47 Times Influencers Made Dumb Choices That Left The Whole World Laughing
Interview With ExpertBefore the social media age, kids and teenagers aimed for more conventional professions like doctor, lawyer, artist, or entrepreneur. But once likes and views became a valuable form of currency, many young people are now aspiring to be influencers when they grow up.
And who can blame them? Anyone would jump at the chance to make a good living using nothing but their smartphones and an idea. And while a good chunk of folks have found success, many, many others fail miserably. The ones on this list are just some examples, and nope, we haven’t even scratched the surface.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with wanting to be an influencer. But if you must go down that path, try not to do it this way.

If the bear had touched her the authorities would have put it down. Situations like these happen almost weekly here in Romanian. People try to feed them, take a selfie or other stupid stuff and when it goes bad the animal pays the ultimate price (sometimes humans wins the Darwin award, like the Italian biker earlier this year). All in all a bad situation and very sad to see 15-20 bears in 30 min of driving with all of them sitting at the side of the road begging for food.

It's sad enough to filter your own photo. To feel the need to filter your sibling as well is just wrong. What a tw@t 😳
Never used these "filters" but presumably it's just an automatic function, the software doesn't know which face is which?

I have a friend that has to have a filter on EVERY SINGLE PHOTO she takes. Including ones with her kids. Those kids are adorable and don't need filters! She takes tons and tons of pictures and when we are out eating I can't even enjoy my meal before she has to take a snap of it 🙄 Needless to say we do not hang out that often...
I FEEL LIKE THE HIGHLIGHTS KIDS BOOKS. OR BOOKS THAT SAY.....DRAW IN THE MISSING WRINKLES.🙄🙄🙄😫😫😫
She not only filtered her face, she’s had actual surgery on it, in an attempt to not age. Cripes. She would probably look so much better had she allowed herself to age gracefully. Of course, that requires that you take good care of yourself your entire life, and too many people try to burn the candle at both ends for way too many years. It ends up showing in their health and their faces.
Yeah that's definitely something we choose. Not because we live in a capitalist hellscape or anything.

Linktree’s 2022 Creator Report painted a picture of how challenging being an influencer can be. Findings revealed that only 12% of full-time content creators earn more than $50,000 annually. That pales in comparison to the 46% who make under $1,000 in a year.
As for part-time creators, a meager three percent make over $50,000 annually. Meanwhile, 68% don’t make $1,000.
Finally Found An Unfiltered Photo Of Her
I always knew her photos were filtered af, and have been super curious to figure out what she looks like. Finally saw her in a tagged photo.
She's actually quite cute and doesn't look like an anime inspired blow up doll...
I remember some influencer who had to prove her identity on a red carpet after winning some award because her reality was very similar to this one.
My friend is a 47 year old Chinese woman and she filters her photos so much that the first time I saw them I laughed. I thought she was joking! NOPE! 🙂↔️! She genuinely posts photos where some make her look like a toddler. It is so odd.. but she has friends who are in their late 70s and OLDER who DO THE SAME!!!! I just sat there like this 😦 😳 😮.. The Reflection... I Literally Use This Girl's Fitness App
Reflective surfaces appear to be influencers' bane. Well done, windows. Well done.
Do these people not know that this particular body type does not happen in the wild? It isn’t natural. Bodies are generally proportional. If someone has a large a*s or large breasts—-or both—-then the rest of their body is usually larger as well. There won’t be naturally skinny legs with no thigh gap and a naturally tiny waist accompanying a naturally large a*s and naturally large breasts. Period. The only way to physically achieve that, in reality, is if some, or all, of the person’s “parts” have been artificially altered.
Audiences may only see the superficial side of many influencers. What they don’t sense is the stress that happens behind the scenes. For Hannah Williams of the TikTok account Salary Transparent Street, it’s a daily grind.
“It’s just constant, Monday through Sunday,” she said in the same CNBC interview, adding, “the internet’s on, so you’re on as well.”
This Is An Instagram Model Lying About Having Heterochromia (A Brown And A Blue Eye)
She wore one contact lens until her father exposed her, posting a childhood photo of her with her natural eyes. Then she went to India to have a dangerous operation to colour one eye blue.
Hard to imagine the mindset that sends someone to get actual surgery to achieve what... health? No. Differently colored eyes. What the...?
Load More Replies...This is Sarah McDaniel. She even went on talkshows lying about how she was "bullied" at school because of her eyes. It went so far that her own father stepped in and called her out for her lie and posted the picture of her as a little girl on social media. Funniest shi*t about this is that she kept changing the blue lense constantly so that her blue eye always looked different. There are several professionally shot fotos of her that obviously show that she is wearing a colored lense, but she somehow got away with it for a while.
It was so obvious. It worked for her though and got her attention. She was on the front cover of Playboy for their first non-n**e front page. At the time I read that they were trying to use a more natural, fresh model for the cover and very soon afterwards it was revealed she wasn’t natural.

