To me up until the last sentence the verdict could have applied to both, DIL and MIL alike 🤷 OP wants MIL to accept boundaries, so MIL pulls back, but when DIL finds out the in laws are in town she just has to stir the pot and force a meeting? And when MIL tries to avoid confrontation by "staying away sick" DIL just can't let that rest, either. She'd likely have beed even more angry if MIL had been honest and said "have fun with FIL, but I don't want to see you".

I essentially disappeared for a month when my daughter was not quite two, I was seriously ill in hospital and she was only allowed to visit me once, when my family came to say goodbye, when it was thought I wouldn't survive. When I was back home it took months before my daughter would have anything to do with me, I understood why but it broke my heart that I wasn't my daughter's comfort person during that time. Op's baby would be so confused and distressed being with strangers in a strange place. Who knows what it would do to them at their stage of development, especially with them still nursing.

If someone taking certain antidepressants suddenly stops taking them then can experience brain 'zaps' which feels like an electric shock in the brain, caused by the sudden decrease in seratonin. It is unusual that op only had them happen while taking the antidepressants. I'm on venlafaxine and I experience them if I miss only one dose. They aren't fatal, but it's important to not just stop taking antidepressants or miss doses.

Just a quick heads up, looks like BP deployed some code in the last ~48 hrs (I noticed yesterday morning… MST zone), that isn’t working as intended. Signs are: the post is/may be (auto)downvoted to -1, hidden, and Reply is disabled. Upvotes work but the comment remains hidden and Reply disabled. There’s no content in these comments that resemble links. I’ve already reported it; perhaps others could do so as well, so the issue gets resolved. Cheers! This is a very uncomfortable situation for me and it seems like everything you sit on nowadays is designed for giants - airline seats, car seats, furniture ... headrests push my head forward, long seats keep my back from touching the back of seats and seat height keeps me from touching the floor. Kudos to the OP and her aunt who figured out a way to escape such an unfair situation. It always boggles my mind how in today's world women are still expected to take full care of the household and family without help from all family members. And I fear for all of the "trad wives" who willingly do this (not SAHMs but those whose lives are built around serving their useless husbands.)

I honestly thought that I’d done ok on the “housetrained” aspect because my ex was a veteran; very vocal about how much training had gone into personal care, pristine barracks, laundry - including ironing. Put simply, he, “can’t bear to live messy because it’s been trained out.” The first 5 words never changed, but somehow over the years the second 5 became “you need to do better”.

I think this 19yr old is showing a great deal more maturity and insight than the majority of commenters. Most don’t seem to notice that saying her mom and dad are shıtty parents because one abandoned her and the other is a cheating scůmbag, isn’t helpful and doesn’t make her feel better. It’s a black and white POV that has little/no nuance. Her reality is she’s finally understanding from a young adult perspective what her mom was going through, how her own choices affected their relationship. It’s pathetic that in one scenario we will yell at anyone who says someone with deep depression should suck it up and push through. “It’s not that easy!” But if it’s a parent struggling with depression and getting drunk, suddenly they aren’t deserving of any grace because parents aren’t allowed to be human. Recognizing that her choices had an impact doesn’t mean OP should feel to blame. I’m mad as hēll at her therapist who should be helping OP see that comprehending cause and effect ≠ culpability.

However, I won’t put out a term that’s an actual medical diagnosis because I’m not a physician, counsellor, psychotherapist, psychologist or psychiatrist. If you can’t figure out how stupid it is for people to misuse medical terminology when they don’t know shıt about it, you’re the one with a problem.

Surely, one is familiar with the concept that there are varying levels of formality in communication. Should one find oneself composing an English literature essay, one would use different wording than in a business email. And if what you're writing is, say, a txt msg to a mate, there ain't no need for any formality at all, really. So like, conversations taking place on Reddit might land somewhere between the above examples; a casual, friendly informality and usage of vernacular phrasing might be considered rather appropriate, yeah?

I wasn't diagnosed with autism until I was 69. I do have other mental health issues. But I was a kid in the 50s/60s. Autism wasn't as well known, and it was even thought that only males got it! I managed to get through college and grad school, worked, did all sorts of stuff. But there are and always have been things that are very hard for me. The more I learned about autism the more it seemed to fit me, so I talked to my psychiatrist and she said yes, I am on the spectrum. I would never just say I have autism, I hate self-diagnosing. But it is an explanation, not an excuse. There's a difference.
