I remember approximately when I started loving subtitles on TV shows, it was when I would go to the movies and watch foreign films that weren't dubbed into English. The first time I watched one, got so distracted trying to read and also follow the action in the film, but every one after it became easy and automatic to read. It enhanced my enjoyment of films. I saw Howls Moving Castle in spoken Japanese with English subtitles 3 times, then once in dubbed English. I preferred the subtitles. And now when watch a tv show or film at home, I often turn off the sound all together to just read the subtitles. You gotta give credit to the people who transcribe the text for those
