The perfect lighting, the ideal framing and composition, the right angle and posture, vibrant colors, and of course, some photo editing - that's the secret formula for pitch-perfect Instagram pictures.
These incredible dream-like photos fill our timelines and transport us to a magical world where people live up to the beauty standards every second, eat only healthy vegan food, travel every day, discover new things, and buy expensive branded clothes almost every week. This Instagram influencer world is so perfect that it makes us miserable, full of high expectations, and jealous of others who live these perfect Instagram lives.

"Everybody has tummy fat, it is normal and nothing to be ashamed of. Somehow society has put the idea of beauty in our mind that you just look beautiful if you have a flat tummy. Bullshit! Just because everybody hides their tummy on photos, doesn't mean they don't have tummy fat, so don't be insecure about it. Don't put so much pressure to yourself to look a certain way. You are amazing just the way you are.
By the way, I edited just my hair and face on the left picture NOT MY BODY! This is how the right pose and sucking the tummy in can make a huge difference!"
Why can't we just embrace the tummy! Besides, I think she was prettier in the unedited version.
Because there always has to be an a*****e. I agree, much more attractive in the unedited version.
Load More Replies...And this "editing" is why we have young girls bulimic/anorexic/suicidal.
The real question is why do people "have" to post and/or edit pics of their lives? Is it some sort of insecurity? That they need some validation from random people that they'll never, ever meet? It might just be a generational thing. I know I'm from the pre-internet era (and am going to sound old here) but when you had to wait about a week to get photos developed, you didn't take 20-30 shots just to get the right one. And if you wanted to share that pic with your friends it cost you more to get copies. Also "By the way, I edited just my hair and face on the left picture NOT MY BODY! This is how the right pose and sucking the tummy in can make a huge difference!". Way back then, if you wanted to edit a photo, you either had to do it yourself (almost impossible!) and re-print it or pay a professional photographer to do it. Things need to take a step back. Stop trying to gain self-esteem from randomers. Look to yourself and see how YOU feel and work on it!
However, it is worth noting that the reality behind the Instagram celebrities life always reflect the perfection of the scene. There's no such thing as a perfect world and some people prove that these standards of living are simply... unrealistic. To break these impossible standards, Kim Britt from Switzerland decided to show her followers the ugly truth behind Instagram posts.
"Sorry to disappoint you but in reality winter in Switzerland looks way more like the right picture... The snow stays just for one or two days if you not live up in the mountains and then all you get is snow mud and freezing wind."
"Instagram: What I tell people how I spent Christmas holidays: staying cozy and cuddling.
Reality: How I really felt: Totally exhausted from all that Christmas food. Who feels buddy?"
Why is there such a drastic difference between photos? Judging by the right photo, that pupper doesn't seem to be in the best health..
Actually, in the second one, the dog is just asleep. My dog does the same exact thing, where these weird, second-lid things (I don't know what they're called) come up and over their eyes. It looks scary, but it's normal.
Load More Replies...Looks like he had a blast playing on the sand at a beach and now he'd tuckered out.
In a very hilarious way, she makes side-by-side comparisons of herself that show the same situations in reality and how they would look in a perfect Instagram world. From putting on red lipstick to eating healthy, she shows the honest reality which we all try to hide behind many filters and the right composition!
"Some people are worth melting for, but in reality the melting snow in my hair and face isn't that romantic. My man loves to tease me. Couldn't be mad though! One of my favorite pictures from this year. Can you relate to it?"
what are you talking about? The reality is WAAAAAY better for this one!
"The struggles of being a woman, but it is so worth it to be one and I'm proud I am and you should be too."
it wasn't censored when i read it, now I am coming back three or two days later
Load More Replies...I like how the girl in the Instagram one is shaving already smooth legs. Just like every razor ad ever lol.
I mean stubble? Unless you want her to have werewolf legs. Which I think would be funny in an ad
Load More Replies...Ouch! Fake, I know but I think most people who shave know that feeling!
um, actually this is real. I closed up on it and it was real :/ soo
Load More Replies..."Eat good feel good. In my case, eating good also includes good pasta. I'm so tired of being told what I should eat and what I shouldn't. If my body tells me to eat carbs, then I do, if I wanna eat a salad then I do. As long as you feel good and your health is not harm, you don't need to restrict any food."
My body tells me to eat chocolate and sugar stuffs all the time, so I should listen?
