From reactions to the Met Gala outfits to The Oscars moments, we can’t seem to stop talking about them. Our obsession with famous people is everywhere. After all, there’s plenty of entertainment and lots to like when it comes to people in the public eye.

When celebrities fall from grace, devoted fans are on the lookout to express their disappointment, and one thread over on Ask Reddit proved to be the perfect outlet. A while back, user theresabeeonyourhat posed a question: "Who is a celebrity you used to admire, but no longer do, and why?"

I was an Elon Musk fan.
Mass Effect is one of my favourite franchises, and I saw Elon and SpaceX as a way of achieving something like the future in Mass Effect.
Later I learned that he basically just takes all of the fame from the engineers, pumps and dumps crypto, is an idiot, and exploits the f**k out of his workers. He's a garbage human being that should shut up, and leave the companies he has as they have potential beyond his smug face.
I still like SpaceX and I think they will probably lead to our future in space exploration, but Elon is on top of my s**t list, just like most if not all billionaires and millionaires. Especially the ones that are garbage to the people that made their company what they are today.

I live just 25 miles from Brownsville. It always made me uncomfortable with him living here in the Rio Grande Valley. Easily, we could be exploited. Texas taxes favor him and we're literally about the cheapest place you can live. I was starting to warm up when he attended our Charro Days but then I went back to never trusting him when he claimed Netflix users were leaving due to the content being "too woke". He has a lot of influence, so to say something as ignorant and divisive* as that... he's simply another rich dickkk playing his hand at power control. F that guy.

Might get dragged for this but Kanye West. His contribution to hip-hop music is undeniable, especially his first six solo albums and his work as a producer in the late 90s/early 00s. His public persona was always a bit annoying, but ultimately harmless.
2020 changed that. His presidential run was a bridge too far for me, especially since it was funded/managed by right-wing operatives who probably wanted to use him as a spoiler candidate. And the quality of his music has also diminished. Not a lot of redeeming qualities left to hold on to.

While people have spent the better part of the past decade "canceling" everyone on the basis that "you can't separate the art from the artist" somehow this insufferable c*nt nugget has been allowed to become a billionaire. Remember when he hopped on stage during an acceptance speech at the VMA's to rant about how "beyonce should have won"? That was 13 years ago, and his personality has been a steady downward spiral since. Meanwhile, the high regard for his music has always baffled me, never saw it as anything special. It just seems like 2 decades of him stroking his ego shamelessly and aggressively at all times in public has hypnotized the masses into believing it as media outlets quote him without credit and give the impression that EVERYONE is singing his praises when all roads really lead directly back to him.

Many years ago, a friend of mine in Houston waited on her and her entourage at a very nice restaurant. She demanded that the place's very starstruck manager go to the store and get the kind of bottled water she liked, because she wasn't doing that tap bull***t and they didn't carry the kind she liked. She and her people needled the hell out of my friend until the manager got back from the store with it, and then complained when it wasn't served cold, even though he of course brought glasses of ice with it.
She ran my friend ragged, and laughed the whole time. B**ched and called him names at every opportunity. We were both servers at that point, and I'd gone to his restaurant and asked for him at times (hey, if you're gonna tip someone, might as well keep it in the family), so I know he was damned good at what he did. I saw how he treated all his tables. He loved his job and did his best at all times.
She and her friends stiffed him. Zero tip. After camping out at that table, in that private room that was given just to her and nobody else, for 3 hours. Just because she could.

But it made me mad when they opposed a proposed law on the ballot in California for mental health funding. I got curious why and so I went to their website and the reason they gave for opposing it? "Most psychiatrists are rapists." Huh? Fortunately the bill passed. Ironically one of the main purposes for that money was to help expand SUPPORTIVE services, such as therapy and self-help programs. The psychiatrists are already paid by insurance or state medicaid in California.

