One “fantastic” part of the internet is the fact that you can, at any time, see some of the worst opinions available to humankind. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but some folks really insist on takes so scorchingly untouchable that they almost become entertaining.

The “Hot Take Nobody Asked For” Facebook page is dedicated to sharing and shaming people who had strong, controversial opinions that really went nowhere. So get comfortable as you scroll through, upvote your favorite examples and be sure to add your own thoughts below.

How about, blue states secede and join Canada and MAGA states get to form MAGALAND? Blue states keep their freedom and red states don't. Canada becomes a superpower and MAGAland becomes another 3rd world country.

I mean, there's a bit of truth to each of these statements. Twitter crashes like most websites every once in awhile. The stock market isn't at its highest (there was a small dip a few weeks ago). And, there were cases of planes having engineering issues (not to mention the several failed missions into space that have occurred). But don't call it Elon's America; that's exactly what he wants.

    View more comments

Some people insist on posting hot takes to the internet, even when their opinions might seem ill-informed or downright dumb, because the thrill of instant attention and validation often outweighs the need for careful thought. In an age of social media where reaction and engagement are currency, a controversial or off-the-cuff remark can quickly garner likes, shares, and heated debates, making it seem like a shortcut to popularity.

For many, the rush of being noticed in a crowded digital space is enough to push them to share opinions without fully considering the consequences or the nuances of the topic. After all, no such thing as bad publicity, unfortunately.

As a Canadian I assure you that we don't care. They shortened the United States of America to America. What else should they call themselves? United Statesians? It's not like we have some sort of continental pride but can't use the term American because US uses it. You'll never hear a Canadian refer to themselves as North American. I can't speak for the rest of the Americas but I would suspect they feel similarly.

That's the thing, they don't have a legitimate alternative. They get just as mad if we identify by US state instead of by country, even if the state is physically larger and more populous than their country (mine's not/I don't). I don't see anyone out here defending people living in the southern part of Africa against South Africans' identities. Signed, A United Statian of America* *the country

At its core, the urge to post hot takes is tied to the desire for immediate recognition and a sense of superiority, even if it means sacrificing depth for the sake of a viral moment. Some individuals thrive on the adrenaline of sparking outrage or eliciting strong emotional responses, regardless of whether their ideas hold up under scrutiny. In a culture that often rewards soundbites and sensationalism, well-thought-out arguments can be overshadowed by those that simply grab attention by any means necessary.

They'll say that the government forced them to have vaccines to prevent massive outbreaks of measles or polio and they had the vaccines but then there were no massive outbreaks, so therefore the vaccines were a waste of time. Acidic Rain was indeed a big problem in the 80s. A bunch of countries passed clean air standards to solve the problem though. It's actually an example I use to being hope to the climate crisis. When there is a will, there is a way. We can do this if we have the political will

The earth has already endured two ice ages and the current state of Arizona used to be underwater as part of the Western Interior Seaway, all prior to mass human population. How do the doomsday climate activists explain that? Maybe, it's because the earth goes through its own climate cycles independent of people.

Ozone is created by sunlight. The 2 ozone holes on the planet are where the atmosphere receives the least amount of sunlight due to the axial tilt. There's one in the northern hemisphere and one in the southern hemisphere. Google it.

Yes, the holes are there because that's where the concentration of atmospheric ozone is lowest and therefore the first areas to lose their ozone. CFCs were destroying the ozone layer all around the world so it makes sense that the thinnest parts of the layer would be the first to go.

There is also an element of performative identity at play. In a world where social media profiles often serve as a reflection of one's persona, posting a hot take can be a way for some to assert their individuality or align themselves with a perceived intellectual elite. Even if the content is shallow, the act of engaging in public debate or controversy can create a temporary feeling of belonging to a larger community of outspoken individuals.

