50 Times People Took A Pic Of Something Without Fully Realizing Just How Dangerous It Was
Train once sang that there are a thousand ways to die. But we think that might be a gross underestimate. Besides the obvious causes of death like accidents, illnesses, diseases, crime and old age, there are a load of lesser-known life risks lurking around us on earth. Sometimes, people encounter them without even realizing it. They make it out alive, and only afterwards, get to truly grasp the grave danger they were in. A few of these folks even take photos of what could have been their last moments.
Bored Panda has put together a list of truly terrifying times people had an unknowing brush with death. From naive tourists taking selfies in a Chernobyl claw surrounded by deadly levels of radiation, to people casually holding creepy crawlies that could send them 6 feet under in a matter of minutes… Some of these photographs might have you treading a lot more carefully the next time you walk out the door.

We Found A Giant Round Today. Weighs 125 Lbs And Has The Markings 62-Tbt95 And U.s.s.a.f. Any Ideas What We’re Dealing With?
I don't think carrying around unexploded ordnance is considered a very great choice.
Depending on which country they are in.. authorities may never show for things like this. In my country at least

The Guy That Mows My Lawn Sends Me Snake Pics When He Finds Them So I Can ID For Him. He Sends Me This Today
It is a cottonmouth.
I told him he’s insane and to not pick snakes up if he can’t ID them. Also he’s extremely lucky lol. Lord have mercy the man thought it was a ball python!!!
He needs to be taught the head-shape rule. If its head is shaped like an arrow head, it’s most likely venomous. Most being the key here, as there are many exceptions. To be safe, just leave them be
My rule is, if snek - do not tuch! 😅 (even if just Swe snek here)
Load More Replies...If you are too busy looking for nope ropes you might not notice a drop bear.
Load More Replies...If there is a single row of scales leading to the ãnal plate (underbelly of snake at point where body meets tail) then it is venomous. If there is a double row then it is non venomous. The head shape is not a perfect system and neither is the presence of heat pits. The only perfect system is the plate scales...that said. Please don't pick up ANY snake. If you think a non venomous snake can't hurt you then fück around and find out. Get bitten by a Boa and see how much damage a non venomous snake can do.EDIT: Because BP censored ãnal.
My brother in Christ, if you're close enough to be looking at a snake's a*****e, we passed the venomous or not sign a ways back.
Load More Replies...I think so. Maybe his family was part of the Pentecostals that held, and danced with snakes in church.

Casually Letting Your Kid Pick Up One Of The World’s Deadliest Creatures
thats a whole new level of stupidity..trying to handle a possibly venomous creature…without being able to assess the risk or identify the species
Even if it wasn't deadly, they also thought it was a good idea to harass and manhandle wildlife just to get a "cute" picture. It's so scummy.
Load More Replies...From Wikipedia: "The blue-ringed octopus, despite its small size, carries enough venom to k**l 26 adult humans within minutes. Their bites are tiny and often painless, with many victims not realizing they have been envenomated until respiratory depression and paralysis begins. No blue-ringed octopus antivenom is available."
My mum taught my brother and I not to pick up anything from the ocean unless it was in the kiddie "touch pool" at the aquarium!
That’s good advice, my dad was a passionate scuba diver, so we were taught by the beach how to and what not to touch. Weirdly though he forgot to mention cone shells, the amount of cones I picked up as a kid 😂
Load More Replies...With these little guys, you might not even feel the sting. You'll just suddenly find yourself sprawled face-down, completely paralysed.
I'll take my pics from a distance, thank you very much.
Load More Replies...ohhhh shoot, blue ringed octopus. I read a book about these in 2nd grade and made up my mind right then and there to never go swimming in Australia
That right there is a Southern Blue-ringed octopus (Hapalochlaena maculosa), one of four blue-ringed octopus species. And they're all extremely venomous, even the dead ones can k**l you. If it's brightly colored, don't pick it up.
Oh lord- These are just so staggeringly, lavishly venomous. Its hard to describe how toxic that venom is & they only show off their rings when stressed...literally one tiny nip away from death in 3-4 minutes.
The earth is filled with beautiful creatures, big and small, and it can be tempting to pick something up to take a closer look. But for the sake of your life, it's always best to err on the side of caution. Ask a guy known as 'Frank.' He was snorkeling in Egypt's Red Sea when he came across a colorful shell that he considered taking home as a souvenir.
"I thought I just found a very pretty seashell and was thinking about taking it home as a souvenir, but I noticed it's still alive, feeling some weight and movement inside, so I decided to at least take some pictures of it," he wrote on Reddit.
Little did Frank know that his "souvenir" contained a toxin that can paralyze or even end a human life within a few short hours. The cone snail can take down its (smaller) prey in a matter of seconds.

