It seems like there’s an irresistible gravitational pull that draws us to scissors. I mean, we all know very well what the quarantine haircut is. If you’re one of the few lucky ones who hasn’t experienced it (just yet), check out our previous post on people doing their hair in the lockdown. Spoilers: it ended badly.
But this time, the dogs are taking the hit. Because people have somehow come to the conclusion that giving funny dog haircuts to their four-legged friends at home is a must-do. “I don’t think he’ll ever trust a human again,” one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote about his mom’s decision to “try grooming the dog.” Don’t tell me you didn’t see this dog grooming fail coming.
Let’s take a look at our selection of some of the funny dog haircut pics down below. If you’re still considering becoming a first-time groomer yourself, think again, and then, think once more.

Not so bad - Although I prefer the fluffier version. But I'm guessing there are a lot of tangels hidden inside taht fur.

The Most Common Mistakes of At-home Dog Grooming
Not even a global lockdown can stop people from giving bad dog haircuts. That fact alone gets the owner in closer proximity to his four-legged companion, which may not be dangerous per se since there’s no solid evidence it can be transmitted between species.
Bored Panda contacted Hayley Byrne-Ingle, a groomer at The Kennel Club, to find out things you should know before falling down the pit of funny dog grooming mishaps. Hayley urges people to remember that “a lot can go wrong without the correct training” and “clippers or scissors on a moving target is not as easy as most people think!”
The most common mistake people make when grooming at home is “reaching straight for the clippers used for human hair,” Hayley told us. “These clippers usually have one very short blade and used on dogs will take their coat very short!” she explained.

Another common mistake that often leads to hilariously funny dog haircuts is bathing your dog at home without brushing prior. “A lot of dogs now will be getting long and smelly and it’s very tempting to bathe them,” but this is a big mistake, warns Hayley. “Bathing without brushing can lead to matting of the coat as a small single knot when water is added can form a layer of mats.”
The professional groomer recommends letting the pros do their job. When grooming your dog at home, there’s a great chance of injuries that “can leave your dog with a bad experience.” She suggests investing in a good brush, which will also help you to bond with your furry friend.
Unexpected Casualties
I used to give my old lady maine c**n a lion cut whenever her fur got too long and shaggy. She was getting too old and crotchety to be able to groom herself adequately. :)
Miss That Fluffy Boy. I Want His Fur Back
Still adorable though! At least he is wearing his smile...
He looks pretty happy about it. It was probably getting too hot out for all that hair.
Why would anyone even cut his fur? He's beautiful with the longer fur and really it wasn't very long anyway.
A Trim
"Shame Shame Shame!!" Poor doggie. Has to remember this mistake as it gets cold. Where's summer when you need it?
The Centers for Disease Control And Prevention reports that “some coronaviruses that infect animals can sometimes be spread to humans and then spread between people, but it’s rare.” The current outbreak likely started from an animal source, but the exact source of the virus is unknown.
The first animal case that tested positive for the virus was a tiger with a respiratory illness at a zoo in New York City. Nevertheless, “Based on the limited information available to date, the risk of animals spreading COVID-19 to people is considered to be low.”
However, for now, let’s return to the funny dog haircuts still on this list. Don’t forget to vote for the dogs you think deserve the most sympathy, and if you’ve documented your dog grooming fails, share them with us in the comments!
Quarantine Haircuts 2020
This is quite acceptable, please give some credit for this amazing lion cut.. 🐕🦁💇♀️
Jerry Clower told this story about Newgene Ledbetter, and a dog that got a lion cut, too. “My cousin, Newgene, was one of the meanest young'uns this side of the Mississippi! He was one of the biggest liars, too. One day, Uncle Versy sent Newgene out to do his chores. Our neighbor down the road had a big collie dog. Every year he would take a set of sheep shears and shave that collie dog down and leave nothin' but a ring of hair around his neck, and a little tuft of hair around the end of his tail. When Newgene went outside to do his chores, he saw that ole collie dog in our yard and ran back in the house and commenced to whoopin 'and hollerin' “Lion in the yard!! LION!!! He’s gon' get us! LION in the yard!!” Just then Uncle Versy looked out, and saw it was just that ol' collie dog. He turned to Newgene and said “Boy! What I tell you 'bout lyin'?? I done beat you and I done whooped you! You get on up-stars and talk to God for 30 minutes, and if you feel as if God has sufficiently forgiven you after that, I won't whoop you.” 'bout 30 minutes later Newgene come on back down and Uncle Versy asked him “Do you feel as if God has sufficiently forgiven you?” Newgene said “Oh, yeah. As a matter of fact, God told me when he first saw that collie dog, he thought it was a lion, too!!”

