That Went From Horrifying To Unexpected Perk Rather Quickly
Gosh. That’s better than the reason I had to tell friends and family who stayed over to keep the bedroom door closed. My girl 🐈⬛ Smoke, was generally very good about using the litter box but she was also very territorial. When “strangers” stayed in the spare bedroom she would pee on the bed to reclaim “her” territory. So, yeah, always keep the door shut!
i feel for kevin, i would cuddle with him. hope he’s doing well.
My Hotel View. It's Actually Nice To Have Quiet Neighbors
Do you know how many people are buried there? All of them. A true Dad joke, may my dear Dad rest in peace.
Heh. I'd recognize my home town anywhere. Even if it's the cemetery. XD In case you're wondering, this is the most likely place: 46°45'52.6"N 23°35'26.4"E
Growing up I could see my great grandpas grave from my bedroom. i learned to ride a bike and drive in that cemetery. not scary at all.
Load More Replies...Cemeteries are the best neighbors. They never bother you, they are quiet, they never complain about anything you do, and when someone moves in they come in a box.
For 8 1/2 years my husband and I lived in an apartment on the second floor of a house and when I looked out the bedroom window there was a huge cemetery there. I could walk in the yard and reach over the 4 ft fence and touch a tombstone. It didn't bother me. I like cemeteries....what I can't stand are funeral homes.

Bored Panda got in touch with veteran traveler Monica Stott and she was kind enough to share some of her experience with us. First and foremost, we wanted to hear what advice she would give her younger self in regards to traveling.
“You don’t need all that stuff! Find your favorite travel outfit and stick with it and forget about all the ‘just in case’ items. You never need them. But pay for extra cloud storage and backup your photos and videos. Those photos are priceless, look after them,” she added, and for good reason, every single country in the world has something beautiful to capture.
TV In My Hotel
Why would they label it "secret camera'? Such an obvious set up or joke.
It is. The title from the OP's post on Reddit is "TIL you can change a hotel TVs welcome message."
Load More Replies...The caption here is wrong, this is from the funny subreddit and it says, "TIL you can change the welcome message"
Why would an AirBNB host even JOKE about having a hidden camera (apparently the OP title mentioned changing a TV’s welcome message)?
I Found A Pair Of Handcuffs Attached To A Leg Of The Bed In My Airbnb In Tijuana
It's *probably* just a normal kinky sex thing. People are a lot more likely to accidentally leave evidence of that in their vacation accommodations, than evidence of a serious crime.

There’s a metal strip under the leg that looks to be bigger than the gap of the handcuffs.