That's probably Uranium, you yutz! When the old rock guru dude tells you to keep it in the box, keep it in da box? It's just alpha particles, but you don't want a whole lot of bombardment over time...
Uranium is an element ... not a mineral ("rock") , Uraninite? Probably NOT an issue to handle it. (MSci Geology, Az State)
It may be uranite. It is quite common here. Funny thing, it was called "smolinec" which means "bad luck stone", but not because it would be radioactive or cause people to die, but because it was often found in silver mines, and it meant that the silver vein ended.
Load More Replies...Alpha particles aren't strong enough to pierce a piece of regular paper, dust inhalation or ingesting mterial would be the biggest danger
When I was a kid I got a mineral set from a garage sale with a bunch of different minerals, including one with uranium.

It was only long after his trip that the man learned just how lucky he was to be alive. "I actually had no idea about that thing being potentially deadly until months later when I randomly stumbled upon a picture of a very similar cone snail online, the texture was very distinctive, and I remembered that's what I held," he told DailyMail.com.
Frank then googled cone snails and the penny dropped. He shared a post online titled "How lucky I am to be still alive?" and included the photo of him holding the creature in his bare hands. Mortified netizens were quick to comment, with some warning him never to pick up anything in the sea again.
What Is This? Dog Brought In From Outside
it's rat bait. Get your dog to a vet immediately, take the bait with you. I hope your pup will be okay and didn't ingest too much. Some people are absolute bastards and poison dogs on purpose, so I'm hoping that's not the case.
When I was about 11 a neighbor poisoned my dog Marty; Marty was the 3rd dog that was killed on purpose.
Neighbor poisoned my cat. He sure had to replace a lot of car parts over quite a few years.

Yup. Some people have no regard for others or this was a tragic accident because they do have a rat problem.
We had a whole lot of cats in our area poisoned with rat bait...including ours. 😡
Beware neighbors who use that new rat poison that drives rodents out of the house searching water. One craweled into our yard dying, dog was curious, only sniffed it, did that head-shaking thing but recovered. A thousand hells on the neighbor who put our beloved boy at risk!
Wild Carrots? Found On The Beach Of Southern Zealand, Denmark
it's actually water hemlock, which is incredibly poisonous.
I was curious so I read about it. It may already be too late for this person. Apparently there are some water hemlock species that can poison you through the skin, and people have died by touching them.
Not in Denmark. This type of hemlock will only k**l (ffs "unalive you") if ingested. We do have plants that can give you a nasty rash if touched and burns if the area is exposed to sunlight, but our deadly plants have to be ingested.

Does everyone just automatically believe everything they see on the internet? Like it doesn't occur to anyone that random people can't just wander unsupervised and unprotected around the world's most radioactive place? Chernobyl is highly restricted and this picture is fake.
You kind of can wander around like this in Pripyat:Chernobyl. When I went, it was me, my bf and one tour guide. She let us do things that the group tours weren’t allowed to do, like climb a 16 storey apartment building to stand on the roof so we could see the reactor 2km away, the same way locals did when it exploded in 1986. It was very humbling. The only protective equipment we had were raincoats and rain boots that we brought ourselves. We didn’t do anything disrespectful like this though, and our guide was careful to keep us from touching anything highly radioactive (like the fire fighter’s equipment in the hospital.) We could have if we were stupid enough, though.
Load More Replies...The cone snail isn't the only deadly creature lurking in the ocean. You might remember daredevil conservationist Steve Irwin. The Australian made a living recording his dangerous encounters with animals in the wild. He was known for his fearless escapades with crocodiles, snakes and other scary creatures that many of us wouldn't approach with a ten-foot pole.
But in the end, it was a stingray that ended Irwin's life. The stingray's barb pierced his chest more than once, before swimming away and leaving him for dead. The "Crocodile Hunter," as he was fondly known, had been filming a documentary at the time of the shocking tragedy.
How Lucky I Am To Be Still Alive? Red Sea, Egypt
This is a textile cone snail, Conus textile. All cone snails are venomous and this species is one of those known to be dangerous to humans. Deaths are rare, about 30 are known to have occurred among all cone snail species, but likely underreported. So yeah, it was a bad idea to just pick it up, especially underwater where it was very likely alive.
Well considering they posted a photo and paragrap of their story, I'm gonna take a walk kn the really wild side and say that yes they survived.