Load More Replies...I can not even get my head around why someone would undergo an operation like that just to change their eye colour. I officially refused an operation on my face the other year, to help repair the damage to my right cheekbone and my right eye socket area. Two small metal plates. After much discussion with the specialists etc I refused it. My eye is okay more or less. Can see out of it. So to willingly put yourself through something like this? Flummoxed at that decision

Could Not Have Gone Better
We reached out to a few experts who gave their insights on how social media altered the way people chase clout. It has been common knowledge that likes and views incentivize people to engage in more extreme stunts in order to go viral. But as Alex Direct digital marketing specialist Josh Doherty tells Bored Panda, the most astounding factor is the speed at which an outrageous antic can spread worldwide.
“One risky video can spread worldwide in hours, which makes the incentive to take that risk stronger than ever. That’s why you now see things like traffic pranks or fire challenges, where the danger itself becomes the hook for attention,” he said.

Ellis Digital social media manager Caitlin Jardine offered a similar perspective, but she added another key component: algorithms. As she explained, TikTok, in particular, is designed to be addictive and offers instant gratification through “endless personalized content.”
She added that TikTok rewards posts that provoke strong emotions, whether through shock value, empathy, or outrage, in addition to the multitude of viral trends. Jardine says this is one of the reasons why many creators “opt for sensationalism.”

Laura Riley, Clinical Director of Rolling Hills Recovery Center, offered insights based on her experiences as a mental and behavioral health volunteer for over two decades. As she noted, clout chasing before social media was more fleeting, unlike in today’s digital world, where engagements from audiences deliver dopamine hits.
“That cycle makes clout chasing more intense now than before, because once the brain ties in those metrics to a sense of self-worth, people feel compelled to escalate their efforts just to get the same rush,” she explained.

Load More Replies...Likewise, New Leaf Detox psychiatrist Dr. Sanjai Thankachen shared his insights as a mental health and behavioral expert. He described clout chasing as a “complex psychological condition” wherein the individual requires affirmation and recognition.
In turn, social media plays its part in satisfying the psychological need for acknowledgement and appreciation through instant interactive returns in the form of engagements.
“Such attention-seeking behavior may be the result of social media-induced pressures to conform to the trend of a hyper-competitive social media global village, where everyone strives, not to, but beyond their perceived best,” Dr. Thankachen explained.

Influencers In The Wind
I once was walking up Arthurs Seat. It's a huge extinct volcano and a beautiful walk but to get to the absolute top of it? Pack a few bits of food such as nuts or other snacks, make sure you have enough water. An unexpected storm came in across the Firth of Forth, there been no warning so as I was coming back down? Myself and others were saying "Go back down there's a storm coming" You could see it from the top. This huge amount of black clouds that looked angry, a few hours later a huge thunderstorm hit. Knocked out the electricity, caused an amount of damage to the trees and buildings but no loss of life or anyone was injured thankfully. So... I guess... Basically watch out because high winds can cause major damage and seriously injure you, please be careful!
