This is not USA, so it was a big story. After a few weeks, the first time I felt comfortable being back I heard a staff asking another one if they had a knife. (It was close to the storage, so I guess they worked with boxes or something) But the other worker answerd by giving him the knife and follow it with "good thing I'm not a customer". And had a big laught about it. I felt so ill that I wrote to the head honcho of the company about what I've heard, what shift and so on. I also hinted that I could have just get in touch with him or the newspapers. A land spanning newsstory like that would put every store of theirs on blast. The CEO was on vacation but then sent a heartfelt apologising mail that he would talk to the staff and really lay it into them.... So vacations for bosses are good/healty, but I could have brought a big company many hatches.

Our local credit union makes people who want an account with them agree to a hard credit check, then blocks them from getting any kind of account if they don't pass. Really sad because it means a ton of people who would really benefit from one of their no fee accounts are left out in the cold *and* have another ding against their credit rating from a check that did nothing.

I'm 100% behind the stupidity of banks for doing this. Just because they don't have a mechanism in place to STOP the transaction from taking more money from THEM in time, they punish the individual. The individual puts funds into the account; they are not the one holding the funds and allowing the funds to leave their grasp; the bank is. It's the bank's fault that more money went out then what that individual left with them. The bank could have a mechanism setup to where the transaction would simply be declined with no money leaving. This makes no real life sense when you place this situation in its proper place. Imagine you give me $5 to hold on to. You see something you want to buy for $8, you call me, tell me to buy it for you, and I do...and spend $3 of my own money simply because I didn't remember that only $5 in my wallet were yours. Imagine I bill you $35 plus the $3 I spent instead of telling you, "You only gave me $5. This costs $8. I can't buy it for you with your money."

. Once when many of us workers were laid off.. I used up all my money in the bank to pay off current bills to live... when I finally got my first unemployment check after about six weeks, I went to start a new bank account.. the bank wanted me to deposit it all. I threw a fit because the unemployment checks were made out by the government.. and I needed to pay new bills.

Maybe because to justify that belief, you keep pointing out "McDonalds in Denmark pays $22/hr" while also talking up the maternity leave, health care, education and paid time off....but make no mention of the fact that they're also handing 35ish % of that income over to the government....because that's how you afford those social programs. In a country with a higher cost of living than the US. Meanwhile, millions of skilled labor jobs have been unfilled for decades, all of which pay you while you train, start in excess of $20/hr and cap out somewhere around $70/hr but no, no keep fighting for menial jobs killing the planet and the nations health.

They distract us because they're not even trying to govern. I am and have been "awake" for many years. There are many systemic injustices in American society including but not limited to wide spread racism, such as not giving fair wages and time off to the working poor, wide spread hunger even among children , ....homelessness, stigmas around mental illness.. and more.

So a whole bunch of people who COULD NOT AFFORD TO OWN A HOME, were given loans......which they defaulted on.....and then all those defaulted homes were bought up by corporations and VC funds, prices jacked up obscenely and now no one can afford a home.

When I knew Bouche was coming, I ordered everything I needed for a kitten. Bowls, box, tree, toys, you name it. Running low on money, I was looking for a multi-toy package. They had quite a few in the $10-$20 price range. Each had a tunnel and a wand toy, as well as a bunch of little toys to bat under the sofa. Most of the packages came with this ugly rubber fish that I definitely didn't want. The pretty rainbow package did not, so that's the one I bought. I didn't realize until it came, and one of the mice had on a gay pride t-shirt. Bouche didn't care. She (and Audi) is an equal opportunity mousie murderer.

If you don’t know about the band or their art work, why TF are you commenting. That is what gets me about these posts often…. the audacity of people to constantly have non-informed opinions and instead ASSUME.

Some of them have been prepared their entire lives to focus on just what it takes to keep the family businesses alive and successful and nothing more. They live a very linear life and cannot do half of what a normal person can because they simply aren't well rounded; they will never have to be well rounded, only successful at what they do. This is why they seem so useless to the public. They have no marketable skills for many areas; they have specific skills that only pertain to their business world.

