Immigrants are an easy target when talking about the issues within a community. Not enough jobs? Blame immigrants. Not enough school places? Blame immigrants. Crime too high? Guess who you can blame! When a community becomes disadvantaged, through whatever reason, tensions increase. Rather than tackle the root cause of the disadvantage (jobs, education, etc) it is easier to stoke those tensions for political gain.

It is a shame of course since immigrants create more jobs, reduce per-capita crime rates, and generally bring more money into a community. Even illegal immigrants are providing tax revenue, while not being able to collect on federal or state services. These are of course generalities. It's very easy to pick out exceptions to the rule in news stories.

This is true - but then the rightwing stats also need to be adapted. "80% of immigrants commit crimes" sounds horrible, until it turns out that 99% of these "crimes" are related to the immigration process and cannot be committed by US citizens, and that they are usual something like "handed it a form 1 day too late". -> This is what happened when similar stats in Germany were looked at.

Sexual abüse is the oldest form of tërrorism globally, and there has been an inordinate amount of white tërrorism in the US since it's inception. White men have nearly wiped out the Indigenous Peoples, have wreaked horrendous crimes against Black people, and have continued to threaten, intimidate, and kiill immigrants. That doesn't include entire species of animals they gleefully brought to extinction. Based on past and present behavior, I think we can draw a conclusion what the problem is. And as long as they run the country, the courtrooms, corporations, and industries, I don't see their ruthlessness ending any time soon.

And it's all rooted in misogyny. From the monsters of ancient times, who were almost always coded female and represented the fears men held about women - their power, knowledge, hunger, desires, appearance, ambition.... you know, basically everything - to the modern fear of trans people, it's all thanks to misogyny. Fear of the "other" is the foundation of Western culture and this classification of trans individuals as "other" is compunded by the fear of the female. In MTF trans people, it's the fear that these men "abandoned" their masculinity to embrace feminity and, thus, "diminished" themselves. In FTM trans people, it's the fear that these women dared to throw aside their "duties" as walking wombs in order to usurp the power of men and dare to stand next to "true" men as equals. TL;Dr - men are fragile things terrified of women in all forms. (And, yes, I'm most certainly generalizing.)

Exactly. This is on a slightly different topic, but a few years ago some companies declared a bathroom policy stating that people could use the restroom that they identified with. People said that now men would come into the ladies's restroom and sexually a*****t them. I never heard of a single case where that happened.

Society should be trying to do the least amount of work in the most efficient way to maximize free time. Capitalism doesn't want that. In the US we add inefficiencies to extract more money from our citizens. Taxes are a big one. The IRS could do most of it. No need for the middle men tax companies to extract money.

So true. Sometimes I wonder what people thing an economy is for. It's not just to generate wealth. It's to generate safe and abundant living conditions for as many people as possible. Until we can live inside a bank account and eat the money we find there, capitalism for it's own sake won't make any d**n sense at all.

The sad part is that I hear this mostly from fellow poors. Usually older folks who are bitter that they sacrificed the best years of their lives grinding away for someone else's wealth. The only solace they can find in the injustice is by praising their own "work ethic," so they denigrate anyone who doesn't buy into the same self-sacrificial b******t.

Every now and then I read how laborers in some country united to protest against unfair practices. But not the US. As long as there's some brain-draining reality show on tv, Americans will complain, but don't expect them to fight for their liberty. Those days are long gone.

This isn't a problem of capitalism. No book on capitalism says that people should be exploited. It's a problem of stupid people. By the way, it's more common to see people working for $10-20 a month under socialism.

I see this so often and yet where I live $25/hr still won't get any applicants. Ever since the plandemic, it's impossible to get anyone to work. It is NOT a pay issue, it's an issue of the government making leeches out of people who are more physically fit than most workers but are simply too lazy and too well paid to live off the taxpayers.

Capitalism, at its core, is an economic system where private individuals or businesses own most of the goods and services. People invest in companies, hire workers, and ideally, make a tidy profit. The workers, on the other hand, show up, put in hours, and get wages. But they don’t own what they work on; they just keep it running. It’s kind of like borrowing a kitchen to cook dinner, but not getting to keep the meal. That’s the basic structure of capitalism: owners call the shots, and workers keep it going.

