Gosh. That’s better than the reason I had to tell friends and family who stayed over to keep the bedroom door closed. My girl 🐈‍⬛ Smoke, was generally very good about using the litter box but she was also very territorial. When “strangers” stayed in the spare bedroom she would pee on the bed to reclaim “her” territory. So, yeah, always keep the door shut!

Cemeteries are the best neighbors. They never bother you, they are quiet, they never complain about anything you do, and when someone moves in they come in a box.

For 8 1/2 years my husband and I lived in an apartment on the second floor of a house and when I looked out the bedroom window there was a huge cemetery there. I could walk in the yard and reach over the 4 ft fence and touch a tombstone. It didn't bother me. I like cemeteries....what I can't stand are funeral homes.

Bored Panda got in touch with veteran traveler Monica Stott and she was kind enough to share some of her experience with us. First and foremost, we wanted to hear what advice she would give her younger self in regards to traveling.

“You don’t need all that stuff! Find your favorite travel outfit and stick with it and forget about all the ‘just in case’ items. You never need them. But pay for extra cloud storage and backup your photos and videos. Those photos are priceless, look after them,” she added, and for good reason, every single country in the world has something beautiful to capture.

This is typical in even "nicer" hotels. They never think to clean/replace these filters. The first thing I do when I enter a hotel room is check the air filter, usually end up taking it to the shower to clean it. If it's very dirty, like this one, I inform the management.

It probably was a nice balcony when the building went up in the late 1800's to early 1900's. Then a "modern" building was wedged in next door with zero lot line cuz "progress." BTW, the chairs are hideous.

That is one reason why I will never do AirBnB: there are too many instances of people discovering hidden camera's or having to pay extortionate so-called "cleaning fees". Also, the prices aren't that different from hotel-prices anymore and you have to do everything yourself. No, I'm going to stay in a hotel and have my every whim catered too (not that I have that many, but it's nice to indulge every once in a while, you see, ha ha).

I booked an AirBnB pre-pandemic, had to cancel cuz, duh, and it was a gorgeous apartment in a big city for $200 a night, cleaning fees and parking included. haven't been able to find anything comparable since. We are back to booking hotels through them on the phone. i use hotels.com for price comparison but call Hilton or Marriot directly to book. I get better deals and free upgrades when available. The Valet smashed my car and didn't report it. Marriot took care of it, no real hassle. It was time consuming but they didn't fight it.

I smell a lie. This one's come up before on the 'net lots of times. The whole place is under construction and the entire lot was being redone, including new stairs and stuff. Those doors are locked on the inside, specifically to stop anyone from using them.

Jokes apart, this is an apartment in an historical building, built in the 1700s over the remains of a roman villa. This kind of stair connections were quite common in buildings from that period, and have an exemption from some common building codes due to being impossible to bring up to code while preserving the historical value of the building.

LOL, before I read Jrog's comment, I thought, this looks like an old hotel in Rome. We stayed in a similar place that had weird little 2/3 height doors into weird little secondary corridors that finally let into comfortable rooms. They gave us SEVEN keys to get in, what with all the old metal gates, some huge ancient doors (with locks that were decidedly trickey), little short doors. . .

In the US, perhaps. More importantly, do your own due diligence, look for previous reviews , make sure you understand and are happy with all charges and rules, and remember that if the rule is not stated in the listing then they cannot enforce it or make you pay extra fro breaching it.

Just more reasons to stay in a hotel. There's now some higher end hotels that have kitchenettes, not like the Travelodges. I have IBS and some other food intolerances so eating out isn't always an option. It ends up cheaper in the long run. Also I take my own TP when we go out of town. I just throw it in my toiletry bag when we leave for the day. I love my Charmin!

Should be, but in the US some unscrupulous Airbnb 'hosts' have been known to add lots of petty rules and charge people for breaking them. Having facilities shown in the property listing but then not being allowed clearly breaches Airbnb T&Cs. As a host myself I hate to see this sort of thing but thankfully it doesn't seem to happen in Europe.

It is supposed to make the room bigger and bring more natural light to the bathroom. But I still don't get the "Why", even after having stayed in such a room.

That's an attic access. The roof of part of the building is lower, and there's an attic with a floor at the bottom of that door. The door is there to let them in the attic for maintenance, not sure if the high handle has a purpose or if it's just that they cut the top off a regular door (often these doors are short because the attic isn't full height, I'd need a banana for scale to know for sure).

I had people in the shipping terminal in Honolulu take my car for a joyride down in Waikiki. This was in 2008 and I had a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Spyder Sport (convertible). They put 10 miles on my car that had less than 0.2 of a tank of gas (had to have a minimum for shipping), put pen marks on leather dashboard, and a scrape on the side. They had to give me gas in California and gave me $300 for detailing my car. I hate having ro trust people with my car.

i have used valet parking at least 75 times between hotels, restaraunts and hospitals in the last 30 years. i have only had 1 issue and that was last year and the hotel made good on the repairs. i've had more damage done by uninsured drivers and hail storms in the last 35 years.

Not only would our blinds not completely close (just had to pull them to the one side since we were luckily the last room) but the room next door was offset inwards and we could see them at night in the reflection on our window!! No idea if they could see us since i made sure to keep the curtains closed and not walk around naked.

Bad communication, but it clearly means do not plug an air drier in the outlet clearly marked "Shavers only". Those appliances are rated for a couple hundred watts, while an hair dryer goes easily into the 2000s. You are of course welcome to use the provided hair dryer, that has a properly connected inbuilt cable.