A whole generation should not be penalized for what "some" are doing.... When I was young I was a war protester in the 60's and worked in Human Services for 30 years to try and make some part of the world a better place. I did not make much money working in shelters etc and now live in subsidized housing. ..for the elderly.

The Federal Government is backing student loans, not the Republican party. The Federal Government will tie young people to debt until they die, not a party. To think one party has that much power is to not understand politics. Republicans and Democrats both make money off one another and for one another. It's in both of their interests to keep the government exactly like it is. They both sure as hell work together to make sure no Independent holds authority.

Recently read an article where the democrats are seeking to legally shut down a political party because it might dilute voting, causing the Republican Party to win. This is what you’re fighting against. A government structure that only supports two parties. Neither of which has your best interests at heart.

Heh, you need to point out that most Americans think communism and socialism are the same thing. And, having demonstrably failed to even understand what these concepts mean, assume they must also be bad, because absurd degree of faith in capitalism being flawless.

America is so divided right now... and our rich politicians do not seem to know how hard it is for the average person to make ends meet. Our taxes should go to helping out the everyday person. Many other countries have cheaper health care and they are not called communist...There is a lot of name calling and a lot of people do not seem to understand what communism or socialism is for real.

Care is the word you're looking for. The rich politicians know perfectly well how hard it is, they just don't care.

The main problem seems to be that US Americans don't have easy means to experience other lifestyles. The education system does not teach how other countries are managed, the US is too big to reach another country easily, it is very expensive to go exploring elsewhere, people do not get enough off-time to do so - the combination of this discourages going to check other cultures. No iron curtain or walls necessary. The one big advantage of Europe is the ease of experiencing different countries. Contacts with clients, customers and companies across the border is just a part of everyday life of many people. This results in more openness and acceptance of new ideas. "I saw it worked in Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, ... so why not try it here?" - is very often the beginning of implementing a good idea, and most of the several political parties our governments have, will give it a try. For the US this kind of natural adoption of new ideas is difficult, also due to the two-party system

Basically there are two kinds of people: those who worry about the ones left behind, and those who worry some will get more than they're entitled to. So if you get all riled up that some who can work, don't, you're right wing, and if you protest that some who can't work, die, you're left wing. Right? If all of society shifts to the right, as seems to have happened not only in the US, basic human decency appears to be left-wing socialism. It's not, though - ask Jesus.

Good people aren’t incentivized to go into politics because it’s such a nasty dangerous game these days. Who in their right mind would want to risk their life and the lives of their families? Which maybe explains why a lot of wingnuts are in office.

If a French politician even thinks about raising the retirement age, the French take it to the streets and raise holy hell. American politicians make it harder for low income families to get assistance, want them to work til they drop dead allow employers to steal employees wages, and fight against free lunches for school children and one half of the country cheers them and the other half just shrugs it off.

If this is okay, then next time anything you buy fails your expectations, don't yell at the poor employers of the customer service. Go demonstrate at the home of the local representative of that shop or company and frighten their family. Or the grades of your child are too low? Go get a mob and visit the teachers at home. If this is acceptable for politics, then it is acceptable for everything else that disappoints.

Yeah....has nothing to with the fact that even making minimum wage you're still handing 25% of your income to the government. Compare that to the US where if you make 72,000 a year, you're only handing over 22%. We know exactly how all the places with UHC, a month of paid vacation, "free" university and months or years of maternity leave make it work. EVERYONE, pays a significant amount of tax as a baseline, and that share increases as you earn more. That's the whole f*****g game. All those things are subsidized with taxes. They are not "free" they will never be free, they will never be covered by only taxing the rich, and until everyone accepts the fact that everyone will have to contribute to funding those programs, they will never, ever, ever, ever materialize in the U.S.

