Roughly 2007 ish, in the days of Netflix DVDs sent to your door, I was at my buddies' apartment and we were watching movies I'd rented until the wee hours of the morning. (all of us were stone cold sober, I wasn't even 21) The guy that rented the apartment was sitting there watching one other guy get up to switch discs, said watch this, and then asked the guy "Uh, shouldn't you rewind that before you take it out?" And without thinking he was like oh yeah, and put the disc back in the drive...then stopped, realizing what had happened 🤣

While not appropriate for traffic, I have seen cones this size used in marking out locations of underground power lines during maintenance work. They're visible, but don't obstruct movement.

this isn't an OSHA violation. They appear to just be using them as visual markers, not for guiding traffic. My neighbor has similar sized cones they use for some off road bicycle event stuff.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, also known as OSHA, exists “to assure America's workers have safe and healthful working conditions free from unlawful retaliation,” according to their website. But a quick visit to the OSHA subreddit will show you that plenty of people’s primary concern is not workplace safety. In fact, it seems like lots of employees go out of their way to put themselves in danger while on the job!

Despite the fact that OSHA is an American organization, this online community welcomes safety violations from all over the world. And there are certainly some interesting ones! While the first industries that might come to mind when you consider workplace safety are construction sites and warehouses, this subreddit proves that any work environment can become dangerous with dedication to ignoring the rules. Or having no rules in the first place!

I am more curious about how they went about loading a massive stone into a cargo container. That's a crane type of load, not a forklift type of load - so I'd expect it to be on an open flatbed trailer.

Depending on where you work, the most common injuries in your office might be sore wrists from typing all day or back pain from sitting at a desk for too long. But if you’re curious what the most common OSHA violations are, VelocityEHS has compiled a list of the most frequently cited standards in 2023. At the top of the list comes the general requirements for fall protection, which were apparently violated over 7,200 times.

Hazard communication is another important area where many employees ignore OSHA’s regulations. This standard was cited 3,213 times last year. Ladders and scaffolding are often abused by workers as well, as the standards for both were violated nearly 3,000 each. When it comes to powered industrial trucks and lockout/tagout standards, workers broke the rules over 2,500 for both.

    🎶Slovenia thing goes...

There are plenty of workplaces that put employees’ lungs in danger as well, and according to VelocityEHS, respiratory protection rules were broken over 2,400 times last year. Fall protection is another important aspect of safety that many employees need to be reminded of, as the training requirements for fall protection were violated over 2,100 times in 2023. Over 2,000 employees also were caught not wearing proper personal protective and lifesaving equipment, specifically over their faces and eyes. And 1,644 workers violated OSHA’s machine guarding regulations.

It's not ideal but the reddit post says this is an aircraft towing rig. Meaning it isn't going zipping down the freeway. It is towing planes in and out of parking positions at probably about 3 MPH. A flat tire would just be an inconvenience, not a major freeway pile up.

They're foam filled. The extra weight is used as ballast for the forklift. You could literally wear these tires down to the rim.

Thankfully, injuries don’t result from every single instance of employees ignoring safety rules. But risking health and safety to cut corners still isn’t worth it. The National Safety Council reports that the top three occupational injuries employees in the United States suffer that lead to needing days off are exposure to harmful substances or environments, overexertion, and falls, slips and trips. After that, common injuries and exposures include contact with objects and equipment, violence and injuries by other persons or animals, transportation injuries, non-classifiable injuries, and fires and explosions.

This would be a temporary fix until a demo crew could get in there. The area around and below it would/should be blocked off.

I think this is a facade, but that probably won't make much of a difference for the person it lands on when it breaks apart around those straps. Clearly none of those strap placers have ever tried to get a sheet cake out of a pan with their hands.

As hilarious as the photos on this list may be, it’s important to remember that workplace safety is no laughing matter. According to SafetyIQ, having a safe working environment is crucial because it increases productivity, lowers the risk of accidents, prevents fatalities and reduces safety costs and inconveniences. And of course, it’s required by law for employers to enforce safety regulations.

The National Safety Council reports that, in 2022, the total cost of workplace injuries was a whopping $167 billion. This breaks down to $1,040 per worker, $1.39 million per death and $40,000 per injury that required a medical consultation. And when it comes to how many days of work were lost due to injuries in 2022, the grand total was 108 million. 75 million of those days were lost due to injuries that occurred during that year, while 33 million were thanks to injuries that had happened in years prior. And it’s estimated that 60 million more days will be lost in the future due to the injuries of 2022.

They would SO not get away with this in Europe, where you have to display your car's latest MOT or equivalent (colour coded) in the window - they'd get a whopping fine, vehicle not allowed on the road and probably an inspection

    Ace
    Community Member
1 year ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Lots of countries in Europe do not have any such display, and in any case tyres can wear out much more frequently than even an annual test, so it's going to be down to being pulled over by police in any case. In CH where I live the test is only once every three years (or more, depending on how busy they are) but is insanely strict. Failure to attend for a test when required means the number will be flagged and police will be round to physically remove the plates, as well as automatically issuing fines.