When you try to do a healthy diet but then 5 mins later you're stuffing pizza in your mouth XD.
pasta is my favourite go to food, and I don't mean that microwave ramen stuff (though that is a quick fix) I get the dried stuff and cook it myself, delicious :P
Your body needs carbs its a total lie that carbs are bad, just cut down on sugar and trans fat ( like pies) but love your pasta as part of a healthy routine.
"What should I say, a salad spinner can be used for many things. You just need to be creative!"
"They see us rollin'... and they laughin'. If Buddy sees dad, he runs without thinking what happens with me then."
the second one just looks better no matter what picture you trie compare it to.
I laughed so hard at the second one, I have a german shepherd so I understand that feel
My dog had this magic neck that could slip out of any collar. Choke collar was the only one that saved her from herself
Load More Replies...As a pet sitter, I can attest to this honesty, having been pulled by so many dogs.
And wearing all black---even with a black dog---is dangerous. If there's one single white hair on your dog (or cat, for that matter), it'll find it's way onto your black clothing, then be fruitful and multiply all over it. Same goes for black hairs on white clothing.
"We all come in different shapes in sizes and that's good! It's so easy to pretend to have a "better" body on a picture. If we are relaxed and not posing, the body looks different. That is okay, everybody has this. Don't get brainwashed by all those edited and posed pictures.
The truth is, we might all have parts on us, that we think are not perfect, but guess what, that's something good. We don't need to look "perfect" (by the way, what should perfect look like anyway?). How boring would it be if we would all look the same?
Take care to your body, don't do crash diets and restrict all "bad" food just to look a certain way you see on pictures, which don't always show the truth. Enjoy all types of food in a healthy amount. Listen to your body and let go negatives thoughts about it."
it's the same girl? looks the same, different angle
Load More Replies...She looks amazing in the right-side picture! I adore her for having the confidence to show herself to the world, regardless of what she looks like. As for the pic on the left, I've never trusted someone without a belly button lol
So love handles are totally normal? I can stop trying to get rid f them? :D
Yes they're totally normal and you can stop trying to get rid of them!
Load More Replies...She's gorgeous in the reality pic! I love a woman with "love handles" why would you want to hold onto skin and borns (puke)
bones really? It's muscle not fat on her and not bone
Load More Replies...Right looks better and I gotta say I'm jealous.! All these pictures of women editing to be skinnier or sucking in their gut. My whole life I have had a fast metabolism and have been trying so hard to GAIN weight and I cant. I'm the skin and bone type of body frame and I hate it. I've learned over the years the struggle of never finding a pair of Jean's that fit, or dress pants that don't make it look like I'm wearing a saggy diaper underneath. It sucks. And I try to embrace the body that I was given but to me it embarrassing. The amt of people who ask if I'm anorexic or what kind of diet I'm on to stay so thin. Nobody should want to be this skinny, its unhealthy and unnatural looking
"My fiance knows how to do a good photobomb. A good example how frame matters. Also need to admit that this is a headset and not even a headphone."
Seems like they are both okay with it in reality.
Load More Replies..."Little reminder that 90% of the photos you see on social media or magazines are photoshoped or with face tune optimized. Don't compare yourself to photos there. You never know if it was edited or how long it took to take a good picture. Enjoy your weekend! Letting negative thoughts go and focus on the positive ones. You are worthy anyway!"
People aaalways comment this. “I like the unedited version.” It’s getting a bit old unfortunately. ‘I’m not like the others, I prefer purity, I’m different and have a positive attitude, I don’t like fake stuff, I’m not a fake, please like me.’ Sorry - just had to get this off my chest..
Load More Replies...They're actually the same width apart but because of the airbrushing/smoothing it looks a little bit wider
Load More Replies...Looks like acne. It's not the scars but the stupid nose ring. Looks like she's from one of those tribes from a remote part of the planet.
Load More Replies...This is what humans have been reduced to. She is lovely being genuine
you could tell that her face was made thinner in the first one and her normal face shape looks way better!
I never get these kind of things ; Why do you desperatly want to look that good in a photo, when in real life you're 'less' good looking? Just appreciate how you look, shopping a photo is not making you more beautifull, it's kind of a lie.
"Who looks like that when you sick? When I'm sick, I look like a zombie and don't have the energy to make a cute picture for my profile. Let's be real and face the fact that when you sick, you don't look good and that's totally normal and okay."
Maybe the same ones who apply 15 coats of makeup for their birthing photos.
