Explain why there are question marks at the ends of sentences that aren't questions?
I found a job that had been open for six months at a factory. I googled the company, turns out the last guy who worked the position died while operating a lathe on some sketchy project that was totally unsafe.
I had an employer literally announce at the X-mas party that they had done record business for the year, and not 15 minutes later tell everyone that for the first time there would be no X-mas bonus. Record business, no mulah for you.
Employers will pay the bare minimum to not sufficiently encourage their employees to quit- at best.
Hey, one of my interviews wanted me to act out the story "three frogs on a log." Spoiler: I did not get the job.
There are many people who experience anxiety and stress due to increasing layoffs and salaries that struggle to keep up with inflation. It is younger employees, mostly, who tend to feel this burden more than all.
A recent survey by Cigna International Health of nearly 12,000 workers worldwide showed 91% of those between the ages of 18 and 24 reported feeling stressed, rising from an average of 84%.
I can relate to this. When I worked at Kinko's, we were all supposed to do an anonymous review of the business. My manager stood behind me the entire time I typed.
I just did one of those today. It was very difficult to complain without giving any identifying details but I think I managed. Pray for me.
Had a bureau chief call one of my coworkers to try and figure out who left her the horrible review. My coworker kept asking why she thought it was someone in our specific office as coworker didn't think anyone in our office had even completed the survey in the first place, never mind the fact that the surveys were to be anonymous and there were over 100 people in the bureau. Coworker told me and another person about the call over lunch, I smiled and just replied, "well one of us had to be honest" - they were so proud of me! I have no idea if the bureau chief ever figured out it was me, but she did make some positive changes afterward ... I was told that upper management spoke to her about "some concerns that had been brought to their attention."
My company didn't put the wages on the job description 10 years ago, just "competitive" and "negotiable". Yes, you are absolutely correct, they tried giving me the minimum wage despite how happy they were to have me. Their reasoning was "we don't want people to just look at the money". Thanks Mr Krabs, that makes sense...
"we don't want people to just look at the money", we will do it for them.
Load More Replies...I wish this was true. It is truly an absurd proposition to post a job and not list at the very least a wage range, specially when they know is below market. It is as if Amazon allowed products to be listed without a price.
As a millenial I have always refused to apply for jobs without a salary listed. "Competitive salary" or "salary dependent on experience" is just code for "competitively paying you a value below both you're actual worth as a human being and your experience/qualifications" - added points for "wE'rE lIkE a FaMiLy" which translates to "we'll treat you worse than your actual kin and expect you to put up with $h!t with a smile on your face"
Millennial here, I completely agree. I think it should be mandatory to have wages, holiday and hours of work listed. I applied for a job once that looked perfect for me. When they called me about it I found out it was graveyard shift and I wanted days. I wouldn't have applied had that been listed. They wasted both of our time by not listing a tiny detail.
As a hiring manager, I can confirm this Is sadly (embarrassingly) often true. Soooo much red tape.
As a supervisor who trains new employees, the onboard process should be erased and the stick leg should be broken. I work in a SUD outpatient; good training is necessary and often dumped on an overburdened middle manager because HR won’t properly onboard new employees. Sending me an email of their onboarding needs is not onboarding!!
When I started the job I am in, my manager was out sick and left instructions for me to read some info on our office internal website. I expected that when he returned I would get actual training, maybe a manual, or desk aides, a checklist, .... or perhaps a sheet of paper with an instruction ...
We may be stressed at work due to several reasons. Let us assume you have been given additional duties. Right now, you can be under pressure because you see this as an opportunity to impress your superiors. In fact, not being able to perform well might make you feel anxious.
Other factors may include disputes with colleagues or supervisors, tight deadlines, and working late at night. Employees who suffer from stress often miss a lot of days away from their jobs, according to the National Health and Safety Commission.
Had a boss who's favorite line was :"I don't need people who want to do 8 and hit the gate", only to be fired later for stealing from the company
He needed people to stay after hours to help move money.