Found In The Florida Everglades
That is a puss caterpillar.
It is a NOPE; DO NOT TOUCH bug.
It’s bristles are venomous; it’s actually one of the most venomous insects in North America.
The Everglades is not known for being a nice place for a nature walk anyway. It's full of snakes, gators, crocs, etc. (Yes, there are crocs in the US - only in the Everglades though)
There's something to be said for dreadful British weather, at least creatures like that are unknown to us.

Very, very common in Texas as well. They like oak and elm trees, and sometimes drop out of them. I stepped on one and thought I was standing on a lit cigarette. Then the stomach cramps lasted for hours.
They also like locust trees and come in green and golden asp form.
Load More Replies...Stingrays and cone snails are among dozens of venomous sea creatures. The act of injecting venom or toxins into a human or animal via a bite, puncture or sting is called envenomation. According to the Divers Alert Network (DAN), envenomation is "always due to direct contact with an animal (or parts of it like drifting jellyfish tentacles)." While envenomations are rare, they can be life-threatening.
"There are two possible mechanisms of injection: active, such as jellyfish or cone snails, or passive like lionfish or sea urchins," notes the DAN site. "Injuries typically occur during shore entries or exits, incidental contact or deliberate attempts to handle a specimen."

Petting The Animals
I've come upon cubs once, scared the w*****s out of me. They didn't notice me as they were terrorizing some small tree. I backed up and got out quietly. Lol, now w i l l i e s is censored, jfc
Overly-excessive censorship is beyond re-tarded and is clearly making the masses re-tarded. But, that's the plan. "An individual is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals". "Don't believe everything you read on the Internet" [Abraham Lincoln]
Load More Replies...Why do I feel like the person who made that candle had the knowledge that it's practically an explosive?
The balancing of the equation is wrong though. I think they wanted to write 2FeS₂ + 11/2 O₂ → Fe₂O₃ + 4SO₂ but missed the "/" and that doesn't really make sense anyway. The correct one should be 4FeS₂ + 11O₂ → 2Fe₂O₃ + 8SO₂
Also, it's not "explosive": it's exothermic, but not nearly enough in those quantities to start a fire or "explode". Those are a few grams of pyrite, and it would take about 100 grams reacting at the same time to heat 1 liter of water to the boiling point. The energy content there is comparable to a small chocolate snack. It would be enough to melt the wax in the candle, but without igniting or boiling it. The biggest danger is the SO₂ (sulphur dioxide) that is lightly toxic and dangerous in far larger quantities than shown here.

