The same could be said of the singers, actors, comedians, dancers, and stage performers of all the previous generations. Luck and connections are a huge part of the system. Youtube is just one of the newer platform for the work. And yeah, not everybody will make it big, not even most people. But there's nothing wrong with trying. You don't go around to parks and tell kids "don't bother playing basketball, almost no one makes it into the NBA" do you? Let them have fun and take a shot at their dreams. Better to try and fail from the comfort of their own homes than run away to Hollywood or Broadway like they did in the old days. (Also, seriously, "I hope he has a backup plan"? He's 16. Why are you so depressing.)

Perhaps we should change the world to one in which people can actually afford to follow their dreams and passions, instead of being forced into a full-time job they hate to avoid being homeless, starving, and without health care. We might discover unsung heroes amongst us who would otherwise never have had the chance to show the world their talents. That poor, hungry child might be the next Bach, Hawking, Shakespeare, Renoir, or Curie.