Boomer here, spent alot of years working for minimum wage, when it was below $2 all the way to $7.25 . Got good at check floating, bill rotating, bean cooking. So don't blame boomers for all this nonsense. Most of us were in the same boat. Never expected to get rich, just wanted a decent life.

yeah its all the poor "boomers" fault? .... or in case you have not noticed..Why blame it on a whole generation ... not all of us older folks were born with a silver spoon in our mouth. as far as college goes ..."that was an american myth that one would graduate and instantly have a great job just because they finished college" . It really seems to me that what they forgot to tell us was that unless we went to an Ivy League College,, we would not get those great jobs right away.... if ever.

That's the result of income inequality. The result of corporations putting profit before profit sharing. Th result of considering employees "controllable costs" instead of valued assets. Side note - my first house, 1981 had a 13.25% mortgage...interest on a new car was 21% or higher. I was on the tail-end of the boomers, and we felt it too. And no, I do not crazy college debt, because I knew I couldn't afford college and would have to make due w/ a diploma. That's been no bed of roses either, but there is no one trying to get me compensation for 40 yrs of low income jobs either.

The predicted cost of a single, 120mph line from Boston, to DC, is estimated to cost $1.5 trillion. Another from NY to philidelphia, which is 100 miles, was estimated to cost $500 billion. The US, is huge, with most places that would benefit from HSR densely populated. Which means....people are going to be displaced, right? So which people, i wonder are going to be displaced....hmm....could it maybe be....the poor ones? The ones already living in low value properties near industrial zones? I wonder if that's going to cause any kind of outrage. Nah, that never happens. Americans are always reasonable people that understand the intricacies of these situations.

What is 1 billion dollars? 1,000 briefcases each filled with 1 million dollars each. What can you do with 1 billion dollars? Give it to a bank that'll give you 4% back in interest each year which equals 40 million dollars per year for doing absolutely nothing. Billionaires and millionaires should not exist

I would like to cap net worth at $100 million (inflation adjusted in the future). That's enough money for a small person to earn 7 or 8 million a year in interest and still inflation adjust the principal. In other words, you could spend more than an average person makes in a lifetime each year and still not lose any money. And if you have 10 kids, when you die it will be enough for all of them to be set for life. If anyone wants more than that, they are a horrible person. My plan is to tax 100% of current holdings and earnings over that amount and use the money to pay down the national debt. Then pass a balanced budget amendment, reform the supreme Court, and institute single payer national healthcare. All I need is to convince a billionaire to bankroll my campaign and I'll start running!

Same over here in Switzerland. Everything's getting more and more expensive, but the wages do not get adjusted adequately to the inflation. At the same time, you read about the huge profits these big companies make, and it makes you (the small citizen) feel like such a butt-monkey. And when people won't have any more money to buy things other than groceries/pay their rent and such basic things, the economists will all make the surprised Pikachu face when the consumption rate plummets...

Meanwhile in romania, the standard gas price is $1.70 per LITER ($6.52 per gallon), during the last gas crisis it went up to $3.40...again, per LITER ($13.05 per gallon) in a country in which the take home pay for a minimum wage job is about $450 per month. But please, lets hear you whine more about paying $4 a gallon as you hop in you car to travel distances of less than a mile.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that corporations are pushing this narrative. I don't understand how people cannot understand that corporations only create carbon emissions by selling to people. and if people didn't buy/consume/waste so much... If you believe your actions have no impact, and keep on buying things with no guilt because it's all the corporations fault, .... the corporations have won.

No, you ignorant f*cking mouth breathing idiots. I'm so tired of seeing this outright bull$hit being peddled by people who didn't read anything beyond the headline. That single study, arrived at that number by attributing all the downstream emissions to the corporation. What does that mean? Well, it looked at all the emissions generated by burning fossil fuels, and attributed them to the company extracting them. 29% of ALL F*CKING EMISSIONS IN THE US ARE GENERATED FROM INDIVIDUALS DRIVING THEIR CARS, which is what makes up almost all of fossil fuel emissions. Corporations exist to make money, they continue to exist....because YOU give them your money. You don't get to pretend that you are blameless simply because someone else manufactured the means of your environmental destruction. If everyone stopped buying stuff that comes in plastic bottles, everything would go back to glass in a matter of weeks. During the pandemic, the price of a barrel of oil went NEGATIVE. STFU with this BS