The words 'venom' and 'poison' are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference. Both mean a toxic chemical produced naturally by an animal. But the way they are delivered is not the same.
Venom is introduced via a wound. Think of stingrays, cone snails or snakes, or any animal that uses its teeth, sting, spines or claws to inject its prey or protect itself. "Poison is different as there is no wound involved. It can be absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin, inhaled or ingested," explains Dr Ronald Jenner, a venom evolution expert at the Natural History Museum.
Jenner has a simple way of telling the difference between the two: "If you bite it and you die it's poison, but if it bites you and you die, that's venom."
Was Cleaning Webs Off My Porch…
And this lady just dropped herself down from my light fixture right next to my flip flopped foot. This is the BIGGEST black widow I’ve ever seen in person.
I found a live female black widow spider in some grapes I bought from Walmart. She could have bit me at anytime when I took the grapes out of the bag and into the colander to wash them. I ended up giving her to a spider enthusiast and she kept her for almost 2 years. We couldn’t release her because she wasn’t from where I live and I refused to k**l her. She wasn’t actually quite sweet.
Most black widow species aren’t that aggressive! I used to catch them on the playground in elementary school. Brown widows, however, have become invasive where I live, are pushing out the native black widow species, and they ARE aggressive and will bite with very little provocation.
Load More Replies...Most spider bites happen when you don't see the spider. If you brush against it because you didn't know it was there, or worse, put on clothes they crawled into, then from their point of view it's self defense.
This doesn't seem to fit the thread title. Poster DOES appear to know it is a dangerous spider. We used to get them sometimes when we lived in California. I've only seen one once in all the years I've lived in Washington due to (I assume) the colder climate. And that one might have come with us from California.
Perhaps the creator feels not immediately squashing it and instead catching it to give to a friend is the dumb part?
Load More Replies...They’re all over where I live. Not aggressive and rarely sting. You pretty much would have to turn them over and put your hand directly on them to get them to sting.
I have been scrolling cautiously, and closed my eyes and scrolled down until I knew I’d be at the comments! I’m reading all of the titles before I look at the photos on this thread!
Load More Replies...Deaths by a female black widow's bite are rare, though they cause extreme pain and muscle spasms. I've encountered a few of these spiders.
Killed one next to my washing machine the other day. A while ago one got its leg stuck in the zipper on my makeup bag. I was half asleep and took me a while to notice it. Smashed it against the wall with my slipper and got ready for work. Found one in my kitchen rubber gloves. Smashed it and thankfully didn't just blindly put on my gloves. It was a clear and semi-venomous spider. If you live in areas like the SW US where they are common, always check your shoes, gloves and hats prior to use.
Over 20 years back, a house we rented was inundated with them. We killed over 30+ that year. Fun fact I didn't know was that they sometimes dig holes and live in those. Wind scorpions were also rampant.
While I don't really want to be bitten by a spider, BW's are really not that dangerous to humans.

It is no longer used in residential applications in the US. On a side note, the entry feed at top has appeared to have melted the connection with bus. Load More Replies...They indicate the snow surface is getting wet and losing strength and increases the risk of wet avalanches according to Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center.
Load More Replies...Fortunately, not all venoms and poisons are fatal to humans. Sometimes the substances are just used as a deterrent. Think hellishly painful but you'll live to tell the tale.
According to the Natural History Museum, the bullet ant has one of the most painful stings of all insects. "The pain can last up to 24 hours, but a human victim is likely to walk away otherwise unharmed," reads the site.
Bees and wasps are another example. While they both sting and inject venom, the insects aren't deadly to humans. Unless you're highly allergic and go into anaphylactic shock.

Back in the ocean, the box jellyfish produces one of the most potent venoms known to mankind. Some of them take less than three minutes to stop an adult's heart. You'll likely be long gone before any medical rescue personnel can respond.
Miraculously, an Irish travel content creator narrowly escaped death after she was stung by a box jellyfish during a boat trip in the Philippines. However, almost a year after the incident, she says she has permanent nerve damage and ongoing gut issues because of the sting.
Round Metal Ball Found Whilst Digging Has A Hole In One Side, Very Heavy Easily 3kg
If there’s a hole in a cannonball it’s for a fuse to light the explosives inside. You should put that down immediately and potentially contact law enforcement about ordnance disposal
People are stupid with old ammunition. Some dude found an unexploded WW2 projectile and he took it to the police station by train (!!) 😳
Had a guy here in town collect it and gave schools a tour in his garage stuffed with it! When the police found out, the government had to send deminers to his house lol
Load More Replies...Ok well this one is completely fine, it's an exploding cannon ball, they were filled with black powder had a fuse of slow match and were lit before being fired, if this one didn't blow it was a dud, these types of cannon balls haven't been used since the 18th century, any black powder in it has decomposed and is completely inert. Totally fine to pick up. People acting like this is some WW2 UXO which you should not mess with, they used TNT and had pressure sensitive fuses, you could set one of those off still.
Also caution if there is german writting on a bomb, due to TNT shortages they used RDX - 1.4 TNT equivalent in explosive force

One family in England had an un exploded WWII bomb holding their front door open.
I think I remember that one - from the last couple of years. I tried to find the news article, but failed. I think, Novelette, that the home in question had a Victorian naval shell in the back garden - nicely painted for a back garden prop and everything. Turned out it was filled with explosives (no propellant) and the bomb squad took it away, but without any special precautions. "Not safe, but not likely to blow up without severe provocation" seemed to be the diagnosis.

