Clearly your Supreme Ruler is very happy about the new bed and can't wait to test it
Hahaha! Clearly, one of them is about to make you say "hello" to your ancestors....in the afterlife!
Whether you’re a cat person, dog-lover, or both, there’s an astonishing amount of overlap between all of these categories, around the world. At least, when it comes to choosing names for your beloved furever friends. Luna, for example, is an almost-universally beloved moniker.
As ‘Rover’ notes in its most recent top pet names report, in the United States, the most popular female cat name in 2025 is Luna, which is also the most popular female dog name. The top male cat name is Milo, while the top male dog name is Charlie.
This exact same trend holds true in Canada.
We're seat warmers for their chairs, sofas, beds and all other soft furnishings on which we sit.
With my previous kitty, possession was 9/10ths of the law when it came to my office chair. If I got there first and she wanted to curl up behind me, she would tolerate all the rolling and swiveling I did to work. If she got there first, she would tolerate me sitting with her, but if I tried to roll or swivel, she would bite my b*m.
My cat was like this although her fur was more dramatically discordant than this one's (I liked to describe it as like an explosion in a paint factory, rather than a blending of patterns she had solid patches of this that and the other). She even had a litter with three similarly coloured kittens (although the grey one was darker).
I've heard it's genes that determine hair color in humans. It would be interesting to compare these kittens' genes.
Once sat for a cat that was terrified of strangers, so she was nowhere in sight. I prepared her food, cleaned the litter box, then made believe I left (opened/closed the door) while I hid with a view to her food bowls. Sure enough, she came out of hiding once she thought I'd left. Used that strategy for the entire week.
Wow! Our Supreme Ruler here at home does the same thing, even when there's no new items around
Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, in the United Kingdom, the top female cat and dog name is Luna, while the most popular male cat and dog name is Milo.
In Spain, female cats and dogs are also most often named Luna. Male cats are most commonly named Simba, while male dogs are often named Coco.
France stands out from the crowd, as the top female cat and dog name is Nala, rather than Luna. In the meantime, male cats are most often named Simba, while male dogs usually get named Rio.
APPARENTLY, You lost the owner's manual, it tells you you don't "fix" cats....they decide what they will do and when and how.....
And this is the reason you dont have tulips when having an cat. (Source: ASPCA)
At least those are roses so the petals are okay to eat XD But I stay entirely safe and I don't bring any flowers or plants into the house at all! XD (This time of the year is especially dangerous, as a lot of people give poinsettia plants as gifts.) But yeah, I'm not risking six lives just so I can have flowers that will wilt in their vase in a few days anyway.

I have an exceedingly rare smart orange cat. He's way to clever for his own good. He keeps me on my toes.
My ginger polydactyl was like that. I suspect his little white bits were smarter than the overall gingereryness.
Load More Replies...I have an all-black cat who came from a litter of torties and calicos. I swear he somehow got on the list the share the orange cat brain cell, even though he has no orange fur.
There's not a single orange hair anywhere in my horde of 7 cats - 2 voids, 3 tuxedoes, one gray, one brown tabby. But I call my brown tabby an honorary orange cat because he is 100% orange-cat-brained XD
Load More Replies...We all know that most orange cats are males, and that fur color has no influence on feline intelligence. But I've lived with at least 100 cats in my lifetime, and I swear, based purely on empirical evidence, that male cats are generally dumber than female cats.
there is something SOOOO satisfying in bottle feeding baby animals and having them keep growing... my TedEBear will be 7 months on 12/31... found him 5/31 at about 18 hrs old. Now he's a hellion
We have a ginger boy and he is SOOOO smart! He is 8 yrs old and stuck in his terrible twos. He keeps us hopping.
During a previous in-depth interview, Bored Panda reached out to cat specialist and clinical animal behaviorist, Sally Chamberlain. She was kind enough to share her wisdom and answer our questions about feline behavior.
She shared that cats tend to be alluring to so many people because of their large eyes, cute faces, quirky behavior, and the sleek, nimble way in which they move.
“Much of their behavior comes from their ancestry as solitary hunters of small prey. Because of this, their behavior can often seem mysterious and funny to humans because we are a very different species, even when they are exhibiting normal feline behavior such as wiggling their bottom when they are about to pounce on a toy or climbing up the curtains, it can be amusing,” Chamberlain explained to Bored Panda earlier.
And very little movement. Cats can often sleep in the same position without moving for hours on end. You end up getting worried about them, and resting your hand on their chest to try and feel a pulse. Such a relief to feel their little heart beating!
The sleepy little mirp mine make when I do this is almost worth the worry