AC Wasn't Cooling Effectively In My New Hostel Room. Maintenance People Didn't Respond, So I Decided To Take A Look Myself. This Is The Filter
That same thing happened to me last year in an apartment in Bucurest from Booking! Never thought i'll see it again.
Maybe they think it's some calendar and scrape of one square every four years. Lol.
They Said That Hotel Includes A "Private Balcony". It's Just A View Of The Wall Of The Next Building
Is it wrong that I like this? Nice outdoor area, probably pretty quiet, fresh air...
Load More Replies...I think I'd actually like this. Not as much as an actual balcony, of course; but if the hotel had been upfront, I wouldn't have minded having this as an extra chill spot.
Well, they did not lie. Btw, is'tit illegal for buildings to be this close? There should be distance, at least a few meters
It's called a zero lot line. A fire wall would have to be put up. That's why it's got a concrete skim coat over perhaps block wall.
Load More Replies...It probably was a nice balcony when the building went up in the late 1800's to early 1900's. Then a "modern" building was wedged in next door with zero lot line cuz "progress." BTW, the chairs are hideous.
Private as in personal prison. Prisoners get more sunlight than for gods sakes.
My Airbnb Host Said: "The Lock Box Is Near The White Door. It Is Silver With Black Plastic"
Somebody is going to bungle the burgle badly.
Load More Replies...Wow, this is bad! Think about it, all these keyboxes are for individual apartment in this building which are on Airbnb or likes. This is how locals get priced out of their own city. With the atrocious pricing on Airbnb, just go stay in a hotel.
“If we lived in a perfect world then we’d all have plenty of time and plenty of money and we’d be free to make the choice about which is most important to us. But we don’t live in a perfect world and it’s not normally a choice. Some of us have one or the other, most of us don’t have enough of either!”
The Running Hot Water At My $550/Night Hotel Room In Paris
Paris has old plumbing, so if there was an intervention on the street it's very likely to have ground/rust during the first 5-10 minutes. Edit : yes, plumbery, like I definitely needed coffee and glasses this morning :)
Old rusty pipes in an old building. Run the tap for a minute and should clear.
Might be after repair of a leakage. Let it run for 5 minutes and it is okay, probably. Context is omitting. What did the hotel say?
Load More Replies...Could be a water main break somewhere. This happens quite often enough in my city. Just run the water from all taps for a bit until it clears
I Found This Camera In My Vacation Rental
That is one reason why I will never do AirBnB: there are too many instances of people discovering hidden camera's or having to pay extortionate so-called "cleaning fees". Also, the prices aren't that different from hotel-prices anymore and you have to do everything yourself. No, I'm going to stay in a hotel and have my every whim catered too (not that I have that many, but it's nice to indulge every once in a while, you see, ha ha).
I booked an AirBnB pre-pandemic, had to cancel cuz, duh, and it was a gorgeous apartment in a big city for $200 a night, cleaning fees and parking included. haven't been able to find anything comparable since. We are back to booking hotels through them on the phone. i use hotels.com for price comparison but call Hilton or Marriot directly to book. I get better deals and free upgrades when available. The Valet smashed my car and didn't report it. Marriot took care of it, no real hassle. It was time consuming but they didn't fight it.

“Just remember that nothing has to be forever. You might prioritize time at one stage of your life (perhaps when your children are little) and then prioritize money for a while (perhaps in your 50s so you can retire young). I Was Staying At A Hotel In Canada. They Were Doing Construction And Didn't Bother To Put Any Signs, So This Morning, I Fell Down 3 Feet
I smell a lie. This one's come up before on the 'net lots of times. The whole place is under construction and the entire lot was being redone, including new stairs and stuff. Those doors are locked on the inside, specifically to stop anyone from using them.
Load More Replies...Unless blind I don't see how one could miss there is nothing on other side of the doors.

What did you expect from a first floor room? Normally if you have a room on the first floor you are going to see the parking lot and vehicles parked outside the hotel/motel rooms.
This is very uncommon for UK hotels! Even the worst ones like a Travelodge near an airport aren’t this bad!

My Airbnb Assured Me They Have A "Very Safe" Baby Gate

The Staircase At My Hotel Room Just Drops Off
The name of the hotel is literally "Hotel Scalinata", meaning "Hotel Stairway" (it's located in Rome, close to the Spanish Steps)
Jokes apart, this is an apartment in an historical building, built in the 1700s over the remains of a roman villa. This kind of stair connections were quite common in buildings from that period, and have an exemption from some common building codes due to being impossible to bring up to code while preserving the historical value of the building.
Load More Replies...In an historical building in Rome? As an Italian, I can tell you it would never happen. Try to file a lawsuit for a thing like this in Italy, even your own lawyer would laugh in your face.
Load More Replies...LOL, before I read Jrog's comment, I thought, this looks like an old hotel in Rome. We stayed in a similar place that had weird little 2/3 height doors into weird little secondary corridors that finally let into comfortable rooms. They gave us SEVEN keys to get in, what with all the old metal gates, some huge ancient doors (with locks that were decidedly trickey), little short doors. . .
Staircases like this make me think "Movers won't put up with this, so neither will I."

First Day Of Vacation And Our Half Of The Hotel Doesn't Have Power. Guess Who Might Be Going Home Early

Notice To Airbnb Guests
In the US, perhaps. More importantly, do your own due diligence, look for previous reviews , make sure you understand and are happy with all charges and rules, and remember that if the rule is not stated in the listing then they cannot enforce it or make you pay extra fro breaching it.