What Happens To Potatoes After A Year In The Cellar
Rotting vegetation in an unventilated space - it uses up all the oxygen in the air. If you see someone passed out in a confined space, never follow them in, call the fire department.
I heard a story about an entire family that was killed when having gone down the basement to get potato's. When one person did not return another went down to check. And so on and so on. I guess in that country at that time storing potato's on thr basement was common.
I was calling b******t until I googled. 4 people died lile this in Russia 2013. I was ready to call BS because in my childhood home we had a underground stone-walled root cellar in the basement of our house. Just a small doubledoor strait out to a dirtfloor. Mice and all. It was very safe and we stored potatoes there and other foods. (I'm not old, the house is built 1915 and I guess before fridges it was great to have. It is cold in there even in the hot summer months)

Indeed. Enclosed environments, especially underground, can be deadly if there is rusting metal present. As the article said, is someone collapses in a confined space, get out - stay out - call the emergency services.

Load More Replies...My friend's daughter was killed when a tire came off a semi and came through her windshield. Please try to distance yourself from big trucks.
Park your vehicle and let that truck travel on while you call the cops. Both those dual tires are going to blow. It would be ugly. That much structural steel would crush any passing vehicles.
Ive unloaded these at various job sites i was working at. Flat tires were not caused by unsecured or shifting load. Flat tires was because bad tires

I Almost Fell Into A Sinkhole Under My Porch. I Caught Myself On The Edge Of The Hole, From My Chest Down Was Just Dangling Beneath Me. Below The Opening The Hole Is About 10’ Wide And 15’ Deep
The hole extends to about the middle of my grill. These are not great pictures but it’s dark. I think that’s the foundation.
You should have authorities come and do a ground evaluation. Sinkholes are indications that the ground is unstable so they can multiply in number or in size. Some are big enough to swallow homes. Don't wait. If it shows instability in the ground below your home, get out immediately.
It's most likely an old rusted out septic tank. I found one of those in my backyard too!
If I gotta do a pull cup to survive, just bury me and leave flowers.
The parking lot gave way and my friend was left with one leg above ground and the other dangling in air in a big hole. No lawyer in the small town would take the case because the construction guy was a Big 'shot' (not my spelling) in that small town. May he rot!
When my daughter was small (about three) she fell into an abandoned septic tank on a neighboring property. Her arms on the top of the hole kept her from falling farther and we were able to lift her out.
Sinkhole, old well, disused min shaft? Just keep the hell away and get it fixed.
Daughter Found These In A Graveyard
Destroying angels are among the most toxic known mushrooms; both they and the closely related death caps (A. phalloides) contain amatoxins.
Well, if you ate them in the graveyard, at least you’d already be in the place you’re going to end up
Good manners would require you dig a 2m hole before ingesting them.
Load More Replies...Identify first, pick later - if possible. No need to rip out mushrooms only to realise you need to throw them away. And if you aren't sure what they are, just leave them anyway.
We have had two cases of mushroom poisoning in Australia widely reported in the media, in the last few years. One a (allegedly) purposeful poisoning by a family member and the other someone at a wellness/meditation retreat who drank a 'tonic' which had poisonous ones in it. There were lots of notes on foraging websites after, pleading people not to eat anything unless you are certain which species it is.
I believe I have picked these in my woods. But only to look at. Handling them is not dangerous, only ingesting them. And I don't forage mushrooms to eat because there are too many close look-a-likes.
But don't let a toddler handle them, they might then suck their fingers and be very ill!
Load More Replies...They damage the cells in the liver, kidneys and intestines.
Load More Replies...The destroying angel mushroom is truly terrifying. It more or less destroys your DNA, putting whoever ate it in a "walking ghost" phase, where the person feels fine after the initial cholera-like symptoms, but they're dying fast.
What a beautiful name for this deadly mushroom. I only knew it by its Swedish name Vit flugsvamp, "white fly mushroom". In Sweden we say: never pick any mushrooms that are white. It is a simple safety rule that's easy to follow.
I love foraging, it’s one of my favorite things, I leave mushrooms the f**k alone. Pretty to look at, cool to learn about, not gonna touch em.
Need Help Removing Stains From My Fireplace
I don't know about cleaning the soot on the front but you might need to get your flue checked out or your chimney cleaned. Doesn't seem like you have adequate flow through your chimney.
A flea and a fly in a flue Were imprisoned, so what could they do? Said the fly, "let us flee!" "Let us fly!" said the flea. So they flew through a flaw in the flue.
I grew up with a wood burning fireplace. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THEM PROFESSIONALLY EVERY YEAR.
This is a heat stain, not a soot stain. The chimney's fine. You won't be able to clean it off because it's not ash/soot/smoke.
That's certainly no heat stain. It's soot.