Dogs has fur not withought reason. They need it to protect them. This poor dog has naked skin now - it's bad for his health. Silly people.
i think it looks worse than it is, you can see some tiny fluff left on that pink skin, so it's not completely naked and probably gets even better in few days or so

No clippers or dogs shouldn't these people have. All these dogs needed were a good brushing and bath. A long hair dog should be brushed every day. I had a Shih Tzu, she was brushed at least 4 times a week.

My mom did the top half like that. Just half of the face/head, then just slowly moved down the front of the head/neck. Then she kinda half-assed the rest of him in the front yard, so now he's shaggy and looks like he has a mild form of pre-mange, and there's 40lbs of poodle hair sprinkled around our flowerbed because it's stinky and we're hoping it'll keep the bunnies out of it.
Im going to guess this poodle was in a show clip with shaved bum before this clip. It’s very difficult to make the switch between show clip too pet clip unless you grow out the shaved bum/legs first, but their hair grows so fast that this sort of awkward stage will only last a couple of weeks. Alot of show poodle owners decided to clip short this year as its a lot of work caring for show coat and not really worth it When all the shows have been cancelled! Even if this poodle wasn’t in show clip before, this is almost a historical continental clip, just a very short example! It’s also a million times better than some of the poodles I’ve seen after a visit too “professional” groomers! Hell when I look back at my 1st attempts at grooming, it was a bit rough round the edges, but the only way you improve is through practice! It’s just important that you learn how to safely use clippers/scissors before going near a dog so it isn’t left with cuts, clipper burn etc and always helps to have read detailed explanations of clips, so you know how to adapt that clip to yours dogs conformation, as that is often the thing that makes a clip look dreadful!
I’m So Sorry Baby. Dog Grooming Will Be Left To The Professionals Only From Here On Out
I think spitz-type dogs only need to be brushed frequently when shedding... and a shampoo when they've rolled in much.

Did they just put the trimmers on the fur and then pull away? It doesn't even look like they were trying to cut it.. it looks like they just wanted to mark it with the trimmers.
but i would love to see a before pic im sure he/she was so floofy before
🤣 it’s so funny but also quite sad ...I wish someone could explain to me why groomers can’t work! If a vet can have safe hand overs.. why can groomers ! Delivery of your pet could be AT a distance using markers outside the door, a post for a tie up or place to leave a dog cage, card payments and a pickup time or phone call to owner waiting in a car🤷♀️ most use antibacterial washes and use good hygiene standards... or we wouldn’t take our precious pets back!! These poor dogs are really suffering in this heat ... plus some get so badly matted, it’s such a shame this ban can’t be lifted For groomers , spec as Garden centres are now being opened 🤷♀️Where’s the logic🤷♀️
Groomers have been open at least mine was! They just don't do mobile services!