What drives capitalism? One word: demand. The more people want something, the more companies rush to make it and cash in. It’s all about supply meeting that demand in a wild market dance. Unlike planned economies, where the government decides who gets what, here it’s more like survival of the most clever. And if someone finds a way to sell water in a rainstorm? Capitalism says, “Go for it!” It’s messy, unpredictable, and very human.

I just recently watched the series The Pitt. Highly recommend for non-medical people to watch. My nurse wife says it is the most realistic medical drama series out there. You won't catch me complaining about wait times anymore. Sheds a new light on the reality of medical professionals and does not have the soap opera effect of some other series. Night Watch is a good reality series for first responders, too.

Now, let’s be fair, capitalism has some solid perks. It gets things moving fast, encourages fresh ideas, and often lowers prices because of competition. If you’ve ever scored a cheap phone on sale, you can thank capitalism. It also has a knack for pushing people to invent and innovate. Wages and living standards tend to rise overall, at least in theory. When it works, it really works (until it doesn’t).

But oh, the cons. It tends to divide the world into “haves” and “have-nots” faster than you can say inequality. Big profits sometimes mean big pollution and corner-cutting. Workers might feel like cogs in a giant profit-making machine. Then there’s crony capitalism, where shady backroom deals start replacing fair competition.

This is the exact mindset of people who are anti-union. Instead of wanting everyone to make a good wage and benefits, they'd rather tear everyone down to live in misery.

This would involve tax rises and any party promising tax rises will never be seen again. People continue to believe that they can 'vote themselves rich', and until we become wiser, 'bread and circuses' will be continually demanded - and provided. Attempts to short-circuit this failure loop usually end with a "People's Democratic Republic " of, wherever, a President for Life, and a one-party State. Oh, and corruption that would make Tammany Hall's eyes water. That's the "Too Far" bit...

I saw some dreadful things when working for a hospice. A woman in her forties with four kids who got stage IV ovarian cancer and died. She never got it checked out because she was undocumented and too scared to go to the hospital. A man who was incarcerated and getting Pepto Bismol from the prison staff for his stage IV gastric cancer. He survived three weeks after getting out of prison. People who had obviously had good jobs and professions living in trailers because they had chronic diseases and the system didn't help them out. We should take care of people regardless of status.

A recent op/ed: Popular wisdom (at least those in the Conservative sector) is that Medicaid is a “poor people who don’t want to work” benefit. While somewhat true, let’s look at those “poor people.” While true that those who choose not to contribute to society are covered, that amount is quite small, and has been since the late 90s-early 2000s. The next category are those who either do not qualify through their employer, or whose premium costs are such that it makes little financial sense to enroll when eligible for Medicaid (those working near full/full time). If you work near full/full time, there is no reason you should not be covered by Medicaid and SNAP. You are paying into the same system you are drawing from. My wife and I had a conversation with a woman working a store checkout who wondered if the 40 pounds of chicken we bought (@ 50 cents pound) would be an acceptable expense for SNAP. We assured her it would, and that taxpayers would be thrilled with such an economic decision. The last category is those on SOc Sec/Soc Sec disability. They qualify for MediCARE, but their income also qualifies them for MediCAID. LEt your Reps and Sens know not to balance cost savings on the backs of already vulnerable people.

There are all kinds of capitalism floating around. Take oligarchic capitalism, where a few super-rich folks run both the economy and the government. It’s like Monopoly, but the board is rigged from the start.

The term comes from Greek: “oligarchy” means rule by the few, and it’s the opposite of democracy. Think private jets, political influence, and champagne brunches you’ll never be invited to. It’s capitalism with a very exclusive guest list.

I work for a public utility waste water, and we do an amazing job much much better than the private waste water plants in MN, we aren't worried about profits our goal is to protect the Mississippi river and keep our residents waste water flowing well. We are doing a big project to use our renewable resources from the waste water treatment process to produce green hydrogen. We need to increase the size of our solar array and possibly purchase a 3rd biogas generator. But Xcel energy are a bunch of d ick bags and won't give us an increase in our interconnection agreement because they are threatened by our public plants ability to control the means of our production when it comes to energy. If it was a public utility we would be working as partners to make this happen, instead we have a straight up enemy in Xcel energy.

