In 2024, the world was home to roughly 8.06 billion people: 4.09 billion men and 4.05 billion women. And, even though nearly half the planet is female, countless men still remain completely unaware of what it’s like to be a woman. From everyday experiences to bigger struggles, this lack of understanding isn’t just baffling, it’s exhausting, frustrating, and sometimes deeply unfair.

The subreddit “Not How Girls Work” exposes this in stark detail, and we’ve gathered some of the most absurd, misguided, and telling examples of what men have said about women directly from its threads. The posts range from irritating misconceptions to outright harmful attitudes, highlighting how far some people are from truly understanding women’s lives. It’s infuriating, yes, but also a reminder of why awareness, empathy, and honest conversations about gender are more important than ever.

It's the old "She says No, but she means Yes" absurdity. As I advised my students, the kind of person who says "No" when they mean "Yes" always turns out to be someone you didn't actually want a "Yes" from anyway.

Legally, no means no. It means NO without any ifs, buts or whatever. Should you find yourself in the position where you think someone is "playing hard to get": Firstly; that does not mean that their no changes anything. It is still NO. Secondly; do you really want to become involved with someone who plays games with your emotions?

You're gonna get mad at this, y'all, but I'm gonna say it: teach your kids not to be coy if they ARE interested! So many times back in the day I saw and experienced this "hard to get" b******t and it's still going on today!

The difference is is if the girl if playing hard to get, and at the first no the boy stops trying, the girl is not hurt in any way, just a bit surprised. After a few experiences like that, she'll learn that it's a silly game, and will start to say what she means. But if the boy is not taking a no as a no, the girl is hurt, either emotionally, mentally, or physically. That said, yes, hard to get is just as outdated as chasing someone who said no. And yes, all kids should grow up learning to respect themselves, each other, and to communicate clearly and accept each other's answers at face value, instead of playing stupid games so they can win stupid prizes.

part of the issue is how relationships are portrayed in media. every "romcom" that came out from the 80s to 2010s involved a pretty woman denying the advances of a man and him eventually winning them over. it became ingrained in whole generations of people, men and women alike, that that is what it should be. its the guys who keep pestering and trying to win someone over, its the women who say things like "i ghosted him and blocked him but he didnt even try to talk to me what a loser" its unhealthy. its damaging. and luckily that trope has subsided some, but its still on the parents to teach their kids that those are NOT healthy relationships, or even rational decisions in the movies they watch. look at any john hughes movie as an example.

Misogyny isn’t something you learn in school or college, and yet, here we are in 2025, seeing it surface in all sorts of places. So where does it come from? Often, it’s the small things people absorb every day: offhand remarks, jokes that put women down, or even the way it’s portrayed online. Actions in real life matter too.

For instance, when a father mistreats his wife in front of his son, it’s not just the woman who suffers; that boy is quietly learning that this behavior is acceptable. These lessons, subtle as they may seem, add up over time, shaping attitudes before anyone ever sits down for a formal “lesson” in respect or empathy. IIn many ways, the daily environment becomes the classroom, and sadly, misogyny might appear as an early lesson.

It was written by men to control women and men alike by making them believe they have to act and live only a certain way. Alot of the masoginy was created by these stories because of the way they were written I'd imagine. It has been surmised from discoveries of neanderthals that the women used to be equal to men if not greater. They were all just surviving together on equal terms. Most Religions and their writings (not just Christianity) lean toward men being superior. Misogyny was born from religion.

God did not create woman to be submissive to man. The Bible calls Eve a compliment and a helper to Adam. So they. were be a compliment of each other. That is the way it should be today. Unfortunately being in imperfect state, men mistreat woman today.

So growing up, we're told that bully's are bully's because they are basically afraid of what they don't know/understand, so they lash out. Maybe that's why men are so misogynistic, they're afraid of us!

i know youre saying this as a joke but i think you are actually spot on. in my experience the most misogynistic men are the ones who cant even order food at mcdonalds from a female cashier without sweating and having a nervous breakdown. they then go home and rage at what they believe was "another vapid stacy" that wouldnt give them the time of day, when in reality they are trying to alleviate their embarrassment by diverting it into anger. misogyny is a symptom of toxic masculinity.

If anyone cared to actually read the book of Genesis, God created women to be by his side as a "helper" for him, so he wouldn't be alone, not made to be under his thumb. I really wish people would learn to read. It was Paul who started the routine of women being subservient. He has a lot to answer for. LOL!