This is way past ridiculous. No use of the kitchen? Would the host prefer four days' worth of takeaway wrappers?
Just more reasons to stay in a hotel. There's now some higher end hotels that have kitchenettes, not like the Travelodges. I have IBS and some other food intolerances so eating out isn't always an option. It ends up cheaper in the long run. Also I take my own TP when we go out of town. I just throw it in my toiletry bag when we leave for the day. I love my Charmin!
I would be more concern about only toilet paper beig supplied on the first day of your stay. What happen if you had a long stay and ran out of toilet paper. Would the owner supply more toilet paper? They should.
I don’t ever use toilet 🚽 paper, sooo…no big problem for me!!!!
Load More Replies...Isn't this known before booking? I have no experience with AirBnB, only with hotels or Scandinavian and Dutch holiday homes, rented from small local offices.
Should be, but in the US some unscrupulous Airbnb 'hosts' have been known to add lots of petty rules and charge people for breaking them. Having facilities shown in the property listing but then not being allowed clearly breaches Airbnb T&Cs. As a host myself I hate to see this sort of thing but thankfully it doesn't seem to happen in Europe.

That's an attic access. The roof of part of the building is lower, and there's an attic with a floor at the bottom of that door. The door is there to let them in the attic for maintenance, not sure if the high handle has a purpose or if it's just that they cut the top off a regular door (often these doors are short because the attic isn't full height, I'd need a banana for scale to know for sure).

Hotels Should Make Blinds Useful Again
This would drive me crazy. I want my hotel room dark until I open the curtains/blinds.
Is anyone else looking at the waist high showerhead on the right? What is that thing?
I would like to know what the metal thing on the wall is??? and I would demand extra blankets.... and deliberately leave them hanging over the blinds! Safety pins are a must in your dopp bag when you travel.
Not only would our blinds not completely close (just had to pull them to the one side since we were luckily the last room) but the room next door was offset inwards and we could see them at night in the reflection on our window!! No idea if they could see us since i made sure to keep the curtains closed and not walk around naked.

Also, in 45% of the EU listings cleaning is included in the price of the night stay. In some EU countries (such as Norway) Airbnb has been prohibited to list service and cleaning fees as separate items after consumer protection authorities complained to the European Commission about the company's unfair practices.

This happens all the time in hotels. Weddings, conferences, etc., everyone comes in at the same time to check in. If you come back in an hour the place would be empty. Hard to schedule employees to come in for 1-3 hours, they don't like it that much. Sometimes, you just have to wait.

At least you don't have to repaint the rooms and put down some new insulation in the attic.
I wouldn't be surprised if they demand a cleaning fee on top of having you clean yourself before leaving. 🙃
Load More Replies...Honestly, other than putting a wash load on, this is how I leave any airbnb I stay at anyway. We always have a thorough tidy up before leaving.
Was just about to say this. Any place I stay at, I try to leave it looking the way I found it minus used linens/towels put in a designated spot.
Load More Replies...The only time I stayed in an AirBnB the checkout instructions were "Please makes sure the door is locked and return key to the safe". That's it. I feel like maybe i was blessed?
Hah! For mine it's usually just 'leave the key on the inside of the door where you found it. (In a small Swiss village, for reference).
Load More Replies...I wouldn't want guests putting on the laundry, but apart from that these are not unreasonable. I never post rules but most guests would do those things as a matter of courtesy, and yes, it is quite annoying when people leave dirty dishes and rubbish in the bins.
And they still have the gall to charge a cleaning fee and ask for a tip.
I stayed in one that did not have trash removal! They expected us to take it with us!!
This Hotel Elevator Won't Let Me Go Down
Those might be those kind of buttons that you can twist if that makes sense? Like, you can flip them with two fingers
Those are just call buttons. The elevator will in fact let you go down. In a full control system, elevator landing panels will have two buttons with Up and Down directions, a passenger who wants to travel up will press Up direction button, so lift while moving up will stop and passenger who wants to travel down will press Down direction button, so lift will stop while moving down.

It would have taken quite a bit less effort to just trim the towel bar to be shorter.
Yes, because you want the metal bar holding your shower towel to be as close as possible to electrical outlets. Like right up in them is the best situation.