I had "work ethics" the harder I worked, the more work they gave me, so I worked harder. Then they expected that level, which was me pushing myself to an extreme. Then they gave me a 20 cent pay increase for my efforts. I quit and left for another job, they hired two people to replace me. Never again, I then only worked as hard as the slowest person who was not being jumped on by supervision. And got better raises for being average.

Generally, the drive to share hot takes, even those that are dumb, is less about the quality of the ideas and more about the pursuit of digital clout. When attention is easily measurable and public validation is just a click away, the incentive to participate in the echo chamber of superficial controversy remains strong, reinforcing a cycle where quantity of engagement often trumps quality of thought.

It's that the choice of font did not happen in a vacuum. It wasn't a Renfaire or something either. It was the font they chose - which is indeed currently associated with fat-right groups - to launch their beef tallow fries, which they had explicitly positioned as a MAGA move (more specifically, a response to MAHA talking points, but also supported with cyber truck images etc.). It's *in that context* that the font choice comes across as a dog whistle.

That's not EXACTLY true, but not totally wrong. The Catholic Church used to have official Devil's Advocates, and their job was to present the argument for why someone nominated for sainthood should NOT recieve it. It wasn't supposed to be a general 'every viewpoint has some validity' position, and some viewpoints are OBJECTIVELY wrong due to factual or logical mistakes.

I didn't know I was evil. I usually take the Devil's advocate position to help my students have reasonable arguments and to learn to hear as many details as possible. This person needs to be sat down and have the concept explained. Slowly. In small words.

I disagree. The key word in OP's comment (for me) was 'disingenuous'. Hearing an honestly-held belief, even if you disagree with it or think it's totally wrong, is one thing. Just taking an opposing view for the sake of debate gives the impression that every argument has two equally-weighted sides whereas this is NOT true.

Forcing yourself to argue from the side you see as wrong is healthy and may open your perspectives. You need to understand why another person might believe what they believe in order to refute it. Or, possibly, change your own view. This person should not be a teacher. They think they have all the answers and there is no room for any opinion that differs from their own.

I not only will play devil's advocate, but I advocate for the Church of Satan. They fight to keep religion (i.e. christians) out of government. Funny thing is that Levayan Satanism is really just atheism with a mascot.

While being disingenuous should not have a place in a real world debate, it is naive to think that everyone will debate honestly. A great teacher will train their students not just to think of alternating viewpoints (and how to counter them -or honour them); but also how disingenuous arguments are constructed so students can watch for the warning signs. The goal of a real debate isn't necessarily to win, it's to achieve the best outcome. Students should be taught to think critically and question information, but they should also learn that it is not shameful or 'losing' to change your stance/viewpoint based on new information/arguments.

Oh, my, God. Sadly, I do know some fellow teachers who are this ignorant. Because of stupidity like this, I use the phrases “counter-argument,“ and “rebuttal“. When you are preparing an argumentative speech, you must anticipate at least one counter-argument, and have prepared at least one rebuttal.

Uhhh does this teacher not do debating in class? We used to do it. Kids are put on one side or the other (no choice just assigned a side) and have to argue for your side. Its a great way to develop critical thinking and expand your horizons.

I didn't want my abortion, I NEEDED it. I was potentially hours to a few days away from sepsis. My baby stopped developing at 8 weeks, and my body wouldn't let go. So yes, I support it. It's healthcare you t**t. Plus if you're not gonna offer adequate paid maternity leave and reasonable child care then there's no point in people having children just so we can struggle.

Listen, it was multiple causes, but this was the moral cause that brought people together, and frankly, was more admirable than arguing over states' rights. Lincoln told the South, "You want to play, ok, I'll just do what I wanted to begin with.

Thinking that we can or should run a government like a business is a special kind of stupid. Of course we don’t want government to be wasteful or abüsive but thinking it doesn’t have a role to play in the health of a nation where the private sector isn’t meeting needs is just plain willfully ignorant or mean-spirited.

