Like many others this one's been doing the rounds for years, but I _still_ can't work out how they did it, given that the concrete has to be poured in place. First step, maybe you can understand, someone builds a wooden staircase as a mould. Second, you start to pour concrete, don't you notice that it doesn't look like stairs any more? I love how, having completed the job and removed all the wood they've then tacked on the extra bricks in the middle to allow them some purchase as they're climbing up and down.

This is intentional. Designer, Arto Kukkasniemi. Location VR train, Finland. Purpose, the design draws attention to the handle so that people will push the door open using the handle and not leave fingerprints on the glass. Strange, yes, but it does its job well. Some trains may still have these, but many trains have had a lot of interior renovations.