Never rent an European holiday home, then. The cleaning fee is the same amount, no matter if you stay two nights or three weeks. In most cases you are allowed to skip it and do the work yourself, though. However, if the person checking your work or the next guest have reason to complain, you will have to pay. Service fee is a one-off, too, and therefore cannot be included in the rates per night.

Never ever seen a holiday home charging 300% of the stay cost as cleaning and service fees. According to data published by Airbnb a couple years ago, the average cleaning fee in the USA is two to three times higher than the in Europe. Also, in 45% of the EU listings cleaning is included in the price of the night stay. In some EU countries (such as Norway) Airbnb has been prohibited to list service and cleaning fees as separate items after consumer protection authorities complained to the European Commission about the company's unfair practices.

This is one is just trying to pick something to complain! Complaining that the hotel does not provide a step stool in bathrooms is..... can't find a decent word! I never stayed in a hotel that provided step stools in bathrooms! And I bet they would provide one instead of complaining on the internet... Plus, 5'2" isn't that tall, so the mirror is decently placed!

Apparently, Not Only My Room Wasn't Ready

On vacation with my kid, I went to check in at 2:30, and my hotel asked that I come back in an hour to pick up my key card because my room wasn't ready yet. Later, I came back to a long line with 100 more people behind me. They had only one single working bathroom and no water.

This happens all the time in hotels. Weddings, conferences, etc., everyone comes in at the same time to check in. If you come back in an hour the place would be empty. Hard to schedule employees to come in for 1-3 hours, they don't like it that much. Sometimes, you just have to wait.

Reminds me of the worst work day in my life. I got a call from the hotel where I usually worked as a waitress, there was an emergency and they needed help cleaning the hotel rooms. I foolishly agreed to help. All ordinary staff had called in sick and it was me and one other kid that worked with the cleaning. None of us had done the job before and we got minimal instructions. I went in at 7am and went home at 10pm. We worked as crazy and we still didn't manage to clean all rooms. The guests that had to wait for their rooms were furious.

Similar (if shorter) lines happen all the time where I work. A shuttle load of people comes in, they all go straight to check in. The front desk people can only check them in so fast. I mean, yeah, lines are annoying but I’d go grab a drink or a bite and come back.

I wouldn't want guests putting on the laundry, but apart from that these are not unreasonable. I never post rules but most guests would do those things as a matter of courtesy, and yes, it is quite annoying when people leave dirty dishes and rubbish in the bins.

Those are just call buttons. The elevator will in fact let you go down. In a full control system, elevator landing panels will have two buttons with Up and Down directions, a passenger who wants to travel up will press Up direction button, so lift while moving up will stop and passenger who wants to travel down will press Down direction button, so lift will stop while moving down.

Yes. either it's a rotten window frame leaking through or condensation on the inside (which will soon lead to a rotten window frame). Either way it's causing mould and should be urgently addressed.

This could be just air, if this ever happens just shake the container/bottle. If it's just air from the pipes it should clear right up.

I suppose it depends on where you're from. In the US, small bathrooms generally follow a lineup on one wall. From the door is the sink, then toilet, and against the far wall is the tub and/or shower.

In the UK, where separate taps for hot and cold exist, it used to be the case that you would put the plug in, get some hot water into the sink, fill up a little with cold to make it usable and then wash your hands. I assume you would use this sink in the same manner rather than use the water as it comes out of the tap ie put the plug in first..

This is not on the hotel or Airbnb owners. If you visit a place with monkeys as part of the wildlife, CLOSE EVERYTHING. Those monkeys know the hotel better than you, so lock all doors and windows. I've stayed in a hotel in Koh Chang, a Thai island, and one day the wild monkeys got in and stole a bowl of bananas. It should be written out on a sign, but this should just be common knowledge if you're travelling around SE Asia, like don't bring durian into rooms

Not sure what "two tubes of powdered Celsius" means, but as an American, I'm imagining an insane macaque hopped up on 3.8 tubes of Farenheit. (or is that 35.8 tubes... do you include 32 in the conversion or not?)

One zoo let visitors walk through monkey enclosure. There's warning that they should hide all jewelry and phones, because monkey might stole it. Also, no touching or feeding monkeys. There was lady, who had kid in stroller. Kid ate biscuits, so she hidden biscuits in stroller bag. But one of lemurs had the audacity to jump into stroller and steal biscuits anyway. Nobody was harmed, but kid cried.

Sea view or see view, cuz technically you can see a view.

This is what "sea view" means, though. If you wanted to be right on the water you would have needed to search for places that say "water/beach/ocean/sea FRONT"

I don't know why these people are complaining. I stayed at a hotel in Seattle for a conference. We were given the Waterview, in fact, we were about ON the water. Overnight a ship docked next door and our view became the wide, white, expansive bottom of the ship. At least these people have sky.

Why the need to take your PS5 to the motel with you? Can people not go a day or two without? Read a book.

I honestly wouldn’t keep replacing them either as people don’t care about the property of others and too many people are uneducated on the dangers of using cookware in this condition. Got my dad’s new pans for Christmas as all of his looked like this. By February two were cut into.

Cheap pans and careless guests do not make for a good combination. No excuse though, and that one on the right has clearly been well used, and abused, judging by the built-up burnt-on grime round the edged and on the handle.

Reminds me of Steve Martin's scene in "LA Story" / Harris: "First stop is six blocks from here." Sara: "Why don't we walk?" Harris: "Walk? A walk in L.A.?!?"