I'm not sure if this meme is correct for the context. Joker wanted to burn the money, not keep it.
yep in this scene he literally burns the entire pile to show he's not motivated by money
Load More Replies...Where the money is when you ask for a raise. And they say it's "not in the budget"
My job acknowledges we are working for the money. But also if we want to be paid we need to, you know, work. Like you cant show up n d**k around. If you call off a lot your paycheck is obviously gonna be smaller
Easy to say when you're making several times more than everyone else and if the company crashes and burns, you'll probably be taken care of.
I had about 20 colleagues once, who all said how much they loved their jobs. Then we all bought shared lottery tickets when there was a big rollover amount. Next conversation for a week: "We shouldn't all retire at once and ruin the department, so what is seniority and age, so we can stagger our retirement dates in the fairest way?" That told me all I needed to know about how much they loved it.
But, we're a family! No, you f*cking well are not. Here's the deal - I provide a service for you and you provide me with money. Why is that so difficult to understand?
Dunno Man, learned to poop without waking up? That's the sort of person you encourage to make themselves bedwetters, because that way, instead of waking up an always increasing number of times per night, due to their prostate eventually reaching a watermelon's size, they can push off the surgery for another few years, delay it past retirement and then, die because it's such a massacre.
Yes it was called “Demolition Man” didn’t you see the movie? I can now crochet an afghan while knowing a new Ti Chi move. Plus I know how to use the three seashells.
Being passionate about your job makes you more productive and involved in the office, but when dissatisfied, some will contribute little or even start thinking about changing careers.
Engaged business teams produce positive outcomes within organizations, according to a recent Gallup report. Conversely, they calculated that poor engagement costs the world economy $8.9 trillion, or 9% of GDP worldwide.
I had a manager that was overall hated by most, yet corporate loooved her for some f****n reason, anyway shed stand and do evals and then come up to you and go through it it f*****g SUUUUUCKED and she always sat on her fattass in the office while we worked she was unbearable really, drove some of the literal other managers away and many part timers quit not worth working under her for what they pay, I LITERALLY paid more attention to her schedule than mine because I had to emotionally prepare for shifts LITERALLY, but I left too eventually because of her
I got micromanaged once, it was my first job out of college. I never want to go through that again. I was miserable. The only people that like micromanagement, are micromanagers and if they were subjected to it, they'd hate it too, probably.
don't mean to be that person, but in this case, the correct answer is 'too,' not 'to.'
Load More Replies...I can confirm that, as you are also responsible for the failing of this interview
In a 2022 article, Harvard Business Review mentioned that 43% of employees across the globe reported high levels of daily stress. Many people felt like they were on the edge of burnout. In the U.S., nearly 61% of professionals felt like they would experience burnout at any moment in time.
Often times, you can pay a new hire less than one that's already in the payroll system.

Which is how "internal employee looking to grow" ends up being an external candidate to another company. We're on to this dynamic.
Hmm. In my country it' the opposite. Internal candidate almost always wins due to union support.
when I was desperate for more hours, and new staff were being taken on on more hours than me, then I was expected to train them, that's when I mentally checked out. I was really good at that job, but they didn't give a you know what about me.

Or they come from another department and does not understand nor do they try to understand your department.
However, whenever you find yourself overwhelmed by your role, do not hesitate to have a word with your supervisor or manager about it. Talk to them about how you are feeling.
If you are unsure of how to go about it, note that your organization also has an interest in creating a better work environment that promotes staff well-being. It is possible for organizations to encourage employee engagement through a positive office culture to curtail the cost of employees quitting their jobs.

