This is heartbreaking. I am glad i live in a country where people have to pay exactly 0 for their insulin. Yeah yeah "but free healthcare isn't really free, you pay it with your taxes" and i am damn HAPPY we do, so people who need life saving meds don't just DIE.

This is so crazy - that it costs so much for a necessary medication. I am so grateful to live in a country where the government funds medications like this.

Over a century ago, Frederick Banting and his student Charles Best were the first to purify insulin (not synthesize it) first from dogs, then from cows. They got a Nobel prize for their work. They patented it solely to prevent others from doing so and sold the patent to their university (U. of Toronto) for 1 dollar (=$0.94 US dollars in 1923 or $17.27 US dollars today). Many people are alive today thanks to their careful work and generosity!

Right now my current pharmacy wants over $500 for one of my insulins. They want over $80 for the correct needle tips which don't hurt and are less dangerous to use. Not to mention that I haven't had the CGM i'm supposed to because that's another ~$90 for a month (hoping that each stays on for the full 2 weeks! ) Can't remove get my newest prescription either. Another cost of ~$600

I had to reduce my insuline because it was hardly available. I got cursed by my Endocrologist.

Utterly repulsive greed is!! We were warned that health care was going to be this hideous back in the 70s when they privatized it instead of keeping not for profit. Their warnings were spot on.

Insurance should allow a couple extra a year. What if you lose it on a trip or something? All kinds of legitimate reasons you might need a replacement once in a great while.

as a veterinarian, I found that US Walmarts have their own form of insulin that runs less than 40 dollars (NPH). So dog owners who can't afford the FDA labeled ones or lantus types at least can get something (just don't change unless under doctor or vet orders please)

Here in Australia, Free Health care is free, if you are on some kind of Pension or government handout. Workers pay for Medicare in their wages every week/fortnight/month... And many of us pay Private Health insurance, because if we don't we get hit extra with Tax.

During WW2, in North Africa, the British were due to move on from a port town, and the Americans were to move into that town after them. This is the very definition of "non-place" as defined by Marc Augé in the late '90s, a fascinating concept. Those are not places where anyone *live*, people just pass through in anonymity, without meaningful interactions and without building social networks or memories. The lack of experiential constructs deprives the places of "historical sense", making them timeless (in a "temporally undetermined" sense, non as in "eternal"). It's a concept very well known in architecture, it is basically a mandatory reading.