Dr.Phil and Dr.Oz are absolutely horrible, but THE prime example of her detrimental impact on society is having Jenny McCarthy on to peddle anti-vax BS. While the "study" that started it all gained attention in the late 90's, the author retracted the paper, and publicly denounced the findings by 2001. While idiots continued to cite that paper, they were very much a niche group that the majority of people ignored...until 2008 when Oprah had JM on her show (who alluded to that retracted study) that was the catalyst for the current anti-vaxx idiocy, driven by oprahs stable of morons who treat everything she says and promotes as gospel. I watched all his movies, his Netflix shows, interviews, I couldn't breath when all those allegations started coming out. I just heard his interview on the Howard Stern Show, and he was defending Roman Pulanski in the worst ways, saying she wanted it, she bragged about it, etc.

While “the guy who has the personality & character you think he does” doubled down on little girl having fully developed cognitive ability to use her sexual agency, Stern gave him every open to see how disgusting the very idea was. Also, there is homage and influence in many filmmakers work. My only surprise about the Roman Polanski thing was why was he the only one that got in trouble for it back then?? I’m surprised to not see them mentioned yet but Caitlyn Jenner. The support for her when she came out and she was honestly brave enough to do it. And then 2016 happens and she’s spewing about taking away LGBT rights and continuing to do so in her wanna be political career. Fyi, using "they" to refer to Caitlyn is also misgendering. If you don't know someone's pronouns, it's okay to use they/then when referencing them (like "who left their laptop unattended?"). But if you know someone's pronouns, using different pronouns is misgendering.

Firstly the teens are kidnapped in the middle of the night, put in handcuffs and they have no idea what's going on until they get there. He fully cooperated with law enforcement and served the time he was sentenced to, which wasn't enough by today's standards but was normal for the time. It's only because of his public profile that the US judicial system sought to retry him, and he left the country. Still find him slightly abhorrent but am in awe of his film career.

This is one of those instances where "people are complicated" His personal life has nothing to do with his achievements, nor does it negate them. You can respect and admire aspects of a person, or what they've accomplished without condoning 100% of what they say, think, feel or do. Everyone has flaws, everyone has shortcomings. Everyone, without fail has at least one person that loathes them, merited or not. There are plenty of people who who's impact on the world and society at large primarily negative (see:Oprah) but this notion that celebrities or public figures or...anyone really are supposed to be models of perfection, and failing to live up to that standard in any way means they should be vilified and written off completely is just dangerous thinking.

I enjoyed the early seasons of Top Model and I enjoy the overall concept, the artistry is amazing, but I had to stop watching because it eventually became the Tyra Banks Show. It was disgusting how she kept turning every challenge about her in some form (yes, you 'invented' the term Smize, we get it). Contestants would be eliminated due to disagreeing with her opinion. I'm sure there is also a reason why there were new judges after a few years ...

I lost a lot of respect because of how the contestants were treated. Like the episode they dressed one up as an elephant because they were picking on her weight the whole episode. She wasn’t even fat - just liked to have a bagel for breakfast. They pushed models to practically starve themselves. Then there was the whole makeover bit at the beginning. They would purposely single out at least one for a look that didn’t suit them. I remember they gave one model a weave, which started falling out almost immediately and made her keep it for way too long, which negatively affected her photos.

I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and there is a move called “knee on belly” which is exactly what it sounds like. Typically when you’re training, you don’t go full force because its an a*****e move especially when you’re training. Well, Mario was at my gym one day and he decided to go full force on me and I heard some snap crackle and pop sounds coming from my ribs which led to my rolling around on the floor for a bit. He never checked on me or apologized for doing that.
It takes a special kind of human to lack that much empathy to completely ignore someone writhing in pain that you clearly inflicted.
Ever since then I can physically feel my blood pressure rise whenever I see Extra or Access Hollywood or whatever cr**py show he hosts.

Because you are talking Hollywood here, the place where all the attention-seeking narcissists head to make their fortune (or not). When they make it, they become even more of what they are, which is generally not a good thing. That's not saying that there aren't good people who are NOT mentally ill in Hollywood. There are, but those are the ones usually just live their lives in quiet, so they have to be hunted by photographers to get their pics in the papers/mags.

Sure people have massive egos and it can be annoying when celebs get political...BUT Bono has literally spend hundreds and hundreds of hours away from his family travelling to meet world leaders to end 3rd world debt..and was a big part of accomplishing that..he studied hard to learn all about it so he would be respected when meeting with these decision makers. Including having to sit down with some evil people to help negotiate this goal. He deserves some credit for this. I can't stand him! He's such a bad interviewer; he never actually challenges what people say on his show, all he really does is reword it in to a question. You could say "Mars is the largest planet in our solar system." His response would be: "So then Mars is the largest planet?" Ugh! I disliked him from his commentary days with Bas Rutten where Bas made the observations and Rogan, once again, just reworded them to repeat what was JUST SAID. I have no idea why people like him or think he's "profound."