The Baldest Tire I Have Ever Seen Just Rolled In. Its On Display In The Showroom Now
we have mandatory annual vehicle inspections here. if you fail to bring in your car before the deadline you'll be fined and not permitted to use that car. if you do bring in your car and it fails the inspection you have to arrange to make all necessary repairs. keeps everyone a bit more safe
When I was in high school we ran em until they popped - known as may pops once the fabric showed all the way around. Then in college ran em until they became hummers - that's when enough wire is sticking out that the tires hum. Luckily now I can afford to replace them once the tread is almost gone.
Cutting Holes Through Joist For Hvac?
We are putting a new floor and contractor cut holes through joist?(not sure if I am using the right word) to connect hvac?
Does this seem correct from structural integrity perspective?
NO! Again, never cut the joists! Unless you want you floors to sag and possibly collapse.
People are morons sometimes. The integrity of those joists have been severely affected.
Load More Replies...Well now they need to be replaced because there's no structural integrity left
You don't replace them - you sister them. You don't want to tear out the joist. You want to put an identical one up against it. EDIT - But you shouldn't be being downvoted because you weren't aware of that. You're absolutely right about the structural integrity!

Just wow. I am not that surprised considering I lived in an apartment where they decided to just side over the dryer vent and just slap the vent exhaust cover over the topt of the siding without cutting a hole. The prior tenants who lived there for 2 years never wondered why their clothes never dried. The entire thing was packed with lint and could have caused a fire at any time. Half-assery runs amok.
Here, yes. However, statics are a crazy thing, and they are often done to enhance strength and save material costs. Weirdly enough a steel beam with holes in it can carry more weight than the same without holes. Calculations and practice prooves this.
True, but in this case they are not even engineered joists, so this strictly verboten. TGIs have precalculated areas for plumb/electric..but 6 inch flex duct...not sure. Certainly, do not put the 125 gallon salt water there. :)

Dude Accidentally Bought Something A Lot More Radioactive Than Expected
It makes me think about the story of the radium girls.
Load More Replies...This isn't that dangerous to own. Obviously I wouldn't drink out of it. Radium emits mostly alpha radiation which is pretty weak and won't penetrate your jeans or cardboard. For comparison, radium is what was used for years to make watches / gauge dials glow in the dark. Airplane cockpits used to be full of it due to all the instruments. It did cause eye damage to commercial pilots staring at it all day, but the small amount of radium on my old diver's watch isn't going to hurt me. INGESTING it though is bad. "CPM" (counts per minute), measures frequency of radiation, not its strength.
Yeah but why risk it... can't you just find some non poisonous trinkets