As a long-time government employee, and without reading that article, I agree with that statement. It's very difficult to serve _people_ when you are forced to comply with mandates meant to make you efficient. It's never a one-size-fits-all situation. Everyone has their own specific needs and if you want to be effective in serving the public, you need the leeway to make independent decisions about what will work best. I'm so lucky that I never had to work for a department that used rigid pre-set metrics for serving the public.

Quick!! Let’s send all the peanuts to evolutionary hell because maybe, sometime a bird MIGHT pick up a peanut and drop it while flying over your yard and your feral child puts this nugget in their mouth. Or a random wild squirrel hides a nut somewhere near your house and your truffle-snuffling child puts it in their mouth. FFS.

Exactly. There are two options: 1) Tell the entire world to change to suit your wishes; or 2) Teach kids to not eat peanuts or anything found on the ground.

If You Consider Yourself A Friend To Someone, You Better Ask Them If They're Okay With Being Befriended. You're Setting Them Up For Disappointment If You End Up Having A Falling Out

If a person doesn't share the delusion that they are a mentee, then they will hardly get upset when they discover their self-deluded mentor has forsaken them. And if they do share the delusion, then it's not a delusion. This is just ridiculous.

I actually agree with this one. I've MET people that act like they are in a position to be respected, to have their opinion or 'expertise' sought, due to their greater age or seniority of time in a job. They are often quite irritated when the person they are 'showing the ropes' does not appreciate the role, or act 'appropriately'. Being a REAL mentor is a serious relationship, and both parties need to be willing to take part.

This is a big party of my job. I don't have a formal mentor relationship, I think that's unnecessary. But I lead by example, I correct mistakes. If Junior engineers are unwilling to take correction, that's fine. I'm willing to hear them out, sometimes they're right and I'm wrong. But if they can't convince me, they are still free to go their own way. And if it turns out I was wrong after all, that's awesome, I would love that. I would rather learn something new, than be right. Mentoring is a two way street after all.

To Sadie:, As a lesbian, here are some things I love about (not all) men: a quick and witty sense of humor, ability to reach higher shelves, ease of opening jar lids, willingness to ride in front in cabs/ubers, their easy and carefree way of walking through the world, their ability to gloss over/move quickly past feelings, the fact they will often eat the food I haven’t been able to finish or don’t like, their barbers. I really could go on and on. I don’t know why you are focused on liking men only for their ability to provide. I don’t “need” one, but I love so many of them. What do you like about men that isn’t about them providing for you,? Because it sounds like YOU don’t see their value outside that.

and our railways were designed to max out at 55mph. they cannot go faster due to physics and trains literally jumping tracs on the curves. we have never updated any unlike over in europe and asia where they can go much much faster. High peed rails are physically completely different types of trains and americans just dont use trains enough for companies to invest in overhauling the railways. it would be a massive upfront cost and it would take YEARS to recoup the investments and no one is willing to do that.

Capitalism doesn't dictate that. The owner's personal preferences, seating limits, how disruptive the customers are, how busy the day is...there are many reasons why a business could let you stay indefinitely or boot you out the moment you finish eating.

I once had a table of four students, rich ones btw given that they put their gold Amex cards behind the bar for the tab. It was a Saturday morning, incredibly busy and they kept ordering water after they'd finished their meal. I asked them politely if they could please finish their water in the bar area? Nope... This arrogant "male" said - "If you'd done better at Uni like we are? You wouldn't be stuck here in a dead end job" ........ Totally unfortunately for them my boss and supervisor overheard that and... All cards declined. Held behind the bar until one of them was able to go out and get cash from the cash machine to pay the bill.... Moral of the story? Don't pish off your servers 👍😉

Did they all order another round of food or drink? If not, then they only paid once and, if there are people waiting for tables, they should show some consideration and leave so that others may sit down to enjoy a meal.

My son was a bus boy at a small cafe - a table of 3 women were there a long time and when he gathered their plates and removed them none of them said a word. Then they called over the mgr and one lady said she hadn't yet finished her meal with the plate was removed (btw, there were several green beans and some potatoe on the plate). So the mgr sent her a full new plate. When whe was done she had left the SAME foods behind on this plate. What a scam.