1. Cast a neurotypical person.
2. Use Autism Speaks as a consultant
3. Have a very cliched and unrealistic depiction of autism, and show dangerous and inappropriate means of controlling autism as if it were normal.
4. Throw a tantrum when people criticise you for the above.
5. Backtrack and offer a half-hearted apology when you realise they have a point.

I never supported Autism Speaks because the majority of people on that page are hellbent on blaming vaccines for Autism. They're always trying to find a cause. It's supposed to be a place of support for people with autism and parents of kids with ASD. It's really hard for the people that want help or need help to be heard.

I feel bad for Maddie Ziegler, the girl who played the main character. Apparently she felt really forced by sia (who's her godmother too wth) and to her it felt wrong that she was playing an autistic girl when she is not autistic herself. If I heard right, Sia did actually hire someone with autism to play the main character, but sia fired her because she was "too much to deal with" or something. There is a LOT hiding behind this movie...it's insane

She was one of my al time favorite artists, and I really appreciated how she spoke candidly about addiction and recovery. I work with people who have various developmental delays, including ASD. It saddened and disgusted me to watch the movie and see how ASD was depicted. And her very un-humble response was even worse. I will also add, for a movie called “music” it was her worst music yet.

As an autistic person, hearing about how severely she mishandled the movie made me really sad. It could’ve been an uplifting, informative story about how autistic people don’t have anything wrong with them and how to accommodate and include autistic children and people, all while being nuanced and non-condescending, but no. She just couldn’t keep her ego in check and instead just didn’t do her research and f’d it all up, and lashed out to respectful, constructive criticism on Twitter. It just makes me really sad to see how this could have been avoided and not become such a tremendous waste of money (I saw both illuminaughtii and Cynical Reviews’ videos on this)

I was watching The Naked Gun, where OJ Simpson plays a loveable goofball, and it honestly makes his scenes surreal. Nicole called the police to their house 8 times because of his abuse. Nicole's diary, documenting an additional 12 incidents of abuse was not allowed to be admitted into evidence. There was no actual rape but there was a theft of agency, humiliation, and exploitation of a 19 year old's "authentic reaction" to a surprise scene. The person to blame is the director Bernardo Bertolucci, though, not Brando.

But this one, Amitabh Bachchan has been summoned to US Federal Court to be investigated for human rights abuses for his involvement in the anti-Sikh riots which saw over 8000 Sikhs killed. It says a lot about India that this man is still incredibly popular when he's guilty of instigating genocide.

Oof, here’s a recent one, I just lost my respect for a celebrity the past few weeks: Kris Wu As someone who really admired his English and Mandarin music, plus the acting roles he’s been is, I always saw him as a strong and brave person for the stuff he went through. He used to be in a Kpop group, for instance, and from what we know, not only was he discriminated against and paid less for being Chinese, but it was once leaked that he was suffering myocarditis(?), basically implying he could have a heart attack anytime. The company didn’t care and he left, which I thought was good for his health despite the hate he got. Now, recently (TW//) it’s been revealed that he’s been drugging and r**ing many underage girls, including one at the age of 13. China has deleted many of his public accounts and he is now in custody. He is such a vile disgusting person and I am so ashamed to have looked up to him. I hope the victims get the care and peace they need, and I hope justice is served.

I am not defending Scientology at all. I am just commenting empathy for her for the predicament she might be in. Dealt with her as a guest at our hotel. High maintenance would be an understatement and she had zero respect for the staff or the property itself. All she had to do was ring reception and we’d have taken her dog out for a walk / use of the facilities, but no it was easier to let it defecate in the room and have us clear up / sanitise the carpet. That’s a gross job to undertake I can assure you. I didn’t mind picking fresh mint from our herb garden in the middle of the night to make her fresh mint tea, that’s the kind of service our VIPs expect but she couldn’t bring herself to thank me for it, that’s low class IMHO and as with most entitled guests she was a terrible tipper. Her husband on the other hand couldn’t have been nicer, no airs and graces, loved chatting to staff and guests and was genuinely engaging to meet.

