Who hasn't made a mistake in their life once or twice? Sometimes, that mistake leads to your getting arrested. In the U.S., for example, 77 million people, or one in three Americans, have a criminal record. Among those, there are a few famous people who have been in cuffs, too.
For example, did you know that Bill Gates was arrested in 1977? What's more, his mug shot has him smiling like a real cutie pie. Some even say that that's where the default pic for a Microsoft Outlook profile came from! We've got more celebrities and their mug shots down below, including their arrest stories. So, sit back and scroll down to find the most entertaining and interesting ones!

In 1938, A 23-Year-Old Sinatra Was Arrested For "Seduction, " Which Basically Meant He Tricked A Woman Into Sleeping With Him On The Promise Of Marriage
The charge was eventually dropped when it was discovered that the woman was already married. The charge was changed to Adultery then eventually dropped.
Celebrities – they're just like us. Except for the millions of dollars in their bank accounts, a criminal record has minimal to no effect on their employment opportunities. That's what most of us think, at least, right? In reality, things might be a bit different. Being famous might actually hinder your chances of getting out of a speeding ticket or a court sentence.
It's interesting that the data shows that celebrities actually have a 12.1% increased chance of getting convicted than non-celebrities. This statistic comes from a 2011 study by a Texan professor of criminal justice, Bruce A. Carroll. He examined 303 celebrity verdicts from 1998 to 2010 and found that non-famous people might sometimes have it easier in the justice system.
Keanu Reeves, Suspicion Of DUI
Ozzy. Charged With Public Intoxication
Bill Gates, For A Traffic Violation. LOL
Some of the celebrities in this list have been arrested several times, like Lindsay Lohan and Robert Downey Jr. Yet, some famous people have many more arrests under their belts and have not made it to this list. And some of them might surprise you, as they're not frequent faces on the tabloids' front pages.
Actor Martin Sheen, for one, probably has the record for the most arrests of any Hollywood star. Sheen has been arrested 66 times in total, but not for DUIs, speeding, or anything of the sort. All of his arrests have been because of protesting: in 1986, he was arrested for civil disobedience while protesting Ronald Reagan's "Star Wars" initiative. In 2007, he was caught trespassing on a nuclear test facility in Nevada.
During Martin's speech in 2009 at Oxford University, human rights activist Craig Kielburger pointed out that Sheen has "a rap sheet almost as long as his list of film credits."
Hugh Grant. Lewd Conduct In A Public Place, 1995
Unfortunately, every time I see Hugh playing a bumbling, awkward, romantic interest, this is what springs to mind.
Cher, 1959
Cherilyn Sarkisian, aka "Cher" was only 13 years old in this arrest mugshot. Cher was arrested in 1959 for "borrowing" a friend's car and driving it without a license in Los Angeles, California.
Tiger Woods Looking Disheveled As Hell For His DUI In 2017
My buddy's golf towel is a print of this mugshot!
Another famous person with an impressive sheet of arrests is the English musician and co-frontman of The Libertines, Pete Doherty. With a "mere" 26 arrests, he's well behind Martin Sheen, but the reasons for his arrests aren't as noble as Sheen's. Doherty has been caught by the police multiple times for possession and use of illegal substances. In a 2022 interview with NME, Doherty claimed to have been sober since 2019. Let's hope no more arrests are in his future!
Justin Bieber, DUI And Suspicion Of Drag Racing
Shailene Woodley, Trespassing While Protesting
2013 Reese Witherspoon & Her Then Husband Jim Toth
He for DUI & her for disorderly conduct after throwing around the "You're about to find out who I am!" She was deeply embarrassed 🙄
"You're about to find out who I am!" should be reason to raise any "charge" to "aggravated charge" and threatening an officer of the law.
Some American rappers also have pretty impressive rap sheets. Rapper DMX, for example, has been to jail more than 30 times for offenses such as firearm possession, animal cruelty, tax evasion, and violence. Snoop Dogg has been arrested at least eight times, mostly during his teenage and young adult years. Rapper T.I. has also had at least seven arrests under his name, mostly due to owning a firearm.
Prince. If I Remember Right, He And The Keyboardist Took A Megaphone Off A Plane Or Something?
*keyboardist Dr Fink -> "While on tour in 1980 opening up for Rick James, Fink had suggested to Prince that they should get a police megaphone as a stage prop. The next day, the band boarded a plane and coincidently , Fink noticed the plane had an emergency bullhorn in an overhead bin . He pointed it out to Prince, who then convinced him to put it in his bag since he didn't have a carry on. A lady sitting behind Prince notified the flight attendant of the theft while the plane was still on the tarmac. Fink explained: "The next thing we know, the pilot comes out and announces, 'it has come to our attention someone has removed some emergency equipment from the airplane, which is a federal offense" Sky marshals conducted a search and found it on Fink and in a stand up move, Prince voluntarily went to jail with him. They were arrested and sent to a local joint but it turned into a big meet and greet and Prince ended up posing for pictures and signing autographs in jail."
Nick Nolte, Suspicion Of DUI
Tyler The Creator, Inciting A Riot