A bit of advice from a former groomer's assistant. If you want to clip your dogs hair at home, do not use clippers unless they specifically say "For grooming animals." Dog hair is different from human hair in fineness and strength. Using human clippers on a dog can actually seize the clippers quite quickly. And I suggest doing the largest guard on the clippers first. You can always trim more off long hair. But you can't put it back if you cut it to short. And if you don't want to trim their nails...take them for lots of walks on concrete pathways. The concrete will actually wear down the nails naturally. It also gets you out of the house for a while..so win win....
Oh..and one last note...don't ever clip the dogs when they're wet. The dogs and the clippers will pay dearly for it. If you can, clip the dogs first..then bathe them. After they dry, you can hand trim the feet, head and tail, but make sure the dog stays calm. It's very easy for an excited dog to get injured by scissors when you're trimming the fine areas. Maybe have someone in front of them, giving them treats like bits of chicken or peanut butter on a spoon so they will be distracted. If they're focused on food, they won't care that you're trimming them.
Load More Replies...It's sad to see "double layers of fur" breeds shaved. They need their hair to keep them cool. People don't break their double glazing windows on summer, it keep the house cool, then it's the same for double layers fur. My dog is a finish lapphund with a lot of hair and he likes to go to our beach cabin, he's never too hot; the outside fur is sometimes hot then when you touch the skin under the layers of fur it's very fresh. My late american staffordshire terrier on the contrary was not made to cope with warmth. It's a shame to remove the fur that protect the dog when they have 2 layers, it's like breaking double glazing windows.
My Schipperkes had a double coat. It was raining and I slide my hand up the fur. The top coat was wet; the under court was warm and dry. I refused to have them clipped. That would not have gone well; even with a professional They are an attitude dog.
Load More Replies...For Godssake, people, stop shearing dogs that aren't meant to be sheared. You are destroying all protective properties of th fur. And, no, unles you brush out the undercoat daily, it does NOT grow back the way it's supposed to be. It's really easy: Double coat? No shearing. Use a furminator to get rid of dead undercoat, maybe cut long hair between toes but leave the rest be. And, yes, that includes Pomeranians! If you are too lazy to brush your dog, get a dachshund or similar.
You still have to brush Dachshunds. If you don't, they molt all over the place.
Load More Replies...I've only ever had farm dogs. Do these dogs really need a haircut? It it because you live somewhere hot?
Some breeds, like poodles and poodle crosses, genuinely do need regular grooming to maintain their coats. Poodle hair grows continuously, just like people hair, and the texture of it makes it prone to matting. It is possible to maintain a poodle with a long coat, but it requires A LOT of bathing, conditioning and brushing to keep it from becoming a painfully matted mess. Most people don't have that kind of time, patience or energy. Double coated dogs, like golden retrievers really shouldn't be shaved because their hair is naturally designed to keep them cool during hot weather. But a lot of people shave them anyway to cut down on the shedding. I admit to doing this once with my lab/Pyrenees mix. He looked adorable with his haircut, but he was so embarrassed by it, I promised him I'd never do it again.
Load More Replies...Sorry, gonna give this a downvote. There's no way that many people can be that inept. I think some of them are just doing it for the laffs.
I'm not a dog owner but what the owners have done to their dogs is criminal, IMO is just give the dog a bath and that's all.
Poodle mix dogs NEED to be clipped regularly. They have hair rather than fur, meaning that it just keeps growing. If it gets too long, it's very prone to getting matted, which leads to some bad health issues. Not to mention, for our dog at least, he was overheating. He was sad because cuddling with us made him uncomfortably hot, the poor thing.
Load More Replies...Any haircut that doesn't require extensive suturing afterwards is a successful home haircut. Years ago, a woman brought her little poodle mix in with 3 big, deep, cuts that were each over an inch wide. Turns out she was using an inexperienced groomer at a big chain. These groomers move really fast and don't have a lot of experience and often have to ban dogs because they get scared and try to bite. So her pup tried to bite and got banned from the groomer and she attempted a home groom and pointed the scissors towards the dog instead of laying them flat. I'm not sure why the owner decided to keep going after the first major wound. Her dog was sent home from the vet with a lot of sutures, a cone of shame, and phone numbers for more experienced groomers who can handle scared dogs.
Holy hell, at first I thought it was the groomer who wounded the dog
