This is incredibly common. Everyone does this, actually. Intrusive thoughts. I tend to think “how much can I key this car”.

My girlfriend does this a lot. I end up answering her and she just replies "nobody is talking to you, talking to myself. mind your own business." LOL

Cupboard doors need to be closed when not in use. It's not that I won't necessarily be able to sleep, it's just why would they be open?

I have to stop the microwave 1 second before it stops so it wont do the annoying beeps at the end

As someone who grew up in the city centre, I understand this one. I can't stand complete silence, I need to hear the movement and the life from outside.

I feel the same way. Like people don't understand how loud silence is to some people like I always complain about silence being to loud and everyone gets so confused about it. I always have to have music or something playing in the background and people find it so weird.

I have this problem, too. I have very sensitive hearing (my job actually involves picking up on sounds no one else can hear). I occasionally have to sit in sound-proof rooms for work - The silence in deafening!

I have tinnitus so silence is horrible to me, i have a white noise box in my room otherwise i probably would have killed myself by now.

Like mornings after a snow storm, the silence is deafening!! I kinda love it.

Oh my god yes when it's too silent it's way too loud and I focus on the smallest most unnoticeable sound and it suddenly becomes 30 times louder, like my mom's breathing across the hall in her room

It could be tinnitus. I don't know what 'silence' is there's too much 'background noise in my head.

I did this after my son died. I hated the total silence in the house.

I have severe tinnitus so there is no such thing as silence (I would pay a lot of money to have actual silence). As a result I HAVE to have background noise.

I remember the first time I realized that complete silence is uncomfortably “loud.” I was about 6 yrs old and sleeping over at my cousins’ house. I was lying in bed awake when I became aware of the noisy silence. I started crying because it triggered my anxiety and I desperately wanted to go home. You see, at my parents house, it was quiet, but I would also hear the faint & lovely sounds of distant trains throughout the night. The silence at my cousins’ house was almost deafening.

When I first moved to the country it killed me. Where were the cars constantly passing, the distant trains, the radios, strangers walking by window laughing. I could not sleep for weeks well. My mind fills in the noise creating her own.

That's exactly why I need music to sleep

I have a worse one- when the only thing I can hear is the clock ticking. Drives me insane.

Can hear too much when its dead silent...

The noise is coming from your brain. Tell it to shut up or start spewing positivity. Negative brain noise can destroy you. Trust me. It keeps going and never stops unless you put the breaks on it and put it into reverse.

I get it that is why I always have something on in the house

this is like driving with loud music, but then turning the volume down to look for parking or for an address.

When I was 4 in Florida we had no A/C in our house. I had 6 spots on my pillow that I could move my head around on until I had to flip it & have 6 more.