Many years ago there was a horrible incident in Ocean City, MD, where a woman fell in a hole someone dug and died as she tried to climb out. The sides collapsed in on her. They passed a law that no one could dig a hole deeper than the knees of the shortest person in their party. This is so dangerous. Yes, this is actually dangerous! I'm surprised more people aren't pointing this out. You're 100% supposed to vent your range! Gas combustion byproducts (carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, etc.) can be deadly or harmful to health. This is NOT healthy. If it's generating carbon monoxide, that's potentially deadly! At a minimum, with perfect combustion, you're flooding the house with carbon dioxide. At modest levels, CO2 creates a "stuffy room" feeling, worsens concentration, performance, and sleep. Really high concentrations of CO2 can even be hazardous to health or deadly. If you're properly venting your range, you're sending most all gas combustion byproducts out, but you're bringing in cold makeup air. Hence, a gas range/oven does NOT work for heating. Someone may say they cook all the time without venting. That's not good, but what's over an order of magnitude worse is running all the burners overnight. I didn't used to vent properly while cooking, but after seeing air quality sensor readings from my own home, even when just boiling water, I've been a convert.
Poorly ventilated kitchens with gas appliances are a very strong contributing factor to respiratory diseases like COPD and asthma. The smaller the kitchen, the higher the risk.
Not everybody is all that fond of hotels 🤷 For anything more than three nights or so I prefer my "own" place.

My Sister Called And Asked Why Her Dryer Kept Stopping

Finally Found Where My Lint Trap Is
Lived in my apartment for 3 years and ignorantly thought I didn't have a lint trap in my dryer. Found out it's under the handle on the top of it, but since it was hard to pull up, I figured it was something else and I didn't want to break it and get management mad at me. Finally figured out that if I pull it towards me, it'll come out. Got lucky today. So glad I got some radioactively bright red towels that clogged the inside of my dryer and proved to me that I do indeed have a lint trap I need to manually clean.
No - genuinely some of the old vented driers didn’t, at least in the UK. They just vented all the fluff out of the flexi hose you lobbed out of the window when you were using it. Nowadays I suspect they all do - our heat pump based drier has two, one you empty every time and one that you do when the screen tells you (I think it’s off some sort of counter).

Oh my God. I used to live with someone who never cleaned the lint trap. I didn't even use the darn thing and I'd empty it every other day
My School Blocked All Of The Emergency Exits Instead Of Fixing The Alarm
A call to the fire marshal and then maybe a quick blasting out on local social media should fix that real quick.
"Please just stay inside and die. Thnx and sorry for the inconvenience!"
I two times got trapped in a county jail emergency fire escape [on the civilian side, I am a lawyer visiting clients] because the County locked the fire escape doors at the exit point. The first time I thought maybe they just didn't know. The second time,,, smh
This doesn't seem THAT bad considering it appears to be something you could just flop over and exit out the door if there was a real emergency. It seems to be there just to stop kids ignoring the sign on the door. That's way better than those places that literally chain/padlock the door.

Just so everybody knows: you don’t need to be bitten by bats to get rabies or any other virus they have, being scratched is enough. Note that most of the time you don’t feel or see the scratch. Also, when symptoms start to declare, it is too late and you are 100% dying. Getting a preventive shot might be for nothing but it takes 1 hour of your life max instead of… just putting an end to it.
Rabies is actually quite rare in bats. There was a coincidental run of bats with rabies in the 80s because two women got bitten and died, and then nothing for ten years. Bats are very useful animals - they eat their weight in mosquitos every night - and quite gentle.
They can also carry up to 500 different pathogens, and while rabbies might not be as common as believed they should still be treated like zombies in the movies - any scratch or bite has to be treated

Gas Fireplace At My Parents House Does This To The Siding
Something is out of whack, gas shouldn’t produce soot. Don’t use it until it’s inspected.
Doesn't look like soot, more that the hot exhaust gases have degraded/burnt the plastic siding material, which sounds to me much worse than if it were soot. It definitely should not be like that. ETA I don't know what's normal or allowable in the US, but that vent looks to me like it's intended for extractor fans such as you might have on your cooker hood. A gas fire should have a proper chimney that vents well clear of any wall or roof structure.
Yeah it's not soot, it's scorching the cladding panels which look like plastic or timber.

I looked it up: Datura is a genus of nine species of highly poisonous, vespertine-flowering plants belonging to the nightshade family. They are commonly known as thornapples or jimsonweeds, but are also known as devil's trumpets or mad apple. Other English common names include moonflower, devil's weed, and hell's bells.