Good god this makes me angry!! Does the US not know what they did to Korea!?! They were there to aid the removal of the occupying Japanese after WWII (which started on 1910) but some decided to take the Japanese bribes & left them in charge. It was arbitrarily decided to split the country along a line of latitude, which split lands & family that continues to this day. During the war, the esteemed Gen Macarthur loved the idea of nuclear bombs so much he wanted 30-40 OF THEM to bomb the border of N Korea & China! Cooler heads prevailed, fortunately. That war is still continuing to this day, a peace treaty has never been signed but it's the longest cease fire in history. All S Korean men must do mandatory armed forces duty between the ages of 19-35. So many, many more atrocities upon this country by the US, but yes please, call S Korea 'American Occupied'. 🙄 If you've read this far, congrats! Look into this further, expand your knowledge on this little known piece of the planet.

Your understanding of this divide is indeed quite shortsighted. In fact, the conflicts between different regimes on the Korean Peninsula have been going on for hundreds and hundreds of years. There have been very few periods of Korean unification during known history, with the peninsula divided between two, and often three, different kingdoms for significant periods of time. Additionally, conflict with Japan has also been a longstanding element.

Even if you left nothing to your kids this would result in more inequality. Because it's not like you die the moment your child is born. They would still get to be nepo babies. Except now you are taking away the only way most poor and middle class families have of passing on what little wealth they have acquired

Because it at least partly balances the distribution of wealth. Capitalism has the inherent property to amass most of the wealth in the hands of only a few people. So unless you massively redistribute EXCESSIVE wealth (one way or the other), wealth will continue to accumulate only for a few people. But with that much wealth, it's possible to influence average people to believe it's their comparably little wealth the government is after...

What I like about this idea is that when we see the other end of the spectrum is so ridiculous, doesn't it put into perspective how ridiculous our current situation is? After all, while no inheritance at all seems nuts, doesn't it also seem nuts that kids are inheriting staggering amounts of money tax-free?

Why are people some people so self conscious about the word "cisgender?" It means "on the same side of gender," referring to a person who identifies with their s*x at birth. I would understand if somebody wasn't familiar with the term or was confused about it's meaning, but it was never intended to be derogatory or discriminating in anyway. People who make a big deal about the word are either not cisender themselves (fair enough), or transphobic in some shape or form. Why would they be uncomfortable with a word that literally describes their biology?

    Apatheist Account2
    Community Member
8 months ago (edited) Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

The problem with the word is that is carries connotations of "cissy", or "sissy", meaning an effeminate male, and is therefore seen to be emasculating - which exacerbates the feeling of those who have been raised on the idea of what a man is, and don't feel comfortable with the term "cis male" when they feel that "male" should be sufficient for the vast majority (and gay male, trans male etc for those who are not "normal").

Since when did the term cisgender become an insult? It’s a perfectly fine word that refers to someone who is the exact same gender they were born with.

    David Morgan
    Community Member
8 months ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

It refers to someone who identifies as the same gender as their biology (i.e. I think of myself as male and I have XY chromosomes and male genitalia), whereas transgender people identify as a gender that is not the same as their biology. Some of them want to make the two re-align, others don't. Idiots like Julie Rose think that any term other than 'straight' means some weird, leftist imaginary nonsense.

No. You are a self-centered, egotistical brat that needs to learn manners and that there are real people out there who don't care for you and your filming to disrupt their day.

B***o. People filming "content" are just disturbing the peace. If I have the slightest inclination that you are filming me, I will track you down and ruin your life.

Anyone wishing to film me working out at the gym would be advised to bring a very fast lens.

When I go to the gym, I stare at the floor. I'm sorry I looked at your foot. Sorry. I feel awful now.

If you were actually working out, you wouldn't be filming 'content'.
