40 Times People Came Across Such Confidently Wrong Statements, They Just Had To Share ‘Em
Some people are so wrong you don’t know whether to laugh or cry. And unfortunately, they are often also the ones that proclaim their ‘truths’ the loudest. That’s why their incorrect statements have to be refuted loudly as well, and what better way to reach a vast audience than turning to the good old internet?
Refuting false information is exactly what the ‘Confidently Incorrect’ subreddit is for. To be more exact, it’s “for those times when people are way too smug about their wrong answer”, according to their own description. Even though the community was started just a few years ago, in 2020, it has already amassed nearly 990k members, eager to show just how wrong—yet confident—some people can be. We’ve gathered some pretty colorful examples of that, so scroll down to find them on the list below and enjoy.

Metric System At It Again
The sciences like astronomy and medicine use the metric system as a standard regardless of what country you're in (yes that includes the US). The metric system is all based on tens and it's very easy to convert between units of measurement, which reduces errors. Check any medication label, it's going to be in mg or micrograms

Watching someone dig their own grave by being smug about their wrong answer can be surprisingly amusing. However, misinformation online is quite a prevalent problem in this day and age. And it’s likely that the internet is where such mistaken people find the false information in the first place.
Even if that’s not where they learn it, they might find supporting statements online nevertheless. Pew Research Center pointed out that, according to a 2016 study, people tend to seek information online that aligns with their views. (Even—or maybe especially so?—if they’re far from the truth.)
Pew Research Center also revealed that after the election in 2016, 64% of adults believed fake news stories can cause a great deal of confusion. However, as much as 23% of them admitted to have shared fabricated political stories themselves, whether by mistake or intentionally.

According to Pew Research Center, the way fake news spreads is based on people’s primal quest for success and power, which is why it’s likely to persist in the future. Experts predict that, “manipulative actors will use new digital tools to take advantage of humans’ inbred preference for comfort and convenience and their craving for the answers they find in reinforcing echo chambers.”
Another enabling factor for the spread of misinformation online is the fast pace of technological change. It is believed that the rising speed, reach and efficiency of the internet, together with an abundance of online applications, can magnify the aforementioned human tendencies to the extent that false information crowds out reliable information.

Studies reveal that nearly 40% of kids believe everything they read on the internet. But children can’t be the only ones who take whatever they read online for a fact. It’s likely safe to assume that most of us have bought something we saw online that ended up being false information at least once.

But then why do we continue to believe the online world, you may wonder? Well, Forbes delved deeper into that and pointed out that looking for information online is easy—why go to a library when you have an array of webpages ready at your fingertips? Moreover, there are also no gatekeepers scanning and filtering information.
“Instead of browsing a small carefully curated set of high-quality informational streams, our online citizenry are thrown into an ocean of almost limitless low-quality information, forced to expend considerable effort to forage for the rare bit of accurate insight,” the article read in part.
It pointed out that nowadays, instead of turning to a competent person, equipped with all the necessary knowledge, people tend to do a quick online search and click on the first link, whether it’s reliable or not.

Similarly to counting on the things online to be true, we tend to also believe the confident people around us. As a matter of fact, our brains are wired in a way that allows them to influence our beliefs.
According to a 2017 study, people base their beliefs on three main factors: personal experience, views of the majority, and views of the confident people. The study of 23 individuals revealed that the first two were positively linked to the reward system in our brain, responsible for how happy we are after choosing something. Yet, the third one—the opinion of confident people—was the only one to have an additional effect on that reward system.

The instances from the ‘Confidently Incorrect’ subreddit are excellent examples of why one should never blindly trust everything they see online or learn from confident people. Or at least, why they should fact-check the information. Luckily, a 2022 survey revealed that as many as nine in ten Americans actually do.

The aforementioned survey also revealed what social media platforms Americans trust the least with Facebook taking the lead—42% of the surveyed users said they frequently see debatable content on it. It was followed by TikTok and Twitter with 35% and 32% people respectively stating the same about them.
Posts that end up on the ‘Confidently Incorrect’ subreddit come from all sorts of social media platforms, which is why there’s always new content for its members to enjoy. If you’re done with all the examples of this list and would love to see more, check out our previous editions of people being smug about their wrong answers here, here, here, and here.

