With countless occupations and professions people do in this world, it’s easy not to know much about how a day at work looks for everyone else except you.
In that sense, we know very little about what doctors, journalists, firefighters, truck drivers and all the others really do while on duty.
So Bored Panda created this list of pictures that show the invisible side of different jobs we don’t get to see often, if ever. The photos from on duty speak stories without any words, so pull your seat closer and enjoy the ride!

A Dog I Knew In My Last Job. My Job Was To Receive And Redistribute Things Like Food, Medication, Clothing, Blankets And Toys To People Who Need It
"The absolute perfect job probably doesn’t exist," Christine Mitterbauer, a licensed and ICF-approved career coach and serial entrepreneur, told Bored Panda in an interview. Having said that, she believes that it’s possible to get a job that is 90% perfect.
"Where most people go wrong, however, is by thinking they can achieve this in a few months, whereas especially if they’re looking for a career change, you need to think long-term and be willing to work hard to achieve this," Christine explained.
She added that even in a fantastic job, there will be bad days or even weeks. "So you always need to keep the big picture in mind, as well as get clarity on what work values are most important to you."
Sometimes Working Night Shifts Has Rewards

We also wondered why our society puts so much importance on careers while we know that it leads to burnouts or our lives being put on hold.
Christine explained that it’s maybe because for decades, people did work just to survive: “after wars and economic downturns, people are happy to have a job that puts food on the table.” But as things have improved, she argues, “people expect more from their job than simply a pay check, you could say it’s a result of how well we’re doing overall.”

In fact, “You could argue that some people now expect too much from their jobs (aka happiness and fulfillment), and they might be wise in considering whether they could achieve more happiness and fulfillment from other parts of their lives too.”
The main signs that a person is happy at work can come down to asking yourself these questions, according to Christine. “Are you able to switch off over the weekend and not think of work? Do you even look forward to Monday morning? Do you feel work is getting the best out of you?”
What makes someone happy at work is very individual, Christine said, but often a mix of being stimulated, supported, rewarded, and having great colleagues and bosses.

If there’s anything the worldwide pandemic taught us, it's rethinking our priorities and values in life, including our work and life balance. Many employees switched to partially or fully remote work, while others quit en masse, which caused the Great Resignation.
In a previous interview with Bored Panda, Dr. Gleb Tsipursky, the best-selling author and CEO of Disaster Avoidance Experts, explained that the Great Resignation is a phenomenon that began in 2021, where a large number of people across various industries and countries decided to voluntarily leave their jobs.
“This mass exodus from the workforce was primarily driven by a combination of factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, changing work-life balance expectations, and increased demand for higher wages and better working conditions.”

The pandemic prompted many workers to reevaluate their priorities, leading them to seek out more fulfilling and flexible work opportunities. Additionally, government stimulus packages and unemployment benefits provided a safety net for some people, enabling them to take time to reconsider their career paths.

My Arm After Grinding Fiberglass All Day
Tell me there is a long sleeved shirt under that, otherwise this is foolish. When I handle insulation, I wear a long sleeved shirt regardless of the temperature.
Hope you wear a respirator. Should be wearing a grind suit too. That s**t gets everywhere, and your clothes are forever ruined.
No, just wash separately twice in cold water, and dry on cool for about twice the normal time. Clean the lint filter thoroughly and wipe out the dryer drum with a damp cloth when finished. And if you have any sense, you tackle projects like this in old ratty clothes from the beginning. The filter mask is a must, I just used my dual filter painting mask with the filters rated for fibreglass and such dust. Took four sets of filters to get the hull as I wanted. Only took two sets of paint filters for the entire hull, inside and out. If you aren't sure, ask someone who does it for a living. You'll be safer, and meet some really cool folks as well.
Load More Replies...Just because he's in a short sleeve shirt doesn't mean he's not wearing a filter mask. My experience with grinding fibreglass is limited to blueprinting the hull of my old HydroStream outboard racing boat. First day I wore Tyvek coveralls with my filter mask. It was hot, I was sweaty, and the fibreglass dust got in the suit, stuck in every crevice, and itched like mad. That afternoon I called a shop in LA that specializes in restoration of Corvettes, and an old friend who builds fibreglass racing tunnelhulls. Next day I wore jeans, tucked pants into socks, a Tshirt and my mask. Arms etc covered at the end of the day but no irritation. Stripped, rinsed thoroughly with cold water, then normal shower. No itch, no redness, no crabbiness. Did the same for the rest of the project. Fibreglass on the skin isn't toxic and doesn't "soak in". Fibreglass inside the ppe on the sweaty skin, absolute misery. Lesson learned from professionals. Cold water rinse a must to avoid opening the pores.
Load More Replies...That’s awful! Just one splinter from fibre glass in a finger can be painful!
I installed fiberglass insulation for a week once. When I look at this picture, I can feel the itch! My wife would feel it in the sheets, and I wore long sleeves and took a long shower at home too!
As a person whose father worked for Owens Corning for years, I can say Debby Keir is right!
My mother worked in a plastics factory in the late 1950's. Fiberglass would embed into her arms and cause all sorts of medical problems. She finally started wearing hose on her arms for protection. This guy is a complete dingus for not protecting himself.
In the late seventies my mom had a set of lavender colored fiberglass curtains. One night she was having a gathering or some kind of party, and I was sneaking around the edges of the living room. I brushed up against those fiberglass curtains and couldn't stop itching until the next day. I always thought it was an allergy when I was younger. I didn't understand that fiberglass is itchy to everyone. Needless to say my mother also believing it it was an allergy through away those curtains. I remember they were kind of brocade or jacquard
Fiberglass is spun glass, as you know. I cannot believe this is good for your health.
What about your face, mask and safety glasses. . .??? Never heard of OSHA. . .?
Is that not the itchiest thing in the world? I mean, wouldn't that get into the skin? 🤦
seriously hope you are wearing a gasmask or the inside of your lungs will look like that.
Cold water is better for fiberglass in my experience. Hot opens the pores and the fibers get in more