You might ask yourself why cops even take mugshots of famous people. It's not like they won't be able to recognize and identify them without a photo accompanying their personal record. In general, mugshots are taken to make it easier for victims, prosecutors, and the public to identify perpetrators. Typically, there are two photographs taken: one front view and another of a person's side profile.
Al Pacino In 1961 For Suspicion Of Attempted Robbery
He claimed the gun was a prop for a show and the charges were eventually dropped.

Looks like Nick Nolte and James Brown spent the night under the same bridge.
Sometimes, people smile in their mugshots. You'll see that in this list, for example, in Justin Bieber's mugshot. Experts say that it happens increasingly more often, and some possible reasons might be inebriation, being disoriented, or mental illness.
"Many times they're smiling because [while] we think we know it all, they know we only know part of the story," a member of Tennessee's Alcatraz East Crime Museum's Board of Experts, Wyndell C. Watkins Sr., explained. "And sometimes they smile to get notoriety."
Lisa Left Eye, Arson
Looking at the bruise on her lip, I see why she burnt his house down.
Lindsay Lohan (One Of Many), This One’s From A Probation Violation
Khloe Kardashian, Dui
She looks too human. This must have been pre-plastic surgery.
Indeed, some notorious criminals back in the day were smirking in their mugshots. That includes John Dillinger, a Depression-era gangster, as well as the infamous crime boss Al Capone.
"A lot of times when we catch people doing things, that's not the first time they've done it," Watkins added. "So I would think that's part of the message that they are trying to convey to the public."

Zsa Zsa Gabor Slapped A Cop Who Had Stopped Her Car And She Ended Up Doing A Few Days In Jail
Woody Harrelson. 1982 Columbus Oh. Disturbing The Peace
The then-21 year old was "dancing" in a busy street, stopping traffic and then ran away from the cops. I found that he was charged with disorderly conduct, a*****t and resisting arrest, he paid a fine and avoided jail time. A specific arrest date is not certain. "Cheers" debuted in 1982 but Woody Harrelson, aka "Woody Boyd" the assistant bartender, did not join until season 4 in 1985. I mention this because I was originally under the assumption that his 1982 arrest and the shows success might be related, but no.
Kurt Cobain. May 1986. He Was Arrested For Spray-Painting The Phrase "Ain't Got No How Watchamacallit" On Vehicles
Around the same time, Cobain was also arrested for trespassing on the roof of a warehouse.
"Ain't got no how whatchamacallit"? Was he making a point? This one is over my head.
Patrick Stump Of Fall Out Boy- Driving Without A License
If you’re familiar with this band it’s even funnier that out of the four of them, he’s the one that has a mugshot.
Jim Morrison (One Of Several), Inciting A Riot, Indecency And Public Obscenity
I'd post the story, but we've all seen the movie. And Val Kilmers amazing performance

Ronnie Radke When He Was Arrested For Domestic Assault In 2012. He Later Used This Photo As An Album Cover
Drake Bell, Charged With DUI In 2015
The former Nickelodeon child star? If so that's the least of what he's done, which still pales in comparison with what was done to him. :(
You know if most people spent their energy googling instead of typing "who?" you might actually learn who these people are.
Given that Pandas are multigenerational, BP could include a brief bio too. Alas, they're more into the quick cut and paste.
Load More Replies...Lots of drinking then. Also, why are some photos taken from an angle that looks like the person is on their knees? And why are those people pretty much all women? If anyone has a genuine answer, I'd like to know. Isn't the best angle head-on?
By my count 33 of the 43 were guys. Kinda skewed in the other direction, simply by the numbers.
Load More Replies...Why more celebs? Waste of time, as most of these people aren't even well-known enough to qualify as celebrities.
That last part of your comment is objectively false. There are lots of lists on this site that have people who are only famous among certain groups, but most of the people on this particular list are known worldwide.