Jimmy Fallon. Loved him on Late Night, which would air after The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He had a lot of funny stuff back then. He made fun of everyone, had a lot of good skits, etc. When he took over The Tonight Show though, it didn’t take long for his own personality and jokes to get clouded by how the media felt he needed to act or behave, which he gave in to. After him messing up Trump’s hair and people making a huge deal about that, that’s when I think he changed to be the media’s pawn. He only makes more socially acceptable jokes now and is way less genuine. You can just tell by watching him it’s not who he is - that he’s trying to cater to who he thinks he needs to be. The fake laugh is the cherry on top. It’s a shame too because he could’ve been up there with the greats.

I’m not big on ‘real celebs’ but I’ve seen some people say internet celebrities so for me it was Ryan Haywood from Achievement Hunter. I thought he was a really funny guy and was just the do it all dad guy who had a morbid sense of humor and drank Diet Coke. Finding out he was taking advantage of his fans, some underage, and using money donated to him on stream meant for his kids college fund to meet up with some of those girls and cheat on his wife was just terrible. I feel so bad for his victims and the people who thought they knew him.

Adam Carolla. I used to listen to him on the radio a lot. Like, 4 hours a day or more. The things he said made a lot of sense to me back then. He's a "COVID19 is a scam" kind of guy these days, and even though I enjoyed his comedic stylings for many years (until about the *30th time* I'd heard the same stories being repeated) I'm just really disappointed in what he's become.

Pewdiepie. He used to be entertaining and making unique content. I began noticing changes in his style around 2019,i'd say. Now, every video of his is the same: 0 effort, 0 creativity, aggressively promoting merch for 2 minutes straight in a 14 minutes video, mocking people for their looks or financial status, relying on other channels videos to create content for his own, and having CinnamonToastKen as a constant guest because he knows people really like him. I am so late to this post that no one will probably see this but Gwen Stefani. I used to pretty much be a stan, we called ourselves “lambies.” Gwen always used to be extremely involved with all her projects, even to the point of hand sewing sequins on to garments in her fashion show. She always really stuck to not wanting to be the “shampoo girl” and wouldn’t do endorsements or just put her name on anything unless it was really something she worked on directly. Right around the time she started to rep L’Oréal is when she became a complete sellout for me. Did she really think anyone would believe she’s using that box dye on her perpetually bleached head? Her hair would be falling out. There may have been some things before that but after that it seems she would put her name on anything for a check, and signed on to do things like The Voice, and became a daily tabloid celebrity with her relationship with Blake Shelton. She also basically just left the rest of No Doubt in the dust after the Push and Shove album. Save for a couple of musicians she kept along for her solo and Vegas stuff. I don’t even remember seeing anything from her supporting the Dreamcar project the band did after she pretty much moved on. She really just seemed to give up on everything that made me respect her so much before, even though she was a big name and millionaire artist she really stayed true to her original values until the L’Oréal thing. The only song she’s released on her newer stuff that’s been any good has been “Used to Love You,” and that’s probably because it was written by Justin Tranter. In her past career she wrote nearly everything she sang. It’s kind of a bummer because I had made a lot of friends through that fandom and we shared a lot of awesome experiences, but she just isn’t the same anymore and I’ve lost a lot of respect.

I could understand if someone helped one part of the individuals autism no longer be an issue, (and it's very different for everyone) but "cured?" First you would need to know what is from autism and what is from other factors, answer whether autism is a disability or simply a difference, and essentially perform neurosurgery... Even if one saw aspects of autism as flaws and not differences, to be flawed is to be human.

Chris Pratt. He was really funny in Parks and Rec and I was even supportive when he got his big break with GotG. But after learning more, he seems to be a quite conservative guy who pretends to be liberal so that he can keep being Starlord. Kinda not much of a celebrity but this guy Ryan Haywood from the youtube channel achievement hunter was like my favorite member growing up. He was funny put on a villain persona a lot and seemed like a good father. Turns out he was a pedophile who used his fame to convince young fans to sleep with him. Bastard even used his money from his twitch channel to pay for flights for them and hotel rooms when he told everyone all the money from his twitch was going to his kids' college funds.