I also live in a small public-power community. Most all the towns in the state are powered by the energy behemoth National Grid. Not only are our electric rates dramatically lower, our service is far more reliable. National Grid doesn't believe in tree maintenance as it takes away from shareholder profits. Outages don't affect their bottom line much, so they just don't care.

Why? Without improving the product or bringing anything extra they can decide it costs more. Without changing the condition of the building or the land they can charge more for rent. So why is it that they can decide to change all the costs without bringing any extra or improvement to justify it but people need to justify themselves as a rising cost???

Then there's state-guided capitalism, where the government steps in and directs which industries to grow. It’s like having a manager who micromanages your every move but still expects you to turn a profit. It’s capitalism with a playbook, and the referee is also your boss. It works for some, confuses many, and keeps economists busy arguing.

Why do they care so much how other people live their lives? The war on the LGBTQ communtiy makes ni sense to me. Never did. Not even 30 years ago when I was still Catholic. Their existence then didn't affect me then, but their existence effects me now because I have many friends in that community and they are important to me. Right?! My first transgender friend came out when we were in grade 6, in like 2003. While he faced some fairly rough bullying from our peers, it was nowhere near the absolute panic people have over trans folks today. Lucky he’s been transitioned for over 20 years and is extremely passing - he can keep himself pretty safe as long as he’s careful, no one at his work even knows he’s trans - but I’m always worried someone is going to find out and hurt him. He’s a very good person, so funny, works with animals. Amazing artist. Has a loving wife who is his high school sweetheart. But all some people see is “waaah a trans person, let’s freak out about it!”

One more time for the people in the back: tariffs are taxes payed by the importing party. So it usually means less trade coming in, and consumers paying more. Never in history have they lead to an economic boom, quite the contrary

TBH, most people aren’t bothered by trans individuals. They’re not bothered by anyone, regardless of orientation, color, religion, or whatever. As long as people go on living their lives and don’t impede on anyone else’s life, the majority of us don’t care what they do in the privacy of their own home—-as long as everyone is a consenting adult, of course. So this whole trans non-issue, as well as the immigration non-issue, and all the other non-issues that republicans, exclusively, get all red in the face about are merely distractions to divide the rest of us so we get all caught up fighting each other and are looking away while they rig rhetoric government to do the bidding of their corporate masters and the dictators of other countries who want to annex the US. So pay no attention to such obfuscation, it’s merely a cover for more dastardly deeds being done by the very people we elect and trust to represent OUR best interests, and not those of huge corporations and billionaires.

Sigh...and you people continue not to get it. In the before times, when gender dysphoria was treated as a psychiatric condition and not a political ideology....professional psychiatric care was a requirement. You needed to spend months or years in therapy before being granted hormones, you needed to spend YEARS living, presenting and identifying as your assumed s*x before being permitted to obtain surgical intervention. And no one had anything to say about it, did they? It's only when those checks and balances got removed, that people took issue. No longer did you need to be seeking any kind of treatment, only to make sounds with the largest hole in your head to be granted rights and access that others actually fought to achieve. When the mob began insisting that children know what's best for them, when teachers know better than parents and when legal steps were taken to FORCE parents into providing THEIR CHILD with interventions they did not support.

When s*x became meaningless in the face of "gender" When fully biological men, began being granted access to protected female spaces....domestic violence shelters, athletics, prisons, programs fought and designed to benefit women. When trans became an umbrella term that encompasses.....pretty much anything that falls outside of the traditional norm. When terms like gay and lesbian began to fall out of favor, replaced instead by "genital preference" And throughout it all the expectation continues to be that the only people worthy of consideration are those actively trying to make everyone else feel less than because they've dared to prioritize themselves, they've dared to acknowledge that the demands being proffered are UNFAIR, and HARMFUL to a group of people that is still treated as "marginalized" themselves. But no, every complaint, every criticism, is all elevated to phobia, hate and treated as equating to violence. The inability to acknowledge any of that, is why trump is in the WH

Is it possible that lack of access to healthcare could lead to an increases crisis of obesity? Certain treatments for obesity perhaps are not available to the average american, and therefore they end up in worse health. And because so much of our income is diverted to paying for healthcare, we have less left-over to make healthy choices in our diets, and because we are so overworked and over-stressed, we have more cortisol in our blood, which also leads to increased obesity. Or maybe, as you put it, I am confusing correlation with causation.