Load More Replies...Last retail job I had, HR dragged us all in for a meeting (many of us were on our day off). The genius HR drone spent the first half of the meeting telling us all about how much profit the company had made, how much money it was saving on products with its new suppliers and so on. Then in the 2nd half of the meeting that same drone wailed to us about how badly the company was doing and how that meant there was no money for raises, bonuses, promotions or replacing staff that'd left. We all genuinely started booing, laughing at and insulting the drone for being so stupid as to put those two things into the same meeting.
Need to use the profits to buy back stocks so that the stock price rises. Keeps the stockholders happy and gives a raise to all executives with stock options.
Always. And they would rather fire multiple employees than risk losing a single cent in profits.
Or in my case, budget cuts leading to layoffs. Right before Christmas to boot. Been out of a job since and since I was an independent contractor, I received no severance after working 7 years for them.
I've heard that if companies paid employees raises that kept up with rising profits, minimum wage would be somewhere between $20-25/hr. Like if you compared wages and profits to what they were in 1950, you'd see overall profits of American companies have risen much more than wages.
I live in Supported Living. Whenever new staff join with such gusto and enthusiasm I say to them 'yeah? Welcome to *name of my building*'. The new staff take it as I'm welcoming them. The older staff know I'm not and I see through the BS show of management. Six months later those 'new' staff come up to me and say 'I know what you mean now'.
I always hated that. Learn the sytem first and THEN offer suggestions. Also, I hated hearing "Well, because we've always done it that way", when I come up with a solution that would save an easy 30 minutes. I just did things my way and was usually ready to leave at LEAST an hour before everyone else.
Furthermore, you could do something to keep track of behavior that makes you tense. Picture yourself as if you were part of a new group, and one colleague always ridicules whatever you say.
When this happens, your morale may go down, and you may fail to perform optimally. You will get a clear understanding of your triggers and responses when you write down incidents that worry you.
Every client I have ever sacrificed personal time for because "it's an important project" and "this will lead to more work," are either no longer clients or they themselves left the company they worked for. I have stopped sacrificing my personal time and sleep for these people. I had a client say to me last year the "whatever we have to do to get the job done," line. I responded with, "Well, this project has been horribly managed by your company resulting in an emergency put upon me, so if you want me to give up my weekend, it will cost you $5,000 up front." He stared at me on Zoom and I said "That's what you have to do to get the job done." Turns out it was fine to wait another week.
well done! My experience has taught me that the reward for good work is more of that work, so be careful what you do well, and state your boundaries up front

I always remind my employees "you will not be on your deathbed thinking, if only I put more time into completing that work project 10% faster". Do your eight hours, then go home. If you DM me at 11PM, I won't be impressed by anything other than how much of a sucker you are.
Biggest career regret... constantly being respectful and polite with employers to 'not burn bridges' - and finding out they were itching to throw the molotov they had in-hand to let that mf burn regardless of what I did.
💯 Thinking that joining the company in the early days, helping build a lot of processes, train people, grow, and being constantly praised for my performance actually meant something.
"You need to send us your resume, and fill out this application with the same information, yet in the interview we'll ask you questions that make it painfully clear that we never bothered to read either one."
right? And you'll get interviewed by 2 different HR teams who ask you the same most inane questions.
Load More Replies...this just reminds me of going to new doctors or the ER, where i fill out paperwork about what the problem is and then i still have 2-3 people ask me about all those same things, independently from each other. like, why are you writing stuff down if the next person isn't going to read it?
If only every candidate put all relevant information in their CVs, employers would not have to do this. Why apply for a job as a Netsuite specialist if Netsuite is not mentioned once on your resume.
Why are you interviewing anyone without Netsuite in their resume, if that is the essential qualification for the job? And why doesn't the listing say "Netsuite experience essential", or "People without Netsuite experience need not apply"?
Load More Replies...I got one of my favorite jobs by answering "Why do you only want to work part time?" with "I've done the whole Corporate America thing, no longer have my business power suits, and quite frankly, just don't want to work that hard anymore". This actually landed me an interview once. I was sadly passed over for an internal hire
Keep in mind that Applications are not optional. The company is required by federal regulations to have an application on file for you. So they get this done right away.
So then why require a resume/CV? Why not just provide a space for any other information?
Load More Replies...It is also necessary to strike a balance between work and personal life. This means that one should switch off thoughts about their tasks after working hours. Continuously thinking about your deadlines or incomplete projects can wear you out.
Studies reveal that just thinking about work can detract from your ability to recover from it. So, focus on activities you enjoy, like reading, running, or cooking, during your free time. Take baby steps if you are unable to stop completely. Try meditation and if nothing helps, you can always seek professional help.