So how can we create safer working environments to prevent accidents, keep productivity high and ensure that employees are well taken care of? SafetyIQ notes that the first step is understanding and detecting workplace hazards. Identifying risks ahead of time is how we can prevent people from getting hurt in the first place. It’s also key to promote a culture of safety in the workplace. Encourage employees to use safe practices and to frequently familiarize themselves with health and safety regulations.

Another important aspect when it comes to cultivating a safe working environment is making sure employees receive thorough training as soon as they start. Studies show that new hires are the most likely to have accidents while on the job, so it’s crucial that they’re informed of dangers in the workplace and educated on how to avoid them. Nobody should ever have to risk their life or risk losing a limb just to earn a paycheck.

This safety violation and the idiot who doesn't where a mask properly can't possibly be in Poland (which is part of the EU), as the language suggests. Not possible. The whole picture must be photoshopped cuz none of these sorts of things happen in the EU out of their sheer perfection humans. MUST be in the US. 🤣 /s (I'm sure the irony and hypocrisy must be landing since Europeans are born with larger and smarter brains than everyone else on the planet.)

This isn't AS bad as it looks if they are being safe about the electricity part. Judging by the bale and the tractor this is a short pole and they are only about 15 feet above the ground. We had a couple of similar poles on our farm. That bale is on a bale spike so isn't going to tip over. It wouldn't meet OSHA standards (if in the USA) but they are probably just fixing stuff on their own farm. Hopefully the power is shut off.

EDIT: OSHA applies to all farms, but yes, congress has an exemption in place that prevents OSHA from inspecting / enforcing for farms with fewer than 10 employees. Also, it's child labor laws that now prevent kids from doing a lot of what I did back in the early 70s. Those may not technically be part of OSHA but my thought remains the same - I could not do now what I did then. -- https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/youthrules/young-workers ===They absolutely do. Google it. Where there is more leeway is if they are just fixing stuff on their own farm and are not employees. In the early 70s I was driving tractor and pickups and other jobs on a nearby farm when I was 11/12. I could not do that under current laws.

It’s not power. The lines in the background are what power lines look like. This is a spot or mid pole and based on the tube to the genius’ right it’s probably delivering fiber or twisted pair (telephone). We throw ladders on these spans in spots our trucks can’t reach all the time just not from in our bucket. I’d be fired on the spot for anything this dumb.

    Lee Stone
    Community Member
1 year ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

If it's just oxygen then it's probably only dangerous to the person smoking (things absolutely burst into flames in oxygen-rich environments, even things that aren't normally terribly cumbustible like nasal canulas). However, if there are any other gasses stored in that room, I'd be terrified. We store all of our indoor compressed gasses in individual safety cabinets, though our tanks are much smaller. Also, posters are absolutely correct about these things being dangerous when beached. Usually you see this with the stem getting knocked off when the cylinder is knocked over, which doesn't look like an issue here.

Oxygen is not flammable, but it can cause other materials that burn to ignite more easily and to burn far more rapidly. The result is that a fire involving oxygen can appear explosive-like. Thanks Google. Point being, still dangerous, especially with smoking involved.

If you have every used those little white zip ties - it is hard to see how it would stop anyone. It might confuse someone just pressing on the bar - maybe thinking the door is somehow locked, but it would never stop someone shouldering into the door to escape a fire. It's still a safety violation but more on a technicality than a real danger.

that was my thought. I don't see a place for a physical lockout and you would have to actually be trying in order to flip that breaker - so it is actually more secure than a lockout tag. It's only missing the info a tag would have if you needed to know who was in charge of the job.

This actually works short term to prevent spalling (pieces breaking off) until the pole can be brought down safely with a crane. They are reenforced concrete, so won't fall over without taking more damage then that. You have to basically pulverize enough concrete that you expose enough rebar for it to bend

Load of different sized roof trusses, at a glance I see at least 6 three inch straps (possibly more if i zoom in). Also loaded to be balanced on the truck. Have had loads delivered looking worse than this. Delivered flat you will always have peaks and eaves hanging out everywhere. Truss trailer is the best way to haul but that is a specialized trailer.

Saw a guy at a Flying J one night, just standing behind his flatbed and staring at the load. It was all flat panels of some kind and the top had shifted over about 5 feet at the back. Well over the edge of the trailer. Two of his straps at the back had snapped, now he had a definite lean on the trailer.

Sometimes management will not take action without some sort of evidence. "Boss! The boiler is over-heating! It has to be shut down!" "That's normal, things are fine." "The surface is glowing red and starting to slag!" "You're just exaggerating."

In Asia they make perfect and safe giant scaffolding from bamboo and sticks. The triangle-concept is observed here, so this is stable.

Apparently some of the parts for these need to be replaced every year. But if you're too cheap to replace them.... I'd say this is less dangerous than non functional.