The US has become a global joke. We've allowed our educational system to decline to an extent that we're graduating idiots, our healthcare system is profit-driven, and the only area we're #1 in is incarceration rates (essentially slave labor). And everywhere you look, some dümbass has a flag flapping in the breeze. Taking pride in your country's deterioration is not being patriotic.

This is factually ... exaggerated. Only one country in the world offers FREE healthcare to ALL of its citizens, Brazil. But even in Brazil, about 25% of us have additional private health insurance to cover additional perks or to use private hospitals. 43 countries offer FREE healthcare to MOST of its citizens. And that list does include every nation in the G20, except the United States and China. Norway was the first country in the world to create a free healthcare policy BTW, back in 1912.

Every nation sees itself as , not only unique, but 'special'. Every nation is wrong. Every nation can learn from others, once it realises this is both possible and necessary. Ask what lessons we have for others, then what we can learn from them. That way we can all become better. And remember we are dealing with our equals - everywhere.

That's because the USA is, in many respects, a perverse form of capitalism. Profit above all else. That's the only rationale I can think of to justify putting high fructose corn syrup and seed oils in processed foods, knowing it's deleterious to the body, but more profitable. Or not allowing tort reform to cap how much an individual can sue for medical malpractice. This is what drives up insurance premiums for doctors/hospitals that then drives up insurance premiums for individuals and ultimately making may forgo insurance altogether. Why? Because the lawyers want more profit on these lawsuits. It's sickening when you think about this, the food industry producing products that are long term harmful that then requires the person to seek medical help that then gets prescribed a d**g. Food/Medical/Pharma, the triumvirate, actually desires an unhealthy America in order to thrive.

As a teacher, I support this message. New idea...eliminate lobbying and dark money for politicians. Only allow professional politicians teachers' wages. You'll end up with less greedy, power hungry politicians and gain politicians who only do the job because they want to help society and make a difference. Term limits could also help, and eliminate the electoral college. Introduce a third party to eliminate this polarization. They want us divided as a People so they can continue their agenda and put their Party over the People. We need to be the UNITED States, not the DIVIDED States. And maybe, we could treat each other with respect and not force our personal views on each other. Allow everyone to live a happy life. Those that are racist or discriminating could promptly pull their heads out of their a55es. That might be how we could Make America GREAT for ONCE.

There was a glorious 80 some odd years with 5 great emperors that ended with the death of Marcus Aurelius and the ascension of Commodus. They knew they were in decline. They talked about it frequently. Pretty much like we do. Most people were mostly powerless like we are as powerful men with strong armies warred for control of the empire. Every once in a while they'd get a Constantine or a Diocletian and things would get better and then they'd be back to Civil War and collapse.

They conquered the world and imported slaves by the millions. Small farmers sold their land to buy the gear to join the army and become wealthy (most did not). The families that bought the land were wealthy from plundering conquered lands and brought in slaves to farm. Slaves also worked in manufacturing, shipping, education, domestic services, and s*x trafficking. Every conquest made Rome more wealthy and the wealth was highly concentrated. This economic situation lasted for over 600 years.

Little discussed is the impact climate change had on destroying the Roman Empire. The final nail in the coffin. Colder temperatures and volcanic activity decimated crops leading to famine, which weakened the people and made them more susceptible to diseases that spread. Trade, transportation, and water supplies were disrupted. Guess where we're headed, esp. now that Trump 2.0 is rolling back all the environmental protection laws.

Entrepreneurial capitalism is the fun, scrappy cousin of the bunch. It celebrates dreamers, doers, and garage inventors who build empires from nothing. Think tech startups, lemonade stands, and Shark Tank pitches. It’s risky, chaotic, and a bit romanticized. But it keeps hope alive that anyone, anywhere, can hit it big. If you’ve got hustle, this is your playground.

Wow, I rented a 2 bdr apartment in 1999 for $1200/mo in high-rise in Washington DC. I just looked it up. Today that same apartment is $3900/mo. In 2001 I was living in Cairo, in a 1 bdr and I paid $200/mo if I remember correctly. Tricky since I wasn't paying in USD, I don't really remember that well what the conversion rates were.

