It's not hard to figure out. When DOGE claws back grants and fires workers, where do you suppose that money goes? It was already allocated by congress, so it has to go somewhere. But if it's not spent according to how congress allocated it, then what will it be spent on? Bribes, I assume. The tariffs are the same deal, except a much bigger pot of money. It's a back door tax to build a slush fund that only he controls. Why wouldn't he want that?

The economic illiteracy! It burns! Capitalism means that the buyer chooses the lowest price. Sales tax gets passed on to the consumer because it's applied to all options. Corporate taxes MAY get passed onto the consumer but only indirectly because they help less efficient companies crowd out more efficient newcomers or allow unprofitable companies to raise their prices. Tariffs get passed onto the consumer only insomuch as a domestic alternative costs more.

I thought he was an idiot too, and maybe he is, and it's just his cronies are geniuses. But now I realize how brilliant the tariffs are. The point isn't to punish these countries. It's a system to redistribute America's wealth from the bottom 99% to the billionaire class. The average American doesn't have the wealth to play the market. So those who can, put money into IRAs, but most can't even do that. But for those with liquid wealth, they short the market when he is about to levy tariffs, then buy a few days later. At the end, the average investor loses 6-8% of their savings. But that lost wealth is transferred into the connected elite. It's actually quite a smart way of robbing your citizens that's totally legal.

Tariffs have nothing to do with capitalism, but everything to do with protectionism. The point of tariffs is to discourage Americans from buying foreign made products and to encourage American manufacturing. There are plenty of Canadian capitalists, and plenty of American companies that are run by collectives. Tariffs have nothing to do with either of them. This is all about nationalism.
