I work with two Jessicas. One is a real PITA, the other is lovely. Picking "a new name" is just as dumb as picking Karen was in the first place, as people blessed with the name in question are...people. Some nice, some less so. Nothing to do with the name their parents picked for them, unless maybe they are called Traiceae or some other name tragedeigh like that.

But did you go into cafés and restaurants to sell your stuff? I don’t see a business just accepting customers being approached in this way. Kids have come to my front door looking for donations or recycling they can exchange for cash. Colleagues have brought in donation or order sheets for their kids’ school or extracurricular activities money drives… never the kids themselves. I’ve seen donation boxes at the front desk in cafés, restaurants, bars and hotels, but never once a kid going up to unrelated patrons trying to sell something or ask for donations. I could be wrong, it just seems so unlikely nowadays, that the behaviour of interrupting customers while they eat would be tolerated.

Bone marrow transplant treatments were still in animal trials until 2003 when they started extremely limited testing on humans for strokes, palsy and such like…not cancer. The timeline for using umbilical cord stem cells is even later, the first recorded human use was in 2009 on a female patient; clinical trials for brain cancer only started in 2010, and are still ongoing. Glass children do exist, their lives are awful and we should have empathy. But OP is a liar, claiming stolen valour that simply can’t be true.

This is like saying ássault is always and only ever physical, so how do you explain “verbal ássault”? Violent speech includes insults, slurs, and threats of bodily injury. Violence includes breaking things, tearing things up, kicking and punching inanimate objects like doors or walls, throwing objects around. Violence includes intimidation: standing so close within personal space that they’re touching, shoving their face into yours so spittle from their anger lands on it, raising their hand or fist to you or drawing their leg back to kick. Violence is not “by definition” actual bodily harm.

OP did say in another comment "my husband didn’t miss it either! I had an emergency c section so he was right by my side the whole time. It made things easier when I got home to everything being set up." So I guess he didn't actually miss the birth but maybe went home soon afterwards to set things up? If OP was planning originally on giving birth váginally and the c-section was unexpected, they both may not have thought there was any reason to move everything downstairs until after the birth and actual c-section occurred.

I just read all the posts as forms of entertainment and I don't buy into them emotionally one way or the other. I don't automatically assume every single Reddit post I read is "real" or "true". In fact, I generally think of most of the "AITA" type posts as fictional short stories and just read them for amusement. I've been a paramedic and I still ride. The main thing is that you need to dress for it. Motorcycle accidents are usually bad, however if you have your protective wear on, you have a much better chance. When I got in an accident, I was able to walk away. If I wasn't wearing my helmet, jacket, strong pants and boots, I probably would've died.