My first apartment in 1979 cost $195/month. Adjusting for inflation, that’s $858.96 in 2025 dollars. I just looked up apartments in the same city same neighborhood today. They’re charging a minimum of $1400/month. Nearly twice the adjusted amount, meaning that rents have risen at TWICE the inflation rate. I also looked up my hourly wage in 1979, which was a little above minimum wage (I was 19 and had NO bills), to find out what it’s worth today, adjusting for inflation. Guess what? It’s still only a little above minimum wage. Working full time at a job equivalent to the one I had in 1979—-and only looking at my net, and not gross, pay—-in 2025 it would take about 77% of my salary just to make rent living alone in my 1979 one bedroom, one bath apartment, whereas in 1979 it only took about 33%. Less than half as much as now. And the old farts wonder why the younger generation isn’t buying houses. Hell, how TF can they save up the down payment when their rent is eating up almost all their money? They’re basically paying the landlord’s mortgage, and the a*****e still raises the rent amount sky high every year.

A local development (Cadillac, Mich) just released the base lease for "middle class" apartments they are building..(975/mo for a studio). Yeah, that pretty much excludes anyone with an hourly wage.

Y'all realize we're making less money in 2025 than what workers were earning in the 1970's because wages haven't increased compatibly with the cost of living. It's not that rentals are too expensive, our salaries are too meager.

In the name of freedom USA fcked up the whole Middle East. And because of them we have problems in Europe. And I'm really getting angry, when they are trying to praise it, through giving vet-discounts at the stores, saying 'Thank-you-for-your-service', when all they are doing ruining young people's lives, who have PTSD before they have an own home and reaching their 30 years old. And in fact., they are not giving a shít about them. Hypocrisity at it's finest at a national level. The main villian in this story you sure find at governmental level. And to be fair, in this matter no other administration was better, than the other one.

Then there’s laissez-faire capitalism. It’s all about minimal interference, maximum freedom. Great if you’re a business owner, maybe less fun if you're a worker hoping for some rights. This is capitalism in its wildest, most unfiltered form. Imagine a free-for-all marketplace where anything goes, as long as someone’s willing to pay.

Jews, Homos, Socialists, Communists, Gipsys, Pacifists, to name just the most prominent the last - sadly so - successful attempt to sort and value people by those unfit criteria. The anger about Versailles was justified, the exploitation thereof ... didn't just go a bit too far. We gotta be clear about that, every ideology that supports or even only accepts hate towards those or other groups is what's at fault, and what's already known to be so. We shouldn't need any further iterations, but have learned the lessons various dictators have made us swallow. But, it's still there. The readiness to hate, the speed of change, often surprises people, but, given the history of extremism and hate, it shouldn't. MAGA, NSDAP, all them brothers-in-mind should at least share one thing: Opposition that uses any and every means available BUT violence - in order to never need to resort to violence. Maybe, it's already too late. We'll see how the deconstruction of the oldest somewhat alive democracy (... don't want to call it "intact"...) goes, and how much of a chance to rebuild is left when the Magats and their supreme leader are elected off. If they are elected off, even.

And finally, we have welfare capitalism, where businesses or governments actually care (a little). Think health insurance, social safety nets, and workplace benefits sprinkled on top of capitalism’s usual chaos. It tries to keep things humane while still playing the market game. It’s not perfect, but it’s like capitalism with a heart emoji. The goal? Make money, but don’t crush everyone in the process.

Oh no, not “perhaps”. More like DEFINITELY. They cannot handle a woman being smarter and more successful than they are, even with the extra boost they’ve always gotten from being part of the boys’ club. Plus, they completely forget that she probably had to work ten times harder to get a tenth as far as a man with worse grades and fewer qualifications, so if she’s been successful, she’s had to truly struggle for it a lot more than a man would have to. But they don’t see that, they just see someone who has the means to just pack up and leave them anytime she wants, and that infuriates them. Too f*****g bad. Too f*****g sad. Sucks to be them.

It's even simpler than that. A woman who has a good amount of life experience isn't going to tolerate their manchild behavior. Not only CAN she leave, it's unlikely she'd get sucked into their toddler tantrums in the first place.

And since people willfully don’t pay attention in their history classes, we end up making the same mistakes over and over, and end up in the same world of s**t every d**n time. We have to make learning history more important than it presently is. Of course, that means we have to save, then fully renovate, the Education Department first. Basically, treat it like we’re the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Ed Dept is a key historic property scheduled for the present administration’s wrecking ball.

