Think of the irony if Ms. Row-Smith would release the name of this band so their music could be used on whatever 'nonprofit' venture of their choosing. Let's see if the band likes their work being used without permission. Whomever is representing this record label doesn't have a clue about anything (spelling especially). Profit has nothing to do with "rights". Whether they're making money from stealing someone else's work isn't how copyrights work. It's the author's right to decide how the work is used.

Koodos to the boss for recognizing and rewarding her contributions and koodos to her for being someone deserving of a break. It's obvious she earned this, keeping in mind that not everyone has. I've worked with enough people that shouldn't even have a job let alone getting a pass for a pattern of tardiness and dishonesty.

Depends on what type of work, the situation and the people involved. In a place where people are relying on timeliness to transfer responsibility from one person to another (e.g. wait staff, factory workers, etc.,) or if there is a dependency of the absent (e.g. meeting, interview, etc.,) then it's plain rude for someone to be late. In those cases, one minute is still late. That aside, this woman deserved a break (and the tickets). She earned it by proving that the job was important by being timely for the eight years prior to this situation, and by being honest about the situation when it happened.