I relied on public transportation at one job. I had to leave at 3:00pm on the dot to not miss the first of 3 buses. The owner would constantly start asking me question at about 10 til, while I was putting everything away and shutting down my computer. I told him he could send me an email & I'd check it when I got home - in 2 hours. (Yeah, it sucked only having one car). He seemed confused by this EVERY SINGLE TIME.
We shouldn’t underestimate the power of taking short breaks. Stepping aside from your workplace or assignments, even for a few moments, helps diminish mental exhaustion and even improve concentration levels.
Another thing is that this enhances creativity. Micro-breaks could involve short walks during a lunch break, a quick chat with your colleague, or stretching exercises during sessions.
i'll just take the pizza and use it to persuade people to join my union. Edit: I will have all flavours of pizza, including dietary options. And a jar of pineapple so you can put some on if you really want
Don't understand that about America. Unions are a pretty standard thing in UK for most industries. Keeps things fair for both employees and employers
I've worked in a few industries in the UK, always joined a union as standard. Also fairly standard, first few days in a new job for someone to check with me if I'm in a union and offer list if I'm not. I have had a few bosses remind staff to sort out their union.

Taking care of yourself is essential if you want to be energetic and productive in life. Endeavoring to incorporate thirty minutes of exercise every day into your schedule, along with having healthy meals, is beneficial towards improving physical fitness. You can improve your mental health by managing your stress levels, meditating, and resting adequately.
Additionally, it doesn’t hurt to enjoy a few moments of laughter while working. Which one of these painfully relatable posts made you chuckle? Share this with your work bestie to enjoy some giggles during lunch break.
Yes! And everybody is thrilled, excited, delighted, inspired.... one would believe they talk about an amazing holiday, not work!
This post really spoke to me, but not in a way you might think. You see, I recently had difficulty opening one of those types of medicine containers. I tried to persevere and continued to attempt the opening for nearly an hour, before finally passing it to my wife to try. She also did not want to 'give up', but eventually she asked a neighbour to help out. He managed to open it almost straight away. Then my wife left me for the neighbour. Now, most people might leave this situation with a feeling of having failed, but when I look at it I see nothing but positives. Not only did I successfully outsource a problem, I managed to remove the one thing that prevented me from focusing on my work 24/7. Life is about the lessons, and the grind!
Nobody: LinkedIn Influencer: "I held the door for someone today when I went to the store, and the door was very heavy but I held it open for them anyway, and the person said thank you. I absolutely despise LinkedIn. As soon as I find a job, I'll update my profile and never check back again. It crushes my soul.
Why yes, I *did* show excellent adaptability and leadership, that one time that I forgot my keys so I borrowed them from a coworker
Gaawd, yes. I just realized I'm 2nd in command if the boss is gone. I've been here 20+ years and it still kinda freaks me out.
You figure it out , heck you make the same thing I do, you clown!!
Then one day the boss discovered that everyone is doing everything wrong and insists that nobody is allowed to deliver training except themselves. Then they fail to do it.

She wasn't crazy, she was a pill popping narcissist who got off on making one employee a year so miserable they'd quit (you can't get unemployment in Seattle if you quit, unless you file a harrassment suit against your employer - and win). I lasted 5 years before it was my turn. Bummer too. I loved the company, most of my coworkers and her husband, who was my direct boss. He made going to work fun.
On that show, it was this guy who was batspit crazy (yes, I said spit, it’s funny and uncensored)

Load More Replies...Seriously though, look for a new job. When companies hire terrible managers and then do nothing about them, it's a sign that your manager is just a symptom of bigger problems. Even if you outlast the current managers, chances are high that the company will replace them with people who are just as bad or worse.
I outlasted many managers and when I left, their profit margin shrunk for some reason.
And employers have the absolute balls to whine about employee loyalty.
I just told my CEO in a one on one that the middle of the road employees who are doing their jobs well and meeting expectations (3 out of 5 on their reviews type of thing) need to get raises that keep up with the cost of living, at a minimum, or they will leave. Especially the younger ones. He agreed, but we'll see if anything happens.
Can confirm that in a tight economy, job hopping is a bad idea. Also, midjourney can do art, so life really is miserable right now. Thanks for playing, and sorry for being miserable today.
No matter what the employer likes... it's not illegal to discuss your wage with a coworker. It's illegal to tell your employees they can't talk about their wages.
Yep and I've pointed it out to several business owners when they wanted it in the employee manual. Sure you can put in there, and then the employee can report you for unfair business practices - with the proof you've so conveniently provided. AND - I could point it out in the "Big Book", The Washington Employer's Guide