Im A Maintenance Guy And Found This In One Of Our Storage Units. Are Those Copper Bars Lethal? Feel Like This Should Be Covered. Wasn't Going To Go Near It To Find Out
Yup - live distribution bus bars - not only will they k**l you if you touch them, they are on the consumer side so you will get charged for the electricity that kills you.
Given the 2 studs on top, and 1 on the bottom, is there a cover missing?
Load More Replies...They're probably earth connections, so should not be live in any way. Still a cowboy job to fit the cover like that when they've had to cut the side of the unit to make it fit. All else apart it would be very easy for mice or other rodents to get in there, and they just love to chew electrical wire insulation. What could possibly go wrong?
I don't think so. I don't know the circumstances around this but these look to be 3 phase bus bars and neutral bar which would normally be protected by a cover, and the cover is not removed until a new compartment is to be added on as an extension (this is why they would be deliberately left long)
Load More Replies...My Sister Accidentally Left Some Salt Water In Her Ceramic Mug Overnight And Salt Crystals Seeped Through
here seems to be some misinformation about what's happening with the pottery here. When fired above 2300°F (∆8-∆10), the clay is no longer porous, and can safely be used for dishware. This was not fired at those temps, we can see that it's porous, and can hold onto moisture and bacteria. Some glazes contain toxic elements but that wouldn't be as easy to just visually identify.
This one is BS. For one thing, a mug-full of water will not evaporate overnight. For another, the mug is glazed inside and out, so regardless of how porous the clay body might be, the glaze is non-porous. That mug has been plunged into a concentrated salt solution, drained, and left to dry somewhere hot.
I had similar crystals on our pickle pot (or how is it called. It is a pot for making sauerkraut). I add salt in the water lock, because when I use just water, there was mold forming in it. The water evaporates (surprise), so you have to refill it from time to time, but salt made some weird crystals and few times those crystals reappeared after washing it and letting it dry (it needs few week to show).

This man and woman were walking their pet wolf down Girard street on 2/15/24, the man uses a rope as a leash. This is the second time I’ve seen this wolf in La Jolla which is surprising because it’s illegal to keep wolves as pets in California.
I’m aware that it’s legal to own wolfdogs who are under 25% pure wolf in CA, however I’ve heard from someone who spoke to the owner briefly that this wolf is 100% wolf.
The third picture was taken by a friend who spotted the wolf in La Jolla around a year or two ago.
How are they allowed to do this? It’s completely dangerous to have a wolf walking around town, especially amongst children and other dogs. Even if she is behaved the majority of time, it just feels like an accident waiting to happen.
Waaay too small for a pure wolf, wolf hybrid for sure. Wolves are HUGE.
Yep. That’s not a purebred wolf. The ears are rounded, which does speak to some wolf DNA, but absolutely not 100% wolf. I’ve been to a wolf sanctuary. Wolves are HUGE.
Load More Replies...Multiple people on Reddit are claiming this is a female named Artemis and they have met her. They describe her as really sweet. The owner claims 90%+ wolf content, but hopefully he's exaggerating.
Too small for a wolf, you obviously don't know just how MASSIVE wolves are.
Are you asking what's worse, an ACTUAL wild animal or a domesticated dog? Ignorant.
Load More Replies...Source? Because that’s BS. Wolves are not domestic animals. When raised by humans they will view humans as part of their “family”, but they will still play and behave like wolves, which means if you do something that they consider “out of line”, they WILL bite, as that is what they would do to another packmate that crosses the line. So, while a wolf raised by humans might not go and eat the neighbor’s toddler, it is NOT a domesticated animal and will NOT behave like a domestic dog.

Was Cleaning My Mils Basement When I Came Across This
That's a Staticmaster 500, used for removing dust and static electricity from vinyl LP records. There's a fine soft brush attached to that sliding tab. Underneath the metal grid at the top is a strip coated with polonium, a radioactive (alpha-emitting) isotope with a short half-life. The alpha particles it emits will ionize the air for a few inches in front of the grid, and this allows any static electricity on the LP to drain away while the brush removes dust particles. The useful lifetime of the brush is only a couple of years... this one has a use-by date of 1970. By now the polonium has decayed through many half-lives and is probably inert... but it would still be a good idea to dispose of this as potentially hazardous material.