But even if Dems did NOTHING, it would still be better than cutting environmental protections, cutting women's reproductive rights, cutting LGBT+ rights, tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy, attempts to cut the insufficient health care we have... Have you ever considered the fact that the inflated wealth statistic is due to the fact that he own 10.4% of stock in the company worth $1.2 trillion? Have you considered the fact that the company is only worth that much because hundreds of million make use of their services? Or that the US makes up 80% of their customer base? Have you considered the fact that if people stopped buying things from them.....bezos would no longer be worth 130 billion? It's not even a theory, during the pandemic Amazon was valued at over $2 trillion, and bezos was worth 230 billion. It's....it's almost like.....consumers....are creating the thing they endless complain about. Funny that.

Ever notice that companies treat their employees like spoiled children? "For this good employee, who has worked so hard this week. I'm giving them an extra $5. Now, it will appear on your next pay cheque. That means it will be taxed. But better than nothing, eh?" Other employees: "Don't you think we should deserve more, and to other people who worked their asses off all year?" "Well... the company can't really afford to give any more money than that. Plus our shareholders don't want to see any more money spent on production staff. So.... But I mean, if we get in more sales and increase the profits for the company then maybeee.... we'll look into doing something small..." Oo

My head explodes whenever I think of all that money that could help so many people and “they” would never even miss it!! And it just sits there! While people are starving and suffering and dying. How could you not help, knowing what goes on in the world!?! What else can we call this except evil?!

And most of them use that money to make better for those poor people with clean water projects, medication, solar power etc. Now do rapartists with million dollar estates that spend their money on blood diamonds.

Actually Kim is right. The owner oversees operations, invests in advertising and new equipment, deals with performance issues, negotiates with suppliers, repairs and maintains the business and sets the overall strategy on the product and how it should evolve. Leave all of that to a workers committee and 95% likely the restaurant will fail. Am amazed that a business owner actually sharing the profits with workers is being shat on...some of you need to come back to reality.

I'm always tickled by the people who can barely manage to manage their own existence, thinking they have any modicum of understanding on what it takes to run a business, or this notion that you, the person who took ALL THE RISK, in obtaining loans, paying real estate, buying equipment, handling hiring, back round checks, payroll, taxes, utilities, inspections, suppliers, scheduling, advertising and marketing, somehow deserve NOTHING against the people that show up after the fact and simply do WHAT THEY'RE TOLD. You think it's all so easy, do it yourself. Let everyone know how it works out.

Even if we assume that it IS human nature, just because something is natural doesn't necessarily mean it's good. We do plenty of things that are unnatural. Using the internet, for example. Or living in houses. Eating crops. Going to space. Y'know what's natural? Ebola.

It was never a secret that Intel was planning to cut jobs, or that it has shareholders. I wouldn't be surprised if the layoffs were a prerequisite to the subsidies. Pandemic scarcity and fear of China are pushing governments to near-shore their semiconductor industries. Chips are a cyclical business and Intel will re-hire soon.

Simply Google the mayor of high rate homeless cities and see which political party they are. You will see with your own eyes and learn with your own mind that Democrat-lead cities are more guilty of this level of widespread homelessness: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, New York, even Nashville. When Democrats hold the majority power in the nation (Senate and Presidency) and the cities they run are STILL like this, it's time to stop blaming Republicans because simply it's the "in thing" to say and do. It's time to put blame and pressure to where it's due: the crooked politicians who allow for this to happen. Ignore the party bickering and go after the source.