Not all religion. Maybe most of it, and definitely organized religion, but religion is not inherently bad. It gives people a way to connect with their surroundings, nature, and their community more effectively, and might give someone a sense of purpose or comfort. All I need to do to cheer myself up is look at the trees, or the moon, or the sun, and I feel better. I wouldnt call that evil.

so...um here's the thing. Mammals have hair. This includes both male and female mammals. Humans are mammals. Hence...hair. Women have hair everywhere. It's softer in some places and fine/light so it's not noticeable unless you're really up close, but it is there. The illusion that women are hairless or should be in all areas except hair and eyebrows is a perpetuated misconception to normalize removal of body hair.

Most men don't age like fine wine either. If you're 40 or over: take a look on Facebook at how your old classmates look like now, or Google the actors you were into when you were in your 20s. 90% of them look way less attractive now, it's only a small percentage that looks better or equally good.

Unfortunately, in today’s digital world, misogyny is spreading faster than ever online. Social media, forums, and even comment sections can become breeding grounds for harmful ideas about gender. According to a UN Women report, online content frequently fuels backlash against feminism while reinforcing outdated and limiting notions of what men and women “should” do. These messages don’t just stay online, they shape attitudes, influence behavior, and normalize disrespect over time. Repeated exposure to such content can make biased ideas seem acceptable, even to those who wouldn’t consciously endorse them.

This is so very far off of any reasonability, it's ... too much to just result from lack of performance of the brain. What he doesn't know is that the man contributes significantly less than half of the overall DNA of the child. The mother contributes all the mitochondrial DNA in addition to her ~50% of the regular DNA.

I personally knew a guy who honestly believed - even after being married to a woman and having a daughter - that women don't have bowels, therefore can't pass gas or defecate. You know, because they are so delicate and ladylike. So yeah, a few guys are incredibly far from reality.

It bugs me. No woman in media has ever suggested or implied, let alone plainly stated they have any control over their period whatsoever. It's the exact opposite, in fact. So many stories of women who got it today, early or late, or just not when she thought it would show up. There are no stories where it works like urine. Real women talk about it like it's weather, somewhat unpredictable. How do these men get these idea? IT has to be other men, because nothing about how women move through society would suggest this.

Building on these findings, studies exploring misogynistic content online have used a variety of terms to describe it, including “gender cyber hatred,” “cyber harassment,” “gender trolling,” “e-bile,” and “gender hate speech.” Each term captures a slightly different aspect of how hostility toward women and girls manifests in digital spaces, from targeted harassment to more subtle forms of online mistreatment.

Researchers use these distinctions to better understand patterns, impacts, and the ways in which misogyny spreads. By labeling and analyzing these behaviors, it becomes easier to highlight the real-world consequences of what might otherwise seem like “just words on a screen.” Over time, these studies have revealed the pervasive nature of online misogyny and its influence on social attitudes, online culture, and even offline interactions.

So my friend who did not want to get pregnant decided never to buy more than she really needed that month, out of superstition.

Reality Time. Before ~1900 women didn't regularly shave anything. The Gillette razor company had cornered the market on men's razors, so they started advertising to women that they could shave their legs and other bits, creating the idea that women should. Prior to this, women weren't shaving anything regularly. Some wedding traditions had the bride AND groom shave off all their body hair for the wedding night, outside of that, no, women didn't really shave until men wanted to make money off it.

I guess I'm not a real woman XD I prefer large-breed dogs. My heart-dog was a German Shepherd (German working lines) named Ember - she weighed 90 lbs. My two current dogs are a Belgian Malinois from working lines (70 lb) and a German Shepherd/Kuchi Dog (livestock guardian breed) mix - he is 65lbs but would probably weigh well over 120lbs (his mom weighed 100lbs) - but he got infected with distemper (before I brought him home) and it affected his muscle tone, so he is less muscled than he should be XD Oh, I also dislike human babies/children - much prefer cats (I've got 6) and dogs. I guess I'm extra not a real women since I've never wanted babies/children XD

He's handy because he is easy to pick up and stick under my arm if I need to get over styles, walls and fences. I also like to explore abandoned houses and he easily fits through windows with me. He is very well trained because the size of a dog has absolutely nothing to do with the way they are trained. I wonder what the person who posted the above meant by discipline??

These online attacks are not harmless: they can have real psychological and social effects on the targets. Women and girls subjected to repeated harassment or demeaning comments may experience stress, anxiety, and even fear when engaging online. Beyond the personal impact, these behaviors can silence voices, discourage participation in digital spaces, and reinforce a culture where misogynistic attitudes go unchallenged. When hostility becomes normalized, it not only affects individuals but also shapes the broader online environment, making it more difficult to foster respectful, inclusive conversations.