Checks out for us here in Germany as far as I can tell - Politicians that don't care, a pissed public and problems that make extreme solutions look more and more necessary due to neglect by those in charge. We had that back then too and I really hope we don't repeat history in that regard, doesn't look good though....

And, please - every worker who is not in a union: Feel ashamed. "BuT tHe UnIoNs ArOuNd HeRe ArE cOrRuPt111" - guess why, because they lack reasonable members who vote against those exploiting the unions' weakness for personal profit. Join, elect them out, and fight the injustice. United. United we stand, divided we fall? Sure so. But, that shouldn't make us prepare to fall less hurtful, but make us prepare to fight. First step: Unite. Workes among the world, raise your voice, raise your hand if need be, we're the strongest party to ever have been around. The rich organize themselves, don't worry about them, worry about you, your neighbour, your kids. Ever worked two shifts to make ends meet, to provide for your loved ones? Want them to do the same, to have the same struggles, to be exploited again, like your Dad, like you? No? Join your damned union!

I am a Christian conservative that has no savings, but I do carry cash for the sole purpose of giving to those in need without expecting anything in return and I hate that my city's 'solution' to the homeless problem is to outlaw encampments. Being poor and/or homeless is much more complicated than, and has little to do with, others being rich - Bill Gates gives billions to charity! To say that simply taking away the wealth of the rich will make everyone's life better disregards the complexity of individual circumstances such as mental illness and there being jobs available.

The problem is the lack of due process in those proceedings. Somewhere in chapter one of "How to be a Dictator" you find this lesson for dealing with your opponents: Step#1, Find a group of people who are broadly disliked [gang members in this case] and strip them of their right to due process. Imprison them. Few people will complain because nobody likes gang members. Step#2, label anyone who is your political enemy as a gang member, they are then deprived of the due process necessary to prove they are NOT gang members. Your enemies unjustly rot in prison. This is why due process of law is vital to a functional democracy.

There is no cure for certain diseases because the cure - if it exists at all - hasn't been found yet. Scientists and medics are constantly improving their practice, because they choose to do so. Medicine is a vocation at its core, but certain individuals - and companies - have attached themselves to it and are bleeding off as much as they can get away with. Don't judge a horse by its fleas.

High speed rail in America is never going to happen. Canada has been talking about it for the past 50+ years and still has done nothing about it. Yet, it could be so easy. Just put a maglev track between the existing rails and just send the fast trains between the slow ones.

I don't think the issue is that it isn't profitable - I think its that the government really has no clue how to do/build anything without screwing it up. No, I am not advocating for the privatization of it or whatever - I am simply saying that the US government does an absolute sh*t job of everything they touch, yet citizens seem to think they can fix it all.

If the word is Naci: Well, if the majority of people would have said "No thanks, we don't want this", Hitler would never have been successful. But he made promises lots of people liked, so they voted for him because other options weren't attractive enough or to make a point - despite of his plans were easy to understand. Once in power, het positioned people around him who had the job to keep him in power. OP needs to read a book of German history, 1918 to 1933.

Look guys, in Australia, where I come from, I vote LNP, which is a right-side party because I believe capitalism is a good thing to a certain extent. It encourages people to work for rewards instead of it just being handed to them outright however I completely understand why people don't vote right-side in America and that scares me because I know nothing about US politics.

I don't think it's about being rich after certain point. Yes, there is a point well below wealth of 1 billion where generations will be set for life and even better - return on investment of all that wealth will only grow. It's simply impossible to spend into into economy. Therefor the result or end game is imho in power. And that lust for power has no limit... It would be far worse if the real SSA was as bad at math as the twitter user. The actual *error* rate is about 0.625% which, if you turn it into a regular number instead of a percentage, is 0.00625. The overpayment of $72 billion listed elsewhere is for a period of 7 years. That's about $10 billion per year, but about 2/3 gets recovered, so the real loss is roughly $3.5 billion per year or about $10.60 per US resident. The 2025 military budget is $2700 for every resident, and the various losses there are a bit more than 0.625%. Of course it would be nice to reduce the errors in all programs, but only moron would try to do it with a chainsaw.