d**n.....they sleep all day whenever and where ever they want.....oh to be a cat....
"I sleep like a baby," the stockbroker said as the market went sadly awry. "Every night about ten I go promptly to bed – then I wake every hour and cry."
According to the animal behaviorist, cats have strong hunting instincts. “Much of their behavior relates to being a hunter and survivor. Squeezing into a tight box could be a good hiding spot for a cat trying to avoid predators or it might make an excellent place to hide when they are hunting, ready to pounce on nearby rodents. Of course, in the case of a domestic cat, hiding in a box may simply be fun, but the above scenarios are deeply ingrained in such behavior because they form part of their natural instincts.”
It's like that twitter story of the guy that found a cat giving birth under his bed and ended up adopting the mother & kittens, no matter how many times I see it, it will always be adorable
Load More Replies...I spent nearly an hour looking everywhere for my recently adopted cat. I didn't find her until the last time I went into the kitchen and jumped in surprise to see her peering down on me from the top of one of the cabinets. Yikes. I felt stupid thinking about all the times she was probably watching me run around the house...and probably laughing at me.
Searched the house for my grey cat, doing my best not to go into panic mode. Several hours later, I found her tucked between folded grey blankets on a shelf.
my kitten jumped into my file drawer and it self-closed. Could not find her anywhere. Finally I sat very quietly and I could hear a very faint cry coming from the basement. Went down and sure enough, I open the cabinet, I find a scared little kitten and a bunch of shredded files.
we found a tiny black kitten abandoned in a car park. carried at home, and homing her with other six cats founded around in the years... after checked by vets, and let her on one of our sofas, we started our dinner. at the end, we passed a couple of hours to find the kitten, being afraid she can be escaped on the roofs of our houses in town trough a little window left open, missing her ... at about two AM, I heard scratching and whining a cat, and after another hour of search and rescue, we found her in a hidden space in kitchen furniture, impossible to reach impossible to reach except by a half-kg kitten... 💖💖💖💖💖💖
My cat used to like to sleep in a tissue box but as he got older he got a lot bigger so he slept with his front paws in the box.
One of mine insists on sleeping on my arm, I'm held hostage by a tiny, fluffy fiend.
Mine used to sleep exactly like that but draped over my neck. Except when he ball up and sleep smashed into my armpit lol
Cat version of the little kid who is so tired they're falling asleep at the dinner table.
He'd probly mellow out if he wasn't thinking "get this mf'ing bow off me you jackasses, am I a joke to you?"
Oh, he definitely is plotting something very evil against you! If i was you,, probably would check that all my affairs are in order, life insurance is up to date and most importantly, kiss and tell my love ones that I love them...before going to bed, because you never know, you might not wake up the next day
“Jumping up onto high cupboards gives a cat a good vantage point from which to survey their ‘cat-dom’. Their wild ancestors would have got up high to look around for predators and competitors for their territory, and to also lie in wait for prey, such as small birds. Much of the hunting sequence for a cat is spent waiting,” the cat specialist told us earlier.
“They can wait for many hours for the right opportunity to pounce on a mouse or catch a bird, so staring out of the window can satisfy this need for a cat, especially if they can see birds outside. Similar behavior is common in all domestic cats, which is why play is important for their daily routine, along with enriching their environment with high and low resting places, such as cat trees and cardboard boxes.”
Sooo, what about us, who have both, cat and a dog? Huh? I personally tend to say that they're my two troublemakers and I love them to bits!
My little tripod kitty follows me everywhere. He’s my daemon.