Hey, for many many generations, the women had NO rights whatsoever. Couldn't marry if she wanted to be a teacher, as a woman, she couldn't vote, couldn't keep anything from her marriage if she chose to leave it, or even if he chose to leave it. He could carry on normally, but she would be shunned for life as a discarded woman. If she had children, they belonged to the husband, etc. etc. Some feminists today just don't realize how far we've come from those days. It wasnt that long ago! (however, we were SO subjugated, that there's still quite a way to go to attain true equality).

It really doesn't matter at all if it breaks some vestigial tissue that serves no purpose at that point. (The original purpose, if any, is unknown; some theorize that it's there to keep fecal matter out in infanthood).

Thankfully, people online often call out misogyny for what it is, holding outdated or harmful views accountable. There are some clear signs to watch for, especially when men react negatively to a woman’s achievements. For instance, if she shares a professional milestone and the comments focus more on belittling her than celebrating her, that’s a big red flag.

Misogynistic attitudes often come through in ways that suggest women “shouldn’t” be successful, ambitious, or recognized. Sometimes it’s subtle: a dismissive joke, a snide remark, or a comment undermining her confidence. Other times, it’s more blatant, questioning her worth or abilities outright. Seeing these patterns helps us recognize the problem instead of normalizing it. The more we notice it, the easier it becomes to call it out.

Another common sign of online misogyny is when men comment on what a woman wears. If someone posts a picture and the responses focus more on her clothing, appearance, or body than on the content of her post, that’s a warning sign. Sometimes it’s subtle, “nice outfit” turned into a backhanded compliment or unnecessary critique.

Other times, it’s more aggressive, trying to shame or control what she chooses to wear. These comments often reveal an underlying belief that women’s value lies in their looks rather than their ideas or accomplishments. Over time, repeated remarks like this can chip away at confidence and create a toxic environment. It’s not just about one-off comments, it’s about seeing the consistent ways women are judged differently.

Another way misogyny shows up online is when women’s opinions are dismissed or invalidated. If a woman shares her thoughts on a topic and the comments immediately question her intelligence, “fact-check” her unnecessarily, or tell her she’s overreacting, that’s a red flag. It’s a subtle way of saying, “Your voice doesn’t matter as much as his.” This can happen in comment sections, forums, or even in group chats, and it often flies under the radar because it’s not overtly hostile, but the effect is the same: silencing and undermining women.

Funny how those animals with the "beautiful" physical traits and aspects only have them in order to put on a performance to convince a female to mate with him...

Or to fight over women or to take attention away from women so predators will focus on him and not her. Seems like they are all very much focused on women.

Hey, we can't help that especially in birds the females are clever enough to be drab in order not to tell predators where they and the vulnerable young are, where males are either useless in that regard, or even k**l the young when bonding with a new female (like lions do).

It’s not really about clever, but looking like a tasty piñata is a reasonable way for female birds to pick a male sporting enough health and energy to not have been eaten, indicating he probably has a good set of genes. Females ca afford to be stealth builds because they are the choosers as nature intended.

males in nature have to perform and show off in order to win a mate. the female is the one with the power, as she is the one that chooses who to mate with. in many different species, males that dont mate literally just f****n wonder off into the woods and die. maybe we should be more like animals? men put forth the effort, try really really hard to better themselves to increase the likelyhood of finding a partner, and the incels who dont just get sent to the woods to figure it tf out.

Another sign to watch for is the way some men try to control women’s online presence. This can include criticizing posts, policing what they share, or demanding explanations for harmless actions. Even jokes or “friendly advice” about what women should or shouldn’t do online can be a form of subtle misogyny. These actions reinforce the idea that women’s autonomy and expression are up for debate.

you would never go to the gym if that was your only motivation. Seriously, they've done studies of people who exercise life long. It's not about s**y. It's about the exercise and what it does for your mental health right there and then. The sense of accomplishment afterwards, seeing yourself as someone who exercises, THAT's what keeps people on track, not "wanna get laid" . You can get laid in any body type. I knew a hot guy who decided to let himself go once he realized the ladies liked him because he's a musician. Apparently nothing changed for him once he got fat. Still got plenty of women after him.

guarantee this guy has never spent more than roughly 8 minutes in his whole life trying to "fix himself" when in reality, in order to leave behind the habits and prejudices you acquire through your life, takes years of work and an immense amount of effort. i know this from experience. i realized at 18 years old i absolutely hated the person i was raised to be, the bigotry that was woven into my very existence. i f*****g hated it. and i decided right there that i was going to be a better person, or i was going to die. here i am now almost 15 years later, living a life im proud of, helping people that teenage me wouldnt have even looked at without disgust in his eyes. i wish i could meet that version of me, just so i could kick his f****n teeth in and tell him to do better.