No. The American Social Security program is a Ponzi scheme where most people paying into it will not receive as much as they gave to it. The only part of it that "works" is that they force people that might not have put many aside to put money aside.

Exactly. The US currently has no physical factories, engineers, designers, testers, line workers, support staff, logistics, resources, vendors, trade partners...and once we get all those things, we will produce things that Americans can't afford and other countries won't buy. But, hey, progress - right?

After thirty years of companies sending manufacturing offshore to lower costs (because their supposed “profits” aren’t the result of selling more and better product, they’re merely the result of cost-cutting), throwing countless numbers of workers out of jobs and completely killing and gutting company towns all over the country? They think they’re going to easily bring it all back in one fell swoop? If they are, then they’re going to have to go through a complete 180 degree change in ethics, attitudes, and business practices to do it. American workers will not put up with the low paid sweatshop slave conditions that workers in the third world countries those companies set up factories in put up with. So they’ll have to get used to lower profit margins, because they won’t be able to cheat their American workers like they cheated their third world workers.

My style of living improved 10-fold because my cost of living was cut so significantly that I enjoy luxuries here that I couldn't afford in 'Merika and I can save towards my retirement plus send money monthly to my elderly parents in California & Texas (who can't afford a comfortable retirement due to expensive daily necessities). Granted, I earn more than local citizens but even my Chinese friends and co-workers make enough to live well and their parents (some of whom are only in their late 50s or 60s) get guaranteed monthly incomes. Real social security.

It's not really about bringing manufacturing back to the US... it's about lining the administration's pockets with money and convincing Americans of lesser intellectual capability to believe that other "bad" countries are paying it instead of them.

Trump is trying to change things for the better. You all need to open your minds and see it. If that unqualified women had won we would continue to go broke while trying to defend and save the world. We cannot afford that any longer. Look how much money and blood was wasted in the Ukraine that is directly attributable to Joe Biden.

Well, you pay either with money or time. In our European village a lot of stuff is free, but only because people don't expect payment and invest their leisure time to create parks, playgrounds, festivals for others to enjoy for free. But of course they have day jobs (or a pension), that pays their clothing, housing, gasoline, etc

I believe that Europeans went through a longer history of wealthy vs poor and finally worked out a better way to set things up so that no one gets left out entirely. Europe feels far more "centered" in its vibe of life, although modern challenges still exist. America is still a teenager that worships the famous and wealthy while looking for someone else to blame for what it is lacking.

What politicians want everything taxed--land, water, air and the space you occupy Who's lobbying for child labor, abolishing overtime and OSHA safety requirements? Allowing interest rates to rise? It's not all that great now, and just you wait till the billionaires and their toadies get their way.

You've... you've never been poor, have you? Overdraft is a fact of life when you're living paycheck to paycheck and bills need to be paid, groceries need to be bought, etc. If you're lucky, you have a bank that doesn't do overdraft fees and, possibly, even gives you a cushion of $200 or so, based on your deposit history. If you're not lucky, then overdraft fees are to be expected.

When I was a landlord, I asked outgoing tenants if I could give their contact information to prospective tenants because it never felt right that I would demand references but they couldn’t. I still shake my head at how surprised prospective tenants were when I gave them previous tenants’ contact info and said, “please, feel free to ask these people what I’m like as a landlord. You deserve to know how I will treat you just as I deserve to know how you will treat my property.”

We have an empathy problem. Every time a republican changed their stance on LGBTQ rights it was always because someone close to them came out. I cringe every time a man says "now that I have a daughter", like were women inhuman before that? It is just nuts that we still treat certain humans as less than human for no good reason at all.

What’s really ironic about this is that the greatest artists weren’t rich at all. Some had patrons helping g them with rent and food, but the rest were poor and suffered. They also had a fire in their belly that led them to work harder and achieve their genius. Granted, some of them weren’t very good, but those who were good were amazing. That’s a drive that doesn’t exist when your belly is full and you’re shielded from suffering. No, not experiencing that kind of suffering means that their “art” will be mediocre at best, s**t at worst (and way more of it will be s**t than mediocre), and will only be bought by their rich friends and family, who have money to waste, more from just a show of support than from true appreciation of their artistic genius, which they don’t have.

