The thing about the Bible is that you can find almost anything you want to in it. It's made out of so many different bits and bobs. That means for start that you can't "live by the Bible", because one part says you should stone people to déath for relatively minor shít, while another says even if you're being kílled, just be cool with it, be peaceful! It's impossible to use the entire thing as a guide to moral life. And it also means that when any sort of nuts are trying to use it as a justification for their own agenda, they will find one or another verse in it that at least partially fits their ideas.

I am a Christian and THISSS. You wouldn't believe how many Christians believe themselves as Chiristians but don't actually follow the core values of the religion. The Bible itself shows Christians as people of love, saying that "they will see us by our love". Direct quote. Like cmon people

Most of the poeple who say things like that would be against bibically accurate jesus.

You know, that’s why the words of Jesus are written in red. That’s how the fundamentalists know what to skip.

And not just listen to their pastor saying hateful things.

I'm a christian theologian and I agree. Jesus had no interest at all in peoples marriage- or love life, and he'd usually side with the group being bullied or casted out. He gave zero advice on whom we should have the s e x with and more to say about how we should treat each other with respect.

The process of rationalization is a powerful thing.

The bible I read as a child of a Jehovah Witness said the same thing. It was the same thing my Catholic family's bible said. They're all just racists and bigots in their own special ways.

Modern culture is awash in sexual sinfulness, not merely homosexual sinfulness, so I don't mean to throw down with people wrongfully singling out a form of sinfulness they claim to not experience temptation from. But you're not seriously meaning to suggest that Jesus was OK with p**********n? What part of "Go and sin no more" do you not get? Do you know what "repent" even means? Jesus says to forgive sin, but never says to affirm it; quite the opposite, he taught that it was a mercy to reproach sinners, lest judgment not fall on them. “If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him." “As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.” Among the Jews, sins such as fornication and p**********n were harshly shamed by society, so Jesus emphasized forgiveness over merely repeating the morals which everyone already knew, but when his disciples went among the Greeks who didn't have such a background presumption, they were very clear, many times listing the sins of those who "shall never enter the Kingdom of God."