Load More Replies...Ok but can we talk about that amazingly comfy looking couch, bed, chez lounge she's on in the right pic?
When I'm that sick I can barely pick up the phone to answer it, much less snap selfie
would you clean your house EVEN if YOU were sick? i wouldn't 'cause i would not be able to get up again until my parents come to get me.
Load More Replies..."It's been about 6 years since I last trained on the pole. Honestly, I was super proud I was still able to do this trick. Needless to say that the way up didn't look as good as the end pose."
I am more concerned as to why there is what seems to be a strip pole in a park...
If you Google 'strip poles' there's almost as many responses calling them dance poles or exercise poles as strip poles because many people have realized that many of the moves that good strippers did on them required a lot of muscle action. Thus they realized that if they could modify those moves they could figure out a series of exercises and become more fit. In fact, I've seen gyms offer classes where many if not all of the exercises would be using the poles in some way.
Load More Replies..."Be as bold as your lipstick... But you better make sure you don't have any on your teeth."
Once you've finished putting your lip stick on wrap your lips around your thumb like you're sucking on a straw you don't want to get lip stick on. It wipes off the bit off your lips that your teeth touch, that would stick to your teeth.
Load More Replies...i still dont get lipstick... it's makes u look like u got a bloody mouth.
"Wet hair don't care! Since I was a child, I wash my hair like on the right picture. I know it looks super funny, but I'm sure if you have a bathtub at home, you washed your hair at least once like that. Am I right?"
Grew up with a bathtub and no shower. Washed my hair like this until I was 30 years old.
I have an aunt who doesn't shower, she takes baths and then washes her hair in the sink.
Actually, I used to do it in the kitchen sink. My back would never tolerate bending over that far for long, even when I was in my 20's.
used to wash my ex-wifes long hair in the kitchen sink... much easier.
ex wife oops I guess you didn't do a good job of washing her hair? lol
Load More Replies...I wash my hair in the sink because it's less strain on my back then leaning over a bath tub
"Stay cozy. During the cold holidays staying cozy and chill is a must if you ask me. The thing is just, it looks a lot different on Instagram that reality really is. Who can relate to this?"
In the right one at least you got the dog so that's more cozy than the left one
"I don't know about you, but I enjoy the chocolate today by eating it and not posing with it for a cute photo."
Okay, but the second one is very posed. Like, who gets that much chocolate around their lips when they eat?
That second one looks like German porn. Don't give me that look, you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.
I'm German, and I wish you were wrong. (you aren't.)
Load More Replies..."Today's Happy Meal. I guess the picture speaks for itself. Enjoy your meal!"
And all this time we thought that kids that use social media starve themselves due to the pressure of trying to look like Instamodels but this whole time it's been because instagram has been selling the lie that food is consumed on your mouth rather than in your mouth, YOU ANIMALS!!!
"Wear some flowers in your hair. Reality: They don't tell you how difficult it is to take the flowers out of your hair."
"This bathtub picture is one of my favorite ones from this first year. It's great to see that some people like the message behind my account and I can make you laugh or think about some subjects."
All are staged anyway duh. Anything to be featured as "I'm different"(◔_◔)(◔_◔)
These show two equally staged photos. This is the "I'm not like other girls" equivalent of social media.
Thank you. And she doesn’t even look like a typical Instagram girl in the before pics anyway. That’s not the look and there’s not enough photoshop or style.
Load More Replies...She is obviously very aware that she looks good on both photos, but it's masked as good intention.
Load More Replies...I wouldn't call it hilarious at all. It just shows how pretentious people are these days
And fake, and narcissistic, you forgot those two :)
Load More Replies...By the end of the day, you're still showing off. "My fiancé is so funny and quirky, look at my dog." Still have a good camera, still have above-average looks and take posed-pictures. If you wanna be pretty and show it off, go ahead, but pretending you're showing the reality when you're not is lame and boring.
I am glad I'm not on instagram. I don't know of anyone who'd want to see this many pics of me!
I totally agree.. wish I could upvote this more.. I was talking about nobody wanting to see me not you KCN, just posted and realized this could seem offensive..😑😑
Load More Replies...I am so over the whole perfectly placed throw on bed with breakfast on bed and the lights string. F**k right off with that s**t
Social media can be such a bizarre place. It makes me sad that people seek their validation from being "perfect" on social media. People are beautiful because of the quirks and imperfections that make them unique, not because they look like some weird celeb-culture idea of "beauty".