Jennifer Lawrence. I was absolutely stoked to have a wholesome and positive body image female in Hollywood who was quirky and endearing and who seemed to genuinely not be absolutely full of herself. I thought "what an amazing role model for young women in today's absurdly toxic body shame environment!" I have some family that works in the biz, and on the set of Passengers, Jlaw was apparently just a snobby, pretentious whiner. Constantly worried about how she would look. Sad. Meanwhile I was cautiously dubious about Chris Pratt for being an outspoken Republican, and have continued to hear absolutely nothing but amazing things about him and how much of a good human being he is. Goes to show you that actions are really what we should judge people on. Not words.

Chris Pratt? A good human?! His own child basically doesn’t exist in his eyes because of their handicap. Yeah, great human. Not to mention his vet strong, very public anti-LGBTQ+ beliefs, and his membership in a very cult-ish church. Like, more cult-ish than others.

I had to go look this up- so the song, Scar Tissue, was about addiction (heroin, shooting up over and over again, trying to get clean, etc), but he apparently wrote a book and called it Scar Tissue as well. In THAT book, he says he slept with a girl who told him after the fact that she was only 14 (he was 23). He flipped out and never had anything to do with her, bc, statutory rape and all. I think he expected to be charged with it, even though he says he didn't know. Idk, if that is the truth, then that was really shitty on the girl for telling him she was 18, and if it's not the truth, then he's a terrible person and needs jail time

My two cents: Met him after a Cincinnati show in 2012…He couldnt have been nicer. I’ve read Scar Tissue twice but it has been awhile. I do not recall him sleeping with the underage lady after knowing her age, but I am getting older and the ol’ thinker is fuzzier.

Worst ever concert, Kiedis spent the entire show facing the drummer and barely acknowledging his fans .... the ones who bought his music. And I get sick of indulgent 'stars' who come off heroin and think that it defines them and be all dark and gloomy. Move on and talk about something else besides your old drug habit. Yawn

Neil deGrasse Tyson. At first I thought of him as very entertaining, but now I just think he seems so arrogant, like he's the most intelligent, wittiest person in the world and also constantly interrupts others(Joe Rogan) to prove how smart he is over and over again. And honestly, I'd really like to talk him. But the only stuff I'd ask him is pure physics like "what is the Hamilton-Jacobi equation" or "derive Kepler's laws in detail." I might be sounding salty at this point but I really genuinely wonder how much he actually knows about physics since there's not a single video of him talking about advanced physics or doing math and he doesn't even know what the Twin Paradox is.

I've always been annoyed at the celeb who loused up my brother's research for a TV show! It was a damned shame! My bro, Dr Laurance Doyle, is 'personality plus' and has the unique ability to put astronomical concepts in plain talk so we can get them. The popular actor understood nothing and got none of it right. Laur would have been happy to help him with it but he never thought to ask.

Just remember, celebrities are human too. How they are in front of cameras are most likely not how they really are. We, the plebs aren't perfect, and these people aren't either. The sooner people realize this, the less influence these celebrities have over society.

I'm all for passing judgement when celebrities "dig their own graves", or when the evidence, and restimony, is so overwhelming that an actual trial means little (especially in sex abuse cases) However, basing one's opinion of someone based purely on rumor, conjecture, snd Internet rumor is ridiculous and childish. Some people need to grow up and learn how to tell the difference between a truth and a lie.

Or even to accept that we cannot always tell which is which, it isn't always obvious. We aren't in these people's lives and don't truly know them. Some are who they seem to be, other's may put on a great act. We won't necessarily know which is which. Enjoy their work but separate it from who they are. Unless their views are immoral or repugnant in some way.

Never understood why so many people idolize a person so much! I also think that most celebrities are selfish which probably helps them to move to the top. Some can be a bit narcissist. Celebrities are just the popular people. Like in school, only in the real world. They are not experts in anything, well, most of them aren't. They barely have an opinion, they follow the majority, whoever they are told to follow blindly. I feel bad for the people who believe and follow celebrities as if they can do no wrong and perfect.