Yeah, that's usually how dictatorships starts - Happened in Germany (Nazis), the USSR (Communists) Iran (Theocracy) and France (Whatever Robespierre's regime is called). Democracies usually die if opposing sides get more and more extremist by the day, declaring the other sides as total enemies and refuse to compromise because they own the only correct truth... Shocking that this sounds quite familiar nowadays, eh?

It all falls under bigotry. The implications come from who has the power in society. The feminist part is that we live in an misogynistic society, the racist part is that we live in a society that has a history of laws holding back people because of skin color and the effects are still felt to this day and unofficially enforced on many occasions.

Not to mention that, as long as they don’t cross paths or get in each other’s way, there’s a chance that no one dies. The bear is not 100% guaranteed to immediately k**l the woman, unless she provokes it, and she most likely won’t. It’s a survival instinct we have honed after millennia of living around men. Women are far more capable of peacefully coexisting with not just their own species, but other species as well, than men are. Men would immediately jump to trying to attack and k**l the bear, while women would look for ways to live peacefully alongside the bear. So yeah, we’d choose the bear, because there’s a better chance of survival there.

Biden didn't do EVERYTHING perfect, so he must have been a complete failure, right? With that kind of thinking, it is no wonder we got Trump 2.0.

Clarification: she was arrested the next day when she was seen throwing the fetal remains in a bag into a dumpster, and was arrested for "abuse of a corpse". Autopsy determined fetus was not alive at time of birth, so charges were dropped. Still a crazy headline, but needed to clarify she wasn't arrested just for having a miscarriage. That's not a crime....yet.

That's crazy because where I live women who suffer a miscarriage can just call an ambulance and are being taken care of at a hospital for no cost to them at the point of care. Likewise the remains of the fetus are being removed (and for a big part disposed of in the same way as a removed organ. I wonder why she couldn't do just that? It's blatantly disrespectful to take such a tragic moment in history and place it on a pedestal like an untouchable abstraction that we marvel at from afar. I don't know who the one on the left is but i assume they're a trans college swimmer. The one on the right is Brock Turner, a râpist college swimmer who only got 6 months because the judge thought giving him a higher sentence would have "a severe impact on his future".

Yet you voted for the six-time bankrupt trust fund baby who never worked a day in his life rather than the candidate who was born to modest means and made herself rich based on her educational achievements and labor.

Out of all of these posts, this is the one I disagree with. The Police are necessary to maintain a lawful society. The problems arise when the people working for law enforcement are poorly trained with inadequate screening and controlled by a corrupt bureaucracy.

Do you know, where could you find a policeman at every corner? In the former "socialist" countries. Those policemen in the eighties were not violent. They didn't need to. They were just present.

I think cops are still an important part of society. But a lot of the wrong people are cops, being given orders by the wrong kind of authority.

The two men I know who became policemen were both bullies in high school. They simply enjoyed beating people up so they made it a career.

And maybe pay the existing school nurses, librarians, and EMTs almost as much as cops are paid, or something. Crazy, I know.

Honestly, I think cops are necessary for a society to function. The thing is that proper training, leadership and public respect determines the effectiveness and behaviour. Here in Germany for example we witnessed a change in how officers operate in the last 10 years due to changed circumstances and incidents

Police are necessary and needed. You don't have to choose between EMT's and police. You can have both! I prefer a lawful society. Horrible post

I know quite a few people who have become cops. The frase "add uniform for instant f*****t" come to mind..yea sure we need police but they need to be screened better. It the jobs that attracts that kind of person. The little coffee shop next to my job is near a police station. So I talk with them every day, and their definitely is a worrying profile.

CECOT - Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo. A maximum security prison, supposedly for terrorists. We have tolerated the "extraordinary rendition" of the war on terror and now people in America have to worry about being shipped off to a maximum security prison with no due process.

I lived in El Salvador when it was one of the murder capitals of the world. The comfort of criticism and comment from safety and distance is a privilege that the people of El Salvador desire as well.

Guillotines were a godsend for executioners. They take some of the blame away from the executioner, so they were not considered social pariahs and killers. They were also a sign of justice. Bring back the guillotine.

Public stoning of criminal oligarchs would give the public some emotional satisfaction, a sense of getting back at the people who took everything from them. You know how in Western movies the good guys finally k**l all the bad guys and the audience cheers!
