However, there are only a few wellsprings of memes that keep things original and classy. In today's digital era, where information travels at warp speed, and Apple's new luxurious VR goggles (only for $3500!) just beg to be made fun of, a curious cultural phenomenon has captured our collective imagination, transcending language, age, and class — funny memes and jokes for adults. These seemingly innocuous images, videos, or text snippets, infused with wit and humor, have woven their way into the very fabric of existence, not only online but in real life as well.
In a recent post, Adam Downer, the editor of “Know Your Meme,” explained to Bored Panda that “The best way for a meme to work is to have it be applicable to a wide array of situations, and it needs to be able to transcend its original context. Oftentimes, you'll see people clamoring over a 'new meme' that is really just jokes about one pop culture reference.”
I don't even get how that happens! Also, websites need to let me choose whatever password I want rather than their 14 requirements for the password, including a symbol, a chinese character and one of the spice girls...
The power of funny jokes and memes, then, lies in their versatility. They act as cultural mirrors, reflecting society's quirks, foibles, and prevailing trends. By poking fun at our collective obsessions, they offer a sense of camaraderie and validation.
Just think of all the times you have seen a memed-out Elon Musk (who appears not to mind it) or some clunky technology that was just begging to be made fun of. Surprisingly, we have come to a point when there's no point in counting just how many funny memes and jokes we are blessed with every day.
According to the BBC, the term “meme” was introduced by renowned evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in 1976. Drawing inspiration from the Greek word “mimeme” (which sounds a bit like Trump's brain-child “confefe”), Dawkins sought to elucidate the concept of discrete cultural units that replicate and spread among individuals, much like genes. In the act of linguistic creativity, he shortened "mimeme" to “meme,” which conveniently rhymed with “cream.” Dawkins proposed that these funny memes and jokes for adults encompassed melodies, ideas, catchphrases, or fragments of information that leap from one mind to another through imitation, facilitating their transmission.
Oh, yeah. And the hour or so before that when you're debating: if I get up and go to the bathroom will it wake me up more than staying in bed with the need to go?
Researchers at Meta, for example, showed just how fast funny memes and jokes on Instagram can spread and evolve. They found more than 121,000 different variants of one particular meme posted across more than 1 million status updates. Come to think of it, it's not so crazy to hear something like this in today's day and age. But we're talking about the age of “doge” and other classical memes that paved the way for a whole new appreciation of this internet phenomenon.
In essence, though, the fascination with funny jokes and memes can be attributed to their ability to entertain, connect, and provoke thought. Not only do they offer a form of cultural shorthand that binds us together, but they also offer a unique way for self-expression—something that is evident in the popularity of meme hubs like today‘s meme sponsor.
Once when we had a sunny day in England I laid in the garden reading a book all day - it felt like a 2 week holiday
Yes. We have. But everyone is still going to keep putting +4s on +4s
Load More Replies...What about making the person who put down the +4 draw 4 by playing a "reverse" card?
the only rule of uno is that you make get anybody else to believe the wrong way is the right way
if you really want to be that cruel, play Uno flip, where you can stack +5
I love the photoshop in this one, I see a comma instead of a period for the likes
What? Do you mean the 32,4K? I‘m not sure how many countries do what, but I do know the US writes , instead of . and vice versa. This picture must have been taken in Europe though, I think. The first comment has 9907 likes and the second one 32400. They just shortened it to 32,4K. In Europe you would write a halve as 0,5 with a comma, not a period. And if you have 1000 you can write it as 1.000 with a period, not a comma. I know it‘s reversed in the US and I‘m sure it has led to many misunderstandings. What it is not though, is photoshopped.
Load More Replies...I love the fact that he's arguing with the game creators lol! Also I have no idea how or even what Uno is!
but.. but... if I play a +4 and the next person counters this by adding another +4, and the person after has to pick up 8 cards, it makes the game sooooooooooo much more fun!
The +4 on a +4 does not even make sense. The +4 is always a color wish card so you need to put down the color they wished. You can‘t put another wish card on a wish card! (Yes I‘m German, yes we love following rules)
+4 on a +4 is the way we've always played it - awesome way to really sabotage someone, sucks when you're on the receiving end XD
Oh snap!!!!! Yeah I've been totally playing it wrong 😆😆🤣 whoopsie daisy
I thought putting a +4 was for the next person to pick up then they put it down for their turn for the next person, I had no idea you put another +4 on top of a +4 and the next person has to pick up 8. Is this correct? I LOVE uno. Do tell.
For some this is wild Uno. Keep it going till no one can play and that person gets slammed.
We play +4 on +4 has to take a shot...by the end of the game we are laughing and falling off of chairs.
When you play in the app the wild version you can absolutely play a +4 on a +4 usually I’m the one that gets doomed
I do not know what is going on here, and I think that it is best that I do not get involved.
For all those people ( including me ) who have never once played UNO - the answer is " Unicorn Flavored Smarties " I read that in a fortune cookie, so must be true....
We make our own rules. +4 on a +4 means the next person draws 8. Thems the rules in my house.
We call that ✨spicy uno✨ Includes: 1.Everyone silent when a seven is played until another seven is played 2. Can stack multiple draw cards 3. Can stack multiples of the same number different color if one of the original is in the stack AND it is your turn 4. Can play an identical card even if it is not your turn 5. when a nine is played everyone must smack the table. Last person to smack draws a card
I like the first one! Do you have a penalty if someone speaks before the 2nd 7 is played?
Load More Replies...Y'all the rules depends on house rules! No one reads Uno's instructions book. Wherever you are, you follow house rules. If y'all are at my house, no stacks (putting +'s on top of each other, whoever can't put one down pulls all of those cards). But if you're in my friend's house, stacks all the way man.
If you play me in UNO, we WILL be playing by the rule book, and there are ZERO exceptions. Because I am an UNO purist, fight me (/j)
We should make this acceptable. Like, in Dutch, there’s a word that means: hang around, relax and do nothing, and that is an acceptable plan for your day ✨
Technically he was 4 years old when he applied for the job. As his mother was always the heir presumptive. When George VI died, he was immediately 1st in line.
Had a little extra money at the end of last month, so of course my "check engine" light came on 😭
So true! I may be shy, but with me friends I am… not.
Also: after 45 minutes you're still trying to appear supportive but you're actually compiling your grocery shopping list in your head.