Load More Replies...Is This Mold Caused By Water Infiltration? Found In An Airbnb, Unsure Whether Or Not To Report
Yes. either it's a rotten window frame leaking through or condensation on the inside (which will soon lead to a rotten window frame). Either way it's causing mould and should be urgently addressed.
Look at the floor boards. They're coming up a bit. There is water infiltrating under this window or door from an improper or failed seal.
Load More Replies...Most definitely report them. Probably the owners already know about it, but I still would inform them.
This Shower That Doesn't Have A Door And Gets The Floor Soaked
I had that happen once when I was put in an ADA room with a roll-in shower, but this one has a tiny step up into the shower, so there's no excuse.
Same here. It made a massive mess! And the shower curtain kept sticking to me - it sucked.
Load More Replies...Just stayed, second time, in a newly remodeled Marriot and it had a similar shower. every time we showered the floor flooded but the toilet was next to the shower so we used all the towels to keep our feet dry to pee.
Me And My Wife Stayed In This Room Where One Of Those Doors Conjoins With The Neighboring Room. The Little Kids Who Were There Kept Trying To Open It To Our Room The Whole Night
I would have loaded some spooky chain an rattle noises on YouTube an played it at the door late at night to scare the s**t kids.
My MOH and I stayed in a hotel scoping out venues and the adjoins room was occupied by two guys from China that kept playing with the doors. We weren't scared. She traveled a lot for work and I had a lot of experience with travelers from China in this location so it was normal at that time for them to be a little giddy while on vacation. I have lots of stories.
Were you the ones in the next room with the kids?

To The Guy Saying His Airbnb Had A Sink Too Close To The Toilet… I Wanted To Welcome Myself To The Club
You know, you could also just take a picture of the sink and the toilet from a profile view and we could skip seeing where your boys reside.
Some people must have huge bathrooms at home because I don't see the sink being close to the toilet as a particularly peculiar thing.
I suppose it depends on where you're from. In the US, small bathrooms generally follow a lineup on one wall. From the door is the sink, then toilet, and against the far wall is the tub and/or shower.

I've seen these kinds of sinks way too often. They're usually really short too (I'm 6 ft) so I have to bend down :/
In the UK, where separate taps for hot and cold exist, it used to be the case that you would put the plug in, get some hot water into the sink, fill up a little with cold to make it usable and then wash your hands. I assume you would use this sink in the same manner rather than use the water as it comes out of the tap ie put the plug in first..

A Monkey Broke Into My Friend's Hotel Room Next To Mine By Opening A Very Heavy Balcony Door, Which Was Closed But Not Locked
Apparently, the monkey emptied two tubes of powdered Celsius I had given my friend, so there's an insane macaque hopped up on Celsius.
This is not on the hotel or Airbnb owners. If you visit a place with monkeys as part of the wildlife, CLOSE EVERYTHING. Those monkeys know the hotel better than you, so lock all doors and windows. I've stayed in a hotel in Koh Chang, a Thai island, and one day the wild monkeys got in and stole a bowl of bananas. It should be written out on a sign, but this should just be common knowledge if you're travelling around SE Asia, like don't bring durian into rooms
Can someone please explain to this middle-aged person what Celsius is in this context?
Not sure what "two tubes of powdered Celsius" means, but as an American, I'm imagining an insane macaque hopped up on 3.8 tubes of Farenheit. (or is that 35.8 tubes... do you include 32 in the conversion or not?)
Macaques are mcfarkers. Avoid if possible. They’re really horrible little buggas.
hey, i am confident they had signs warning of monkeys and to lock everything...at least they do in asia...your own stupidity.
One zoo let visitors walk through monkey enclosure. There's warning that they should hide all jewelry and phones, because monkey might stole it. Also, no touching or feeding monkeys. There was lady, who had kid in stroller. Kid ate biscuits, so she hidden biscuits in stroller bag. But one of lemurs had the audacity to jump into stroller and steal biscuits anyway. Nobody was harmed, but kid cried.