Sorry, can't help that we have a sense of self-worth and self-preservation. I mean, sure, the male version of not saying anything for months, then exploding and shooting her and the kids, and then himself (because consequences - ewwww!) is clearly soooo much better. DEAR MALE PANDAS: don't listen to that t**t. You have a right to happiness, too. If something is wrong, speak up (because we can't read minds, no more than you can). Ok, this sounds like it needs at least a decent portion of indecent planning on the one who crafted the language of genes. Consisting of four letter through all DNA-biology (RNA has other letter, but it's four as well I think ... anyway ...), that dude's gotta be a master in that. And, as it involves leaving large numbers of people seperated, so they can adapt differently (skin colour, for example, most largely, results from Vitamin D supply and sun exposure), for several thousand years, only for, at the right time, horniety in one half of one group switches over to never-before-seen features - I doubt you can actually write such into someone's genes, but that master of programming who gets this achieved with four letters only ... oh my, some of the densest among evangelicals could read this as "proving god". Hahahaha, yeah, go ahead.

whats funny is hes just so wrong. Groom, comes from the term Bridegroom, which came from the terms Bride, and Gruma, Gruma or Groom meaning man. so a Bridgroom is a brides man. like, you belong to the bride. the other common usage for groom was as someone who took care of a nobles stable, where groom in that instance means boy, or more literally male servant. so a groom, in a historical and etymological sense, is the servant of the bride. dude couldnt have possibly been any more wrong.

Google is free, mate. Groom is short for bridegroom. The word in Old English was bryddeguma. The back half of that word, -guma, comes from a proto-Germanic word gumo, meaning “man.” Etymologically speaking, a bridegroom is just a bride's man

A man would have been better at discovering radium? D**n! Marie Curie got there first. Windshield wiper? A man would certainly have invented it if he'd even thought of it. Maybe. Eventually. Therefore, the brain won't gave an order to the ovaries to produce these hormones. As a result, the local hormone content in the ovaries will be too low to produce mature eggs.

I've done several flavours of martial arts and whilst I would never fight the men in competition, my sensei did a few sessions on self defence which all involved using your assailants strength against them. However, every movie is unrealistic, the majority of men would not be able to hold their own against five other men either.

Men do tend to be physically stronger than women, even if you control for height and general level of fitness. There's a reason women's self defence focuses on vulnerable areas and breaking holds. It's not a universal law, and the vast majority of men are not going to do well at 5 to 1 odds either.

If this post was phrased differently, it would have been accurate. Biologically men are (usually) bigger and have more muscle mass than women. This doesn't mean that a woman can't win a fight with a man though. A woman with good self defense training can absolutely wreck the average man

My boyfriend is 6,2 and easily has 50 pounds on me after literally 2 sessions of jujitsu I beat him in a playful spar. I don’t think movies are necessarily realistic but strength and size isn’t everything often times being small is actually helpful.

its not testosterone that makes a difference its really just mass. mass can be negated by training, but its still a threat. a five foot tall woman will on average have less mass than a 5 foot tall man, but if she has even bare minimum training she can absolutely win in that fight. that gulf becomes wider though as the mass difference increases, regardless of gender, the best featherweight male boxer in the world will still get crushed to death if eddie hall catches you in a bear hug, or if a sumo wrestler jumps on you. plus regardless of size difference, 5 v 1 is unrealistic in general. 5 random dudes vs brock lesner still ends up with brock in a coma.

For the ladies who are sick of guys BS. Carry a tazer, use it on any man who looks or even breathes wrong in your direction. Carry pepper spray. Use it like cologne. Carry a switch**ade. Don't be afraid to test how sharp it is regularly on creepy guys. Start a collection of testes you have removed yourself, show it to your girl friends often and urge them to start their own.

Men need to explain to other men that just because they find a woman attractive it doesn’t mean that woman deliberately tried to attract his attention. You’d be astonished how many men can’t tell the difference, and I can tell you from bitter experience it is absolutely pointless a woman stating “I wasn’t doing that to attract you”. They will laugh and tell you you’re lying to your face.

It wasn’t my choice to be kissed. The guy just came over and kissed or grabbed.” This was what Greta Friedman, the dental assistant who was in the picture, had to say about it. Depends on the guy's age now. An optimist says "Well, maybe this guy is 15". The pessimist replies "And he always will be."

In the minds of the manosphere that’s how they’d speak to each other, bless their little hearts. I think we all know what they’d actually be saying to each other about Trad West.

Hair is natural so what! Any woman who can be themselves and not submit to pressure from companies telling them how to look is actually more attractive

You can't vote if you are sixteen but if you were r***d and want an abortion you can't do that either. If you are a man committing statutory r**e, I think we should garnish their social security for impregnating a minor.

Brought to you by the same men who want women to shave everything, including their pubic hair, so they can imagine being with a pre-teen.
