50 Of The Funniest Classical Art Memes To Make Your Daily Coffee Break More Enjoyable (New Pics)
Art has always been a way to express how it felt to exist at a certain time, capturing its essence, struggles, and triumphs. While it’s hard to imagine, artists of the past share a lot more in common with present-day folks, making these masterpieces relevant even after hundreds of years.
Luckily for us, their relatability makes them great material for something the modern human enjoys weirdly too much. That’s right, memes! The Instagram account ‘ClassicReelsMemes’ has an impressive collection of them, making it the perfect place for some laughs and culture. Scroll down to find the best classical art memes that even Da Vinci would approve of.

Load More Replies...Yep. This one is called 'the lighter' and the girl has been warned about not to use it. She got curious while her parents were out and did catch fire, burnt to ashes (except her shoes). Disturbing, yes, but every story or fairy tale is some sort of education. If you do it wrong or you are a bad person, you will be punished one day is the lesson for the children. And then a guy called Walt Disney came along.
My daughter goes to a German school and we were quite surprised that the kids are read the real versions of the fairy tales at a rather young age! Incidentally, a great accompaniment to these fairy tales for kids aged 7+ is The Night I Fell Into A Fairytale by Ben Miller. Can only recommend it!
Even small children can tell that the fairytailes are not the real life. And they just imagine it their own way when you read or tell the tale. The amount of laughing abd screaming when the wolf swallows grandma whole is hillarious! Obviously it's impossible to just gulp up someone without chewing.. aaah *goes searching for the fairytale book*

Es brennt die Hand, es brennt das Haar, Es brennt das ganze Kind sogar.« The »Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders«, the internationally valid diagnostic catalog of psychiatry, claims the following criteria for pathological pyromania: • deliberate and premeditated setting of fire in several instances • great tension and excitement before the act • obsessed interest in fire and everything to do with it • joy or relief during the arson • arsons were not committed for financial reasons, revenge, etc.
This is no classical fairy tale an has nothing to do with Brothers Grimm. It´s a story from the book "Der Struwwelpeter". The intention of those stories was to warn and to frighten children to do the descripted things - like playing with fire. The book is from 1844....
Are the cats yelling in terror or using her as a human sacrifice? Or is she perhaps the demon they were trying to summon?
Plus, sometimes if you procrastinate long enough, you can cross something off because you can't do it anymore.
The process that people go through to craft these amazing classical art memes is called remixing. During it, they take a piece of art from its original context and create a newer piece of media. Initially, remixing was only used for music or sound manipulation, but now it can be employed to produce a new version of anything.
Even the classical artists themselves are guilty of doing this. Embracing remixing often drives innovation and pushes the boundaries of creative expression. One of the most renowned artists, Pablo Picasso, has famously said, “Good artists copy; great artists steal.” He frequently borrowed from African, Iberian, and other artistic traditions, redoing them and creating his own groundbreaking style.
She should. It's been hours and he hasn't painted a damn thing. "This is the worst Tinder date. So far, this month. Wait, what day is it? Okay, yeah, this month. Only 29 days more. When I said I wanted a freak, I meant in bed."

Drew apologized, but they went ahead and did the sketch. The girl sat on a stool, and Colin was pretending to paint her. Ryan was the first to speak. He said, "Colin, put on your pants!" So Colin mimed putting pants on, and all was well. Drew promised the girl's mother that next time, he'd read the card before choosing an audience member. I thought Ryan did well. It fixed the issue, the girl still got to participate, and the only one embarrassed was Drew
To be fair he never actually said which one of them would be nude. Specifics.

But in order to create a classical art meme that people will find amusing and relatable, the creator has to be literate in art, its history, and meme culture. Therefore, creating and sharing them acts as a way to learn more about art history and the meaning behind each painting.
English and Great Books professor Christine Cornell says, “I think it’s a fun thing to try out at least. Yeah, and it maybe introduces some people to art they might not have run into otherwise, so that’s always good.”
I did a reverse search of the image and it's actually two paintings photoshopped together. It's The Death of Chatterton by Henry Wallis and Sweets to the Sweet by Edmund Blaire Leighton. I'm assuming the editor added the transistor radio...to be funny?

In fact, for many people, classical art memes are the only gateway to the artistic world, as classical art is often viewed as “highbrow” and “high-class, which makes it unwelcoming and unattainable for some. The paintings also tend to be ambiguous and require research to be dissected, which can scare off those who don’t really have time to do that.
Bummer when they turn out to be extra long and you wake up an hour or two before bedtime.

It's best to lay the groundwork here and claim to have some sort of condition or affliction that "flairs up" from time to time. Do your research, nothing disfiguring or life-threatening, you need something just enough that mildly debilitates you but serious enough to stop you going out. Then you can get out of stuff by saying you are having a flair-up. I humbly suggest IBS, or if you are female, female troubles.

That said, some see taking original masterpieces and adding humorous text to them as devaluing them. Francesca Testa from the online art platform Cartellino in a way defends memes by saying, “After so much research and attempts to understand art history, it's safe to say that what these memes brought is no depreciation.
Medieval and Renaissance art is indeed considered priceless today, but just because they've been used as tools for injecting humor into the tragic everyday lives of angsty millennials or trivial adventures of young individuals doesn't mean they devalue the art pieces used. They simply start a conversation that transcends time.”

Helm was a proposer of some unorthodox techniques for siege warfare, some of them involving strapping incendiary devices to animals. It is dubious if he reported those as mere curiosities, possibly riding the popularity of the story of Olga of Kiev using pigeons to burn a castle in revenge, or if someone actually experimented with the concept.

Load More Replies...In fact, Cornell argues that these memes are the same as any art being repurposed into a collage or something broken being created into a new artwork. “There’s nothing wrong with repurposing things as well. It’s like sampling in music, there’s no reason artists shouldn’t do that,” she said. “And I think art works that way all the time so it kind of makes sense that they get used this way.”

We also shouldn’t forget that being proficient in history, art, and modern culture in order to create a successful art meme isn’t an easy task, considering that we have decades and centuries' worth of digital and physical media. For this reason, some people are starting to see memes as a form of art. And if we take the definition of art, we can see that memes do fall into its definition.
That's not asking. If you are going to be like that, at least be a gentleman about it and escort her to the door.

As a result, internet memes are frequently compared to pop art or street art because of their high accessibility. Artist and writer An Xiao Mina explains, “Memes are the street art of the social web, and like street art, they are varied, expressive, and complex.”

Genuinely beautiful babies are the exception rather than the rule, though everyone thinks theirs is the most beautiful baby ever born. I’m not saying they won’t grow up to be gorgeous, because a good sized chunk of them actually do (even though it seems counterintuitive for it to happen, I have witnessed it myself countless times, like they grow into their mismatched features or something ), I’m just saying that as babies they were not.
While that may or may not be true, this picture is not actually of a baby.

Abdominal surgeries couldn't be done because no amount of restraints could keep someone from writhing in pain. They probably would've died from infection anyway
Mastectomies were performed without anesthesia. There's a first-person account by F***y Burney, in a letter to her sister, recounting hers in 1912.

It's not. I'ls a collage of thre unrelated images. The dog and even the woman are added into it. And even the underlying art of Jesus with the red white and blue (which has nothing to do with America... or France ... or that island just N of France) is late 20th c at the earliest. The tricolor rays from the heart of Jesus is from a 20th c Polish saint who was initially suppressed because of a bad translation which made her seem heretical, so she only really became famous in the West after the Polish pope, John Paul II (Karol Woityla) recognized the mistranslation. Then they started making paintings based on her visions.
