This should be the number one post. The world has gone mad and we're all just looking on.

it's almost as if the culture in America is to keep everyone poor except the 1%.... huh.....

That is because capitalists like investment firms buy up businesses to make a profit. They make the profit by not paying the workers a decent wage.

My company, privately held so no public stock, is projected to only make 3.3 billion in profits this year, down from 3 5 last. As a result we are laying off thousands of workers, cutting resources to existing workers, being given more work and responsibilities with no pay, yet no executives are loosing bonuses or being let go.

And this is precisely why capitalism, a greed-based philosophy, is doomed to fail. And no, I'm not advocating for the opposite extreme either, because that's equally stupid. I'm advocating for true social democracy. Which a LOT of the world has figured out. The US needs to get the damn memo.

The rich get richer and the poor get more poor and we keep electing the same dirtbags that let it happen

But socialism is a dirty word? Capitalism without socialism is just abusive for most in the system.

The system is broken and it won't get better until it gets so bad people literally can't survive.

This system will have to implode eventually.

All good questions. We should also look at insurance premiums and over regulation for eating into that money before it can get to the employees.

Selling uniforms or making too good copies for uniforms and selling them for costumes should be forbidden. Here in Finland police uniforms are strictly regulated, and only police officers are able to wear them. They can loan them for movie/tv appearances, but even then it's closely monitered and restricted. So in here, anyone wearing any kind of real looking police uniform is an actual police. Makes life much easier.

People defend tipping because a) the workers don’t earn enough (businesses’ problem not customers’) and b) it would raise prices if they were paid more … and prices get raised anyway