Ancient Babylonian Pagan Cult
Well if they're worshipping Lucifer they're obviously Christian...as far as I know that's the only religion that believes Lucifer is the king of hell or whatever.
Yea I don't think Christians are worshiping Lucifer.... kind of the opposite I believe.
Load More Replies...And Pagan is NOT synonymous with satan, satan is a Christian construct, not a Pagan one.
@Kristal, I don't want to seem rude or argumentative, However, I want you to be aware that your theology is a bit off. The English word Satan is a transliteration of a Hebrew word hasatan (it means adversary or accuser) The concept of hasatan did not originate in the New Testament from which we get the word Christian (see Acts 11:26) hasatan is introduced in the TaNakh (what the Israelites call their Holy Bible) or Old Testament. In the book of Job, about chapter 1 verse 6. The very first "christians" were TaNaKh readers, or Jewish sons of Abram, Isaac, and Jacob. TaNaKh is a Hebrew acronym for "Law, Prophets &Psalms. The Christ READ AND LIVED the TaNakh by example. The Messiah ONLY had the TaNaKh from which to prove in written form who he claimed to be. I ask you to read Like 24:44. Respectfully I disagree with your assessment that the accuser is an antiquated "Christian" construct. I believe you to be a sincere investigator of TRUTH! I HOPE you find it. I'd enjoy a discussion!
Load More Replies...Hey pandas. Would some of you be able to tone down your anti-religous stance? I am not a religous person, but religion in all forms is important to a lot of people, and treating it like a joke or something to be held with contempt is harmful to the people on here who are. While there are some churches and branches of religion that are actively harmful or hateful, this does not represent religion or religous people as a whole.
If your belief cannot withstand scrutiny, skepticism, or critique, that's a you problem
Load More Replies...When you're so abysmally stupid, you don't know the history of your heretical Christian sect, and you think Lucifer is a pagan Babylonian sun god. Or the etymology of the name Lucifer, for that matter. (And a HUGE shoutout to my 10th grade English teacher who insisted we memorize Latin and Greek word roots. Hope you're doing well, Ms. Chesnicki, and I loved your class.)
Thank you for that. That is the best description of Roman Catholicism I have heard....it is a heretical Christian SECT, it does not hold on to Biblical truth. Some truth, yes. Although Henry VIll was probably one of the most vile rulers on earth, there was one thing he did. He broke from the Catholic church. He did it for purely selfish reasons, but people like Thomas Cromwell, Thomas Cramer, Tindal, Luther, rebelled against the purely evil customs the TC church was promoting. Like selling parts of THE REAL CROSS that Jesus died on. And selling THE REAL BREAD from the actual last supper, just to make money for the church. One of my favorite lines from the BBC miniseriesWOLF HALL has Mark Rylance, who plays Cromwell asking his young apprentice, WHAT'S IN THE BOX (of items taken from an Abbey). GUESS, says the young apprentice TEETH FROM THE COMB OF MARY MAGDALENE? replies Cromwell? NO, SAINT ABALONIAS'S nail parings. Cromwell replies THE MAN MUST HAVE HAD A THOUSAND FINGERS.
Load More Replies...That's pretty common programming for fringe evangelicals. Catholicism is seen as a "fallen" church and their particular denomination has found its way back to true righteousness. It comes back to the insecurities we all have and the need to put other people down to ignore our own flaws. It's easier to point fingers than it is to change. The fact is the Gospel is hard, factual or not. It calls us to help others where they are (not judge them) and change ourselves.
For Wes...thank you for your comments, I think it is terrible you got 3 downvotes, because you are telling the truth
Load More Replies...You haven't been to the ruins of hanging gardens in Italy (formerly Babylon)?
Load More Replies...Given that the origin of Lucifer is Latin for ‘light-bringing, morning star’ (i.e. enlightening) it's not surprising that the zombie cult considers it evil.
Often you don't even have to read the text of a meme. You can tell it's chock full of BS just by the alarmist use of colors and fonts.
GASP! that is for us roman Catholics! Say I, a gay Jewish Catholic, or Jatholic as my parents... do not find funny.
You can't UNKNOWINGLY WORSHIP anything at any time... Thats like saying a person unknowingly loves the taste of chicken... they KNOW they love the taste, and it's still true even if they call chicken by another name. they still know they love that *thing*.
It would explain why the Catholic church is worth $30 billion but still asks its congregation to give to charity.
people are dying from lack of essentials due to poverty yet the Vatican is filled with "material things" worth a fortune. These "holy men" (scoff) live in luxury while many others cant afford even basic human necessities. How is this in keeping with their so called "gods word" its a grift at best
I always find it funny when protestants say catholics aren't Christians, even I know that catholicism is a Christian denomination that predates protesantism and I know jack about religion. It is possible an orthodox person posted this, but this gives me q-anon evangelical protestant American vibes
This has the same energy as the dude who said the Pope isn't a real Catholic.
Well, I just finished the Nag Hammadi scrolls. In the second book of John, Jesus does set out the hierarchy of entities. He reveals that old testament god is not God, but rather someone that is not really a good guy. And Jesus's dad is super big god, who is nice. It did explain how you go from smite 'em all god to peace and love jesus.
They do realize at one time they possessed all the written Gospels, right? (We'll not go into when the Islamic empire had them all), so if they had them, and they are going from the same book, what does that make them?
I have heard of a so called "Christian" church/cult that seems to be against Catholics. A friend used to babysit two kids whose family was a part of this church and they believed the color black was evil and Catholic priests wear black. Mind, some of them ARE evil.
I was once told that Catholics aren't Christians because to be Christian you only have to believe in the Christian God, but to be Catholic have to do 'good works'. So, yeah, clearly Catholics aren't Christian.
I'm not sure who told you that, but it's wrong. Catholics have no tenet in their faith re' "good works." Catholics ARE Christians. A Christian is someone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God and our Redeemer. Catholics believe this, as do most mainstream Christians. Catholics are Christians.

The sad part is more and more of these morons are going out into the world thanks to America's terrible education, especially here in the south.