I LOVE the Oriental Shorthair breed for this exact reason. They are so gorgeous and simultaneously sort of fugly. I will have one someday, I vow it XD A lot of them apparently have funny meows, too!
Load More Replies...According to the expert, cats will “take advantage of anything they can” in order to ensure that they feel safe and their survival needs are met. This includes behaving around us “in persuasive ways” so that, for example, they can get food or a warm seat.
“The way a cat behaves has to be taken into context. A cat that is always seeking out high places to rest may simply like to sleep up high, but it could also be the case they are stressed about something at a lower level, such as another pet in the household or small children. Cats are instinctive but they are also intelligent, so their behavior is unlikely to be random.”

I was sitting in the vet office waiting for two of my cats to get their vaccinations (my Dragon Age littermates, Rook and Lucanis.) One of the vets came out into the waiting room to talk to another customer, an older lady who looked very well-coiffed and put-together, basically your typical Southern Californian wealthier lady. I expected to overhear an elegant or fancy pet name, perhaps Conchetta or Violette. Nope, the vet said "So, Dee-oh-gee and Ricky Bobby both did well..." XD Of course, I was there with two cats named after video game characters, so I can't judge!
That's funny, the best one I heard was "Shark bait was a very good kitty today"
Load More Replies...Chamberlain explained to Bored Panda that most feline behavior is purposeful so that they get necessities like food, shelter, and water.
“Cats are usually at their funniest when they are playing and have ‘mad half-hours’ when they run around like crazy. This is the best time to offer a cat some play, ideally with a wand toy so that human hands and feet don’t become a target,” the expert told us earlier.
According to the cat specialist, one myth about felines is that they are ‘evil’ or bring ‘bad luck.’ This is both outdated and untrue.
“As I’m sure any cat lover will tell you, cats can be very loving and affectionate. When they’re not, we need to try to understand what they are telling us and provide them with appropriate care, resources and enrichment to ensure that their needs are being met,” she said.

LoL One of our professors had to cut an online class short because her new kitten chewed through a cord. Next class, we--a bunch of grown-a*s adults--refused to turn our cameras on or participate until she introduced the baby.
I was doing an online class and people started showing off their pets. I don't have a cat, so I had my rats sitting on my shoulders.

“It is true that some cats are more aloof than others but they all need some sort of company and the opportunity to form social bonds if they so choose. Cats can suffer from separation anxiety when they are not with their humans in the same way that dogs do. The main difference between the social bond between dogs and cats and their humans is that dogs have been purposefully bred to look to humans for guidance and attention, especially in breeds designed to work with humans, such as gun dogs, guard dogs and sight hounds, whereas cats are only partially domesticated, having almost domesticated themselves in the Fertile Crescent in the Middle East thousands of years ago,” she said.
did you notice the little cat eyes in the lower right corner of the photo?
He looks like two cats have been chopped up and spliced together, but in the best way. What a unique bby ❤️
I think you only see this in a male cate when they have XXY chromosomes or something like that.
I'm not sure this is technically a calico male (who would indeed be XXY.) I think this is actually a case of chimerism or mosaicism. The tabby bits of him look tabby, not calico or tortie - there's a very clear delineation between the tabby bits and the tuxedo bits. He'd need to be DNA-tested to find out for sure, though XD
Load More Replies...“Cats chose to live near and around humans because of the rodent supply in human grain stores that became their food source, with some kittens being taken into human homes and tamed. Humans may have succeeded in creating pedigree breeds of cat, but this still doesn’t mean that the domestic cat is truly domesticated. It is in their nature to have an independent streak but still retain the ability to form social bonds,” the expert said.
“Many cats do seem to feel affection and love towards their humans but may have difficulty expressing it. One cat’s way of showing love may be very different from another. One cat might cuddle up in their human’s lap, whereas another might show affection by sitting on the sofa a couple of feet away. Some cats like physical affection, some don’t.”
Somehow or other, my address was passed along the cat network. Don't know how, but they just kept showing up to what became their forever home.
"Adoptable"? I'd like to hope this means that pet shops are taking cats from shelters for rehoming. I'm not confident of that interpretation, but hope springs eternal.
You're correct! A lot of bigger pet supply stores will partner with local shelters and host adoption events. Got my pawtistic lab at one.

While this sounds adorable for humans I’m not sure how I feel about kittens being used in that way.Could be very stressful for them.
My guess is it's good for them. Socializes them. There is probably a staff member that can tell if a kitten is stressed and not check that one out until it's ready.