Musk sold his first company Zip2 and made 170 million off the sale, his next company was Paypal....the sale of which netted him billions. Explain where the unethical behavior is there. See, all the big billionaires, like Musk, Gates, Bezos and Zuck......don't actually have 100's or even 10's of billions sitting in the bank. What they have, is STOCK. In companies that are hundreds of billions or trillions of dollars. Bezos owns 10.5% of Amazon stock, when Amazon's market share hit $1 trillion, he was worth around $120 billion. When it hit TWO trillion, his "wealth" was reported as $230 billion. When Amazons lost nearly 1 trillion of "worth" earlier this year.....his "wealth" dropped to $130 billion. You want to become a billionaire? Found a company, provide products or services that attract hundreds of millions of customers....take the company public and retain a sizable amount of the stock price. It's not hard to understand, that so many don't kind of explains the underlying issue

Generally, the left wing is characterized by an emphasis on "ideas such as freedom, equality, fraternity, rights, progress, reform and internationalism" while the right wing is characterized by an emphasis on "notions such as authority, hierarchy, order, duty, tradition, reaction and nationalisn".

Remember folks, the economic boom-bust cycle in a capitalist economic system is a FEATURE not a bug.

I'm in my 50's and I can honestly say that this complete BS. In fact, the older I get, the more I hate the right and everything it stands for. It doesn't take much brain power to see how hateful and racist the right is. How their economic policies have hurt not only myself, but my kids and even the idiots that continue to support them. I respect a persons right to choose conservative political and social values. But I do not respect or condone tyrants and greedy, selfish people. That is what the conservatives of today are. And what the Republican Party is now, needs to be eliminated and disbanded. They are treacherous and threat to freedom and decency. Their leaders need to be jailed. I would say that the Republican Party is the biggest threat to the US today.

I'm in my 50s too. I started off as a classic Massachusetts liberal, and have progressively leaned more and more left and I've gotten older. The reason Boomers say this is that they were able to build wealth over their lives. GenX and younger never were. I've pretty much always been working poor, so I have no sympathy at all for the wealthy.

People don't become more conservative as they age - marginalized people, usually more left-wing, have a greater chance of dying.

Well, when I was younger I was trying to sound cool and did NOT know what it meant, so I told my teacher I was a "militant conservative republican." she was just like....okayy? Fast forward about 9 years and I am just about as liberal as you can possibly get lol.

The top 1% of earners in the US account for 40% of collected taxes, the top 10% account for 70%. Last year, the bottom 52% of earners accounted for 0%. Meanwhile, Elon paid $11 billion in taxes, and no you don't get to look at the "wealth" statistics to argue about how much they should pay, as the MAJORITY of that is based on STOCK. Yes, "the rich" should pay higher taxes....but so should EVERYONE ELSE. In fact, that's the reason the all the socialist utopia's (of which i've lived in one for over a decade) can afford UHC, "free" university, months or years of maternity leave, a month of paid vacation, cheap predictable public transit and infrastructure that isn't crumbling. EVERYONE hands over 30-60% of their gross income so as to subsidize all those social programs. Ending homelessness and making public universities "free" would only require that EVERYONE pay $412 a year more in taxes. $1.13 per person, per day. How about everyone fixate on that.

Yeah, keep banging that drum. Every attempt at communism has resulted in the same exact thing, and each and every time it starts again, it's with someone telling themselves "it'll be different this time....because we really "get it" now. The reason it always failed before is because they didn't have ME to steer the ship" Socialism, and communism are not the same thing. Socialism, alive and kicking throughout Europe. They're called Socialist democracies. Communism? China, Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, and North Korea. How are things working out for those four countries? What about all the ones that were violently overthrown on account of communism being a dumpster fire of corruption?

This is what I think of, too. Except it's more like $14.15, and going up to $15 next month, because the government says so.

And if the government didn’t “say so”, they would pay you less. The government *should be* “saying so” as it’s the government’s responsibility to represent The People not The Corporations

And on your way out, a government official in a suit demands 1/4 of it because it happened on soil that he claims to own, but they did nothing to help you earn it. (1/4 you'll never get back if you're married with no children.)

Now imagine my friend who will take about $1.50 of that from you and give me a dollar of the $1.50 because I am a job creator. Because this is actually how it works.

Giorgia Meloni has been prime minister of Italy since 2022, and she's leader of the Brothers of Italy Party, a nationalist conservative and right-wing populist political party. So a political soul mate of Mussolini -but- a woman. That's woke.
